In this video you can see my basic setup and process for Heat treating my blades. This process is very similar between all air hardening steels.
Not shown is the tempering process which takes several more hours.
Here is a link to the vises and some other tools I Use in this video.

Here’s a few questions as a new maker.
I’m grinding chisel grinds, tbe knife warps. That’s new to me. Post heat treat and temper. I’m able to bend it back but… yeesh that doesn’t seem right. I’ve seen it with carter blades and San mai. I’m assuming it’s because I did aebl without toolwrap and the decarb is making that San mai effect? If so, cool, if so chisel grind isn’t the way😂
Question 2, do you use a 400 or 1000 temper? I have some z wear I’m waiting to temper.
Question 3, have you experimented with high temperature application of finishes on knives? I just got a beautiful purple orange on m2 with 1000f

Very close to Hartsfiel's way. At least my understanding. That looks legit and it looks actually edge hardened.

It is through hardened, the edge just shows some color from a little oxygen in the stainless envelope during Heat treat.

What’s the point of the foil cacoon? And what did you put in it?

It keeps oxygen out and prevents “burning” the steel. I put argon gas in to remove even more oxygen.

It’s an even heat. I am not sure what they cost now.
