It's great to see him so happy. His career was def damaged by the way the press & others responded to his music in the 70's & 80's. He was far ahead of his time & he paid the price.
Very true! It is also sad that his career was hurt because his unknown-at-the-time aspergers could cause him to come across as egotistical in interviews and he got a bit of a reputation for that. It is all the more sad when you realize it was out of his control and he was trying his best to connect with the interviewers. But at least he has settled into an extremely loyal fanbase now who truly enjoys his music and respects him.
We in the early/mid 80's thought that we were also far ahead of the time in the german new synth wave scene. And now i realized that Garys/tubeway armys ideas and sound is the mothership of everything we were and we're still listening. It's almost impossible to express my admiration in words. What a bombastic kind of industrial version at this gig.
This song blew me away when I first heard it.I love the synthesizers and his haunting disconnected voice that is still able to generate emotional feelings while listening to his music.
You know what I feel quite left out myself I cant say I'm a fan from years ago I used to like him years ago but got interested in other musicians simon Le bon david bowie to name a few but these days I dont have david anymore he sadly passed away so In actual fact i became Gary numans fan during the very first lockdown I saw the music video intruder recognised it was Gary numan and that was it I fell in love with him
I'm 17 years old, not much of a goth/electric fan but Gazza is awesome, went to his concert at the Hammersmith Apollo and it was my first gig I went to and I loved every minute of it such an amazing night out
This version is amazing! Actually, I had to rewatch it for several times to make sure that it's live. He is in a great shape, hopefully he tours in 2014 as well, I really want to see him live ( and closer to my hometown)
From what I have seen, they have great mic volume on him at his live shows. Not surprising since he is one of those incredibly technical singers so his voice carriers a performance.
He's so upbeat, and upfront in this version- much better than some of the other live videos I've seen of this song... this is more alive, raw, and honest- Love ya, Gary!
GREAT vidi!! I really enjoy how Gary Numan arranges his music from prior efforts. It's always different. Always evolving. Always a classic. He's got a great sound now and hearing this song with the "jagged" feel makes me remember just how much I enjoy his work both past and present.
The NIN Vegas performance brought me to you and my life is forever changed! I am totally obsessed, watching and listening to anything I can find on the interweb to make up for the last 40 years that I missed. I am proud to say that I am a Numanoid! Trying to figure out a way to catch you on tour in the US but for now this will do. Thank you for posting!
NIN has always been great and introducing people to different music. I knew of Gary Numan long before he played with NIN, but I remember catching NIN live and watching their support act, Ladytron, and then getting massively into that band afterwards.
I am so ready to travel from Norway to Hammersmith Apollo 28. th of november 2014 and find my place in front of the stage to experience my first Gary Numan concert. I suppose it will be just great!!!!
The dude is like fine wine, get's better with age. Version is as good as ever! And I agree with comment by Teo Vela that he is in great shape. Definitely hasn't gone to seed for sure. Great effort! Now I see this vid was around 2003 so that's going on 15 years ago...would be interesting to catch another vid say only a few years ago, will do search here on U-Toob, but if anyone can help with a URL that would be wonderful.
I hated this song when growing up as it was not Metal/Rock but 30 odd years on I appreciate it as great Music ( the Industrial guitars sound cool) Gary's wig is also fantastic
The Godfather of electronica!
🥰👍🥰👍🙏🏼🙏🏼

One of the best comments i have ever seen on a music video on youtube. Unfortunately that is a true fact too.

When I first heard the opening riff of this song in 1979 it ABSOLUTELY blew my head off!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🌹
It changed my life, and my music.
🌟
Mine too. And this is a great version.
My friend asked me a few weeks ago what songs really blew me away when I was growing up. Yup Are friends Electric. Still sounds awesome
Same. I was 15.
The intro still gives me chills even now
this is how a live performance should be - damn this is awesome!!!

I bought the Pleasure Principle as a child. Gary's been a part of my life as long as I can remember
Landmark album. Criminally underrated.
I saw him in Pittsburgh last year at the Thunderbird. He looks like he's 35. Same heavy vibe on every song, but he didn't play this one.
I saw him in St Petes Sunday March 24th, i have waited over 40 years to see him, he was amazing. Thx Gary, you are the best !!!!!!!
One of the best things to come out of the 80s
This song blew me away when I first heard it.I love the synthesizers and his haunting disconnected voice that is still able to generate emotional feelings while listening to his music.
Sooooo true.
I graduated high school in 82 yet I just heard this song for the first time last week. Thats life in Mississippi for you
Mississippi is fine. This is a deep track from a very unappreciated singer. This is why you missed it
Keep searching bud !! The tube army is outhere
The technology has improved. The sound is much richer.
Gary ❤️ what to say, I have no words. He is a milestone, this is STYLE !
Very very fabulous Gary
You know what I feel quite left out myself I cant say I'm a fan from years ago I used to like him years ago but got interested in other musicians simon Le bon david bowie to name a few but these days I dont have david anymore he sadly passed away so In actual fact i became Gary numans fan during the very first lockdown I saw the music video intruder recognised it was Gary numan and that was it I fell in love with him
I love how this song, and others of his, have lasted the test of time, and are even reinterpreted. Gary is a legend.
Way ahead of his time amazing and magical I love this song!
Numanoid!
I'm 17 years old, not much of a goth/electric fan but Gazza is awesome, went to his concert at the Hammersmith Apollo and it was my first gig I went to and I loved every minute of it such an amazing night out
GeorgeL360 - Are you going to be going to anymore ?? we were at Hammersmith also. we have tickets to Manchester later this year
I would go every evening he performed if it were possible
he is the reason i bought a moog in HS back in 82-83 and taught myself to play keyboard.

@@MrMpvincent69 I was there too!

Dare I say, better than the original. Love it.

The Numan who made electronic music popular in age that it wasn't .Yes I've seen him live.

I Love this version! Still showing respect for an amazing (breakthrough) song ! Loved it since 79! dx

Nu Man! So strong and present! Brings me back and it's so fucking good
In Mexico ... this is how Are Friends Electric sounds the perfect tone of the industrial
Gary Numan; the futurist . . . and we are the futurists.
This is an amazing performance, both aurally and visually.. So much power and happiness
So much emotion in Gary's voice, it's epic in the truest sense.
This song is still awesome!
