- After a Heifetz International Music Institute "Celebrity Series" concert was interrupted by a broken string on "Pablo," the prized 1717 cello that belonged to Pablo Casals and is now in the hands of cellist Amit Peled, faculty violinist Ilya Kaler jumped up and provided an impromptu - and amazing - performance of the "Recitativo und Scherzo" by Fritz Kreisler, to the delight of the audience in Francis Auditorium at Mary Baldwin University!

True artistry...classy..not showy...
Love the tone he gets on the 3 note chords, he get every voice ringing but with a warm sound and with no scratch. Fabulous playing.
What a fabulous performance, with such aplomb and virtuosity, as well as a sense of humor! Truly channeling Kreisler's spirit!
He is a tue musician ! His tune and interpretation GETS TO YOU ! I LOVE his playing !
One of the most underrated violinist.
"One of the most underrated violinists." Surely, as he definitely is one of the best of our time. Underrated as I did not know about him until recently (statistics of one, but to me it does matter). Technique and musicianship is plentiful in his playing. Teaching ability and personality not lacking ...
... what more could you wish for?
Maybe a wife/assistant of matching caliber. Well, the Kalers have that. Cleveland - Congratulations!!!
Simple playing but amazing! One of greatest!
What a great interpretation! So many people play it too fast.
I agree
Like Heifetz himself lol... But I do agree I much prefer this style
Well, that was fun - an emergency impromptu performance by Kaler vis a vis Kreisler. Thank you, Ilya!
Браво Маэстро!!
BRAVO !!!!
Brilliant playing... Amazing indeed
Wow! What fun to hear great music that you never knew existed played by such a fine violinist, Ilya Kaler ,whom you never heard of. Ignorance is bliss.
My sentiments exactly!! I had never heard of Ilya until a few days ago. Superb control and expression.
Guy won tchaik competiton I believe
@@daniel3231995 Yes, he won Tchaikovsky competition with gold medal 1986
Hadn’t heard of him either until the Cleveland of Music institute masterclass this summer. I’m so glad that I took the time to audit it. He’s an amazing teacher as well. Usually don’t get great performer and great teach package.
@@metroprepper9017 I agree with you. I talked to him 1986. He gave a concert in Sankt Petersburg in Russia. After that we had a talk. Very nice person!

SI ASI ES COMO SE TOCA
He looks like Zino Francescatti the violinist of an earlier era.
To hear Heifetz play this, press > four times
Can any fellow violinist explain to me why those last two As on 0.56 - 0.57 (double notes with D, bar 5 for anyone that has the sheet) are played natural and not flat - as it is written on any edition - in all interpretations I have listened to?Thank you
ese violin es un cholguanarius? made of (Hardboard )?
...las planchas de Cholguan, ya no se fabrican, pero es cierto que un violinista de esta tremenda categoría merece un instrumento mejor
He is playing a contemporary violin, isn't he? Maybe it could be a Curtin.
violinpassion91 yeah. On his 3rd one or so. His wife owns one as well
Since when the soloists start wearing the outfit looks like chinese traditional garment?
Superb violin playing
