This is literally the physics I'm learning about right now, very cool to see these theories applied in a relevant manner instead of seemingly pointless problems
David Bridge Hudson if it werent for "pointless" physics, the world would be much different than you know it. It being of no interest to you doesnt make it pointless or useless. Cheers
Pure Fact Oh I definitely agree, I don't find physics pointless I just find classroom problems to be unenjoyable at times is all. I quite enjoy physics but for me, if I can find real world application for myself, I understand and enjoy it that much more!
I've played a lot of ball in my days and it's always the players with the most bounce that have issues with their knees. I think this video is going to help a ton of young ballers take note and avoid that.
Im impressed man, nigga pulled out the scientific articles and shit! As a university student I'm always skeptical and critical what trainers say in regards to body kinetics and physics because they sound like they're pulling it out of their asses, but this stuff here is legit! Keep up the great work, I'm looking forward to more videos from you guys man!
Man I asked yall about ACL related content a couple months ago... and here it is. This is some GOOD SHIT!!!!!! Recovering from ACL surgery and had just passed my strength test, will be taking this next step to hopefully begin hooping again in the coming months. It's awesome to see how much this channel has grown. From basketball workouts to now, a much more intellectual approach that many overlook. Keep grinding ya'll.
Coming off a hip surgery 2 months ago, I gotta say i respect this video a lot. People think their invincible until shit happens. Sports Physicist spittin that knowledge, i really like it. Keep it up!
I actually have a physics midterm next week and it's awesome to see how the principles of physics are applied with the sport that I love to play. this was such an awesome video. I think this actually made me start to like physics now :)
I just want to say that I discovered this channel just a month ago. This is one of the best basketball development channels out there and I'm not even overexaggerating. Keep up the good work and thank you!
this is really interesting and kind of scary at the same time since i finally grabbed the rim today and devin makes a vid that teaches us how to not get injured when jumping...
I play college basketball and I've torn my ACL twice. If only I knew of these exercises before my injuries. You just got to keep a good mindset and fight through the struggles. Love this video man. Keep up this content
100% facts in this video! I always teach my athletes to land through the forefoot never flat footed or through the heel. Being that I tore my ACL twice, I always wished I had someone to tell me how to land. Being athletic and not landing properly were a recipe for disaster.
thanks for this tip, i love these videos you guys make that help us not only to become better athletes but these videos help us understand more on how to take care of our bodies too and teach us about the potential dangers that can happen when we do something wrong, so i think that you guys at the lab really help us a lot, plus it helps me a lot too so thank you
To anyone out there. Please learn how to prevent injuries like torn ACLs, meniscus before anything. You don't know how frustrating it is to recover from these injuries + never have the same athleticism again. I was like "that won't happen to me" and bam. Stuff like this is relevant after the injuries the most, but it's better for you to prevent injuries before they happen.
Such an important video, every time I see a good leaper that lands knees locked they always end up tearing something in their knee. I feel like I've been blessed never to have an acl tear but I'm sure landing in a squat, with my glutes, is a huge benfactor. Great video
I feel like I could be completely wrong but I’d love for someone to enlighten me. I have never had knee problems (knock on wood) but have bad ankle problems and have broken both of them. Thinking about landing on my toes I feel like the ankle has more flexibility for a twist or sprain instead of landing on solid flat foot? I could be completely wrong though.
I haven't had ACL issues, but I've had lower back injuries from in proper landing, the impact your spine endures on the landing is quite heavy. One thing Ive learned, is to listen to your body. If its aching or feels sprained, you need to rest and allow it to heal. Awareness prevention is better than pushing your body to potential breaking point.
I tore my ACL last year and no one tells you this stuff before you get injured. If we’re trying to create super athletes all the time why aren’t we doing it properly?
Can we make this a reoccurring thing like a series because we all desperately need to know more about how to use the body in the right way to better perform and prevent injuries
I was hooping in July last year and a long rebound came to around the top of the key when I grabbed it in the air. As soon as I landed I tried to beat a defender going to the right with a quick burst of speed. Before I finished the first step I ended up tearing my left Achilles . Really appreciate this kind of information
really great video. I really like the videos you make keep doing them. It would be a good idea to do like a workout to download (for free ) 😂 for all of us athletes
This is great is amazing and almost perfect information and especially the last section since that is what my actual doctor has told me I need to do to alleviate pain in my knees
How do you progress with band exercises if the heavier band won't allow for the range of motion? Because if you add more reps to each set each week with the lighter band wouldn't you eventually reach 100+reps and then the exercise would become inefficient? Or if you feel a stimilus after say 25 reps is that sufficient enough to gain strength? thanks
+In The Lab Great Video! As you said that weak hips can lead to ACL injuries, which muscle should be strengthened to avoid ankle injuries, or which muscle being weak causes ankle/foot injuries? Thanks!
So when i jump with one leg also land one the toes? I had acl surgery 7 months ago, training everyday to get back, but still not there yet!, Its tough man, but ill get there soon
I love these videos! it would be great if you could collaborate with Functional Patterns youtube channel. He does this kind of stuff, but you could apply his science to basketball.
The calculator was unnecessary lol, but good vid teaching the basic applied physics. Hopefully kids follow this advice and keep it in mind when training
I can't fathom how professional players could be that clumsy. It seems it's as a result of mental fatigue. As a result of mental fatigue they tap out of communication with their body and therefore start playing carelessly. I can't see how players who never got injured prior to the NBA all of a sudden get injured in the league where there is better sports science than was previously available to them. I think it's mental fatigue which causes them to start playing less focused, "present" basketball and that puts them out of touch with their body, which leads to these injuries.
Mind you NBA players do hypnosis sessions. That they don't to be publicized. That helps them inteinstical feel when an injury is occurring. For example. When you get crossed backwards notice how these players "flop" but in reality they are stoping the momentum from that misdirection to disrupt the force that would initially injure them. That's we see a lot of players fall to release the inertia of the positive energy into negative to reduce or nullify the impacts. Thanks. Barry
So I've been trying to work on my vert and me and my friend took film of me dunking and I seem to jump leaning forward before jumping and idk if it's my timing or what
In high school they made us go through a phase in weight training that helped developed our eccentric and concentric movements. We would do 4 second negatives and 1 second positives. I also worked on flexibility alongside muscles development. You'd be surprised how flexibility can save you from an injury. I've rolled ankles to the point where they'd normally be injuries. Of course I've thrown myself on the ground before any real weight is placed on any of the ligaments threshold.
i remember i heard my knee crack in mid air, and then i landed badly. somehow, the audience didn't see it coming for our team already did a turnover. i question if it was the way i started my jump. luckily, i only tore a few ligaments, and my recovery is going pretty well. i have the remaining four days to do my thing before rehab.
Anther tip: when landing, bend your knees do your knee cap or any part of your leg wont fracture (or be injured)... Land on your toes to decrease impact. Landing on your heels and keeping a straight leg while landing will increase injury changes by at least 1000% or (10x) then landing on toes while bending your legs on land impact.
Pure Fact He means pointless problems, not physics itself. Read carefully.
I've played a lot of ball in my days and it's always the players with the most bounce that have issues with their knees. I think this video is going to help a ton of young ballers take note and avoid that.
I had a lot bounce and then I lost it everything, tored ACL
you should do a whole video of just exercises that we can do and break them down. would appreciate it and help a lot
Riley Patterson yea
he could do that, but he also needs to earn his living
Riley Patterson yea
UA-cam is a way to earn a living....
One of the reasons why Harden is so durable is because he is elite at deceleration.
Im impressed man, nigga pulled out the scientific articles and shit! Keep up the great work, I'm looking forward to more videos from you guys man!
This nigga makes me want to like science lol. good shit
Shout out to all the short guy's with no bounce but who still dream of dunking one day.
We in this bish
Kingelow1 I feel your pain.
Hey I’m a short guy and I can dunk hehe
He sound like supremedreams_1 when he be doin them Instagram commentaries
Wesley Snipez yea i was thinking that was him
Bruce Lee ww

I don't even play basketball and I love these videos
Coming off a hip surgery 2 months ago, I gotta say i respect this video a lot. People think their invincible until shit happens. Sports Physicist spittin that knowledge, i really like it. Keep it up!
It's crazy to see this channel grow so much! It pretty much started from training 2 asian dudes.. Shift team hq/ten000hours/inthelab
I actually have a physics midterm next week and it's awesome to see how the principles of physics are applied with the sport that I love to play. this was such an awesome video. I think this actually made me start to like physics now :)
I'm glad that you're shedding light into this much needed issue that must be adressed at all levels and all forms of activity. Great job.
I just want to say that I discovered this channel just a month ago. This is one of the best basketball development channels out there and I'm not even overexaggerating. Keep up the good work and thank you!
Yo this actually blew my mind about not only jumping up is important, but the way down too... Great Video👍🏽
this is really interesting and kind of scary at the same time since i finally grabbed the rim today and devin makes a vid that teaches us how to not get injured when jumping...
I play college basketball and I've torn my ACL twice. If only I knew of these exercises before my injuries. You just got to keep a good mindset and fight through the struggles. Love this video man. Keep up this content
I needed that video 9 months ago...

What excercises do strenghten the external hip.rotators please? Perfect vid btw
Go to 7:25
Can tell this guy is passionate about his field. Gonna go a long way. Can see him specializing in injury prevention for a pro sports team
you explained this way better than my physics teacher ever did. i appreciate this more than anything. thank you man.
i like this guy, bring a new side to the grind that most of us take for granted and overlook
thanks for this tip, i love these videos you guys make that help us not only to become better athletes but these videos help us understand more on how to take care of our bodies too and teach us about the potential dangers that can happen when we do something wrong, so i think that you guys at the lab really help us a lot, plus it helps me a lot too so thank you
DOPE VIDEO BRO, I love watching you both with Devin! Thank you for the sharing the knowledge
Now all I want for christmas is hip-strengthening and deceleration drills.
This video is important so I'll continue to spread it. Salute to the work you put in!
This vid is too nice. Hope you can make a second one with the proper exercises to take care of ourselves properly. Awesome vid as always!
Great informative video and a huge THANK YOU for doing such quality stuff
I'm guessing most people here got injured before knowing all this. Great video. Hope there's more content like this to come
To anyone out there.

Derrick Rose needs to start doing this lol
Leo_Cerberus he already did that's why he doesn't dunk any more and it got me scared to dunk
SwagDocter im talking about hip exercises and stuff and learning how to land correctly...
SwagDocter and wtf he has been dunking dafuq 😂
Kinda what curry trains with his personal trainer.
Leo_Cerberus too late though. He does it now but it's just too late.
Cornell killed this one!! I hurt my knee coming down, and its never been the same
Waiting on that workout booklet !!! Willing to pay for that info
I feel like I could be completely wrong but I’d love for someone to enlighten me. I have never had knee problems (knock on wood) but have bad ankle problems and have broken both of them. Love this very educational videos! Keep more videos like this coming!

This video so helpful it helps in all aspects of being an athlete.
Great video, please make more about this concept
Thanks for this video brother. I learned alot. I'm looking forward to the next one for this series. Keep it up man this is dope ! God bless you.
Can we make this a reoccurring thing like a series because we all desperately need to know more about how to use the body in the right way to better perform and prevent injuries

Great video as always, really loving these types of videos!
Awesome video, that was more informational the whole chapter of my physics class on momentum
Mannn Dev & Cornell have been putting out that FIRE in 2017!!!!
Between UA-cam, Twitter, & IG (Those adidashoops go-to moves too)
Nice.😎
really enjoyed the commentary & the video. information was well-received, thank you much.
Let's go Cornell been waiting on this!!!👍
Keep grinding out the videos
The information in these videos is gold
can't wait for the next lesson. I'm get stronger and smarter form these video's. thanks
Great video man keep up the good work 👍
Yo tell me how to get up first, then I'll worry about the landing
that is exactly how injuries happen. Learn how to use the brakes before you drive
Tore my acl this year couldn't even get to play a game in my senior year love the videos tho. I plan to build up my hip strength
Like your style making videos... Keep it going meen!!!
You guys never disappoint!
Dang, this is what I call a quality channel
this was very helpful 💯👏
squats ,depth drops ,hang cleans jerks ,depth jumps snatch you must try to mimic the forces absorbed during basketball in a safe and progressive way

welp now I'm scared to jump 😂😂
Very informative video! Thank you:)
short version: land on your toes while bending your hips and strengthening your hips will help your landing
Is there any more exercises similar to the one you shown? I'm trying to get started now
+In The Lab Great Video! As you said that weak hips can lead to ACL injuries, which muscle should be strengthened to avoid ankle injuries, or which muscle being weak causes ankle/foot injuries? Thanks!
Do y'all think d rose can ever get back ? This is his first year without any serious knee injuries
celticeagle1000 no
It's Ya Boi Long Dick I 69 Inches Deep I think he can get close to it. His explosion is slowly coming back
He's already back just not better give him a year
It's Ya Boi Long Dick I 69 Inches Deep he's playing decent
He's back but he's just not the same player. He lost some confidence since 2010
Very helpful thank so much
How long do the bands take to arrive I think I ordered em on Sunday
jabari Parker needs to see this
What exercises or drills can I do in order to get my eccentric phase better.
I wish this was out before I tore my acl and meniscus maybe could of prevented it , i miss balling so much
This was a great video man. Way to simplify the content so that even I can understand. HAHA
I fw this typa stuff 💯
This gotta be Cornell with the commentary lol 😂🙏🏾....... I guessed this before they showed him at the end ❗️
I mess with this heavy
So when i jump with one leg also land one the toes? I had acl surgery 7 months ago, training everyday to get back, but still not there yet!,
Its tough man, but ill get there soon
Did you study Kinesiology? Cause that's my major now and we have no professors here that specialize on the knee and hip.
I love these videos! it would be great if you could collaborate with Functional Patterns youtube channel. He does this kind of stuff, but you could apply his science to basketball.

Make Humanity Great Again. Because NBA plays 82 games minimum. It's hella lot more games than college 30+
Great vid really insightful
Where can I sign up to learn more. Also thanks for these videos man
Will the sports physicist come out with a program to help athletes?
this is what I was looking for thanks @thesportsphysicist
Thank you so much!
Video was great I recently injured my knee too....
loved the video double thumbs up 👏👏
Your cousin has the same voice and accent as the dark skin guy from RDCworld1 in the beginning of the video
I already know about this thanks to by any means basketball
So I've been trying to work on my vert and me and my friend took film of me dunking and I seem to jump leaning forward before jumping and idk if it's my timing or what
SO MANY nba players need this
Deondray Mullen especially Drose

Got any more exercises for hip abductors and hip rotators?
