I am Wendy, the girl in video and Tim's girlfriend for a few years. He was the true free spirit and a lot of fun. We did some crazy things, had crazy fun friends and life was excellent. It was great to be flying in the late 70s.
Hi Wendy, I met you and Tim a few times in 1979 and 1980 as I was tagging along with Peter Brown. Tim was not only a great hang glider pilot, he was also a great person. I never forgot the two, Tim and Peter!. Sincerely Morten, Norway.
If you still wish to see someone as talented as Tim go to Santa Barbara and watch David Saffold. He is a living legend and the first person I ever saw flying a glider in the early 1970"s, a week later I ordered my Wills standard. It has been 20 + years when I left the sport but I am coming back very soon to fly again. Life is short and passions must be fulfilled... Jim Wiley USHGA 14044
back in the 70's me and tim did experiments on suspesion in the keel of hangliders to make them track better and tim said what we had done was better but manufacturers are still reluctent to follow .. he was the best pilot of all time so i felt flattered when he approved of the advancements i made and sujested and he test flew at lake george near canberra australia . those were the days we were nieve as ever all ready to jump into a new situation dangerous and free the moyes csx uses my prefix
not only is he upside down in this video clip he also tied the side wires with shoes laces hence hes not wearing any shoes ...when paul vanhoff was killed at mount tamberine it hit tim and he never flew much after that ..when he moved to ainsely vilage for a while in canberra we went out to the girralang training slope and he showed all the beginners how to soar there ... in a straight out glide competition at lake george he would pump the bar and out fly everyone .. he said he could just look at a glider and tell exactly where the c/g was ..photo max would lend us his suzuki and we spent a lot of time mucking around at wiliamsdale seeing how slow and shallow a take off we could do without hitting the trees ...god bless
Some extraordinary footage. As I fly today, with my helmet, gloves, parachute, instruments, and radio communication, I see Tim Flying and and know that he was in a realm I will never experience. One part of me saying, hey man!!!! where is your helmet and shoes, and what the hell you doing flying without a harness, and another part marveling a the beautiful picture he was painting.
I was flying Makapuu in HI in the 80's and there was a guy doing really steep wingover in front of the launch standing in the control bar. I was impressed!
One of my instructors gave me a lift back to town after a day on the sand hills at Kurnell. He showed me this film, I've not seen it since. That was well over 20 years ago and I can still remember that afternoon like it was yesterday. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Jason HGFA 15178
best video on youtube. most beautifull singers and possibly the most natural and talented hang gliding ever achieved by our lousey, love-less, wasted spieces. salute timmy
There is no doubt that Tim was out there by himself when it came to flying skills. He was truely in tune with the wind and his wing. Pushed it a little to far sometimes. I miss those early days of flying with Tim and the Cohen crew. I wonder what Sir Lawrence Hargrave thought when Tim landed on top of his monument?
This superb flying by Tim Travis was filmed by another great pilot, Peter Brown. I think Bob Barnes had a bit to do with the film as well. I went to Australia in 1979, just when they were filming Tims flying. I lived with Peter at his place in Pacific Palms and met his friend Tim a couple of times. I feel privileged to have know Bob, Tim and Peter. Unfortunately, they all passed away. Life is full of surprises, sad ones as well. JanMorten, Norway
I grew up and learnt to fly in Pacific Palm, my Dad Ross Hannaford was my instructor, but all the local pilots were my mentors including Bob, who signed me off as a novice pilot, back in late 80’s early 90’s
cool stunts. I wonder if anyone has film of Gerry Breen flying. I have vivid memories of him doing 360's on top Of Meryther - on Hiyway S.scorpion - 360's with wingtip touching snow coverd ground and chute container scraping snow... ah memories!
My brother Craig and I used to fly around "the palms" back in the late '70s and early '80s. Peter and Bob chucked me off the dunes when I was learning. Craig was too scared. I think the camera this film came from belonged to Pete though after he passed away Bob Barns had the film for a long time. I think Craig gave it to someone else after Bob died. Now Craig's gone too. Too sad to think about.
Hi Craigs brother, - we may have met. I stayed in Peter Browns house in Pacific Palms in 1979 and 1980. I remember Pete had the flu and was sitting in his living room editing Super8 films about Tim travers. I do recall Craig had a younger brother who began hang gliding when I was there. Except for a hard landing on North Boomerang Beach ( I think that little hill was named Ross Malcolm) he had very fast progression and soared Blueys just after a few days. Perhaps that was you! I think you had a sister too! Sincerely, Morten, Norway.
Some one asked about who is singing already, but I think the answer was erased. In any case, it sounds like Michelle Simonal, but I can't find this version with guitar only on iTunes. Can anyone confirm who this is and suggest where to find this single?
Hello, I am desperately looking for this music version of Jo Coby and Rachel Christopher. Does anyone know where to find this in order to record or store it in Spotify or wherever ? Thanks and best regards from a Belgian hangglider
Around '85 I tried converting this film to video by projecting it onto a wall the pointing an old Sony Video8 camera at it. I'v e got about 30 minutes worth of that still which I have since put on DVD. Of course the quality gets worse and worse every time it's converted.
dickieperia, just run the super8 on the wall and re-capture it with a digital camera. The quality may not be the best, but at least you will have something on digital media.

Hi Wendy. Tim, you and that crazy crowd inspired me that summer at Stanwell, and I am still flying.Thanks.

Mind-blowing to see how far the sport has come. The modern high performance wings of today compared to what these guys were on. Respect!

i grew up in the 70s hanging out with tim and wendy and all the flyers from stanwell it was a honour to have him as my older brother

Just to complete that cast I'm pretty sure the girl seen passing something to Peter Brown is Greer from Tennessee. I could be wrong.

yeh man this is radical stuff, the beginning of anything is radical to tell you the truth, masters create a nice cushy road for the rest.

Hey guys, who knows the name of the singer/group that sings this song of U2 ??? Thanks!

It was the beautiful Wendy, Timmy's girlfriend.
