I was trained on the 747 at Boeing in late 1975/Spring of 76. There were no Appendix H simulators in those days, requiring some of the training and final check ride to be flown on an actual aircraft. Back on the ground at Boeing Field, the Check Airman and the resident FAA DPE congratulated me on the successful completion of my ride, but informed me that I had to jump out of the hatch in order to receive the Type Rating. Although we were trained on those devices, no one had told me about this crazy twist. Having been terrified of heights all my life, I almost had a heart attack! When they realized the "prank" may have gone too far, they all laughed and told me this was a joke they would often pull on young and gullible idiots like me, and handed me the certificate! 😏
as secondary and if stairs are jammed or in case of hijack, they should be the manager of an evacuation not the leader of those who left the stage first
It's a bit surprising they have filmed this without any safety measures in the ground. Panic at the hatch and slide down without holding the handle well enough? That's quite a high drop on the asphalt.
That's what I was thinking. For a training/video, should have large pads at the bottom. If their fingers slip or they let go by accident, that's a 50 ft fall.
I have poked my head out of the hatch .and the ground seems a long way down .I could not do this .far too terrifying.old capt tubby would not stand a chance.only for the younger flexible crews .
There are a couple of pilots whi will have a difficult time getting up to that opening, much less out of it and able to hold their own body weight for the duration of that ride down. 😬

Did they say “for jumbo sakes you’re a pilot. You afraid of heights?” Lol good old times
I would happily pay to give this a go
Good to know how a pilot can escape the plane in the event of an emergency.

So glad LH is still flying the 744s for a little longer
Cool. I need such a escape thing as fire escape from my apartment!!!
Ok I didn’t know this hell ya system existed. The pilots should practice this while people are boarding 🤘😎🤘LOL
Once extended, the reels have to be replaced. They aren't reusable
This is so cool! I just got my hands on one of these and it’s really cool to see how they work
Gotta get fit, pilots. At least one normal pull up must be demonstrated in order to pass this medical exam.
Pilot training video? It’s very awesome to see!
This is like some James Bond’s stuff, they know the pilot isn’t going to survive after the window blows out in his face lol

I hope they didn't scratch the paint too much.
In the last sequences, you can see, they put on a plastic foil on the side of the aircraft.
with my dexterity i would just lose my grip and die
WOW

They didn’t mention not doing this in flight.

I really need to go to bed
is that what that little window was? the more you know
Scary!

This is the last choice they had....if needed....
How-
Freaking awesome. How high is that from the ground?
Somewhere around 15 meters
The Guy :Is this safe?
Cameraman: They told three out of four has survived.
Useful when you're just about to hit a mountain.
If too hard their legs may break :O
thats true my friend but thats better than losing your life yeah ?:)
Just don’t lose your grip
man thats gotta hurt their hands
Half the pilots I know would never survive this ☠️
