+draw Fiend It was mainly Lucas; George Lucas was the one that insisted there be *aliens* in an Indiana Jones movie in order to pay homage to *50s sci fi B movies* even though Indiana Jones was meant to be a homage to adventure serials.
As a guy who grew up with marvel, I want DC's film to succeeded. I wanna see a good competition between the studios, almost like their rivalry with comic books. But with the direction DC/WB is going, I can't help but worry.
+SuperDandy Most of us want that too. I enjoyed both Marvel and D.C.'s universes and characters. Batman and Superman both were the first comic characters I became aware of, and Iron Man became my first Marvel comic I began to collect in earnest followed by Spiderman. Both universes are diverse and offer plenty. Sadly until W.B. gets their act together, the D.C. movies now have a nasty track record, with heavy mishandling, of the source material, and blatant corner-cutting to catch up to Marvel causing comic and movie goers to not trust any of the live-action D.C. brand movies. Batman Vs. Superman's failure should tell W.B. they need to really change things and hopefully promoting Afleck will help because right now the D.C. cinematic universe is a dud, a stinking, near-corpse on life support. As soon as they can, they need to deep-six Zack Snyder, and consider pushing back ALL their movies not in production and go back to the drawing board. Hell despite the financial cost; I think it'd be better to suck it up and take the money hit and delay Justice League. Right now without the other 'ensemble heroes solo movie's to help build the bridge of character investment. Given how W.B. screwed it up they oughta take it in the shorts, and fire a few morons who don't deserve their paychecks for letting this become such a cluster. I was always afraid Zack Snyder would be the doom of any comic book movie that wasn't dark like Watchman. I remember those words years ago about his 'type' of 'dark' movies, for Watchman that's fine, same with 300, or Sin City not mainstream super hero comicbook movies. Somebody was sleeping at the wheel hiring that man, and ought to have a pay cut or be outright fired. (Just like I I feel Sony Picture's CEO should be fire for hiring Tom Rothman and not giving Amy Pacal her pink slip; tho she may yet given Ghostbuster's is doomed to fail unless that trailer was just horribly edited.) Short and sweet Snyder is not cut out for this, he's a cancer for these kinds of films, the movie going public and diehard comic fans both have made it clear they LOATHE his take on the D.C. heroes. Even if Afleck's Batman was praised, it's still tinged by being a Batman on par with All-Star Batman and Robin's incarnation, the worst kind of Frank Miller-isms....hell Afleck's Batman actually FITS the mold of Crazy Steve, Linkara's interpretation of ASBAR give or take some crazy. It shouldn't be this way we should all be looking forward to both Marvel and D.C. films, now I'm dreading to see Suicide Squad...in fact I may not, I feel cheated seeing BVS, and well I don't feel W.B. deserves my money right now.
+XenoJehuty84 Very well said I'm in the same boat myself as well as a lot of fans I'm betting Suicide Squad is their last chance for me if this gets panned then I'm done with the DCEU until they get their crap straight. I honestly don't think we as fans deserved the abomination we got for BvS, and like you said until they figure this out I don't they deserve another penny from my pocket.
Marvel: Takes their time to craft the MCU with multiple films before even thinking of touching The Avengers. DC: Makes one Superman movie, that's good enough. Look, I want to see the DCEU become reality, but it won't happen if DC keeps rushing it, and especially if Snyder isn't let go.
+Resale Living that's a blueprint for any successful franchise, DC doesn't have to follow, I agree, but they need SS to do damn good, to make up for BVS.
+Resale Living Dont try to defend DC and WB Man of Steel and Batman v Superman got mediocre scores. And Marvel didnt craft their cinematic the Marvel way but they crafted it the right way!! and thats why the MCU is the highest grossing franchise of all time.Marvel actually care about their characters while DC and WB are just rushing everything and they really dont care about the characters they want to make profit of them so next time you try to defend WB and DC blindly just think about shifting the blame to them and towards Snyder for the mediocre response of BvS and MoS
Resale Living Well obviously their doing something right if their franchise has grossed 10 billion. Meanwhile, the DCEU keeps struggling to find its legs.
+Resale Living Yea..you missed his point. The creation of a universe shouldn't rely on 1 single movie. Sure DC doesn't have to follow the Marvel blueprint but they should have some idea of what they want their universe to look like. I mean they have one movie where there was absolutely no references to a bigger world of superheroes beyond an easter egg of a Wayne Enterprises building during the fight with Zod in MoS. And now all of a sudden other super powered begins exist but hardly ever use their powers and no one has ever heard of them beyond Alex "Bat-shit Crazy" Luthor. Sure they don't need a guy with an eyepatch to show up at the end if MoS but don't try to cram all this shit together without laying some sort of groundwork first. Say what you will, but that's why the movie failed IMO. Too many storylines crammed into one spot.
one thing is comics other is movies, the audience never have read that issue and will never do, so if you say batman is gonna be rape in that movie ppl will hate that movie, and remember that comics fans are like 1 or 2% of the main audience that goes to see movies
+Midnight's Edge Thank you! I love your content..The way you present in great detail I might add to your videos. Cant wait for more Ghostbusters and Fantastic 4stic stuff
Simon Kinberg recently threatened to make a Fantasic Four sequel. Hopefully Micheal B. Jordan jumping from Fox Marvel to Marvel Marvel with Black Panther will ensure that never happens.
+alexh4319 Why would he do that? Are FOX so stubborn that they would rather lose millions than have the rights passed back to MARVEL? Guess that X men v Avengers movie might not be on the table after all.
It's kind of ironic that DC is having trouble with the whole shared universe format in film when it's been so successful on TV. First there was the amazing DC animated universe that included Batman the animated series, Superman the animated series, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Static Shock and Batman Beyond and now the CW shows that exist in the same universe.
+EvanSol919 yeah it's almost like the film directors don't realise they need to take their time and set things up properly, like dominos, you only get the nice pattern if you plan it just right.
Danny Malzahn No but Marvel had 5 movies to set up the Avengers and we can see how successful that was. In DC we're getting the Justice League movie before Aquaman, Flash and Cybor's movies.
+Danny Malzahn Avengers was a good film partly because everyone knew the characters and their motivations. For example, all I knew about Lex in BvS was that he wanted Superman dead and would do anything to make that happen, apart from some daddy issues though it was never properly explained WHY.
Danny Malzahn You know why Stark doesn't trust Shield but Steve does, for one. We know why Banner is hiding out in India. We know why Thor feels the way he does about Loki and is so keen on bringing him back to his home. As for Lex, "I don't like to feel inferior" is very poor motivation for what he does. His burgeoning psychosis is more of a motivation but even that isn't properly explained. If we'd met Lex in a previous film we might have more than I don't like to feel inferior, we might also know why he is a looney.
Danny Malzahn Well somebody hasn't been paying attention. The interaction of Thor and Loki makes much more sense if you see the first Thor film. And because you'd got to know the characters previously you actually care what happens to them, something that you didn't get in BvS, although that might also be because none of the charactersxwere that likeable. And Lex was acting crazy before he ever got into the ship.
+odlanra serdna he kills off Jimmy and lex's assistant (forgot her name) two of the biggest superman characters in the first movie we see them in and they did nothing. Happy from Ironman was in all three and actually did some thing. how sad is that.
+Midnight's Edge I would've enjoyed a decent DCCU, but Snyder has already set the tone of the universe as bland, dark, humorless, and overburdened with shakycam and pointless explosions. Not to mention the characters are all way off. All I can hope for now is for JLA to be a huge, hilarious failure and for WB to reset the universe ten years down the line.
+GameStation3 I do if their laziness and incompetence warrant it. So far, all WB have done is attempt to cash in on Avengers' popularity without putting the work in and with no regard to the source material or the quality of the films.
I love hearing about the studio politics/drama & troubled productions of movies. This has now become my favorite genre. Your channel has become THE CHANNEL for my drug fix. Please keep feeding this addict!
I still laugh whenever I think of 'when I see a new Marvel film, I wonder if it's going the be 'the bad one'. When I see a new DC film, I wonder if it's going to be 'the good one''.
+Danny Malzahn Batman v Superman is a stunningly bad film on all fronts; writing, direction, editing, characters, dialogue... I struggle to understand how much money can be invested into a product and it still being so broken on a fundamental level. This movie was clearly made by someone who has absolutely no understanding of what the characters of Batman and Superman are about, and who has all the nuance and sensibility of an hormonal thirteen year boy. Ant-man was a lot of fun. And before you say 'Fun? Colours? In a comic film?? Not on DC's watch!!', keep in mind it only made $300,000 less than a film starring fucking Batman and Superman together for the first time. What does that tell you?
+Danny Malzahn I honestly can't tell is you're trolling or not. 'Tell me: do you bleed?' was one of the most cringey, juvenile things I've ever heard. Bad editing in this case was every new scene starting without establishing where the hell they were and just flat out being able to understand what was going on. Certain scenes in this film were just plain incomprehensible. If Batman 'is realising he's becoming a villain', why does he murder a total of 55 people in the running time of this film? Why does Superman kill anyone? Why does Superman save people while looking like he'd be doing literally anything else? Why does Lex Luthor... fucking anything??? See what I mean when I say that the director has a fundamental lack of understanding about what these characters are on a fundamental level? You can say what you like about Marvel movies but they are all made at the very least competently and with an understanding of what the characters are. Clearly I'm not going to change your mind and you're not going to change mine. Lest to say that when I saw Spawn in 1997, I thought that was the best thing ever. Now? Well... what do you think?
+Danny Malzahn For the record: Iron Man - great Incredible Hulk - below par Thor - great 'fluff'; an a-grade b-movie Captain America the First Avenger - not bad Iron Man 2 - not good; more franchise maintenance than a film Avengers - superb Iron Man 3 - okay Thor Dark World - okay Guardian of the Galaxy - superb Captain America Winter Soldier - superb; almost flawless Avengers Age of Ultron - good, not as good as I was hoping Ant Man - a lot of fun Captain America Civil War - good but with problems; severely overhyped Man of Steel - awful Batman v Superman - woeful
+Julian Webb I agree; BvS played more like a combination of 300 and Watchmen, which I was personally fine with, but general audiences and most comic fans clearly are not. Snyder's specialization is hard R-rated action films or subversive, moody thrillers, not necessarily crowd-pleasing spectacle films, and certainly not lighthearted ones at that. Warner Bros' decision to pick him for Superman always puzzled me, and again, I'm a fan of Snyder's.
+Todd Bollinger He also directed that animated owl movie *Legend of the Guardians: Owls of Ga'oole*. Warner must of had some love affair with Snyder for them to have him do WATCHMEN, Owls of Ga'oole, and Sucker Punch, all of which were consecutively released 2009 - 2011.
+Ryan Cox Fair enough, but in a celebrity obsessed culture like ours, why would a guy who rescues people and looks good doing it be treated like a pariah? Superman has always stood for truth and justice, he's not an X Man.
+Ryan Cox I see what you mean. I think my overall issue is the darker tone Snyder has instilled in these films. I enjoyed his version of Batman, for the most part, but his reckless killing spree was too much. Yeah, I know it's a future Batman with heavy psychological scars, but this isn't the mainstream version we know and love. I enjoyed the movie and plan to buy it, but I have plenty of criticisms. From the looks of things, I'm not alone.
+The Sean Ward Show I enjoy his voice and obsession with details, I feel like a East German spy is delivering my superhero movie news to me in the smoke filled back room of a 1955 seedy Berlin bar.
They're not where the Avengers are because they rushed it instead of having single movies of each character to eventually bring them together like marvel did.
Bingo it had no time to breathe, marvel cooked everything in the oven, seasoned it and let it cool before serving it. DC stuck everything in the microwave and put extra hot , hot sauce on it without our permission and said $20 enjoy.
It doesn't have to be done the same way. If it were, people would be complaining for DC cinematic universe copying MCU, which isn't perfect btw (cof cof, the incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Age of Ultron...).
It's not to rip off Marvel to do it. It's just the sensible way of doing it. You're just excusing WB and DC rushing out the DCEU instead of building it up properly.
+Dexter Riley Snyder would make an excellent music video director. Watch Sucker Punch some time with the sound off and some Pink Floyd playing on the stereo. Snyder does fantastic visuals, which is all that's necessary for a music video.
Great video again guys. Once again I subscribed and keep coming back because, unlike some other channels where opinions and speculation are just blasted out as fact, this channel does their homework and research BEFORE presenting their analysis. And when presenting speculative/opinion based analysis, also providing possible counter points. I *LOVE* informative stuff like this and have suggested this channel to anyone I know who would be interested. Imagine that, DC/WB is having problems behind the scenes because they rushed to catch up with Marvel, didn't plan ahead with scheduling, and as you put it so well "painted themselves into a [contractual] corner" with Snyder. And further- imagine that, Snyder doesn't have the first clue of how to present his characters anything beyond the buzz words "darker", "dumber-er", and "killing people". Sounds like some of the previous critiques of him word for word. Strange. People accuse myself and others of being biased against DC/WB or just being Marvel fanboys simply because we point out how DC is repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot. Each time DC cocks the hammer back for the next shot and aims directly and purposefully at their before mentioned mangled foot, people who comment "You wanna re-think that DC" are lambasted. This news makes me hope that DC has finally caught on that maybe Snyder isn't the best trigger man for their major projects. And perhaps the rest of their projects should not be Snyder clones, lest they miss the mark too. The public, fans, and critics alike have made it very clear- they do not want Snyder or Snyder like projects.
+boredcollegestudent Well, some people can enjoy things you don't. It seems you're trying hard not to sound like your opinion is fact while you are in fact doing that. Critics dislike serious hero movies.
EyeofValor Its not that critics don't dislike serious super hero movies. They dislike super hero movies that take themselves too seriously. There is a difference and it shows.
boredcollegestudent Didn't really get that impression too much with this movie. Critics dislike serious super hero movies and love jokey gag movies more than anything. That may be your opinion again, but I still disagree.
EyeofValor I'd put forth that both Captain America: Winter Soldier and Civil War are plenty serious. However, they carry the right mix of seriousness and silliness. They walked the line pretty well, didn't take themselves too seriously despite heavy topics, and were successful because of it.
boredcollegestudent That doesn't really add anything to this conversation. Both were pretty much loved by critics. If you just dislike serious hero movies, that's your opinion. I enjoy both kinds.
WB: "What happened? Where did we go wrong? We thought this movie would be a hit!" Me: "Two words. Zack. Snyder. Or if you want me to be more specific; you should've given Batman his own movie first, had JUST Superman and Batman meet and team up against *THE REAL* Lex and the Joker (just like the animated series), given Wonder Woman her own movie, and then finally introduce the Justice League movie. Obviously it would continue after that, but you got too greedy for your tiny money grubbing hands.
It is interesting to think just how far reaching the ripples of BvS' failure might extend, not just for the DCEU but other movies in WB studios, as well as Superhero films in general. When Civil War was released it was tentatively predicted to score about $200 million opening weekend. It ended with about $180 million which is still great, but it makes me wonder if general audiences were a little more hesitant to come and see another big Superhero movie after the previous one was a pretty big disappointment (especially because superficially both movies share similar premises). Would Civil War have benefited more from BvS' success than it did in it's failure? I think yes. BvS' failure shook the public confidence and perception of Superhero films in general, regardless of brand affiliations. It caused media and public speculation that audiences were finally feeling the dreaded "Superhero fatigue" we've hearing about for years now. I believe that some people decided to wait and hear word of mouth to see if they should go and pay money to see it and in doing so kept Civil War from being the biggest Marvel opening. It's like what you guys said in your video on the Marvel/Critic conspiracy, Marvel wants DC to succeed in movies, because one studios' success continues to ensure the large investments both of these studios have allocated to the superhero genre. The failure of one studio puts more pressure on the other.
I say again, as a fan of Zack Snyder's work, it continues to puzzle me why Warner Bros. decided to double-down on the man after the incredibly divisive, mixed reaction to Man of Steel (2013) which they later admitted to also expecting to gross higher than it did. Things make even less sense when you take into account how Justice League, Pt. 1 was scheduled to begin shooting *immediately* after BvS released, thus banking on a successful reception of 3-4 massive tentpole blockbusters by a director with a proven polarizing track record. I understand that WB was in a reactive state, hoping to catch up with Marvel Studios and their MCU, but given the sheer name brand recognition of their lead characters (Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman), you'd think they could afford to take their time. Put Snyder in charge of cinematography, why don't you, remove David S. Goyer, and find someone who specializes in character-driven narratives to direct and/or write.
This is what happens when WB hires a director (Snyder) and a writer (Goyer) who either don't have a clue about DC's World's Greatest or just don't give a crap about them as it's evident on BVS. This film was rushed. WB should've taken time to build up the DCU filmverse as Marvel did and then do BVS, The Death of Superman and finally Justice League with Superman returning. Three films that could've been developed AFTER solo films for Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and other Justice League members. Look how well Marvel has done with their filmverse. As a DC fans its so frustrating to see how badly Snyder messed up TWICE both with MOS and BVS.
+Gino Picart I've been saying that for years. Countless idiots kept telling me that I couldn't know the movies would suck or under preform because I "hadn't seen it yet" Basic inductive reasoning skills are apparently hard to come by in this day and age.
I’m sad to see him leave the Batman role but damm ben afeck as produce wow it’s about time he steps up and help but I mostly want him producer for the flashpoint movie
Jay Bauman of Red Letter Media said a few years ago that he watched Watchmen with Snyders commentary track and that throughout the whole thing, Snyder kept saying things like "I did this because it looked cool" or "I shot it like that because it looked cool" and that Snyder never offered any comments more insightful or meaningful than that. And Bauman said that because of that, he couldn't stand listening to the commentary track anymore. Lol!
+dkamphaus43 Go look up the youtube channel Cheshire Cat Studios and look at their Batman V Superman commentary; it goes over some stuff on just what Zack Snyder is doing wrong. Check it out and feel free to reply your thoughts on it.
As we learned with the Hobbit movies, if film makers don't have time to properly prepare a movie it turns out a disorganized clusterbomb. When Peter Jackson took over, they didn't move the schedule back, so they made decisions on the fly. This applies to Justice League not only to why they can't switch directors, but also what we can expect from Snyder. Since filming began so soon, either: 1. All that preparation was already done likely as part of BvS, in which case we already know what we'll get--BvS Round 2 - The Rematch-ening. Just like Jackson couldn't corral the momentum of the Hobbit, Affleck will be able to do less on Justice League. 2. Snyder simply doesn't do that sort of preparation work. It would explain how his storytelling is so terrible, with the incoherence of BvS being a notable example. If you didn't like BvS, then I think you can assume JL is already lost. I hope Wonder Woman is good, and I don't know what to expect for the next Batman movie, but I have no faith in any of their other universe movies.
+youthnando91 the movie is poorly edited and it's one of it's biggest issues, there are a bunch of shots where plastered together without a narrative thread that ties them together, the director approves the final cut of the film but you are partly right, the director is the most visible head of the project so he's blames when something goes wrong, even if they are other people to blame, still he's supposed to be the one who puts his vision of a screenplay into film, so he still has a great deal of blame to be had about the film, besides, his career filled with mediocre and bad films doesn't help him either
I honestly think that Zack is an awesome director as in the same mention that Micheal Bay is great too, but those guys don't understand the story part of the making of a movie, hence why Transformers are still around.
+Isaac Barlow that or the cartoon serieses like Animated or Prime....problem with the movies is there are good stories in them...they're just sidetracted by poorly written human characters.
How much attitudes and opinions have changed x 2020 - planet earth demands the Snyder cut of justice league so WB are pumping another $30 million in to it as a result and the internet is screaming for Batfleck to come back to the role 😎😎💪💪💛💛😜😜
Rob Sol we Snyder fans have grown stronger since then..it’s kinda scary thinking about it now. Did we and do we have extremist and toxic people in it? Yes, but we are trying to get them out because all we want is more comic movies from Zack. Movies we view as fun, action packed, deep, and artist driven.
I should stress that it's been claimed that the reason the director for Flash left was because WB wasn't comfortable having a first-time director for one of their movies after the response to BvS. Also, the rumors about James Wan leaving claimed that he wanted out because he didn't want to be associated with the same franchise that released BvS, and he's so far shot that rumor down.
If only WB would appoint Bruce Timm as their Kevin Feige. That's a man who has proven multiple times through the years that he really "gets" these characters. It's sad when children's shows from over a decade ago show more maturity and understanding of the characters than most of WB's films have. The difference is that people like Bruce Timm understand the characters and their stories, as well as what makes them great.
The hate this movie is getting is rediculous. I really liked the movie and so did many others. The voice of those who didn't is just extremely loud for some reason.
Why does everyone complain about Batman killing people in BVS and Superman killing Zod in Man of Steel but nobody complained about Batman killing people in Batman and Batman Returns or Superman killing Zod in Superman 2
There are many variables as to why. First of all, those other movies came out back when no one cared too much about superhero movies being faithful to stuff in the comics - they were just amazed these movies were made at all. Second, Superman only kills Zod in the theatrical cut of Superman 2. Though, I agree with you there - there's no big deal with Superman snapping Zod's neck in Man of Steel. Though, that brings me to the third and last point - considering Batman, he was in the Burton movies killing in total 4 people at most. And he only did it as a last resort thing. Meanwhile, he seems to be casually killing criminals in BvS left and right, not caring about that he does it even for a second.
+kurvos Dropping a grenade from the Batmobile killing 13+ dudes and blowing up all of Ace Chemicals while you are safe and secure in your indestructible car is not last resort. Trying to shoot Joker from the Batplane right in the chest while he is just simply standing in the street is not last resort. Arming a bomb that wasn't armed prior to knocking a guy out so he explodes or using the thrusters on the Batmobile to burn a man alive wasn't either. Did you watch the Burton movies? I own both cuts of Superman 2 he brutally murdered Zod in that version too. Then turns back time which technically reverts it I guess but that is worse "I can kill anyone and do anything then erase it because I am a god among insects." vs "I regretfully had to kill Zod to save the people of Earth and it hurt me to the point of crying like a baby that I did it" As for true to the comics. I seen Batman brutally and deliberately kill in the comics. Superman has also dropped bodies. There is about 80 years of history with both heroes and they have many variations in the comics. The BvS Batman is obviously based on the original Batman who not only killed people but actually carried a gun sorta like the T. Wayne Batman of Flashpoint. This Superman is not different from any Superman. Just go back and read some of your old comics or use a Google search Superman will kill. He also doesn't smile 24/7 his emotions match his situation. In the situations he has been placed in Superman wouldn't be smiling about. Like the time he was accused of being racist and was ran out of the Metropolis version of Harlem. He wasn't sunshine and rainbows he was depressed and questioning himself because people didn't accept him. Guess what these movies he is dealing with people not accepting him. The new DC movies are not bad or unfaithful to comics. Their only crime is not being made before Iron Man. If they were we would be saying "Why are MARVEL movies so campy?" instead of saying "Why are DC movies so dark?"
What are you talking about most of them are Elseworld o alternative realities, some of those comic book specials were writters are more free to do watherver they want. *>Did you watch the Burton movies?* Thats the case of the 90s Batman, and at it wasnt that kind of controversy or drama, or fanrage, because most of the audience were kids and young adults. At the time we used to watch movies like Robocop, just compare that with Batman at the time... and also there was not internet. *>I own both cuts of Superman 2 he brutally murdered Zod...* About the 70s Superman he doesnt revert time because he wanted to hide the murder of Zod, he did it to revert all the damage that Zod and his gang did at the whole planet. (Remember that he conquered the world until Superman returns from the Fortress) And no, he NEVER seems himself as an god among insect, (Batman v Superman people in the roof scene maybe it is in your mind) if something the Donner movie show us how hard he tried to be a normal human beign. Watch the whole Clark Kent momments of the movie, is pure gold to me the best part is when he save Lois to beign shot, and he acted like he fainted of terror and the part where he left Lois floating in the river man, what a good laugh i had, And not it, doesnt trigeered a radom memory from his past. *>"I regretfully had to kill Zod to save the people of Earth and it hurt me to the point of crying like a baby that I did it"* In Man of Steel he killed Zod and cryied, but we never see him caring for the lives of the people. How many buildings he drops in the battle? And dont tell me that "Zod forced him" he took Zod and carried him as a bag twice in the movie and if we want to go to the future he took Doomsday to space. But we both know what happen. Battling in a desert doesnt sell tickets. (Michael Bay 101) And after killing Zod and crying like a baby because "it hurts", he goes to destroy a drone and dropped it in front a militar convoy and says: "I do wathever i want, lol, took your millon dollars survileance robot, it is not like i am going to jail or at least pay money for that" and we see a cameo from a militar chick fan of Snyder who said "I think he is hot"... *>Superman has also dropped bodies.* The Superman also dropped bodies i think that you are reffering to the movie "Superman Doomsday", and he was the clone. Not Superman. *>based on the original Batman who not only killed people but actually carried a gun* Most of villains in the early Batman comics died from his own doing, DC never wanted to see both of their flagship character killing people. The times that he used guns in the Golden Age it was never intended to go to kill villans, if something it was used to last resort to activate a engine or something over the top that was usual in that era. *>carried a gun sorta like the T. Wayne Batman of Flashpoint* Thomas Wayne Batman doesnt belong to the mainstream continuity of DC. Is another reality, another timeline. *>Google search Superman will kill* The google result is full of cashgrabbing morons like watchmojo who doesnt read a damn comic until that momment and make it tottally out of context. *> he was depressed and questioning himself because people didn't accept him.* About the depressed and selfquestioning Superman i am not sure what arc are you referencing to, i assure that those are the worst ones... the filler ones until the next big event happens. Time in time Superman try to make an "Spiderman no more arc" and fails. *>Their only crime is not being made before Iron Man* I dont think so. At the time, DC was kicking ass with the Batman Trilogy, but then DC went greedy and wanted to make the same thing as Marvel, instead of keep making good stan alone movies, and a great example of that are the WB series, Flash is awsome, and my god Constantine make looks the movie like an awful joke. I dont like Arrow and Smallville, but people seems to enjoy both. They are doing this for money thats all.
Every time I read or heard some DCEU news I wish they reboot their universe once and for all. By the way midnight's edge what happened to josh trank is he dead or missing or have a new independent movie are there any news about him.
+Midnight's Edge Speaking of Fant4stic, why is Simon Kenberg suggesting on a Fant4stic 2? Is FOX really that eager to keep the rights away from MARVEL? Fant4stic freaking bombed for crying out loud! This just seems like *Square Enix Final Fantasy XIII* level of backwards business logic. What do you think?
+Fer Zum I don't want to come off as contradictory, but I really do not want to see the DCEU rebooted, because as well as getting rid of Snyder, Goyer, Terrio and all the other production staff, you'd also lose a solid cast of actors who've been nigh spot-on casting (Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane) as well as actors who have yet to prove themselves (Margo Robbie, Jared Leto, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Jason Momoa). To me, losing that would be kinda like throwing the baby out with the bathwater, and while I have come to resent Snyder and Goyer for setting us in this decidedly darker universe, I still root for this cast to have their chance to play their characters. But I will say that the CW DC-verse is starting to shape up nicely with Arrow, Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, and even Constantine to a certain extent. More A-list superheroes could follow and they could launch their own Justice League that's lighter in tone and more true to the comics' spirit.
Kudos , great video as always guys. And Im not sure if the gentlemans name is Andre , but he has really improved on his script reading . Its quicker and smoother, and his improvements are much appreciated !
does Zack really think being Dark in a Batman movie means Batman have to get RAPED?? Rape is a dark theme, yes. Batman is a complicated character his psychy is torn apart by his pain and gulit and self punishment and the need of justice, and his fear of slipping down to the hole of revenge and becoming a criminal himself. not to mention the mask he puts on to protect himself and i don't mean the Batman costume. i feel when you say let's make Batman get raped, it shows how much you have no clue how many dark thoughts batman deal with. and rob the character it is colors and make people see batman for what he truly he is more than a man in batman suit fighting crime and own cool gadgets.
I keep chuckling to myself whenever I see that quote from him about wanting to have Batman raped on film, especially with that horrified Batman face meme.
Salem Witch it doesn't really matter if was raped or not. The problem is Zack don't understand how to make batman Dark you know outside from making the movie shoot in Midnight apparently. Other words he doesn't understand how to handle and deliver a character like batman, or superman. 😒
+DARKROSE9090 Of course he doesn't understand. He didn't understand all of WATCHMEN's themes enough to make the movie adaptation anything special. The film was kind of self-indulgent in terms of nostalgia and violence, while the graphic novel is much more powerful and complex than "oh it has sex and violence".
I've always thought Affleck should have been the JL director. Right now he's a band aid on a bullet hole. Can WB turn it around, maybe. Thanks to BvS though Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Justice League need to be home runs. Man of Steel was a bump that was easily fixed. BvS made it worse.
For a movie like Justice League, there would need to have special effects. Snyder is proficient with that. Affleck has no experience whatsoever. But yeah I would like to see someone else behind the mantle of Justice League such as Matthew Vaughn or Joss Whedon
So Zack Snyder wants to see Batman getting prison raped? I almost sneezed out my soda from laughter after hearing about Snyder`s specific "preferences" for dark content in DC movies, it sounds too over the top to be true, and yet it`s sadly true. -_- Looks like Josh Trank isn't the only director of a bad high profile superhero movie with ambiguous psychological issues.
I'm curious to know what the budget for Suicide Squad will be after the reshoots are taken into account. Apparently the budget was already in the stratosphere before the reshoots, so there is going to be an immense amount of pressure for SS to succeed big time at the box office. From what I've heard SS's budget is around $250 million without taking reshoots into account. Keep up the good work guys. Looking forward to your future videos as always.
Hey guys, great video as always! Just a question though because it wasn't that clear from the video: Ben now has the last word on the franchise, correct? So he can veto certain things and is going to be more involved ... but he is still not Kevin Feige, correct? So my question is this: How does that help DC? Yes they brought more order into their cinematic universe but it is still plagued by the lack of a person in the position of Kevin Feige over at Marvel. In your "Batman v Superman Aftermath: What DC must learn from" you emphasized the idea that DC is pretty much lost without the "end all arguments here" person. How is Ben going to solve any of the big issues if he is just one of many people in their brain trust? There is still no order, no system, no structure and no single united vision. Was are your thoughts? Am I understanding that wrong?
+Sersch Manske Excellent observation there, Sersch. You are right, there still is no order, no system, no structure and no single united vision. They still haven't got a Kevin Feige. Ben Affleck's job here is more or less to ensure that Justice League will be recieved better than Batman v Superman, but it doesn't solve the bigger issue that they lack an overarching issue. This is but a quick fix.
+Midnight's Edge Thank you for your insight. It saddens me very much to see DC in this state, since I personally enjoy their heroes more than Marvels properties. Please keep up the spectacular work! Looking forward to your next video :)
+Sersch Manske I thought I read some where that they have it set up like that for some reason to have different voices on it, which clearly isn't working if I see this correctly DC.
+Isaac Barlow Hey Isaac, yeah I really don't understand why there are going this route, either. Even in engineering - one of the most collaborative jobs - you still have project supervisors and project managers that are basically the Kevin Feige of this particular group or team. And to be quite honest, I don't know of a single field or job where you just have a team as the decision makers without a team leader ... do you? What are your thoughts Isaac? Do you think, that a construct like that might work or will DC have to totally rearrange everything to have one clear vision?
Marvel has succeeded with the "Captain of the ship" meaning that they have a man at the helm and they KNOW where they are going, for example When they wrote Iron man 2, they had a map to where they would go. Now has it be totally creative, some would say no, because they have to "set up" the next movie or the next move which in my opinion does tend to limit you creatively however its about the bigger picture. If I was in charge of DCEU I would push back Justice League and focus on the individual movies and stories...I;ll say it again STORIES ..lol. If seemed as if DC seen the profits of Marvel and With there second or third tier characters and said, Hell we have characters let make some money....with no plan, no thought, no care....this is why you fail DC...
Great analysis. WB is not in a good situation. Whether or not people liked BVS, having another polarizing film(arguably more mixed than MOS) is bad. Especially, considering even some fans of MOS have jumped ship. Ouch. As such, I don't blame WB being pissed off. Especially, when one takes into account of Synder's promises of massive revenue and getting WB one step closer to Marvel Studios. Especially, considering the franchise has crossed in the 10 Billion dollar mark. Thus, I agree that Ben Affleck's promotion to Executive Producer was made to both pander and act as a safeguard from Synder. Though, I fear that this might cause further rifts between Synder and the studio. Synder's interview during Watchman is all too revealing. It is very clear that he shouldn't have directed Superman or Batman. Other projects, maybe? As for not firing Synder, I agree objectively that the costs would have been enormous. This reflecting poor planning and judgment. Though, that doesn't mean I'm for him being the director. But WB already is facing a problem with casual audiences. BVS has already dealt a huge blow to casual audiences.I knew people who didn't even want to see Civil War because of BVS. Luckily, the positive word of mouth plus some convincing made them change their minds. But even if WB could get them back, Suicide Squad is literally WB's last chance. They cannot afford to slip up. WB needs some type of leadership. I've found out they have some executive table with Zack and Deborah Synder on the committee. I'm sorry but they need to be removed. While I cannot speak for Deborah Synder, Zack Synder's name is sadly very toxic right now. And as such, bringing in a Geoff Johns or some experts is absolutely required. I pray for WB at this point. Their shortcomings will not only stymie their own agenda, but also CBMs in general.
You guys should know better than to jump on the bandwagon and repeat a quote from an interview years ago on a different film completely out of context. Snyder was talking about how dark and non kid friendly Watchmen is compared to other CBM's. And so if a character like Batman were to ever exist in that world he COULD not would but COULD be raped because the cuffs are off so to speak in terms of limitations, oh and he was raped in the comics by Talia al Ghul. As for his taste in terms of comics, if it wasn't obvious at this point he clearly likes darker stories. And theres nothing wrong with that; I like action movies more then romantic movies because of the shootouts and sheer energy of it. So he likes more adult comics because of the adult content.
I don't think Ben Affleck can save Justice League... He likes Zack Snyder too much as a friend. Remember Ben Affleck was originally hired by Zack Snyder just to act in the movie nothing more. Ben Affleck influence started to grow when he was first concerned about the BVS script. But I'm afraid that Affleck wont push Snyder too hard because Snyder was the one that cast him as Batman, and stuck by Affleck's side when everybody was saying Affleck was a bad choice for playing batman.
Batman V. Superman at the very least is better that Daredevil and many other superhero movies in general. I´m not saying the movie has its problems and most opions about them are valid criticism, but I think the media and people are overblowing how bad the movie really is. Zack Snyder is crazy, and I hope the next couple of movies they restrain him much more than before. He is very creative, but he needs someone who controls him. I just hope Affleck can do the job as executive producer.
I think it's a matter of taste, I do consider BvS part of the lowest tier. I don't think the Daredevil film is good, but I like it way better than BvS. I had no fun at all watching BvS, I just wanted it to be over. Ant-Man, which sucked, was at least entertaining. I love Batman and Superman and I'd love to see them in a decent film.
***** Most people knows Batman and Superman from TV, cartoons and movies, specially the newest generations. People that claim that Superman has never killed clearly doesn´t know the story from the comics. Usually, the general public don´t know the characters too well. Daredevil is hardly a C-list character anymore, maybe since Born Again by Frank Miller. he even has been an Avenger. There was no excuse on how boring in general the movie was. There have been lots of great stories around DD. "His biggest claims to fame are when he's fighting other heroes..." No. Fuck no. Read Born Again, Frank Miller´s run, Ed Brubaker´s run, Bendis´ run or Devil of the Guard, just to mention a few. Crossovers are always happening. It´s like saying that Spider-Man is only good because he crosses paths with lots of characters.
Spike I agree with you. It´s matter of taste. I can understand why people don´t like dark tone on superhero movies, but just because it´s a dark story doesn´t mean is a bad story, and I feel that is what happened with the criticism. In my opinion, BvS was entertaining, but misguided in several aspects, but the tone is what I liked the most.
+I am Hit-Girl, I actually enjoy mostly the dark-toned superhero stories. Batman v Superman is only dark in the photography department. Snyder's take on superheroes is cheesy, low brow, hardboiled slugfests, to be honest. 300 is pretty much his only good adaptation; it's a pretty straightforward story and Miller was there helping out. Dredd, Punisher: War Zone, The Crow, V for Vendetta, the Daredevil TV show... all really dark and WAY better.
+Spike Yeah. I have seen most of Zack Snyder's adaptation of WATCHMEN once, but having just now gotten the pleasure of reading the graphic novel, I believe that in WATCHMEN's case reading is a more memorable experience. All of Zack Snyder's films, except Sucker Punch, have been adaptations: 300, WATCHMEN, Legend of the Guardians: Owls of Ga'oole (yeah he was the one who directed that animated owl movie). Zack Snyder just does what he does because he thinks "it would be cool".
BvS killed elements of two great storylines, arguably some of DC's most famous storylines: Death of Superman and The Dark Knight Returns. What a waste. They could've been great. I'm scared for what comes after JLA since they're not sticking to the source material.
As far as the comparison between Brett Ratner coming in at the last minute to direct X-Men: The Last Stand (in response to why Snyder hasn't been fired from Justice League) - Batman v. Superman makes The Last Stand look like an Oscar contender.
If WB is so concerned with the absolute success of Justice League wouldn't it be smarter to just to bench Synder? They can afford to push the film back another year and just make Synder a producer or even a creative consultant. I understand they feel is though if they coddle Snyder enough, he can make a good JL film. But if you really don't want to gamble the odds, just tell him to take a backseat for now.
The DCEU is a mess waiting to happen. So far the two entries in the canon have underwhelmed, and the rumors swirling around the issues with Suicide Squad are more troubling yet. Not that I was really interested in SS, as I think it'll be a hard sell anyway...but the Batman movie will apparently stuff as many villains in there as possible? And they want to do a Harley Quinn-led movie when SS hasn't even proven itself a success? WB needs a Feige-type to steer the ship, because clearly said ship is a leaky boat ready to go under unless someone can patch the growing number of holes.
Great stuff you present here. Really enjoy this channel. Also like the explanation of, why Zack Snyder is not being fired from Justice League. It starts to make sense, in a way. keep up the good work.
dc fan boys: man of steel will be the movie that shows dceu is great. after mos. oh ummm bvs will be the movie that will show the dceu is great. after bvs. oh ummm suicide squad will be the movie that will show dceu is great. in the future after ss. oh ummm. wonder woman will be the movie that will show dceu is great. after ww. oh ummm JL will be the movie that shows that the dceu is.... you know what I don't care anymore. go marvel.
+the insurance lmao BvS was the movie that turned me to Marvel. Having a blast working my way up the movie universe, at Ant-Man and soon to watch Civil War. Go Cap!
go cut and paste and play it safe marvel. all their movies are mediocre imo. and no I don't think mos or bvs were awesome movies. my favorite superman is Christopher Reeve and favorite batman is the animated version.
As always wonderful work. Ironically Speilberg who is facing down the gun with his own potential flop with Disney's the BFG (had bad reviews in Cannes) said that it would be a string of flops and one big studio crashing on genre film making. It's still a race between Sony and now Warner with Sony saving face with the aid of Marvel on Spider man. What's interesting is that Marvel is likely to reach out, possibly to Fox next, and keep the superhero film going from the way of the western but superhero and genre fatigue is circulating more than ever with Civil War being seen as a pleasant exception rather than a default of quality blockbusters. We've just started to see 2020 plans emerge but it will be interesting to see if X-Men under preforms, reviews are poor, and another hit is taken. Say nothing of Ghost-gate which I can't wait for.
+incufish23 I found Civil War a "hard sit" to many motivations were inconstant with the previous material for me - it's like the Iron Man 3 vs Age of Ultron problem where no explanation of why Tony is back in the suit is offered at all - not even a single line. To Many modern Movies skimp on explanation and scene transitions - leaving the audience confused as to what the hell is going on sometimes. people used to mock George Lucas for always having a cut-away when a light saber was dropped - but I say well done george as you are at least trying to be visually clear in what you are showing - this is also why the camera angles are static on the Pod race and almost always left to right - that said the second lap stuff they cut is not like that and I actually prefer that stuff - but oh well. A bit more clarity of purpose would help in modern movies I feel.
+incufish23 Well, "X-Men: Apocalypse" right now is getting slammed by critics, not as badly as BvS, but worse than "X-Men: The Last Stand," which seems to be considered a clunker in retrospect. If basically everyone else but the Marvel/Sony series ends up tripping on themselves, then the superhero style may very well reach its "bubble-burst" moment.
Interestingenough4 Thanks for the great comment. Yeah X-Men will do well but leave a bad aftertaste, heck didn't even know that Last stand was a clunker I thought it was a better example of the genre. I get the feeling we're reaching that bubble bursting point especially with BvS falling flat. Marvel will keep this boat afloat, it likely has Fantastic Four in it's control, but this trend maybe too big for even Disney to control. That also must make Disney nervous as their stocks have been up and down the past 2 years and their easily king of the new Hollywood that genre movies have defined.
I came here expecting a serious video, I wasn't expecting you guys to slip in that little editing gag during the Snyder quote about Batman. As a result I nearly died laughing.
One correction: BATMAN V. SUPERMAN's second-weekend drop wasn't "less than 1% away from the epochal drop experienced by Ang Lee's HULK." HULK only dropped 60% in its second weekend; BvS dropped 69%. The same as 2015's big disaster FANTASTIC FOUR.
Those 3 directors you mentioned are trash. Like you said, it's better keeping Snyder if that were the case. Hell, might as well throw Uwe Boll in that group while you're at it.
+SupplySide Jesus HAHAHAHAHAHA! Holy Shit!! I can't top that. 'Cut to seen on rooftop. Bruce Wayne walks in and starts talking about Wonder Woman. "I did not hit her. It's not true. It's bullshit! I did not hit her! I did noooot! Oh, hi Clark."'
I checked the actual numbers. The Hulk in 2003's second weekend drop was 69.7 percent per Box Office Mojo. The actual second weekend drop for Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice was 69.1 percent. So it was actually less than a 1 percent difference. The difference was actually 0.6%.
I put zero faith in the Suicide Squad comment due to Dagnino having promoted the Point Break remake as being great, saying "It's going to be a real thrill ride, trust me!" Later on, Dagnino admitted on Twitter to 'having a horse in the race', i.e. a vested interest in the movie and thus swaying people to go see it. It makes me wonder if he has a vested interest in making people *not* see Suicide Squad. Ayer has a track record of writing and directing some great movies (Training Day) and some damn good ones (Fury, End of Watch) and some not bad ones, but realistically, no terrible ones. At worst he's utterly watchable. For this I'll give Ayer benefit of the doubt over Dagnino who has been exposed as a shill and a liar in the past by his own hand.
So Dagnino, like the progressive media with Fant4stic, was trying to enforce a certain movie that everyone knew was going to be pointless from the start? It's like the entertainment news and certain UA-cam channels are always like "just give it a chaaaance", well why should I spend money to see I movie I am not keen on seeing; would Dagnino rather I had went to see Point*less* Break than STAR WARS VII?
Not at all, what I am saying however is if I hear information from a more credible source, I'll give it more levity. For now, Dagnino has proven he's an unreliable source with well shown bias in such matters and hasn't exactly provided any sources to his claim other than 'it's a mess'. If I came out and said 'Suicide Squad is a glorious movie', technically it has as much credibility, as I too have written for many movie sites in the past, including my own, have worked in the industry to some degree and can claim 'sources'. I'm not saying it's *not* a mess, but in this case, logically we're gonna need a 'better source' than Dagnino to confirm this.
+Julian Webb But at least it was used in the right way. Interesting, but doubtful as there is nothing to back it. All the qualifiers were used correctly when using a single source.
7:35 I think this argument was a mistake to use and even fallacious . With the context given, Snyder didn't say this is what he wished or would do with Batman but rather an example of what could be expected from his films if he was making batman. I think if you didn't take the position of "He wants to sexually assault batman" but rather "This is what he considered for a batman film"gives a better impact and is more defensible.
To quote my favorite maxim from systems architecture, "In creating a new [movie, trilogy, cinematic universe], all the important mistakes are made on the first day."
Ben Affleck earned my respect when I heard a snippet of his audio commentary for Armageddon DVD (thank you Honest Trailers): "I asked Michael why it was easier to train oil drillers to become astronauts than it was to train astronauts to become oil drillers and he told me to shut the fuck up. So that was the end of that talk."
+WaruKrook Even if it somehow was it still in the same universe as Man of Steel, Dawn of Justice and all of the other bullshit. Does it even matter if it's "amazing" at this point?
It's not a flop. That's just people running there mouth about things they don't understand, riding a popular bandwagon, or who just love to hate. You're right, it didn't live up to the "movie executives" expectations, but is by no means a flop. The movie did make a profit. If it didn't, we wouldn't be getting Justice League, or the other planned DC movies.
Damnit people. Making a Justice League movie and making a decent DC Expanded Universe isn't exactly hard. Series of films: Wonder Woman - Wonder Woman (bright colorful yadda yadda) has been tasked by the Greek Gods to stop Ares, who is traveling to "Man's World" and is trying to start off World War III. Ares insists that he isn't a villain, however, and though the gods may think him evil, he feels that the greatest war ever would serve to prepare the world for an even greater war to come. Wonder Woman has to stop him before it is too late. Batman - Batman, in Gotham, fights criminals. There are two groups at work here, intergang (a high tech group of organized criminals) and the Joker. Eventually Intergang arms the Joker after their operation is jeopardized by the Batman. In part of the plot Batman deduces that Intergang's technology is alien in origin. Superman - Superman (the bright colored happy one) defends Metropolis from an Alien Attack lead by a conqueror named Kalibak and an army of Parademons. Kalibak is working with Lex Luthor, who until the reveal, doesn't realize Kalibak's true plans for the conquest/destruction of Metropolis. Kalibak is captured but will let it slip that what is coming is worse than he ever could be. Flash - The Flash (the brightly colored scarlet speedster) defends Central City from various rogues. In this case the Flash faces off against the villainous Reverse Flash who is robbing the city of advanced technology. In the end the Flash confronts the Reverse Flash who is building some kind of device that will do something to the entire city. When Flash defeats him (by knocking him into the device which sends him back to his own time) his parting words were that he wasn't trying to destroy the city, he was trying to save it by bringing it back to the future with him. Aquaman - Aquaman is the King of Atlantis and must defend his undersea kingdom from various threats. In this story Aquaman battles Black Manta, who is trying to gain the power of an ancient sea-God known as C'thon. C'thon is a legendary C'thulhu-like monster that, according to Myth, will awaken when the end of the world is at hand. Aquaman manages to defeat Black Manta and return C'thon to his slumber. In doing so he gets visions of the world in flames, as C'thon declares that he was "to be free when the end of the world loomed." 5 films, all films independently and nearly simultaneously, for rapid fire release. All have hints of the coming enemy. Darkseid. Batman with his realization of alien tech. Wonder Woman's Ares talking about a war to come. Superman's confrontation with Kalibak. The Flash with Reverse Flash's cryptic statement. Aquaman with the C'thon legend. Justice League - Batman rounds up Flash, and track the rumored Wonder Woman back to Paradise Island. Explaining to each what he learned. Flash and Diana both talk about the cryptic comments they witnessed. As Themyscara has contact with Atlantis, they seek council with Aquaman who also confirms that he recently ran into a being talking about an end of the world scenario. Finally they travel to Metropolis to seek out Kalibak to question him. It is there that they encounter Superman. As they do a series of Boom Tubes open up over Metripolis and a second invasion happens, this one larger than the previous one, and lead by a being known as Darkseid. Yes, DC Comics/Warner Bros. You can send the check to me by responding to this message...
Again: Ben Affleck is going through a divorse with Jennifer Garner right now. It's more likely, that this is Sadffleck. A father who thinks about his 3 kids. This is when speculation leads to blowing things out of proportion.
According to elmayimbe, he claims the only version of BvS that tested well was the 3 hr cut. Which was why they were touting the extended cut days before the (theatrical cut) film was released to the public. Anyone else here this or have any corroborating evidence?
thing is, way before it was released, me and my friend knew this wasn't going to work. all Warner Bros try to do with catch up with with Marvel and they failed at that miserably because they thought by adding Batman Superman and Wonder Woman wand make others appear makes them will quickly catch up with Marvel. No, they didn't earn the time and respect that Marvel made. Batman v Superman should've just been called Prelude to Justice League, because that what this is, a quarter of Justice League
+JakeⓋ yeah, maybe for you and me because we read alot of comics. But for my friends who never did, i had too explain everything that was going on like "who was that red guy in the thunder?" etc
+JakeⓋ I'd say "important" is a strong word. Batman is the only one with an arc. Superman is just there to be a philosophical punching bag. The irony is that we're meant to feel like he's human at heart, yet he's just an idea, and Snyder completely failed at making him seem like just a man. And then there's Wonder Woman, whom I'm not sure why anyone would consider her "complex." She's in the film for 10 minutes and wants a photograph for some reason. She comes in at the end to help fight a CGI monster. Not exactly what I would call "deep." Oh yeah, and Luthor is basically a bad fan fiction. His motivation about proving that Superman isn't a god is something an edgy preteen would write
The thing with Stan Lee though is obviously hes getting on now, so its more hassle he just wouldnt be able to keep up with every single detail, or issue with the amount of Marvel movies that come out, its more to honor him because he define most of these superheroes. Now I dont think BvS was terrible, and I dont think Snyder should be fired, this is just his style, look at Watchmen and ofcourse people never really liked that movie but it was actually a very faithful adap to the Watchmen comics. I mean look at movies from franchise like The Transformers, fuckin Micheal Bay, he should be sacked but no he just goes on to keep churning them out every yr. And yes I know TF movies have all made big money, look Kanye West has made big money sold millions albums, but doesnt mean hes a great music artist. Justice League can work really well, even with Snyder doing it if he just doesnt make it so ambiguous like he did BvS. I mean I actually liked the movie I will admit it was not perfect. Snyder could have done with not focusing too much on trying to work in the Justice League members. like Cyborg, Aquaman should have all been introduced in Justice League really, it did make the movie abit too convoluted. BvS should have focused mainly on the beef between Bats and Supes and then introducing Wonder Woman thats enough characters right there, and have that nice little scene with Flash trying to communicate with Bats through time that was nice, interesting.
Things are a lot worst at WB, seeing how they just released a commercial for Lethal Weapon the TV show. I'm fine with a reboot seeing how Danny Glover and Mel Gibson for getting old, and Mel for lossing his mind. But the TV commercial was bad, and I mean really bad. And seeing how Wb also oked one bazaar tv show based on the DC cinematic universe, being a sitcom about a Insurance adjuster. As well as a TV show about Jor-El, superman's father.
BEn Affleck Knew the fans would hate his Casting. He admitted in an interview that he was warned by Warner Executives that fans would not like him. He also admitted in a separate interview that he knew the "Batman he would be portraying would be nothing like the Batman of the comics. He doesn't get the play the victim card and I call Bullshit on him being a "card carrying Batman Fan"
His (Zach Snyder's) true feelings about superheroes have gotten out!? Snyder never made a secret about what he felt about superheroes, and his penchant for violence and rape, among other issues. That Warner Bros executives missed the HUGE red flags about him is all due to their lack of due diligence, not as far as I am aware, to anything that Snyder did. Apparently, Warner Bros executives know nothing about the characters that they are in charge of managing. That's all on them.
One important fact is that studios, comprised of people with only enough creative vision to fill a shot glass, really stick their noses where they don't belong and have massive input over the filmmakers and writers..so you can imagine with giant movies like this..the creative minds behind the construction of these stories are on leashes that the executives yank on whenever they don't like what they're seeing or hearing.
At the end of the day, Snyder did get Batman, AND Superman, raped, AND in public.
Well yes, and he was the rapist.
+Spike I guess he took his cues from how Lucas and Spielberg treated Indiana Jones.
+draw Fiend It was mainly Lucas; George Lucas was the one that insisted there be *aliens* in an Indiana Jones movie in order to pay homage to *50s sci fi B movies* even though Indiana Jones was meant to be a homage to adventure serials.
Brandon Dozier
Yeah, but Spielberg went along with it, not even trying to make it ambiguous.
***** I am sure that Lucas kept bugging him about the alien stuff so he just went with it.
DC needs a Kevin Feige ASAP.
+Dimitri Bitu Agreed
+Dimitri Bitu They have one, his name is Bruce Timm. Damn them for not using his talents.
+Dimitri Bitu Heck! Even a Kevin Smith would do! Just not Zack Snyder!
+Dimitri Bitu Geoff Jones is going to take that role it has been confirmed.
+Derfel Link, please?
+SuperDandy At this point, I really don't see how the DCEU can still work out...it is built on such shaky ground.
Resale Living
Well obviously their doing something right if their franchise has grossed 10 billion. Meanwhile, the DCEU keeps struggling to find its legs.
+Resale Living one year is not enough
"... to see Batman raped.." ? Um, really?
+Danny Malzahn How do you know he wasn't serious?
From the 1987 one-shot titled Batman: Son of the Demon by Mike Barr. Also Nightwing was raped by the vigilante Tarantula in Nightwing #93
the only one have seen write that stuff is YOU !!!
one thing is comics other is movies, the audience never have read that issue and will never do, so if you say batman is gonna be rape in that movie ppl will hate that movie, and remember that comics fans are like 1 or 2% of the main audience that goes to see movies
Yea I while I hope Snyder was joking, I don't think that's the kind of prison rape he meant.
Part 2 of the Spider-Man Cinematic Saga will be up towards the end of the week!
More Ghostbusters and Fantastic Four also coming soon…
+Midnight's Edge Cant wait for more of your videos.
+Midnight's Edge Oh yes. When I found out Fant4shit 2 I thought of your guys right away. I was right and you guys will make more videos on it!
WB's DCEU is quickly turning into a Sony Spider-Man shitstorm.
yup. I was afraid that this would happen
yes, yes yes yes yes yes. they so are. just one more mistake and that will be two cinematic universes destroy before they even really started.
Hopefully they'll sell the rights back to Marvel as well
who ever cast eisenberg as lex luthor needs to be fired at Warner's...probably Snyder.
it was Synder. He originally wanted him to play Jimmy but changed him to play Lex for some reason.
+Spartain14 and thought it was a great idea to have jimmy shot in the face
+odlanra serdna he kills off Jimmy and lex's assistant (forgot her name) two of the biggest superman characters in the first movie we see them in and they did nothing. Happy from Ironman was in all three and actually did some thing. how sad is that.
odlanra serdna yes mercy. they kill her and jimmy just like that. two characters that could have build this universe are now gone.
Danny Malzahn Jimmy was not he was one of Superman's and Lois's closes friends. And mercy was the only person that is the most loyal to lex.
The DCCU looks to provide entertainment for years to come...
through Snyder's and Warners' endless bumbling!
+Tiberian Fiend Well, lets hope they are able to create far better entertainment than that. No one wins on DC fumbling the ball.
+Tiberian Fiend If it does become a huge failure, then Warner Bros will probably be on the verge of bankruptcy. You don't want that to happen, do you?
+GameStation3 I do if their laziness and incompetence warrant it. So far, all WB have done is attempt to cash in on Avengers' popularity without putting the work in and with no regard to the source material or the quality of the films.

Your continued tone in these WB opinion pieces, specifically one where you are getting tired of their bullshit is entertaining.

+MartyMcFly Hey McFly! What's the matter?... Chicken?
+Jackie M clock-blocked
I still laugh whenever I think of 'when I see a new Marvel film, I wonder if it's going the be 'the bad one'. When I see a new DC film, I wonder if it's going to be 'the good one''.
+Danny Malzahn Do you want to qualify that statement, son? 2008 was a long time ago...
+Danny Malzahn You use the word 'amazing' for Batman v Superman. Yes, I suppose 'amazing' would be one way to describe it...
+Danny Malzahn For the record:
Iron Man - great
Incredible Hulk - below par
Thor - great 'fluff'; an a-grade b-movie
Captain America the First Avenger - not bad
Iron Man 2 - not good; more franchise maintenance than a film
Avengers - superb
Iron Man 3 - okay
Thor Dark World - okay
Guardian of the Galaxy - superb
Captain America Winter Soldier - superb; almost flawless
Avengers Age of Ultron - good, not as good as I was hoping
Ant Man - a lot of fun
Captain America Civil War - good but with problems; severely overhyped
Man of Steel - awful
Batman v Superman - woeful
#SackSnyder
:D:D:D
keep him for the fight scenes
Snyder needs to make more movies like 300, all style, killing and manliness, all of which he clearly wants in his films
Yeah, it's not surprising to find out that Snyder doesn't really "get" these characters. Brooding Superman was probably the best example.
I watch every new upload right away. This channel has become my go-to source for superhero movie news.
+The Sean Ward Show I enjoy his voice and obsession with details, I feel like a East German spy is delivering my superhero movie news to me in the smoke filled back room of a 1955 seedy Berlin bar.
+Sellinga coerwa LOL
+Sellinga coerwa -- Whoa, that's imaginative! Seriously, what a cool way to make a compliment!
I like his precise way of talking.
Sean Ward's approval is all I need!
Snyder sounds like a real edgy guy.
That's because he is he's also Michael Bay filmmaker as well
They're not where the Avengers are because they rushed it instead of having single movies of each character to eventually bring them together like marvel did.
Hack Snyder should be working at a gas station somewhere, not wasting hundreds of millions of dollars on mediocre dudebro movies.
+Dexter Riley Snyder would make an excellent music video director. Watch Sucker Punch some time with the sound off and some Pink Floyd playing on the stereo. Snyder does fantastic visuals, which is all that's necessary for a music video.
+Wyld staar He did used to be a music video director before going into filmmaking.
EyeofValor
I'd put forth that both Captain America: Winter Soldier and Civil War are plenty serious.
Hard to believe we're hoping for Ben Affleck of all people to rein in Snyder. Zack never should have been allowed to touch a movie, any movie.
I really liked Watchmen, but yea Zack shouldn't have directed MOS or BVS. It's a shame.
WB: "What happened? Where did we go wrong? We thought this movie would be a hit!"
Me: "Two words. Zack.
When will the next Ghostbusters video come out? Can't waitttt
+Andrew O Best guess, in a week and a half, two weeks?
+Midnight's Edge Thanks so much for the reply yay!
+Midnight's Edge
I've been watching a dumpster fire in the mean time and I can barely tell the difference xD
+Midnight's Edge Will it included any mention of whether or not Paul Feig will be committed to a secure psychiatric unit?
Technically, Snyder *did* get both Batman *and* Superman raped...simultaneously... with his BvS... :/
Also look up "6 batshit ways Snyder is defending BvS" for more of his asinine comments.
No matter what, the DC cinematic universe will STILL suck. :( I'm sorry, but that's just the way I feel.
+spidey12345 On TV, yes, but not in cinemas. Not in my opinion.
Since filming began so soon, either:
People keep blaming Zack Snyder for BvS just like they blamed Joss Whedon for Age of Ultron. its the studio and writers fault not the directors.
+youthnando91 Well, they gave the job to a man who couldn't handle the pressure of this type of film. Everyone is partially to blame.
+youthnando91 the movie is poorly edited and it's one of it's biggest issues, there are a bunch of shots where plastered together without a narrative thread that ties them together, the director approves the final cut of the film
but you are partly right, the director is the most visible head of the project so he's blames when something goes wrong, even if they are other people to blame, still he's supposed to be the one who puts his vision of a screenplay into film, so he still has a great deal of blame to be had about the film, besides, his career filled with mediocre and bad films doesn't help him either
I honestly think that Zack is an awesome director as in the same mention that Micheal Bay is great too, but those guys don't understand the story part of the making of a movie, hence why Transformers are still around.
+Isaac Barlow that or the cartoon serieses like Animated or Prime....problem with the movies is there are good stories in them...they're just sidetracted by poorly written human characters.
exactly
+Isaac Barlow Snyder is great at visuals but fails as a storyteller. He should be a cinematographer, not a director.
Third'd. Just.... do what TMNT: out of the Shadows did, focus on THE TRANSFORMERS!!
Third'd. Just.... do what TMNT: out of the Shadows did, focus on THE TRANSFORMERS!!
"Suicide squad is a mess. This shouldn't be taken seriously".
OH WAIT.
That batman reaction at the raped in prison bit was hilarious. Hack Snyder is a fucking maniac.
Then turns back time which technically reverts it I guess but that is worse "I can kill anyone and do anything then erase it because I am a god among insects." vs "I regretfully had to kill Zod to save the people of Earth and it hurt me to the point of crying like a baby that I did it"
As for true to the comics.
*>Did you watch the Burton movies?*
Thats the case of the 90s Batman, and at it wasnt that kind of controversy or drama, or fanrage, because most of the audience were kids and young adults. At the time we used to watch movies like Robocop, just compare that with Batman at the time... and also there was not internet.
*>I own both cuts of Superman 2 he brutally murdered Zod...*
About the 70s Superman he doesnt revert time because he wanted to hide the murder of Zod, he did it to revert all the damage that Zod and his gang did at the whole planet. (Remember that he conquered the world until Superman returns from the Fortress)
And no, he NEVER seems himself as an god among insect, (Batman v Superman people in the roof scene maybe it is in your mind) if something the Donner movie show us how hard he tried to be a normal human beign. Watch the whole Clark Kent momments of the movie, is pure gold to me the best part is when he save Lois to beign shot, and he acted like he fainted of terror and the part where he left Lois floating in the river man, what a good laugh i had,
And not it, doesnt trigeered a radom memory from his past.
*>"I regretfully had to kill Zod to save the people of Earth and it hurt me to the point of crying like a baby that I did it"*
In Man of Steel he killed Zod and cryied, but we never see him caring for the lives of the people. How many buildings he drops in the battle? And dont tell me that "Zod forced him" he took Zod and carried him as a bag twice in the movie and if we want to go to the future he took Doomsday to space. But we both know what happen. Battling in a desert doesnt sell tickets. (Michael Bay 101)
And after killing Zod and crying like a baby because "it hurts", he goes to destroy a drone and dropped it in front a militar convoy and says: "I do wathever i want, lol, took your millon dollars survileance robot, it is not like i am going to jail or at least pay money for that" and we see a cameo from a militar chick fan of Snyder who said "I think he is hot"...
*>Superman has also dropped bodies.*
The Superman also dropped bodies i think that you are reffering to the movie "Superman Doomsday", and he was the clone. Not Superman.
*>based on the original Batman who not only killed people but actually carried a gun*
Most of villains in the early Batman comics died from his own doing, DC never wanted to see both of their flagship character killing people. The times that he used guns in the Golden Age it was never intended to go to kill villans, if something it was used to last resort to activate a engine or something over the top that was usual in that era.
*>carried a gun sorta like the T. Wayne Batman of Flashpoint*
Thomas Wayne Batman doesnt belong to the mainstream continuity of DC. Is another reality, another timeline.
*>Google search Superman will kill*
The google result is full of cashgrabbing morons like watchmojo who doesnt read a damn comic until that momment and make it tottally out of context.
*> he was depressed and questioning himself because people didn't accept him.*
About the depressed and selfquestioning Superman i am not sure what arc are you referencing to, i assure that those are the worst ones... the filler ones until the next big event happens. Time in time Superman try to make an "Spiderman no more arc" and fails.
*>Their only crime is not being made before Iron Man*
I dont think so.
+Fer Zum He remains lost in space, there are no news about him at this time.
+Midnight's Edge maybe he is trapped in that planet zero of fan4tastic and i hope after justice league they send zack snyder there
+Midnight's Edge Speaking of Fant4stic, why is Simon Kenberg suggesting on a Fant4stic 2?
+Oscar Stainton Reboot the whole damn thing. Fatfleck can go especially. Only keep Caville.
Didn't he already gotten raped by Talia Al Ghul?
Brandon Dozier and that is why my friend i don't watch comic book live action movies ever.
George Miller should have been given that privilege
For a movie like Justice League, there would need to have special effects. Snyder is proficient with that. Affleck has no experience whatsoever. But yeah I would like to see someone else behind the mantle of Justice League such as Matthew Vaughn or Joss Whedon
Thankfully DC Animated Films are great.Warner should had been looking in that direction for story and direction talent.
Unfortunately, most of the good money is in live action adaptations.
Just a question though because it wasn't that clear from the video:
Ben now has the last word on the franchise, correct?
I love these videos guys....You guys should have your own TV show...I would watch it religiously Thanks.
I am done with DCEU at the theatres. I will be waiting for Bootlegs from now on.
Affleck: Step into my office. Snyder: Why? Affleck: Because you're fucking fired.
Man watching this now, a couple weeks after the Aquaman release, I’m curious how much control ANYONE had
"Batman gets to keep his cherry" ... you kill me, man XD
The Director's Cut of Snyder's films clearly show he is a good director. The blame is not in him, but in WB's executives.
Love the use of Statler and Waldorf. They're far and away my favorite muppets characters. They really drove the point home in your video.
Another superb video guys, keep it up.
Also like the explanation of, why Zack Snyder is not
being fired from Justice League. It starts to make sense,
in a way.
keep up the good work.
dc fan boys: man of steel will be the movie that shows dceu is great. after mos. oh ummm bvs will be the movie that will show the dceu is great. after bvs. oh ummm suicide squad will be the movie that will show dceu is great. in the future after ss. oh ummm. wonder woman will be the movie that will show dceu is great. after ww. oh ummm JL will be the movie that shows that the dceu is.... you know what I don't care anymore. go marvel.
+the insurance
lmao
BvS was the movie that turned me to Marvel.
Having a blast working my way up the movie universe, at Ant-Man and soon to watch Civil War. Go Cap!
+Victor Richardson yep. Marvel rules.
+the insurance kamen rider >marvel
+Victor Richardson antman? lol
go cut and paste and play it safe marvel. all their movies are mediocre imo. and no I don't think mos or bvs were awesome movies. my favorite superman is Christopher Reeve and favorite batman is the animated version.
Great explanation about the logistics behind the film and the internal battle happening within WB. Really insightful.
batman getting raped just becaue its dark...WOW firr zack.
+modernwarrior24 There's a Batman porn. He doesn't get raped, but he does get his back broken by Bane at the end. Still a better film than BvS...
To be fair, Talia did rape him in the comics.
how exactly can a woman rape a man
TheLiquidPhantom
Same way as Bill Cosby.
+TheLiquidPhantom
That's not a serious fucking question, is it?
I loved Dawn of Justice. What does that make me - an arsehole or someone with terrible taste in films? Or both.
It makes you a filmgoer that liked BVS.
Someone with terrible taste in films
+incufish23
I found Civil War a "hard sit" to many motivations were inconstant with the previous material for me - it's like the Iron Man 3 vs Age of Ultron problem where no explanation of why Tony is back in the suit is offered at all - not even a single line.
LOL! Ghost-gate!
+90 Lancaster Tony is back in the suit cuz he's Iron Man. Duh.
Another great analysis. Love it guys.
Maybe Tommy Wiseau? At least Justice League would end up being entertaining.
The difference was actually 0.6%.
these are pretty good. you are gonna blow up!!
I cant believe Bobby Finstock was used as a source on this show hahaha
I hope Suicide Squad is amazing.
+WaruKrook Even if it somehow was it still in the same universe as Man of Steel, Dawn of Justice and all of the other bullshit. Does it even matter if it's "amazing" at this point?
Yeah, it underperformed the expectations, but you can't really say that a movie that got $900 million is a "box office flop."
3:48 "...the epochal drop experienced by Ang Lee's 'Hulk' way back in 2003."
- A very 2003 poster is shown. -
DC CCO Geoff Johns, John Berg and Ben Affleck will take over the running of DCEU film franchise
Damnit people.
Making a Justice League movie and making a decent DC Expanded Universe isn't exactly hard.
Series of films:
Wonder Woman - Wonder Woman (bright colorful yadda yadda) has been tasked by the Greek Gods to stop Ares, who is traveling to "Man's World" and is trying to start off World War III.
In doing so he gets visions of the world in flames, as C'thon declares that he was "to be free when the end of the world loomed."
5 films, all films independently and nearly simultaneously, for rapid fire release.
Affleck as executive producer = Damage control attempt.
I don't think it will be enough...
thing is, way before it was released, me and my friend knew this wasn't going to work. all Warner Bros try to do with catch up with with Marvel and they failed at that miserably because they thought by adding Batman Superman and Wonder Woman wand make others appear makes them will quickly catch up with Marvel. No, they didn't earn the time and respect that Marvel made.
Batman v Superman should've just been called Prelude to Justice League, because that what this is, a quarter of Justice League
I really liked BvS although i know it was not a good movie
+Windwalker88 The Batman bit of it was pretty fun, in my opinion. The film really nosedives in the second half, though.
*****
I liked Man of Steel the first time I watched it. Batman v Superman falls WELL short of MoS in my opinion.
+JakeⓋIm not. You can really notice that it used to be 4 hours long, because alot of scenes make no sense at all
+JakeⓋ yeah, maybe for you and me because we read alot of comics.
It's official-- Zack Snyder has no idea what the fuck he is doing.
Hack Synder
One important fact is that studios, comprised of people with only enough creative vision to fill a shot glass, really stick their noses where they don't belong and have massive input over the filmmakers and writers..so you can imagine with giant movies like this..the creative minds behind the construction of these stories are on leashes that the executives yank on whenever they don't like what they're seeing or hearing.
On Justice League, Zack Snyder is a Producer, George Miller is Producer, Ben Affleck is Producer, all on the same movie. Plus 5 other guys.
