I also like to set my knights up to look towards their own king at the start of the game. When I move them I don't change their orientaition, so that I always know which knight started on the right and which started on the left side of the board
I’ve always used a memo technique that I invented myself to place the pieces when I was starting out. The technique involved placing the knights away from the King and Queen as for many people they’re 'dirty animals' and shouldn't be close to royalty. Since then, I haven't encountered any difficulties in placing the pieces. However, a few days ago, I found myself wondering where the knights should face. I searched everywhere but found no clear answer. Now I realize that the direction the knights face is a personal choice. Personally, I prefer the knights to face the King and Queen as it helps me remember where each knight started. I enjoy your videos; they are great to watch before sleep. ❤
The build up before the end game reminds me of a sort of hyper-aggressive, much less subtle version of Karpov’s smothering of Unzicker with how Kosalapov is basically stuck on his starting ranks for all but a few moves. Super video, as always
Whenever you do these historical games, I love to read up on the players before I watch the video. It’s crazy how much information we have available on a lot of these guys and how interesting and unique their chess careers and personal lives are
YOU’RE an O.G. UA-cam legend Mr. ASMRchess!!!! I’ve been watching your videos since the very beginning. Thanks for all the peace and relaxation you have brought me over the years!
hey bro! got some tips for your channel that may help to boost it a little. for your shorts, uncheck the box that says "notify subscribers about upload" when you upload the short. because of course no channel is going to have every single subscriber watch your video, not many people will click on the notification, and then the algorithm thinks "oh people aren't clicking on this guys videos so I won't recommend them to people", it's very annoying but it could help if you try this. thanks for making great content!
I've never been more happy with my timing for a mid-day nap. Love your content thoroughly! Chess isn't something I was even remotely interested in before I discovered your channel, now I can't get enough of your videos even though I don't play. Your thorough breakdowns and theory crafting experiments are absolutely phenomenal and it tells me you're a true craftsman in your chosen craft! 😁
A came across your channel recently and it reminded me of how much I used to love playing chess. I ended up joining a chess club and now use your videos as a way practice opening and learn more about chess. Your videos are so informational and relaxing. I love your passion for chess and it really inspires me to want to get more involved in the game.
Asmr chess I sometimes take out my chessboard and copy the moves you do and It helps me learn and the way you explain things is very easy for me to understand and the calm way you talk is very nice it helps me calm down and not get overwhelmed with all the moves and I love your videos Greetings from Finland 👋
I like to orient my knights with them facing inward or outward. Mostly because it’s easier to grip the heads with the thumb and index finger when they’re oriented like that.
I always place facing the center. The reason is that the tactics I have mastered is about taking control of the center, like the english or the queen's gumbit. It reminds me what to focus on. Great question from a great asmrtist.
I had always faced the knights forward before watching your videos but I immediately picked up on the knight orientation you’re using now. I think it’s great to keep track of where the knight came from but I also find it easier to grab swiftly and accurately if the flat is aligned parallel to ranks when playing my favorite time control: 3+2.
I always faced my knights forward because I learned to play chess from the lego chess video game (embarrassing, I know) and the knights in that game always faced forward on their horses
This game was enthralling. It only took the first couple of timid moves to have it all snowball to the stunning checkmate. Almost as stunning as the fact that I keep my knights facing forward every time I play chess.
It's nice to see that there is a new ASMR Chess video just in time before sleep :) I don't usually comment regularly but i want to answer your interesting question. I personally love to orientate the knights looking to each other, as if both of them were contemplaiting their majesties before the battle :)
I admit I never gave much thought to how knights should face. Also I like symmetry, parallels, etc. so it mildly pricks my aesthetic sense to have them facing different ways. Thus they are always aligned facing straight across the board at the opposing side. Like a charging line of cavalry.
Intuitively I always orient the knights towards my own king but at a slight forward angle. Makes them look more dynamic which also reflects the knights character
Great video I haven't even though about how to place the Knights before now! I have them just facing the battlefield always straight on. I don't know if its just me thinking this could be a nice little deco tactic that maybe overlooked by your opponent on the physical board.
I set the knights up so that they both look to the right from my perspective. I dont know why but as a right i just find it easier to pick them up that way and its the way they would be represented in a chess diagram. Maybe there also is an unconcious factor of writing from left to right. Thus the knights are looking forward in some way.
I orientate the knights to wards the king but I prefer when they are pointing away from each other during analysis on these videos so I can tell the different journeys each knight takes
Going to sleep at 01:12 am (Germany) with this amazing video. I watch you everytime and I realy mean EVERYTIME I'm going to sleep. Btw I have to stand up at 05:30 am for work lol... Yes I'm fine.
I follow your and I suppose John Ludwig Hammers advice and always orient my knights to point toward the enemy king! It also has the slight bonus of scaring brand new players a little by the hidden aggression behind it from a game they thought was so boring.
I never really considered how I face my knights, but now that I am, I want to always face them in the direction of the opposing king, but also never facing them backwards. No retreat
I like to set my knights similarly to you. However, I like to angle them towards the center, and they maintain that orientation throughout the game. I imagine them seeking the knight's greatest destiny of becoming an unopposed octopus knight.
Knights look forward if I’m going on the attack, or tracking my opponent’s king if I’m feeling extra spicy. The go towards the royals if I’m feeling defensive or away if I’m neutral. These are subjective to change if I’m tricking/ manipulating my opponent
I always point my knights at the opposing king as well. I don’t know why but I always have, guess it is declaring your intent. Giving respect to the enemy by having your attention fully on them
Another Nezhmetdinov game! When I first learned chess I was taught the knights face forward. I've tried facing them other directions, but it just doesn't feel right.
Please, I've been learning a lot with your videos about opennings and defenses. Could you do more like Ruy Lopez Openning, or Cicilian defense. I'm mexican and support you since 2 years ago.
Fab, great history, fun fun ending. Question: What is the point of grabbing the center when early in the game, pawn takes pawn or Knight takes pawn etc., the center explodes early in the game. Seems redundant. Is it just the way it is? Seems there should be a different way to control center. This is a v fun, interesting vid.TY
I play my knights facing the piece or area of the board they are attacking, unless that is behind them. I can’t turn them all the way round, it feels wrong to be facing its own army
I also like to set my knights up to look towards their own king at the start of the game. When I move them I don't change their orientaition, so that I always know which knight started on the right and which started on the left side of the board
2:30 pm - sorry boss, it's time to take a nap.

Greetings from Finland 👋
It's amazing how many chess legends there are.
Pawn checkmates always look so cheeky lol. Second only to smother checkmates.
Castles checkmate is better
@@benjamincrew8383 ooof that too.
Backward knight mate is pretty sweet
Under promotion checkmate or en passant checkmate
Ladder mate is the coolest imo
I like to orient my knights with them facing inward or outward. Mostly because it’s easier to grip the heads with the thumb and index finger when they’re oriented like that.
i love useing this for locking in when doing hw good vid
Very high quality, much love

Pretty new to chess, but you make it so entertaining to learn about. Love the storytelling
This is the best sleeping pill ever.... No side effects.

Pawn checkmates are probably my favorite, I love taking my openents King on a world tour on the board 🤣

Most excellent 👌 Just what I needed after a long day of work 😴

This game was awesome to watch ❤
24:41 i can hear bishop screaming "NIGERUNDAYOOO"
I never really considered how I face my knights, but now that I am, I want to always face them in the direction of the opposing king, but also never facing them backwards. No retreat
I love all ASMR Chess videos.
Awesome vid as always!! Can’t wait for some whispers 😍
Ohh I know what I’m listening to for bed in a few hours 😁

I think there's a small typo in the description: It's Kosolapov, not Kosalapov
Always a good day when you upload

I face my knights forward usually. It was interesting to hear about the different reasonings people have for their ways.
Hi, I love your channel. Can you please do a video on the English opening?
thank you for the lovely video!
He’s back! I’ve been missing!❤❤❤😁😁
Another banger video as usual. What an interesting game.
Hopefully the homeless guys still doing okay, amazing chess player, loved that video❤️
I like to set the knights on a slight angle, just because they are nicer to look at from my perspective at an angle..
I always point my knights at the opposing king as well. I don’t know why but I always have, guess it is declaring your intent. Giving respect to the enemy by having your attention fully on them
since i can’t decide which knight faces which direction, i just have them staring forward 😂 and it looks nice to me
Because of you I started facing my knights sideways-both looking at my king! :D
Great content as per usual!
I really need this rn🙏❤️
the moment we all wait for

Do you have experience with Queen side castle in Pirc opening?
As always, i don't even have to watch it to say: great content.
And now i'll watch it.😂
Thank you for bringing these classic battles to life…..good night…zzzzzzzzz
Love ur videos! Found a new opening against 1.d4 other than the Budapest Gambit that u r ready to share? Benoni maybe?
I always point my knights towards my opponent. That way they can keep an eye on him/her, just in case I blink and miss something.
I love your videos soooo much
Always top quality asmr but interesting chess!
great video!

Should use this to study
Thanks!
Small correction: kosOlapov
Since watching your videos i'm placing my knights just like you
I play my knights facing the piece or area of the board they are attacking, unless that is behind them. I can’t turn them all the way round, it feels wrong to be facing its own army
I am also one who points their knights toward the opposing king!
Whoa whoa whoa... did I hear an Eddie Izzard reference in there?! "I have invented a maneuver"
Yes from his skit about Dr. Heimlich… I didn’t think ANYONE would pick up on that! Well spotted!
I put the knights in a random orientation, true chaos.
BOYS WE SLEEEEEEPPINNN GOOD TONIGHT!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Never thought about facing my knights any particular way 🤔
Could you use your dgt chessboard in your vids too
I have no idea why but I am way more relaxed when I have white’s point of view in these videos
Can you make a london system video?
Thanks for new video❤❤
24:01 it’s beautiful
Woo catching this one early
I orientate my knights facing my own king for the reason you stated and because, well, that’s what you do
Yayayaya new ASMR Chess
my knights always face forward
I"ve never played chess on a real board-online only. Mb one day i will visit chess club or park or something
lol, this is great!
The knights should always face the enemy king to show the enemy who they will come after
34:57
I like to face the knights to the side, because I like to see the profile 😅
I orient my nights like whatever because I am too busy thinking about the game so I forget to orient themd
I just have every piece look at the promotion square.
