Man, you’re hard on the Spaniards. Granted, they didn’t win many engagements, but they never stopped fighting. Love your content all the same!

Russians didn't remove the Grenadier coys from their 1st and 3rd Bns to form Converged Gren Coys, they used the Gren Coys from the 2nd Bns of all the units in the division form a pair of converged Gren coys.

But the grenadiers didnt fight with their parent battalions? so what happened to them?

@@NapoleonicWargaming according to all the research I have done recently, they DID fight with the parent battalion, The Grenadier Coy consisted of a platoon of Grens which formed up on the right of the Bn and a platoon of Strelki, skirmishers, which formed up on he left of the Bn.

Huh. That is quite the revelation! Certainly overturns older research. I guess as more Russian sources get translated into English, previously held misunderstandings will come to light! Very interesting

My mate and I find that Disorder is too frequently achieved and so we allow Morale rolls of 6 to 'rally off' or counteract 1 potential disorder. For example: Player one rolls two 6s to force two Morale rolls and inflicts two Disorders - Player two would have to roll two 6s on the Morale response in order to prevent being disordered. It makes a bit of a difference - not much but we prefer it. As I mainly play French verses British/Allies your grenadier suggestion would cancel each other out I suspect. I really appreciate how you look at this though - you should be authoring a supplement of some sort yourself. Not entirely convinced the Grenadiers fought that differently enough from the centre companies to make much of a difference compared to how differently light companies fought - but I like the thinking. Thanks again for another great video.

    Very interesting. Some interesting ideas

That are certainly interesting ideas. I do not quite agree with your argument though. A company of specialists in an entire battalion would not make too much of a difference in the overall battle. It had its reasons and justification to combine these companies to foem seperate units were their effectivenes is not diluted and still usefull to the regiment. This applies to grenadiers as much as to the light units. Therfore I would argue that it is not importand if there are 15% (just a random number) of a battalion elite troops, when the rest is not as well trained and equipped. This is not to say, that these units and man did not have an effect on their fellow soldiers. But remember, Grenadiers were popular back then as well. For every heroic tale of a grenadier there are multiple of others, who hare not told. And in the end all of these poor souls wanted to survive and life, rather than die a "heroes" death.
None the less, this was another fine video and a interesting though on your side.
Thank you for that. Stay save on your trip and have fun with the game you will be playing with your buddy.

Great Video as always, may I throw an idea your way. Could you please do a video on compare different rule types eg.( Black power ,Chosen men, Absolute Emperor). Of course you can pick the difference rule sets, a lot new wargamers were asking me and I believe that your the best man that could put it off and you have a great following both on here and Facebook.

Thanks for the kind words. It's not something I'm necessarily against, but for practical matters its unlikely. In order to give a fair assessment I'd want to play a number of games with each rule set, to give them a good run out, and I just don't have the time or the opportunity!
As always, I'll never say never, and I'll certainly be buying Absolute Emperor, but as it currently stands on unlikely to be able to do a project like that. Sorry!

@@NapoleonicWargaming I agree with Ray on this one. Your content is fantastic, and all the time and energy you put in is appreciated in more ways that I can afford to express.
It would just be really cool if over time this channel started exploring historical simulation type wargames as well. They are also a huge part of the hobby after all, and a tradition that is well worth honouring.
Its already great to see such effort being put into building armies that are modelled and painted with passion, accuracy and attention to detail. It would be equally great to see that same passion for accuracy applied to the battle simulation side too.
Like you say though, its not always practical to find the time to do this and take on a whole new project to study. But then again, its a gradual process, and we have a whole lifetime to pursue tabletop excellence.
Thanks again, looking forward to every new episode.

Engineers are on p102 of Clash of Eagles. An army can have one stand of Engineers per Division or 500 points. French may have 2. To give each Grenadier coy the Engineer ability is way over powerful. Engineers give the unit they are attached to +1 Attack when attacking a fortification, building etc. The En reduce their Morale save by 1 for each HIT of the attacking unit. When defending a building or fortification etc the En unit loses a H-2-H attack. If the unit the Engr stand is attached to becomes Shaken while attacking a building, fortification etc, the Engr stand is destroyed.

Yeah, it was a bit if an afterthought tbf. Though expanding on it, if we're saying the grenadier coy is elite 6 instead of the battalions elite 5+, I think having a Sapper detachment could be a lesser buff than the engineer stand. But yeah, I'm not gonna die on that hill, it's probably unnecessary
