Souji is from "King of Fighters: Kyo," a Japan-only game on the original Playstation. It was sort of a "visual novel" game, where it's mostly story with a few fights that were done rpg-style. It used lots of sprites from either KoF97, plus had 4 original characters. Hopefully the story was good, because the gameplay looked terrible, although the anime cutscene supermoves were nice.
