I agree with using a wash to help pick out the details on the white uniforms. I usea 50:50 mix of Army Painter Soft Tone and Strong Tone and rather heavily diluted with Speed Paint Medium (also Army Painter) and water. It adds depth and definition to the minis. I hade a big batch of this and found it woirks well on colors other than white.
They look great, I would suggest a wash with maybe Army Painter soft tone to make the different parts of the white standout more, doing Austrians myself and it helps show the straps and other features better. Then you can do a light highlight with white again to make it standout more.
Good idea, I was using corax white on some as it gave a grey effect. I'll try Soft Tone, as far as I'm aware the uniforms were closer to a cream wool than crisp white.
Great start. The shako was introduced slowly from 1806 for reasons of economy, starting with Hungarian regiments first, so by 1809 all Hungarian regiments wore the shako but virtually all Austrian regiments were still wearing the helmet. Grenadier battalians usually had 6 companies from 3 different regiments. Hope that helps a little. Good luck with the project.
Thanks Tony. That's interesting what you say about the helmets even in 1809. My Hungarians are in Shakos, although I'll probably just keep the one Austrian battalion in helmets. I do like the helmets though, it's good to have some variety across the battlefield.
@@BattleMatt I was about to make the same remark as Tony haha but I won't ;-) great choice to start with the Austrians! And yes for 1809 All German units should have the Helmet and only the Hungarian units should have the shako by then ;)
hi matt , your Austrians looking great , i have some Austrians i got grenadiers couple of regiments and cav , busy painting some line infantry at the moment , where did you get your cannon and officers from thanks

Figures look great Matt, brave of you to take on so much white
Thanks David.
Looking great so far Matt... looking forward to seeing this grow.
Fantastic start Matt. The fact that you've based them individually makes them useful for other games like Sharp Practice.
That's what I was thinking, also just got GdA2 so not sure of the basing for that.
Fantastic start! Can't wait to see how it progresses!
Well done, beautiful Austrians...nice touch with the sapper!
Thanks Phil
Good looking early Austrians,
and agreed, nicely sculped figures are a joy to paint, in any scale imo.
Good looking paint job
Nicely done, Welcome back 👍🎲
The cannon should be ochre or “yellow”
Thank you
