Here's the difference between American and European (or British) actors: I can't imagine an American actor, especially a newcomer, committing to an ongoing role as a gay man in a same-sex relationship. This isn't to say that things are uniformly better elsewhere, but American actors are largely afraid to take on such roles, and for good reason. The US, though making strides towards acceptance, is still quite homophobic. Or maybe Hollywood is.
