Considering how close it is to Australia I’m surprised I’ve never actually been to Fiji. Somewhere I’d love to visit, so thanks for the tip about the lounge Hugh.
Thanks for sharing this Stefan. I flew with Fiji Airways to the Us, back when they had 747's. Best commercial flight I've had. Aircraft and crew where amazing.... :)
@@StefanDrury flew it in 2012. Upstairs was economy too and we were lucky to get upstairs. Kids everywhere. The staff called it a flying daycare centre such were the number of families with young kids.
Unreal Stef thanks for the tip. I’d definitely fly to LA with the Bula people or even consider a few relaxing nights in Bula land to try their A350 out.
Thanks for watching Simon, yes I think the new aircraft will help encourage more visitors to Fiji from Australia. Especially with fares like those advertised currently.
What a great video Stef. The A350 is a beautiful aircraft and looks incredible in the Fiji Airways colours. Hopefully this works out well for them and they can get more aircraft to deploy on the MEL-NAN sector
Looking good Fiji Airways! Never been a fan of the "drop and flop" destination of Fiji, but l would definitely do it as a stopover on a long haul route. Thankyou so much for a peek at the gorgeous interior, and now lm so sorted on how to get my tray table out when l fly them😅😅
Thanks for subscribing Franklin, a warm welcome to the channel. I’m hoping to jump back on commercial flights again as soon as we can, so standby for more content like this. Cheers, stef
Yeah if you can book the A350 for that route it’ll be good to try it out. If you’re travelling economy look out for that Bula Space section, a bit more room and priority boarding.
Thanks Stef for another excellent video...some friends recently flew with what is now called Fiji Airlines and although they enjoyed the flights some of the delays in their trip were ...lets say awful ! They were stranded in LA for 2 days and left alone with no hotel etc as FA had a "problem" with the aircraft.OK it happens but with such a small fleet they could not get a return flight and were not compensated for the extra 2 days accommodation in LA! They may have some great fares but I would rather pay full price for a direct flight...even though I love Fiji !! Great stuff mate and you were missed at the Flight Sim gathering in the Gong!!
Yes that's a good point, it's a similar design to Finnair but surprisingly I think the design is simpler in the Fiji Airways version than Finnair. Both are fairly minimal though, it's a very nice cabin environment.
I was at SYD to see the arrival of the FJ A359 , I guess it was the following day you were there by the look of the weather . I think the livery is brilliant , almost as good as the BA examples , not that I’m biased you understand 😀, but it ain’t arf bad innit . Beautiful aeroplane and a great video to match . Cheers mate .
Stefan, that A350-900 is a beautiful plane and feels very open, no claustrophobia problems. Looks like a potential winner, of course that's going to depend on the FOOD..right? Cheers, Rik Spector Weren't the Fijians head hunters???? Yikes!
Thanks T9909, I appreciate the feedback. There will always be a mix of me flying, commercial aviation, travel, and tech content on this channel because that’s the content I like to make and share. So if you don’t want to watch a particular video, then perhaps may I suggest you just ignore it and wait for the next one. Thanks for commenting, stef
@@StefanDrury thanks for taking us along on the interior tour. The cabin is almost as snazzy as the livery. In those years in Plymouth, were you a Marjon student or at UoP? Loved it when the planes used to land at Plymouth Airport. I could hear them from my dormitory and did some spotting when studies permitted. Good times back then! 👋
You certainly have Stef. I remember seeing your subscriber graph at Wycombe Air Park in June. The trend seems to be continuing exponentially. And that’s great to see. Your vlogs are always entertaining. Keep it up!
Great plane! I have a question: maybe if you do a pilot vlog again... can you explain to this non pilot but aviation enthousiast: why do you always hear ATC on pilot vlogs, say what the altimeter number is? And why does the next controller have a new number again? And if they get on a certain altitude, you sometimes hear that the altimeter is set to standard?? What does al of this mean? Can’t the plane measure its own altitude from the ground???
Good question! Simply, the device that measures your height above the sea (known as altitude) is measuring atmospheric pressure. This changes as you get higher - in fact as you get higher, pressure decreases. Pressure also changes on the surface. In order to calibrate the altimeter and give the instrument a reference to measure the change in pressure, the controllers pass the altimeter setting which is put into the altimeter. As you move horizontally across the ground, the surface or sea level pressure setting changes and so it is passed to the pilot so that they can use the relevant pressure setting for the area they are flying in. Above a certain altitude, a standard pressure setting is used so that all aircraft above said altitude are using the same pressure setting. This means they are all separated vertically by the same distance. When using the standard pressure setting, the altitude is referred to as ’Flight Level’. The topic of altimetry is studied in the theory side of Pilot training and gets a little more complicated when considering the effects of temperature. Hope that helps.
JamesLEC thanks a lot! It starts to make a lot of sense now! I always was thinking in meters of feet of the ground as that number, and there was no logic to it! But if the number is a pressure number, I know now, why it is not a standard number on a flight chart.... it changes with the weather! Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It’ll be interesting to see what they choose. We should hear pretty soon, it’ll be interesting if they do go A350 considering their investments in the B787 so far.
Hugh Rothwell, I know most people use the hard ‘d’ sound and say “nan-di”, but Wikipedia disagrees. Regardless, there is definitely an ‘n’ sound after the ‘a’ sound, as you point out.
