No one can make chnap like them. When we go there we prefer inside or 1st floor as it is less crowded and have AC. We order biriyani, chnap, salad and cold drinks and firni in desert. Best combination.

Oh yeah Max one thing. Kolkata doesn’t have those Rickshaws that takes you from one place to the other. Here Rickshaws and Autos follow designated routes just like a public bus. This is because the traffic system here in Kolkata is very strict. For going to a place you need to use the public transportation including buses, autos and specially the metro. Google Maps is the best way to identify the routes. You can also use the manual rickshaws for travelling short distances of 2-3 kilometres. Or else Taxis and Uber is a suitable way to travel. Cheers!

    Hey !
You visited our restaurant-Aminia, a family business. It was delightful to watch you enjoy the famous Kolkata biryani.
Also, the Uber cab was taking a U turn to take you closer to your destination which you probably mistook and ended the ride earlier which is why you were charged less. Sometimes ride prices are calculated more accurately after you end the trip and therefore differ from the charges that were asked for at the time of booking.

Max did well not to listen to a vegetarian about biryani😂. Also Awadhi also means Lucknawi biryani. The thing is Kolkata biryani is derived from Lucknawi biryani , when the last Nawab of Awadh (currently the region in and around Lucknow) , Wajid Ali Shah was exiled by the british to Kolkata. Ali Shah brought all his awadhi cooks with him as well who were the pioneers of the current Kolkata Biryani as they made some modifications to the awadhi biryani to appeal to bengali tastebuds. The recipe has been carried forward from generation to generation and gained a lot of popularity in Kolkata and other parts of bengal as well. The addition of the potato was done at a time when meat was scarce. So in some restaurants the Kolkata Biryani is still mentioned as Awadhi or Lucknawi biryani.

Nothing like Hyderabad biryani and UP mutton handi curry, so awesome. Max and Chris u shd have asked a spoon for that Amina special dish. How come they did not keep a spoon in the curry, it's usually there in all dishes and the raw salad is for free included. They shd'nt charge for that. Eat plain basmati fried rice with nonveg curry u will not feel the spice, it will b lightly flavored without the masala. End all heavy dish with sweet pan, it's the ultimate taste. Try it. Nice to see u both enjoying the Indian food.

You nailed with the explanation of the biryani. However although that is a legendary restaurant that branch in particular nowadays have really gone down with their quality of food especially biryani. If you're still in Kol you should try ARSALAN(it was 500mts from Royal-from where you tried earlier in the day)and then you will realise that why generally the biryani of Kol doesn't comes with the serving of raita and salan(gravy)as the rice is pretty moist in itself
Also nice to see that man helping Chris with the taxi booking, hope when he goes back to his place he recalls this nice incidents like the man who saved his go pro from falling (delhi, macaroni samosa)and not the unfortunate bad ones (the one in sadhus attire, the bangladeshi man in nizamuddin area)

@@rehanansari009t's not a urdu word you fool urdu has loan words from persian that is farsi, sanskrit & chaghatai turkic language which was the original mother tongue of tge mughals. The word rumal is of farsi origin & farsi was the official language of the subcontinent for 100s of years during the sultanate period & followed by the mughal rule. So even though farsi wasn't actually spoken by the majority of Indians but many of the Indians both hindus & muslims who used to work in royal durbars used to get educated in writing farsi & hence there was an immense influence of farsi words in majority of the north Indian languages starting from Bengali, Assamese & ending with Sindhi, Dari.

Just to let you know - Max and Chris, "Rumal" means Handkerchief in Bengali/Hindi in India. And that's from where Rumali Roti gets its name. It is as thin and is served folded as a handkerchief.
