Betty Buckley was also the best actress on eight is enough. As genuine as can be. She kept that cast together. Pure humility and extraordinary talent!!!
bootsamou She also played Carrie’s mother, Margaret White, in the 1988 musical adaption of CARRIE. The show was produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company (their first musical since “Les Miserables” and their last until “Matilda”) It closed after 8 performances and was Broadway’s biggest flop.
Agreed. I get it’s a jazzier arrangement, but between 2:27 and 2:33 he plays 4 or 5 obviously wrong notes. You can even see in his face that he knows they’re mistakes. No tea, no shade, he’s a great pianist and Betty’s longtime accompanist. But this version was not great.
I'm a super huge fan of Betty Buckley but I did not like the arrangement at this music at all. There's something to be said for just leaving an original piece of music alone and not trying to play with it and make it somehow unusual or different. Andrew Lloyd Webber's music doesn't need to be enhanced or toyed with even for effect.
Fair interpretation by Buckley, although she’s fine better. The dreadful, tuneless accompaniment otherwise ruins the number. All in all, a mess. Bummer waste of air time.
Betty Buckley is incomparable!! Seeing her live in CATS, on Broadway, was one of the greatest performances ever,
I saw her too
@@atis9061 She is fantastic. When she stood up. while singing Memories, iy took my breath away

Betty Buckley, one of Broadway's Greatest Performers!!!!
With her singing voice, it is inevitable.
Iconic!!
I remember watching this show with my mom after school. I loved how she always had Broadway stuff on.
Rosie always knows so many details about her guests, especially regarding their careers. She’s awesome.
SAW BETTY IN SUNSET...ABOLUTELY STUNNING!!!!
I wish I had
Betty Lynn is superb.
this was good day time TV. and Betty was so delightful as always.
Ahhhhh so happy to find this! I love Betty Buckley and her take on Norma is the best.
I had the absolutely pleasure of seeing this Broadway show !! Ms Buckley was truly amazing !!
I think the pianist is in awe. I know I would be! You go girl!!!!!!
I love that she actually said “Meeeee” and not “Maaaaaaay” that’s not easy on those high notes.
She’s musical drama personified
Saw her twice as Norma in London.
I remember her as the gym teacher in the film "Carrie" in 1976.

@@isthisryan7899 Gosh - a musical Carrie - I'd forgotten about that !
Norma is right up there with Mama Rose as among the great diva roles. Just epic music for epic voices like Betty's
It would be lovely if the pianist was playing the same show.

Betty can break through
WOW - actually saw this production - seriously nothing like it .. she was effortless and stunning … brought so much joy to watch a masterpiece
This amazingly talented lady didn’t need the pianist!! Bravo Betty you are the best of Broadway!!!
Betty Lynn ❤❤ 😊
She’s awesome!
Betty was and always will be the BEST Norma Desmond !!!!
wow. That was incredible.
Bravo
LOVE her singing as always, very much did not like the piano accompaniment
Absolutely amazing!!! Saw her perform this in NYC, Also saw Les Miz, with Ricky Martin.
By far the best Norma Desmond. Betty Buckley is amazing
I just cannot agree. Patti Lupone brought the anger and frustration of Norma sidelined by Hollywood and desperate for a return a la Gloria Swanson.
Betty Buckley: Flawless
The pianist:
No.
THE BEST!!!
+WHATTHEBUCKSHOW Always love when i'm watching videos and see you've posted. xx
it was...great improv jazz guy.
That's was fantastic😉
wow this is rare
Does anyone hear an Irish accent in Betty Buckley's rendition? Great version!
2beatnik I was thinking the exact same!
I know she's adored by many, but I've always found her voice thin butthats only my opinion. I find Patti LuPone so much more thrilling.
I only see Carrie White's gym teacher singing from heaven. :(
I can’t wait to see Nicole scherzinger sing this one 😭😭😭
Was Betty in sunset in nyc at the same time she was on Rosie’s show?
No, Betty was in the Broadway production from Jul 04, 1995 to Aug 24, 1996. This appearance was in July 1997.
@@MrBungee do you know the exact dates she was in the west end? Did she return to the west end after her operation?
Ummm is the pianist sight reading or something??? Betty is flawless but this accompaniment is fucking everything up!
I think you mean playing by memory? Anytime you're playing a piece while looking at music sheets, you are "sight reading".
That’s not what sight reading means
Never saw any of the Broadway shows, so to me she will always be Abby from Eight is Enough. I hope she values that too. She was great in that show.
isnt that kenny werner on piano?
Wow... Ms. Collins can blow!!!!
The greatest voice in Broadway history. Astonishing. Shoot that awful piano player.

Not a Rosie fan .Huge Betty Lynn Buckley fan 😉
Shows you how good Betty Buckley is ... anyone lesser would not be able to perform with that terrible pianist!!!
No one does it better than Glenn Close
The interpretation perhaps, but not the singing
Fair interpretation by Buckley, although she’s fine better. The dreadful, tuneless accompaniment otherwise ruins the number. All in all, a mess. Bummer waste of air time.
Scott Hamilton It’s a jazz arrangement. It’s not from the show.
Because he can’t play what’s written
I adore Betty but that hair is not doing her any favors.
Well, it was 1996.
THE BEST!
