First video I took once I got to sunset beach. First non Computer/FS video. Boeing 757 I think. Filmed with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX36.
I am a 747-400/-8i Captain and my father was a 747-200 Captain, which I also flew as a first officer. My father’s best friend used to be the senior training captain on 747-200 back in the 80s, early 90s. He insisted on trying out the hatch and the reels for himself, which brought up some advice, which to this day I pass on to anyone on the cockpit jump seat. Firstly, the reels will only start dampening what feels like a free fall on the last few meters. So the initial natural reaction could be: “S***! This isn’t working - I’ll better let go of the reel in order to brace myself!” Don’t! Secondly, those reel metal tapes have razor sharp edges. So if you can, you should really try getting them out of the way for the next guy.
@Boeing747-8i great anecdote. Yes we were always taught not to break your fall, but I wasn't aware that the dampening only really took place in the last few meters! Spooky.
This is internet at its best. When I read your reply on YT, the KLM 747-300 cockpit reels vid was being recommended. In this, there is Lufti-footage of the 747-200 and the exact event I wrote about. My father’s friend is the second from left on the ground. Unfortunately, he died a few years back, but I can show it to my father.Thank you so much.
@@Boeing747-8i my regards to both you and your father, and most importantly, long live the Queen of the Skies. ✈️
I wonder if anyone has just falled out of the hatch while practicing 😬
Someone would have to shove me out.
Came to see how the pilots escaped in the highjacking of Pan Am Flight 73 🫡
Don't worry they are just like dots on clouds. Looks huge on ground.
2:56 이거 너무 위험한거 아닌가
2:27 Epic music kicks in. 😐
i have sat on the top in luthtansa, great experience.
I lost it when the guy faceplanted on the ground xD
They didn’t mention not doing this in flight.
How scary for the pilots !! How on earth the plane landed safely I don’t know??at least everyone was ok
I have poked my head out of the hatch .and the ground seems a long way down .I could not do this .far too terrifying.old capt tubby would not stand a chance.only for the younger flexible crews .
this is so scary i whould never do this
@2:59, dude got launched lol
😂
Poor guy.
Lol
My ass would be well done cooked by the time I get to the bottom..
Yikes - Upper deck doors have a few downsides!
I came after neerja
miss these episodes - no longer online
Freaking awesome. How high is that from the ground?
Somewhere around 15 meters
I was trained on the 747 at Boeing in late 1975/Spring of 76. There were no Appendix H simulators in those days, requiring some of the training and final check ride to be flown on an actual aircraft. Back on the ground at Boeing Field, the Check Airman and the resident FAA DPE congratulated me on the successful completion of my ride, but informed me that I had to jump out of the hatch in order to receive the Type Rating. Although we were trained on those devices, no one had told me about this crazy twist. Having been terrified of heights all my life, I almost had a heart attack! When they realized the "prank" may have gone too far, they all laughed and told me this was a joke they would often pull on young and gullible idiots like me, and handed me the certificate! 😏
Did they say “for jumbo sakes you’re a pilot. You afraid of heights?” Lol good old times
"Terrified of heights", FL 380, no problem.
@@jameswest8280 , True, inside the aircraft at any altitude, was not a problem!
Poor elderly will leave the plane with completely broken bones
Better broken bones than die in a fire. Remember, this is only the last resort in an emergency.
Very unformative, untill she pushes her pax on the slide with a smile, while they are catapulted on the tarmac with incredible speed 🤣
The Guy :Is this safe? Cameraman: They told three out of four has survived.
This is so cool! I just got my hands on one of these and it’s really cool to see how they work
I really need to go to bed
is that what that little window was? the more you know
So glad LH is still flying the 744s for a little longer
Love these training videos
Half the pilots I know would never survive this ☠️
This is like some James Bond’s stuff, they know the pilot isn’t going to survive after the window blows out in his face lol
Just don’t lose your grip
2:56 😲😲😲
Positions for take-off!
That’s Ryanair
goofy ahh bounce
This is really interesting, thanks for posting! Would you happen to have the full video that this is from (or know where to find it)? ^_^
It's a bit surprising they have filmed this without any safety measures in the ground. Panic at the hatch and slide down without holding the handle well enough? That's quite a high drop on the asphalt.
That's what I was thinking. For a training/video, should have large pads at the bottom. If their fingers slip or they let go by accident, that's a 50 ft fall.
I have gotten a comment on this video which does not show up here --- and when I click on it in my notifications, it simply disappears as though into thin air. That phantom comment reads as follows: "This was the first time they had known of, heard of, or experienced such an issue. This video on volcanic ash training is now included as a result of what this flight and crew experienced in...", and it ends right there.
Coolhand .
I would happily pay to give this a go
with my dexterity i would just lose my grip and die
30:58: Pilots not listening, eh? Maybe ash dynamics should be a mandatory part of an airline captain's flight training, and then hold pilots responsible for being careless with ash just as much as holding them responsible for anything else that can disrupt airplanes and kill passengers..
Gotta get fit, pilots. At least one normal pull up must be demonstrated in order to pass this medical exam.
Useful when you're just about to hit a mountain.
If too hard their legs may break :O
thats true my friend but thats better than losing your life yeah ?:)
Cool. I need such a escape thing as fire escape from my apartment!!!
There are a couple of pilots whi will have a difficult time getting up to that opening, much less out of it and able to hold their own body weight for the duration of that ride down. 😬
Pilot training video? It’s very awesome to see!
man thats gotta hurt their hands
よくできてますねー
This is the last choice they had....if needed....
Good to know how a pilot can escape the plane in the event of an emergency.
as secondary and if stairs are jammed or in case of hijack, they should be the manager of an evacuation not the leader of those who left the stage first
This is a great find.
