Making a song using only Indian instruments (Native Instruments Komplete India)

- Making a song from scratch in Ableton Live using only instruments from the Native Instruments India Discovery Series Kontakt sample pack which comes with Komplete. This is a collection of various instruments from India including the Sitar, Harmonium, Tabla and others. I don't make Indian music cause I'm not very familiar with that genre (although I have listened to a bit of it), so the music is more Balkan-inspired which is where I'm from. It's not really a "synth" and it's not really just "one" instrument but I'm still counting it as a one synth challenge cause it's a single plugin :) I also cheated at the end by using a bass from M-Tron pro. #onesynthchallenge

Ssquare!! You here bruh!
Sounds like a Mexican got drunk on shun wine and vodka, and got inspired to play some Balkan music with Indian instruments. I like it!
accurate
As a ( sometimes ) drunken ( part ) Mexican, I approve this message XP
Hahahahaha.... you are right!!!! It's not a good example of using Indian instruments...
That’s the very definition of World music! Isn’t it lovely when your not confined by arbitrary boundaries?
You nailed it 😜😂👍💯
A Russian song made with Indian instruments
more like italian song.
I wasn't expecting to hear this out of Indian instruments, I really like it
thanks!
I LOVE THIS SONG. LIKE DAMN. it sounds so genuine and derpy and sick as hell. Nice
lol @ derpy. thx
@@onceuponasynth derpy is not bad!
This sounds like french, mexican and indian mixed all together!
Sounds like "kaisa ye ishq hai"
It was cool along with fire.
You’re a true musician, it seems no matter the genre or vibe you can always make it happen.
thanks!
@@onceuponasynth I Love You
The instrumental sounds like video game rpg music
Watchout.. before Preetam steals it for some bollywood number!! 🙄 🤣
Damn😂
Lmao, this isn't an original composition. It's a generic Balkan music dumbass
@@darkpanda239 Pritam steals everything. He steals what's already been stolen.
Edit: oh I get it now. This is how he gets away from copyright. 😂
Yup
Lol
I think this one is actually one of my favorite songs you've compiled. Great work as usual!
A huge fan from India
I know you weren't going for an indian style of music, but a tip on the harmonium is that it is only ever played with one hand, as the other is continuosly pumping the bellow. Traditional indian music also has no moving harmony, just a drone or nothing. The "Bass" comes from the percussion instruments like Tabla which are very resonant and play tuned pitches, Tablas are tuned before each play and you create different pitches while playing by the way you mute the drum with your palm. Playing two handed chords on the harmonium and adding a bass kinda ruins the specific characteristics of these instruments and their function. You arent alone though, South asian pop music does that all the time. But it always sounds poor compared to when instruments are given the space to do their thing.
dude that should be the script to your own video!
The space you speak of is so important!
dfpguitar dumb ass just hear the creativity he done using our Indian instruments. And it sounds great
I suggest u should do some ...instead of wasting ur time
Dazie Fernandes I'm an Indian and learning indian classical over 8 years. He is absolutely right.
@@daziefernandes6245 why the aggression?
I leave positive comments on all OUAS's videos because I like his music and him as a person.
But feel he is missing out on the exploration, fun and challenge he sought by this exercise in the first place.
Real world acoustic instruments and all traditional creative tools, get their characteristic from their limitations MORE than their capabilities.
The sound of hip hop came from the limitations of early samplers.
The sound of rock & metal came from the limitations of guitars, drum kits and guitar amps. Amp distortion for example, is a limiting characteristic of electric guitar but it birthed the rock guitar sound and legato lead playing.
Limitations birth creativity and then that creativity develops into extremely rich culture over generations.
The sum of it all is what makes an acoustic instrument. If you don't stick to the boundaries of what is possible with the instrument in the real world, you may as well be using a synthesizer, digital instruments or doing granular synthesis built of samples.
The boundaries of instruments we are familiar with, we respect even without trying. For example the drum beats almost every producer builds (when using acoustic drum kit sounds) are generally rhythms you can play on a real drum kit. Even when using electronic percussion sounds, everyone usually sticks to rhythms a drummer could play. Because these rhythms are engrained in the culture that is western popular music. We have all grown up on this even if we were born in outside Europe & USA.
We also all have a subconscious awareness of what guitars, pianos, trumpets, etc can do in real life. So we intuitively stick to the boundaries when composing music with these sounds.
There is obviously a lot of interesting stuff you can do when intentionally going beyond what these instruments can do in real life. And I'm definitely not telling anyone not to do so.
But you can't really call a saxophone sound a saxophone when you use it to play chords in a DAW. Or a harpsichord a harpsichord if you are playing a mixture of loud and quiet notes. By not respecting its limitations you also remove yourself from the rich culture/history of music every instrument has.
Imagine actually playing the harmonium with 2 hands like you'll have to use your leg to pump that thing lol
In india here, we don't touch musical instruments with our leg.
We Indians used to do that lot earlier... Search for the pics on Google images.... Harmonium was, like any other organ, played with both hands, and pump with the legs... ( Left side was used to play a bass like note or even sometimes, with both hands, people used to play lead...
@@ravindra7944 wow i searched that. I didn't know about that earlier. It's different than harmoniums now.
@@aashishvats2012 yes😀👍
Lol you don't have to constantly pump it. Besides Harmonium gives a fuller sound than a piano even with a single hand.
Hello this is Sumit from Nepal. I like this piece of art. Hats off to Native Instruments. I am liking it a lot
Try making Indian sounding music with balkan instuments !
Your sound design/composition talents are so diverse that I’m consistently impressed with every genre you tackle

It's great to see someone use the Discovery Series and make such cool music with it! I've been on the fence with Komplete, but this is definitely helping the case!
you said this wont sound like indian music but this 100% sounds like it
And of top of everything, all that with just a two and a half octaves keyboard. Really impressive, and it sounds excellent.
Duuude! Amazing song, just like straight outta Kusturica mosvies. Cheers from the Balkans.
heh yeah Kusturica/Bregovic are definitely inspirations
I love your little songs. They always make me chuckle. Glad there was no blood on the floor in this one though. XD

COME TO INDIA AND ALWAYS YOU GOT SOME VIBE HERE
This is awsome... it can be a backgroud music for a indian advanture movie
Bansuri is not a kind of flute..... It IS a flute
No. It's a type of flute
@@MrSmoothvideos You must be keeping in mind the western flutes but if you translate flute in Hindi then the result will be "Bansuri"
Yes, it's a bamboo flute
MrSmoothvideos Basuri or flute was invented in India 5000 years ago....and thats why its generally made of wood, which mas been modified into steel and some other material, in the west....
Yes ! The translation of Flute is Bansuri in Hindi and Banshi in Bengali
Loved this track you came up with... I donno but somehow it relates to my older memories. Thank you

India = Russia
Yes...infact Indians love Russians a lot... A lot means... Literally a freaking lot.

nice try, as an Indian i apreciate you.
So Good. Solid Such a fast workflow XD
What a talented man!!! Appreciate your work !
Everything sounds so well. So nice but i want to tell you something about the sound of harmonium, actually we use single hand to play it, one note at a time, without gap between notes, so it will sound more authentic. Try it next time. Otherwise i really enjoyed the whole.
Sorry for bad english.
Wow this is awesome man.... 💞💞💞 love to hear ur music🎤🎼🎹🎶
It's more Arabic than Indian
but still good
Because they use same instruments
Actually. The scales they use. Arabic uses a double harmonic scale.
Indian music uses more microtonal scales which gives it its distinct sound.
Also. I’m not saying you’re wrong btw.
@@skatingwoodenguitars wow...... looks like you have a lot of music experience
@@skatingwoodenguitars actually, slight edit, arabic musically heavily depends on microtones or as we refer to it, quarter tones specifically. We have "Maqamat" which you can refer to as Arabian/persian scales. Most of the Maqamat have "Seka" which is the quarter note. Trust me, I'm arab ;) Indians as well ofc
Such an amazing composing! Vibrant, Tingling!!
