+Holly Campbell Never re-heat a professionally made mouth guard. You run the risk of deforming the mouth guard which could potentially cause pain as well as affect the fit of the mouth guard.
i am a dentist from egypt and i need to buy this mouth guard material for my lab.. from where can i buy multicolor sheets via online shopping like these staff?
Just buy a sisu one if you want that custom fit and you can talk breathe and drink with it in for football hockey and boxing get 2.6 yer welcome for sum fact my doods
TTA Sage the boil and bite mouthguards form around your bite and protect your top teeth because your jaw absorbs most of the impact for yout bottom teeth. if you want full protection try a standard fitting mouth guard which doesnt go to your bite and fits most bites. with me i have braces on my top teeth so i cant do the boil and bite or it wont be as effective so im goint to get a standard facemask connecting mouthguard if i make my high school football team.
Nobody cares about how key everybody cares about football and basketball hockey does it count as a sport are you doing hitting each other dang it was stick
So you are charging an outrageous rate to use a vacuum former with some thermoplastic for a mold of a kid who is obviously still loosing and growing teeth? LOL What a racket you have my man. That kid is going to grow out of that mouth guard in 6 months and the parents will have to plunk down another Porsche payment to you to make a new one!!
Matt Battaglia Do yourself a favour and do some research before you make ridiculous comments like that. Do you know how much I charge parents for these mouth guards? Look back through the comments. $35. Even if I charged the full price listed in our fee guide a trip to the dentist once to repair a broken tooth so your child isn't in agony would be at least double the cost of the mouth guard. And not to mention they protect against concussions. Your child's wellbeing is worth a little more than $35.
I think I didn't make my point clear enough. The price listed (if you can ever find a dentist honest enough to list their price online) is usually around $100 for custom mouth guards. If you are only charging $35 each for casting impression and mouth guards, then that's better than others I've seen. Now if I was an adult a permanent mouth guard would totally make sense. However the point I was trying to make is that this kid's mouth is still changing and two $35 mouth guards every 6 months is still more expensive than I would be willing to pay. If you consider that boil and bite guards only cost $5-$10 and I have yet to find any studies that show that a hard thermoplastic mouth guard made by a dentist is significantly safer than a soft rubber boil and bite mouth guard. The few articles I did find were sponsored by mouth guard companies or dentists offering their services for a nominal fee. I found your UA-cam video because I was doing research on this very subject. As a kid I used boil and bite guards and there were many times I got hit in the lip and the soft rubber didn't split my lip, so imagine my confusion when I see that these custom guards are hard plastic. Furthermore I remember on several occasions when one of my teammates forgot his mouth guard and a readily available boil and bite not only kept him safe but allowed him to play in the game. Why are the bottom teeth not also in the impression? it seems like locking the upper and lower jaws in place could prevent some jaw injuries? Wouldn't biting down on a flat plastic surface dull your lower teeth similarly to grinding your teeth? The point you laud about keeping the wearer from getting a concussion is just as valid for boil and bite mouth guards.
Matt Battaglia Sports mouth guards are not made of hard plastic. They are pliable and rubbery. And why would you need to buy two mouth guards every six months? The majority of children can wear their custom made mouth guard for an entire hockey season. Custom made mouth guards fit better and feel more comfortable. This leads to a higher rate of use by the wearer. This in turn leads to less accidents. Do boil and bite mouth guards work? Yes. Are they less expensive? Yes. Are they as comfortable as a custom made mouth guard? No. Do they fit as well? No. You might as well argue that a Dr Scholl's $15 orthotic insert is going to be just as good as a $200+ custom made orthotic. Please don't confuse your Google search with my license to practice.
We are located in Windsor, Ontario. The cost can vary depending on whether you have it made during our mouth guard clinic at the beginning of hockey season or not. During our mouth guard clinic the cost is $35. I loose money at this price but provide this as a service to my local community. Outside of the mouth guard clinic the cost for a mouth guard is $108. Our mouth guard clinic is held only at the Harrow arena once per year.
sporting and gaming Are professionally made custom fitted mouth guards better in comparison to the "boil and bite" type, most definitely. Are you going to pay more for a professionally made product vs. one you buy over the counter, most definitely. My one question to you would be: If you lost a tooth or if you had a concussion which affected you for months afterwards, how much would that professionally made mouth guard be worth then? The cost for replacing a natural tooth can definitely be $3,000+. If you miss a week, a month, two months of work due to a concussion how much did that cost you? If $250-300 is the price in your area that is most unfortunate. That price is grossly inflated in comparison to what it would cost you where I'm from. I hold a annual mouth guard clinic for kids in minor hockey each year and charge $35 for these mouth guards. During this clinic anyone is welcomed to have a professionally made mouth guard made for that price.
I think there both going to do the same thing because I play AFL and people are going to get conclusions regardless of what kind of mouth guard you have
sporting and gaming Concussions happen for more than one reason and not just from the force of your lower teeth hitting up against your upper teeth. Mouth guards will not stop concussions from happening but they do help to prevent them for their intended purpose. I desperately hope that the standard of care for mouth protection for the AFL is more than a boil and bite mouth guard. I hope you found our video on how a mouth guard is made interesting and wish you much happiness in your sporting career.
It's not molded on the bottom though, that'd be so uncomfortable
It really isn't. Once you get use to it you don't even notice it.
+Holly Campbell hey once u have put it in your mouth can u reshape it after u have used it
+lucy skellon Technically you probably can with the one I have. You have to heat it up really good, but in theory you can.
+Holly Campbell thanks

Just buy a sisu one if you want that custom fit and you can talk breathe and drink with it in for football hockey and boxing get 2.6 yer welcome for sum fact my doods
what if you have a under bite? or should i just do the same thing?

Ya but we're I'm from these kinds are $250-$300 AU and the the most expensive "boil and bite" is around $20 AU
