    TIME STAMPS BELOW. I know this stuff can get a little confusing, but like I said most of this is done by the games computer, you just have to be well prepared to help get the best odds on your side. I will continue to do these videos, and I might even break down this video down into two smaller more specific ones so people can get a better understanding, but for now I hope you guys can at least get an idea of what this game is going to be like when pertaining to the dice rolls.
    Time Stamps
    0:44 Intro to understanding
    2:49 What is the dice roll?
    4:15 Abilities
    6:27 Modifiers

    While I’m not a newb...it’s been....,cough cough. 20 years since I’ve table topped. Too long sadly, sadder still that I don’t know anyone that still plays near me. But this was a good refresher. Most if it came back to me as I was watching. And it helped to get me even more excited for the release! Great video as always.

    i am watching this as the early acces just went live on stadia and omg these video's are helping me out so much. I love table top games but never got into DnD and just felt lost during the first moments of the game. Your video's are very newbie friendly and are slowly giving me some understanding about how it all works. I also saw a bit of your stadia stream yesterday, we need more streamers like you who are positive towards the platform instead of bashing it down. Big Thumbs up and subscribe!

    Dude , baldurs gate 3 is so awesome , I haven’t finished act 1 yet because of my job and whatnot , but I’ve been taking my time , leveling up and getting to know my party members and how they all work , who’s gonna hold what , who’s killing everything , who’s sneaking , who’s the mage , and who’s the bard , it’s such a refreshing game , lately video games have been getting kinda stale , especially since I have a quest 2 and play demeo all the time , or contractors . Video games ain’t really the same after VR , but games like baldurs gate are perfect for platform gaming.

    It is simpler than it looks or sounds, but you are correct that knowing how the classes work will really help players choose/use the right weapons, etc. If you have 14 Dexterity, for example, using a Finesse weapon (eg.: ranged weapons, Dagger, Rapier, Scimitar, Shortsword) is a big factor (+2 to attack and to damage!); bonus you will not get if you use other types of weapons and have Strength 10 or less.

    Little more basic insight on the math. A +1 to your roll on a d20 (the 20 sided die rolled whenever you roll basically anything that isn't damage) accounts for a 5 percentage points increased chance of meeting an unknown DC. You might look at your Barbarian with +4 strength modifier and your rogue with a modest +1. The Barbarian isn't 4 times stronger than the the rogue. They are simply 15 percentage points more likely to hit.
    That might not feel like that much and it isn't. Luck accounts for a decent amount in D&D which is why this game isn't going to have you miss out on some kind of fun just because you rolled poorly. The true difference comes when we go beyond just adding natural aptitude (your ability scores), but also apply individual training (your proficiency bonus which scales everything you're trained in as you level). A barbarian is not bad at sneaking since they usually have a decent dexterity (+1 or +2) to avoid getting hit in combat and no armor to hinder them when attempting stealth. Even a low level rogue has the chance to have a +7 to to their stealth checks. A +3 from their natural aptitude and +2 from their training which is then doubled if the rogue a chosen stealth as an expertise (expertise being a class feature unique to skill based classes like rogues and bards).
    In the game, most checks will be one where certain characters can apply their proficiency bonus whether they are sneaking around, noticing/disabling traps, trying to intimidate a brigand or negotiate a favor with a potential ally.
    For the most parts, the game will likely give you a recommended progression for each companion in the game based on their class. Use common sense to imagine which class might excel at what or routinely read their character sheets. Other than that, simply strive for situations that might give you an advantage on an attack. I the tabletop game, that's usually striking from stealth or whatever thing you can come up with the dungeon master (think referee, in this case) wants to reward you for. In BG3, we've seen it can be things like getting high ground.

Heard about Baldur's Gate but never played it as i didn't had on what to even play it at that time. But it seemed interesting because of Divinity Original Sin 2. Now i'm thinking that maybe i should stay away from this. I'm not that much in to dialog or dice throws for every action. For me DND means do not disturb...

    • @DamashiTheKaotic
      @DamashiTheKaotic 4 роки тому

      @@Luca-bel Divinity 2 is a diffrent game. The game you are referring to is DOS2, which has significantly less random variables to keep track of than BG3, or other crpgs in general, so its entirely possible someone that loves DOS2 will hate BG3 depending on what aspects they loved about DOS2.

    • @Luca-bel

      Okay answer this, in terms of gameplay is baldurs gate 3 more like an orginal baldurs gate game or more like divinity orginal sin 2? It has nothing to do with politics its just common sense.

  • @EDKsurly
    @EDKsurly 4 роки тому +1

    So, can you gimp your character because of poor stat selection?

    • @jayadratha9836
      @jayadratha9836 4 роки тому +1

      Certain playstyles and classes want different ability scores to be high, and if you don't invest in those abilities, they won't be as effective. For example, if you want to play a barbarian who attacks up close with a greataxe, you'll want high Strength, since attacks with a greataxe use Strength. If you want to play a ranger who keeps their distance while filling the enemy full of arrows, you'll want high Dexterity, since ranged weapon attacks rely on it. If you don't invest in the ability scores that enhance your gameplan, your character will be less effective.
      Looking at the demo footage, the character creator automatically suggests an ability score spread when you select your class, so if you're lost you can use the suggested spread and you'll have good ability scores for that class' typical playstyle.

    • @heartoffire5902
      @heartoffire5902 4 роки тому

      When making your first character, I definitely recommend going with the suggested ability scores generated for your selected class, as Daniel mentioned. But down the line if you do want to get a bit more creative and experiment with unusual combinations of abilities and playstyles, you have the option of choosing ability focuses, skills, and gear that go outside the established meta. I've made a lot of builds that seem non-sensical at first, but are highly effective and very enjoyable to play.

    • @WolfheartFPS
      @WolfheartFPS  4 роки тому +2

      Hemlawk AKA EDK yes hem essentially you can. The rolling of the dice is pure luck, but the other factors added into the dice rolls can have big effects on the outcome. For example if you focus your points on strength and say constitution, and you have a weapon proficiency in greatswords, but for some reason you decide to use only daggers. Your dagger attacks are not only not going to not receive the dagger weapon proficiency bonus, they will also not receive the benefits from the dexterity modifier that you could be getting. But like the guys earlier said as long as you follow the basic guidelines for your class on your first play through you should be fine , it won’t be that easy to accidentally majorly “gimp” yourself.

    • @darencolby1916
      @darencolby1916 4 роки тому
