    It's in the name, TRT: Testosterone REPLACEMENT Therapy. If your natural hormonal profile is within normal physiological ranges, then do NOT use the tried-and-true methods of diminishing your hormones temporarily for the blood test to trick the physician into prescribing you HRT. If you used PEDs to crush your levels, then it is more complicated. One shouldn't be abusing PEDs in the first place! If you are deficient, there are many interventions and lifestyle solutions that should be used as the first/best practice treatment option (sleep properly, exercise properly, eat properly, reduce stress, etc.)

    I don't think i've ever had the thought of doing steroids and wouldn't even do creatine tbh.
    I wanna know that i got my gains from eating good food, sleeping 9 hrs a night and training my ass off. Gyms have been closed for 2 months and I still have most of my gains even though my workouts aren't ideal. Natural muscle will always last longer than if you blast drugs. When you're old and can play with your kids or grandkids because you didn't die from a heart attack at 60 from long term steroid use you will be thankful.
    I was so depressed at 15-16 doing these awful home workouts with a pair of dumbbells at like 5 am and just suffering day in and day out but as I got older I saw results and my whole view on life changed. Just keep pushing, life isn't going to get easier but you will get stronger, much much stronger than you could ever imagine.

    • @daddy3484
      @daddy3484 3 роки тому +4

      You do realize in utero exposure to test from the mom pretty much dictates how functional your balls will be right?
      This whole MuH AnCesTorS logic is boomer thought. If you have time to sleep 9 hrs a night and eat 5 square meals like a prize hound, them by all means.
      Here in the states you gotta grind to make it. 5-6 hrs of sleep.

    • @GVS
      @GVS 3 роки тому +18

      @@daddy3484 if you can only grind with 5-6 hours of sleep, you're doing it wrong. Optimize your time efficiency maybe...you're stepping over dollars to pick up dimes if you're cutting your sleep to "wOrK hArDeR". Ok this is a terrible argument Geoff, and I don't even disagree with NH's stance on TRT. I have an auto-immune disease which attacks my thyroid, without treatment I'm miserable. My ancestors most likely didn't have this, or the other health issues I have, but none of that matters: the fact is I need synthetic hormones (levothyroxine) and a controlled weight/diet to treat that. Do you honestly think that a disorder which affected a different part of the endocrine system would be any different? If someone's balls don't work, do you think it's fair to go "tough luck dipshit?".
      On that note, people in my SO's family seem to have a history of circulatory issues and dying early, should they not seek treatment to have normal lives, just because their ancestors managed to reproduce successfully?

    My opinion is that even the older and middle aged men who take T are having a sort of mid life crisis. I believe nature designed us as men to age this way so that when we're older we can use our wisdom and experience to solve problems rather than aggression and risk taking. We just don't have the same needs at 50 as we do at 20.

    • @Kaledrone
      @Kaledrone 2 роки тому +1

      No, nature designed us in a "use it or lose it" manner. If you live like the average American does (the people on whom the 1% test drop with age studies are based on) then of course your hormones are going to keep declining with age. Most people simply get weaker and have shittier quality of life with age due to living a sedentary lifestyle and not taking care of themselves properly diet wise and lifestyle wise. Look at most mammals in the wild, like Lions for example, as long as they aren't starving or don't have injuries such as broken bones they can put up a great fight even into old age. The truth is if people kept up their training consistently, lead a modest lifestyle with no shitty habits like alcohol, drugs, smoking and such, ate right so they don't get any nutrient deficiencies then they can remain strong well into old age. Sure, they won't win the Olympics, but so won't most young people.

    I agree that TRT has become way too accepted and is really just an excuse for guys to hop on steroids and claim its medicine. Most of these guys are running 150-200mg per week and claim its a low dose, but in reality that is more test than any natural man would produce. Not only is it higher but the way that it enters and affects the body is VERY different. Natural testosterone is produced in small surges throughout the day. When you inject testosterone you are getting a massive spike and it slowly trickles down until your next shot. This results in constantly elevated test levels which is why you see guys making crazy transformations on TRT. But as you said it also results in a lot of health problems. Not worth it at all.

    I really appreciate this perspective and your channel. I wasnt under the delusion that i had bad genetics or something was "wrong" with me other than my lifestyle. Ive never been into video games, and always mountain biked and done other sports and have had a very physical day job for the last 10yrs and have always maintained a fairly lean/muscular physique (by non body builder standards haha) as a result, no matter what i ate or did. But now 10yrs of smoking, alcohol, drugs, hella big macs and sleeping like 4hrs a day is starting to catch up to me and i can feel my energy and "fire" staring to fade. And i find your perspective very inspirational to finally get my shit together and be better than ive ever been before. Keep it up man! I think you have the right attitude, ive used it in the past to get through hardships in life, even if you start at zero its amazing what you can achieve "working hard for what you want". And theres no reason i shouldnt apply that to improving myself physically especially cause im pretty sure i dont even have to start at zero for once haha. Keep it up man, its no coincidence you got to where you are now physically and i assume in life aswell

      @@northpaul3276 my newest video that has me in it is about 2 years old, and was around the end of my first year of training when I was still very much a newbie. and the strict dieting working with my nutritionist only in the last year. As of today, while still a bit overweight for my taste, I'm far from obese, but due to my current 230ng/dl total test level that was confirmed multiple times with very little variation I'm facing several health complications. Particularly in the mental health area. Will it increase my gains to bring myself up to a healthy testosterone level? Yes, but only because I'm already putting in the work. Is that my reason for considering it? No. Not even close. My main reason is because of the multiple mental and physical issues having such a low level causes. Do I think it's genetics? No. If anything, in the US particularly there are many environmental factors that are crushing test levels across the population, and several are completely unavoidable like high levels of ethinyl estradiol in water supplies and artificial hormones and harmful chemical pesticides in even what would be considered healthy foods like fresh vegetables and meats. Even foods marketed as organic have been proven multiple times to essentially be false advertising. Western consumerism has ruined the health of an entire population within 2 generations, really since about the 60's to be the most accurate when chemical hormone modulators in the form of chemical birth control became commercially available to the general public.

    Very interesting. Thanks for the video. I'm 45 years old, low T, a couple of months ago under the range (in my laboratory test, the minimum is 4,5 ng/cl, the max is 45 , I had 3,8), and today I have 9,8. I started training 6 years ago, but seriously only almost 2 years, and seriously I mean: following a diet, training with a program 4/5 times per week (sometimes, if I'm in the mood even 6 times per week, I have a small home gym with almost all machinery). My coach is also an endocrinologist, almost my age, and he is in TRT, and in his opinion, I need a TRT too because my T level will always stay in the low range. I didn't suffer any low T symptoms, but only a month ago, I started to have chronic anxiety, lower libido, mental fog and (annoying) difficulty focusing. It is hard to say if it came from my stressful work (but today is less stressful than years ago, maybe it is accumulated stress) or due to low T. I do not have enough muscle, my body fat is around 10/12%, I'm 1,76 and 74kg. Thanks to this video, I chose to not do any TRT for the moment, and try to improve my environment before taking this decision.

I understood that the idea to go on TRT terrified me (not a needle fear, but the idea to be addicted to a drug for my entire life and to disable and atrophy a part of my body). Now I'm a lot better, my T still in the lower range (around 400) but I don't suffer any side affects. Actually I'm at 16% body fat, I want to go under this to loss a line of stubborn fat on my belly before to go up again. I eat a lot of eggs every week and will add a little butter. It's the latter. Low test is a symptom of a shitty lifestyle, not the cause of it.
      I would recommend watching this: ua-cam.com/video/NqQGEU_3fUI/v-deo.html
      And then you can dive deeper and do your own research as well if you are interested.
      After looking at studies from both sides and doing my own research my conclusion has been that in the general population testosterone does seem to decline, but it's again a matter of use it or lose it, just like with muscle mass. Most older people lose all their muscle and become frail simply due to inactivity, if you are not going to use it you are going to lose it. If your body doesn't think you need high muscle mass or high hormones to survive, it will down regulate them. It's the same with testosterone, just like Geoffrey says, that 1% drop after 30 is based on average people, and average people are sedentary, have shitty diets and don't optimize their lifestyle. That "Inevitable Testosterone Decline" dogma is just a product of bad epidemiology. Again, what usually happens with most people at 30? They get married, get kids, mortgage, increased stress in life due to these factors and work, people stop playing sports or working out as much as they used to, and overall most people just simply have less time for themselves once they hit that age, all of these combined together destine you towards a test drop. People act like something magically happens at 30 and all your leydig cells die off, it is so stupid. I don't subscribe to the idea that you can't have better hormones later in life than in your 20's, it's just not true. And as Geoffrey mentions he has older clients who don't need any needles, you should never need to rely on TRT to function properly even into old age if you actually properly took care of yourself throughout your youth.
      Although, the age related testosterone decline being inevitable is bollocks, what is true is that generationally testosterone levels have been declining a lot throughout the last century or so due to a lot of environmental factors such as endocrine disruptors, BPA, plastics and what not, it's a very deep rabbit hole and would take a lot of explaining. The Industrial Revolution also down regulated manual labor a lot and jobs became a lot more sedentary, it also shifted a lot of jobs indoors from outdoors so people get less sunlight, and less sunlight means less Vitamin D, which is critical for testosterone production. But I don't want to get into all of that and make this comment longer than it already is, my main point for writing this last paragraph is the fact since testosterone has drastically declined generationally and men these days on average have much lower test levels than our ancestors, it's a LOT easier than it has ever been in history to have clinically low test levels. And having low test levels also robs you off your motivation and will to do anything, so I am not surprised that most people with low T seem to develop a victim mentality and blame things out of their control. So combined with the fact that having low test is much easier these days and that low test also robs you off your motivation to do anything hard or anything to improve yourself, it's not surprising that the TRT industry has boomed and the sales are rising. People would rather take the easy way of injecting a needle rather than do all the work.

  • @kimborampage
    @kimborampage 3 роки тому +7

    Also I think the decrease of test production with age is over hyped. I don’t think it decreases as much as people think it should. Older people usually live lifestyles that are poorer for health. Healthy older people should not have T levels that are so bad if they’re living healthy lifestyles. Cardiovascular disease/plaque can block the tiny blood vessels in the gonads. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death on earth so it’s probably very common for men’s hormone production to be compromised.

    • @Kaledrone
      @Kaledrone 2 роки тому +3

      It's over hyped because these youth/anti aging clinics popping up all over America need their cold hard cash, so they keep spreading this bro science of your testes becoming completely non functional once you hit 40 or so like it's the gospel, and since most people just repeat what they hear other's say instead of researching themselves this myth keeps spreading like a wildfire to the point that now everybody and their grandmother believes it. You will see many popular influencers also peddle this idea, none of them can't seem to believe anybody can be in good shape after 40, "life is done at 40".
      Basically you are right, and there are actual studies that prove you right: ua-cam.com/video/NqQGEU_3fUI/v-deo.html
      (I would like to link the actual studies instead of youtube videos talking about the studies but youtube is unfortunately tyrannical and deletes my comments if I link anything besides another youtube video).

    Environment is an important and overlooked factor when it comes to hormonal levels. I'm not qualified to talk about genetics or biology so don't ask me for some peer-reviewed papers, lol. But let's pretend you have the genetic potential to be in the top 1% of physique and athleticism...you won't ever reach that potential if you sit on your ass doing nothing. Genetic potential is just that, potential, you need to reach it by putting in the work.
    Unfortunately, environment isn't something you can control when you're young. In my case, I was lucky in that my parents encouraged physical activity and the kids I hung out with were into sports. Now, I'm not a big sports guy, but I still played with the other kids because it was still fun to run and jump..unfortunately I wasn't athletic, lol, but being unathletic and playing sports is better than being a top tier athlete and doing nothing. And when I was a kid, boys getting into fights wasn't frowned upon, I even got into a few myself. Not saying I'm some badass, I'm certainly not (I don't react well to getting hit), nor am I encouraging anyone to get into fights; but when you're in that kind of environment your body will adapt.
    In my teens I got into skateboarding, and while I'm not going to say that's some high-T activity, it's still physical activity so I'm sure at the very least it didn't hinder my hormonal profile. In my 20s I got into martial arts (judo, bjj, and mma), which I'm sure also helped with my hormonal profile. In terms of diet, while I did eat junk food, I also ate home cooked meals every day which I'm sure helped.
    My only regrets were not getting into weightlifting during my teens or even 20s (I'm the one who made a comment in another video about working out at a later age, asking if it will be an uphill battle), and not getting enough sleep. I was too intimidated to step into a gym, and in regards to sleep I thought I was some genetic anomaly who could survive on little sleep for years. I touched dumbbells every now and then and tried calisthenics, so maybe that did something with my hormonal profile?
    I'm in my mid-30s now, and one thing I notice is I still have high levels of energy. While I still feel physically tired after a workout, mentally I can go a million miles an hour. I think one of the reasons why I'm fortunate enough to still have energy, while others my age, even some who are younger, feel lethargic, is because of the environment in my teens and 20s. While I can't undo the past, but at least I know my hormonal profile is most likely fine, and probably better than some younger guys because of the environment I was in.

    There are a lot of missing key factors in this video. I agree Teens and young adults do not need this. But there are cases where some people really do need to replace their levels. Whether they are primary or secondary hypogonadal for whatever the cause. Injury to the petuitory gland, Damage from drug or substance abuse in your early years, or like myself I'm a Gym rat - 5-6days a week. always been Natty but after Covid hit me which I thought I was gonna be a little more bulletproof considering my fitness health got hit bad. Took its toll almost 2 years of hell that I can't explain called long haulers. I didn't want to jump on trt but that man made sickness crushed my endo system. Legitimately prescribed TRT and it did wonders .. I'm 36yrs old .. pinning does get old but what it has done for me overall is not a regret. Yes there is some good points here mainly for the youngsters. But remember nothing is a magic pill or fix .. do your due diligence prior to ever taking anything exogenous. On the other hand you do what gives you better quality of life. Be smart. Do it right. It is possible to recover and bounce back after TRT if need be. There is more studies now days or more experiences to bouncing back.. you will need a protocol to come off to help jump start your Nat T again and timing can be months depending on how long you were on. Your recovery Levels will most likely bounce back, but they will be where you were when you started. Some people come back better if they did everything right while on TRT and lived the healthier lifestyle. It's not for everyone and should never be considered lightly

    @Natural Hypertrophy -- only recently began watching your stuff. You've got a lot of good stuff to say, though it was this video in particular that made me realize that what I'd seen as your "ageism" -- or just general negativity regarding an older/Gen-x-or-older male stereotype which I myself rarely see in the gym -- is not really that. It is that you're quite aware of whom your audience is (males 40 years of age with minimal-to-low-intermediate lifting experience. . . but, for the reality of whom 90%+ of your audience actually is, the delivery is spot on: "your body is perfectly capable of being anabolic; you've failed your body, not the other way around".
    There's been rounds of youtube videos out there justifying at least "occasional & with-reason" PED use amongst both gen-pop and athletic younger-than-middle-aged populations. I think that your piece here gave those opinions a good slap in the face. One can put forth the "but I have a medical condition" or "but everyone else in my gym/with whom I'm competing/whatever is using" arguments, but these beg the question that you at least implicitly put forth here: have you truly committed yourself to the type of training and lifestyle for a period that could allow you to fully realize your own natural capabilities? Ingesting PEDs is not taking some fucking personal responsibility.

An argument could be made for advanced lifters with 10+ years of training, professional bodybuilders, and maybe some fitness models who base their careers on their physiques. Yes, the last one can be debated but I do think that if you're literally making a living off your body, then it is justified to an extent
