Great demo!! I think the finger assign function for harmonics/altissimo may have officially sold me on it! I just wish it was slightly less expensive, more like the $599 range haha.
Thanks so much for this effort. I just sold my EWI USB and WX-11 to fund this (but still hanging on to the WX-7s until I get it.) It'll be nice to have internal sounds like the EWI and not have to lug TOO much equipment around to a gig. Your videos will help us all to get up to speed more quickly out of the box. Very much appreciated.
Thanks for the great video. I have an EWI 5000 for a half a year now and I use the EVI fingering. Is it also possible to use the EVI fingering on the Roland Aerophone?
another thing i thought of is that it would be nice to have adjustable reed pitchbend curve and center width. i even have some specific curves mapped out in pbcurve by insert piz here software that mimic sax and trumpet behaviors that are pretty fun.
Hi Alistair - I have an AE-10, and to get the sax "growl " I need to push the thumb joystick to the left... but this is very clumsy for me to hold it in that position while I play a longer passage... can you tell me if there is a way to get this effect using a footswitch controller, or just change the parameter to have it on all the time (and assign to a specific User voice)? Thank you - I can't seem to find this answer anywhere...
I also meant to ask: How is the AE-10 set up to deal with the build-up of breath moisture inside the instrument, and indeed how straightforward is the removal/dispersal of the same, as compared with a normal saxophone instrument?
Great video clip, Alistair, thank you very much. Most informative, engaging, and thoroughly convincing! *hits the Subscribe button* As a budding synth enthusiast (synthusiast?), and as someone who had a go at learning the saxophone (Alto) for a few months before shelving the instrument to gather dust for 20 years, the AE-10 looks to be the perfect instrument for me. Finally, I can get back to re-learning the sax without worrying about disturbing my neighbours! :-) I think I'm going to find it somewhat difficult to resist the temptation to buy an AE-10, despite the price tag. Looking forward to watching other videos from you in the future.
Hi there Alastair. As others have said, your demos are easily the best thus far for the AE-10. Now that the CC02 issue is being sorted, any chance of asking Roland to produce a black model and incorporate standard MIDI Out? USB MIDI really limits the connectivity options.
Gary Mulholland If this device is class compliant (not needing a driver) there might be already solution. Mode machines have a device that transmits usb midi to din midi (classic midi port) without a pc. So you can connect directly to a midi in pory of a soundmodule.
This looks like an interesting addition to the windsynth world, but as a brass player, I'm curious. Are there preset brass fingerings, or do you have to reprogrammed the fingerings with the fingering assign setting?
Alistair, regarding the programmable fingering, if a fingering is already recognized, i.e. It is a standard fingering, is it possible to overwrite it? If all fingering combinations can be overwritten then it would be possible to turn this instrument into a brass controller or flute or oboe etc... This would be an incredible feature which would open up many more possible markets including even keyboard players!
just got the AE-10. BIG QUESTION: it seems to me, that the lip-sensor doesnt react for PB at it should -64 / +64. any experiences? the lip-sensor on my WX5 works very good. thx for a quick reply
Alistair Parnell yes, me too; just told roland about this issue. PB simply does not work. i measured the midi stream: fail! how can they start selling a product which fails on a basic function like lip-pitchbending!!!
Hello thank you for your time ! Great videos. Is it possible you can do some how to videos, like you did for the Ewi . It would really help many people , who are just learning the ae-10 . Again thank you for so many wonderful videos, and your outstanding performance. Happy New Year, Kind Regards, TotallyKenny
thanks for this video, it answered so many questions i had, all that can be answered for now i am sure. i am guessing you cant actually power it from just the usb? it probably needs more power than usb carries or such i am guessing. thanks for giving actual windsynth player/lover input to roland.
thank you!, just read all your messages and thats good to know and thanks thanks thanks for covering that. i loved your ensemble demo also, everyone did, its awesome!
Hi Allistair, now that you've played the Roland, what is your preference compared to the EWI 5000 (non usb version) I love the weight of the ewi, although difficult to get used to playing, still a lot of fun. Thanks for you informative videos !
Is the AE-10 feel authentic enough for a beginner to learn on? Obviously, a real sax will feel (and sound) different - but is the finger-work and breath resistance close enough, that it wouldn't be a terrible option to learn on ... ?! Thanks. :)
Hi Alistair, I am a student saxophonist and was wondering if you would consider this a useful silent practice tool? Or do you think it might allow a student to "get away" with incorrect technique? I practice as often as I can but am limited by my living arrangements.... A silent alternative would be great! Thank you for taking the time to produce all of these videos (and your older Ewi lessons as well!)
Thanks very much for the reply Alistair! I guess the best course of action for me is to wait a few weeks until they stay arriving in stores. By the sounds of it though, it seems as though I might be best sticking to a real sax until I'm a little more developed. Thanks again for the reply!
I am a hobby musician ( guitar player and a little piano) with no experience in wind instruments. But I am tempted to learn in order to make some recordings ( also hobby) with more "credible" wind instrument parts. Can I learn to play this instrument as an instrument as it is ( not as a replacement for a real sax in the late hours). Would this be worth the effort ?If i buy a beginner sax course book/dvd would this be a good start. Or are there too many differences between a sax and this roland device ?
Hello Can the Aerophone go app on android be used with this product? The system recognizes its presence but it connects wired mode with usb connectivity that is rarer to find today. And except error no Bluetooth to interface the device remotely?
Finally I bought the AKAI EWI 5000. I´m not convinced with the quality of the sound, niether with the capacity of expression. Maybe because of my lack of expertise, but I prefer a standard keyboard sintetizer. It provides me much more possibilities.
thank you so much for this and all your EWI videos! (i bought the EWI 5000 after listening to them). it seems that the roland is specifically for saxophone players, unlike the EWI, which is a much more generic instrument. unfortunately, the EWI has proved to be very unreliable - i'm onto the 2nd fix and still having problems! (i only played out once & embarrassingly it misbehaved!) the one thing i really like the look of on the roland, is the thumb-rest; i nearly lost the EWI while playing out & standing up, when i had few fingers on! i do love my EWI for playing in the house & on my balcony with headphones! i look forward to future videos of the roland, (which is a bit of an ugly brute!!) and to hearing the sounds!
Hi Alistair - I watched the video in closer detail and I was able to adjust the settings as I need them - thank you for a great video!
Alistair, you have easily done the best demos for the Roland AE-10! Thank you!
Very well done. Thanks Allstair. Good explanation for questions many of us had.
Very useful, Alistair. Thank you.

Great Video as usual I am certainly going to look at this as an addition to WX5 (which you taught me to play way back when you were at Alfreton Road)
Hi Mr Parnell, when will you be making some detailed videos of how to set up the Roland? I need some help, and I'm sure many other people will also.
Very nice presentation!
Great informative videos; this one and the ones on the EWI. They’re helping me which to buy, if at all. Thank you.
There has been an update (2.00). The cc2 message issue has been solved. You can choose now. Also 15 internal sounds were added.
Thanks for the great video. I have an EWI 5000 for a half a year now and I use the EVI fingering. Is it also possible to use the EVI fingering on the Roland Aerophone?
Nice job, Alistair.
Hi Alister, are you going to make short videos of how to programme the Roland properly?
another thing i thought of is that it would be nice to have adjustable reed pitchbend curve and center width. i even have some specific curves mapped out in pbcurve by insert piz here software that mimic sax and trumpet behaviors that are pretty fun.
superbly informative; thank you.
Sir,you're awesome. I'm considering buying the areophone but my concerns are the noise or click in the keys and how many sounds are on board.

Hey Alistair! Any idea if there will be a way to download all of the saxophone fingerings (harmonics, altissimo etc) to the instrument?
Great video clip, Alistair, thank you very much. Most informative, engaging, and thoroughly convincing! *hits the Subscribe button*

Great job as usual.

Denis Hermans Thanks Denis. I'll check that out...sounds interesting. The Aerophone IS class-compliant.

Hello, it would be worth to present an overview of all preset voices (40 preset sounds)
Could you give more details on how to "modify" cc11 to cc2 via mainstage ?
How would you compare the sounds of the Roland to the akai Ewi 5000?

The fingering on the AE10 will be very familiar to any saxophone player

thanks a lot for the great video. I have a little question mr. parnell: Do your earphones work if you put them in the conventional port???

How did you get a case for this, I'm sold on the idea, but I can't find that cool case
Thanks Alistair for the info
Hello
Can the Aerophone go app on android be used with this product? The system recognizes its presence but it connects wired mode with usb connectivity that is rarer to find today. And except error no Bluetooth to interface the device remotely?
The thumb lever, is that on/off or 0-127 on some configured CC? Also you wouldn't be playing Brecker on an EWI in the background would you =)
Good job =) Thanks for the info. Brecker is the single reason I got into wind controllers (not a wind player)
does it need cleaning at all? (great in depth review btw, really enjoyed it)
awesome, thanks
Hi Mr Parnell. I want to know which is the most simple wind controller? Thanks a lot.
***** Thank you! I will try aerophone in the future.
Can anyone tell me if I have to remove the tiny screws on the collar of the MPC to take it off for cleaning?
Great tutorial buddy
Have you or anyone you know of tried to use samplemodeling sounds on the Roland ?
Hi Alistair. I´m a pianist. I never played a saxophone. I´m planning to buy a digital wind instrument. Would you recomend Akai 5000 or AE-10?
Juan Carlos Martínez I'm a guitarist, never played a wind instrument , and also intrested in the ae 10 .
Did you buy one already ? Impressions ?
Finally I bought the AKAI EWI 5000. I´m not convinced with the quality of the sound, niether with the capacity of expression. Maybe because of my lack of expertise, but I prefer a standard keyboard sintetizer. It provides me much more possibilities.
Can you play electric guitar 🎸 solos on this instrument !??? For example👉 Neo- Classical etc 😨
thank you so much for this and all your EWI videos! Wish I stayed in band as a kid. This thing seems cool but I wouldn't know how to play anything but hotcross buns lol.
hi, does it come with the case and strap?
chelsygautama Yes this included in the package whrn you buy it.
What is the purpose of the rest keys, other that actual fingering keys? Is there a manual avaliable for this instrument?
Oops! Bought to play all saxophone sounds in church. Bringing all my real saxophones was a little much.
