"They should have known better than to release the game in this state." Oh they knew damn well what they were doing, they're testing to see how badly they can price gouge people before they change it so they can pretend to be consumer friendly. It's just marketing, they knew exactly what they were doing.
It's the oldest trick in the book, first introduce incredibly grindy and predatory system and then after backlash backtrack to something only slightly less grindy and predatory to seem like you are listening to community without turning off the money faucet.
@@igrvks "Man these monkeys were mad last year when we charged 5$ for Ten Helmets, now they're spending 1000$ to reach a single Helmet!" Is what their Marketing team is probably laughing over as people adjust to this stuff.
For fuck's sake... I told everyone about this. I told people this would get fucked with the free-to-play model. But no. Nobody fucking listened. Enjoy Halo: Infinite Microtransactions. I know Microsoft is.
@@arnox4554 well thankfully its free, so you can experience the bullshit firsthand and move on without giving them any $$$. I have 3 friends Ive played with and none of us have spent a dollar on the game. The campaign will be the same way, until I get coop.
@@arnox4554 so don't buy a microtransaction. It seems that the concept of not paying for cosmetics is foreign, and people talk as if they absolutely need to buy it... Call it out for being bullshit and don't buy it. They'll either relax or the game will die, we will see what 343 decides to do.
For those who don’t know, the “play a match” challenge only gives you 50 exp. You need 1000 exp to level up the battlepass (which btw doesn’t give you shit cuz all of the “good stuff” is locked behind the premium pass) that’s 20 fucking games to get one or two pieces of armor if you don’t do any of the bullshit weeklys. And people are already AFKing matches because they know that regardless if they win or lose, they get the same amount of exp as everyone else Update: There is now an update that gives people a total of 1050 exp if you play 7 games EACH day and ONLY each day. Since there are 100 levels in the battle pass, that’ll be 100 days of gameplay without doing weeklys. Improvement? Yes. A solution? Absolutely fucking not
On top of this, there's a 50 daily challenge cap, where you can only earn 50 XP up to 50 times a day, so basically you only get daily xp for the first 50 matches you play that day. I don't think anyone casually would play 50 matches in one day but still there is a progression cap, and that isn't right in my book.
@@flashpone7910 but in that same token they shouldn’t put a block into it via restricting access to XP. Battle passes are already banking on psychological manipulation, they should just do what everyone else does and make the pass large with higher tiers requiring more XP to unlock (via playing.) That way there isn’t a cap but there’s only 24 hours in a day, so even playing 24/7 everything won’t be unlocked immediately. 343 is trying to put their own spin on this crap and it’s failing hard. It’s a huge case of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” I’d rather have it back to Halo Reach fully unlockable armor via time playing but we all know that shit isn’t happening again, as much as we wish it could.
$20 for a set of armour or $60 for a full campaign. People defending this are being taken for a joke, imagine thinking a single armour set is worth a THIRD of an entire campaign. Stop calling it Microtransactions. That's a DLC. That's an expansion. A third of an entire GAME.
Right. If it was $1, then ok. Even that is still WAY overpriced, but that’s the system. At $1 each I’d be incentivized to buy some stuff. Sure, let me grab $10 worth of stuff, or a nice $20 pack with a massive amount of like, 30 things. Ppl will spend if it’s cheap. This is only going to goad the whales. They probably did the calculus to find max revenue price point using quantity demanded at each price. Which sucks for us. But what they have to understand is, overpricing for the majority can kill the game.
At this point I'd rather have paid 60 bucks for one package of campaign and MP and just dish out cash for story expansions. This shit is too whack, and you don't get any incentives for purchasing the campaign, no visor color, no warthog color, no knees. Nothin. Nada. Zilch
The thing that scares me the most about this is the free to play model. “Oh it’s all cosmetic don’t worry” it doesn’t matter. One of the best things about halo was earning your armor through gameplay like halo reach. Just cause it’s halo doesn’t mean it gets a pass on the packs that are going to be sold and armor locked behind your wallet. I’m dreading the day we see the store filled with packs that are 19.99 or “best value 49.99” in game credit packs. It’s just not halo. It’s Fortnite. The game itself is fun I’m having fun. But the skin packs coming is going to be insane. Not to mention the current customization is BARE bones. It’s so bad imo. Even playing it the thought of all the armor and cool stuff being locked behind a paywall just turns me away from playing. Multiple times while playing id just go “I’m over it” and alt f4 the game. What am I playing towards? What cool end game visor? What cool helmet? Or end game shader am I busting my ass for? Nothing. Nothing at all. Even if they fix the bp progression and all that. ALL the cosmetics (or like 90%) of it will be locked behind paywalls. They’ll never stop either. The games free to play. Nails already in the coffin.
Bro comparing this to Fortnite doesn't even stack up in the slightest. Epic Games literally gives the community (and industry) a completely free to use game engine. Halo was literally asset flipped in the Unreal Engine (Epic games made this engine) UE 5 is literally the worlds most powerful game engine / renderer. It was a billion $ project that they have given the literal world a free-to-use license to do whatever the fuck you want with. It's sad to see that it's mostly being used by big studios to quickly churn out asset flip skinnerbox tech demos marketed through a stolen I.P to literally scam gamers. Fortnite doesn't hold basic colour picker functionality behind a ransom. Also the level of customisation in Fortnite is literally arbitrary. It is not a main focus of the game. The gameplay IS the main focus of the game. Fortnite skins are cheap and are usually a ''buy and forget'' kind of deal. You could use the same skin for years and not feel the need to change it. This doesn't compare to what Microsoft has done in the slightest. All you need is a basic ass brain to see the difference. Halo didn't give us the worlds most powerful game engine free to use. Microsoft would NEVER do such a thing. They would literally charge you a million $ to use their WORLDS MOST POWERFUL ENGINE if they had it. But hilariously enough, the only product they actually developed is an operating system that is falling apart at its seams and was also primarily used to scam businesses and consumers alike in its heyday. You don't want to know how bad microsoft is. Heck even Bill Gates said he wanted to reduce the worlds population through vaccination and i think that's telling.
@@SoalRaptor Exactly. Epic Games knows what being a decent human being and supporting the community is all about. They didn't make any mistakes with what they were doing. That's why nobody complains about it. With the money they earned from their non-predatory microtransaction scheme that isn't really much of a skinnerboxbut rather a more complimentary and arbitrary feature they went on to release the worlds most powerful game engine / renderer to the community free to use for whatever purpose, licensing included. The company we're comparing this to, is literally microsoft. I've already installed Linux. Just waiting for the rest to catch on really. When have you ever heard of microsoft giving back to the community. All they do is take away.
Its impressive how everybody falls fot it, two years from now we are going to see the Halo Infinite (2023*) reviews and stories about great "comebacks" like those of No Man Sky and Battlefront II
@@FC-jd1ck ngl tho, No Mans Sky is by far the greatest comback in gaming history, the game is literally amazing right now and is by far the best "space game" ive played after Eve
I really do love the game, but if you want to collect any sort of cosmetic, you're gonna have to at least spend 30 bucks to get something GOOD. I mean, the skins alone are 10-15 bucks, the daily roulette is 7-8 bucks, which contains anything from 1 color scheme for a skin you might not use, to a pose and some stickers. The currency is 20 bucks and it gets you the premium skin on sale that week or whatever, and then you're left with like, 200 coins? Can't buy shit with that, so you'll have to buy another batch of currency for like 5 bucks, but even then the daily skins aren't really worth it and - UGH. It's atrocious.
Probably because older halo games allowed you to unlock everything just by playing the game, now they want you to spend 15 bucks for blue or 15 for green
They have a good thing going, we just need these damn battle passes to not be in every system. I much prefer stuff based on credits and accomplishments like in reach
If it’s free, a battle pass is going to get implemented. I hate it just as much as everyone else, but there’s a reason industry giants are leaning towards F2P games w/ battle passes.
Should be something that you can earn in game + by spending money + they can have some exclusives skins for 6-12 months for real money only like Destiny 2 so it goes unnoticed.
I think with battle passes it's truely ruined any reason for devs to put in ways to really earn in game credits for cosmetics when you could force the players to spend money on buyable credits for shitty skins that are overpriced.
There won't be a Halo game with progression like Reach again lol unfortunately it is way more lucrative for them to use battle passes&F2P, than charge a flat 60$ forever with no microtransactions
They made it ridiculous and unworkable on purpose so that everyone will sing their praises when they walk some of it back. I see you, Microsoft. I see you. The games industry has run this play too many times for me to fall for it anymore.
I just hate how they promised everything would be earned through progression, but stepped back on that. I knew the moment they said they're implementing a battle pass, it was going to be heavily monetized and restricted by the objectives. Thus, I held my breath and I'm glad I did so. The challenges utterly ruin the experience. When I got into the multiplayer, I laughed my ass off at seeing the Fortnite like store. Please, do not buy anything from the store. Do not conform to, and allow these horrendous business practices to continue.
@@egirlcafemanager7119 The battle pass is bad because there's nothing you can unlock without it just by playing, the pass is bloated with XP boosters and challenge swaps to make it seem like you're getting a lot of items when you're not, most of the good stuff is put out to the store, the battle pass is grindy with the challenges because 343 knows that people who have psychological issues similar to gamblers will cave and purchase the whole battle pass for like $150
Well the game was free so the battle pass is Kinda like you know supporting the free game you play and like I think most people are just spoiled and you can earn everything in game but it will take you a long time there are players who will wait for that time and then theres some who wont
@@HDGaminTutorials I'd rather pay $60 for a full game, everything earned through progression than play a free game with a notoriously abusive system that hurts the players and sections the player base into broke, poor, and whales. I saw the battlepass and the store and I immediately uninstalled the game. I'll buy and play the campaign, but if we're being entirely honest, Halo hasn't been the same since 4.
Grindy battle passes and microtransactions in general are the bane of every modern video game nowadays. Sad to see such a great game have that same flaw embedded in it.
I hate how every game nowadays is trying to follow market trends and fads for money, there's just such a lack of soul and individuality between games now
I had no idea they were calling this a “beta.” I am so sick and tired of companies pushing out games way too early using the “early access” or “beta” title as an excuse to release a half baked game.
And the betas in recent years have been releasing a couple WEEKS to a month before the full release of said game. All recent “betas” are just the full game used for promotion and to get players to buy/preorder the game
If you didn't play Halo infinite's test flights I can see why you wouldn't think 343 were smart calling this a beta. There has already been multiple test flights that went through different stages from privately to completely managed inscription based public test previews. By doing that they recognized that the term beta has lost most of its meaning so they used the flights for the gameplay based feedback and this beta for the feedback for the malicious mtx
hahahahahahahahahahahahah This is a ransomware skinnerbox that stole Bungies hard work so they could asset flip it in an unfinished Unreal Engine tech demo. They want you to pay a 20$ ransom for a colour picker tool. Let that sink in guys. This isn't Halo. Halo is dead and corporatism killed it.
The worst thing is that people still use this excuse on the reddit when literally the blogpost posted by 343 themselves straight up says that this is the full game. They have a point asking "Why is this a beta" and the answer is literally "Because we need to test server capacity but this is the official start with all maps and modes and the microtransaction store is fully functional!" (wo- fucking -ho). So yeah this is the full release. They just call it beta so idiots will go in saying "It's just a beta bro don't be so negative, all of this will be fixed by release!" (like hell it will)
on top of that, they flat out lied multiple times which is just sketchy in general, whos says they’ll only lie about mtx and they won’t do the same when bugs inevitably come and they don’t fix them
@@edumaicol4141 it has enough, every important figure in the Halo Community has spoken about it, news site talking about it won't do any more, outsiders don't care as much as fans.
They keep on trying to make us remember this is "still in BETA." And yet, they set up all this monetization like the game already came out in full force.
That Beta label is complete bullshit meant to defend against criticism. Sadly it works, because when you try to tell people this they get absurdly defensive on 343's behalf.
Betas don’t mean what they think it means. I’ve played so many “Betas” that turned out to be the full product. Mass Effect Andromeda, Anthem and what a letdown they were. Halo will be the same way. What we’re playing now will be the full product.
343 should bring Reach's progression back. It was amazingly satisfying and nowadays a credit system would give you equal or more microtransaction money without excluding people that won't pay for credits. We could just save enough for an specific armor part and keep on playing without having an absurd paywall holding us
I've been saying Reach progression system should be brought back for years. Everytime I brought it up I got blasted for whining and bitching, especially when I talk about my hate for H5 progression system (I hate the game as a whole tbh ). I give up. Let 343 fuck it up. It ain't got shit to do with me anymore.
Bro they won't be bringing Reach's progression back. They don't care about the fans. They ditched their own engine so they could asset flip Bungies work in the Unreal Engine and literally ransomware them. They even ransomed the colour picker ffs. It's not even legal bro.
They didn't even bother finishing the campaign on launch. Do you have ANY idea how little work they actually put in. It's not hard to asset flip things in the Unreal Engine especially when Bungie did 99% of the work already.
What were they? I played a few matches, My main issue is the progression + customisation + shitty matchmaking - sick of getting 160 ping, I know having super faster internet doesn't mean shit but at least allow the players the option to choose servers i.e Oceanica, Asia, NA, SA, Africa etc
Challenges are always meant to be a supplementary boost to the performance XP, not the only way to gain it. I'm a long time fan of Halo and also believe that Infinite's potential is HUGE, but this is seriously holding it back. The main reason (seemingly) that Infinite's multilayer went F2P was to bring in new players, but instead it seems to be warding people off because no one wants to put in this excessive grind to unlock anything good.
It went F2P in order to lure players who are likely to have spending issues in to squeeze them as whales. Microsoft is probably the most exploitative game corporations out there cause unlike say Activision the fact that the target audience is children only increases their avarice rather than tempering it. Going F2P is another way to drain mummy and daddys credit card
And they'll say the daily challenge for "play a game" is to make up for that. Which is ridiculous. And not just because it actually ends after 50 or so matches.
@@ThePlayerOfGames Yes, this is what all those mobile gacha games do, and they're trying to get that gacha money too, but without the RNG! Although Halo is an M-rated game the point still stands!
So after spending about 10 hours playing this game as a newbie to the multiplayer HALO scene, (I did play singleplayer campaigns of Master Chief Collection) I can say this. The way that progress is implemented in this game is terrible. There's no sense of keeping playing as you get a match that can be fun, or can be horrible depending on the skill level and organisation of your opponents. (3 people playing in a group can ruin a 24 player map, but that is to be expected). Most of the time regardless of how well you performed you get a base 50 XP progress which is abysmally low. The arbitrary challenges that reward XP are so specific and require a perfect setup which is often times impossible in a fast paced shooter like this. This completely ruins any kind of drive to continue playing the game for more than a couple of matches at a time. They made it so slow that the time gate pretty much discourages trying to acquire cosmetics so what you end up with is a causal feel to the game where you hop in, play a few rounds, leave and get nothing in return.
I want someone for the love a god to throw a brick at the company building fon343 cause I want them to see how hated they’ve become in destroying this game
Challenges should just be "boosters" not the main way to get points if you need 1000 points, and 1 kill gives 1 point, but a challenge that gives the least, gives you 500, then its broken.
@@MixtapesOfThe90s have you ever leveled a battle pass in Fortnite? Fortnite gives back vbucks offer permanent xp buffs and the progression is way faster. Literally not even comparable
@@MixtapesOfThe90s Fortnite dosent take along time to grind out the entire pass. You can easily grind the entire thing out under 24 hours gametime if you space out time for dailies and weeklies. Which arent hard at all. Get damage with x weapon type Destroy x number of y object. Land at z Talk to npc x y z Super generic. I don't like defending Fortnite but their progression is legitmently fair on all lvls. You dont have to buy pass every season since you earn more then enough vbucks to get the next pass.
Theyre a business first.. and consumer company last. Its the way of any business to walk that fine line between making money and keeping people happy enough to spend their money
Before Halo Reach, in-game cosmetics represented actual in-game achievements - some as simple as finishing the campaign or performing modest achievements, some as difficult as completing seven very difficult challenges across two different games. It encouraged players to design costume combinations because you knew exactly what you had to do to get certain items, and the few rare pieces were highly desirable not just because they were rare and stood out, but represented that you had put some serious time and effort into getting them. Even in Halo Reach, and making players have to get fancy gear by PLAYING THE GAME not only made the cosmetics much more widely varied by people playing Fashion Souls with it, but made the most difficult-to-earn gear highly desirable because it said you had played a LOT of the game. Now you are paying the equivalent of an entire good indie game or a AAA game a few years old to get one costume set in one game. I can't fathom wanting a single armour set in Halo so much when nearly every Halo game ever made currently retails for less than the cost of that costume. And if you want to earn the stuff, it is exactly as efficient to play hard and win constantly as to leave the game on with a rubber band on the controller then go to bed.
Well said, and exactly why I have zero interest in this game. I don't care if the gameplay is good when they stripped down the rest of the experience and want me to pay to engage with it now. There is zero reason to play this game
I keep saying Halo ended with Reach. My friends keep telling me that I'm wrong. 343 era Halo feels like CoD (reusing animations, MTX, shitty progression, battle pass, etc) and fanboys are simping hard for this games.
Halo MP being separated from the campaign was done to double dip via predatory F2P monetization. Otherwise all the F2P content you have to pay for would be automatically unlocked for those who own the main game. The whole purpose is to get you to pay at both ends and to get money from those who don't purchase the main game. The ONLY changes that will occur are those that do a better job at hiding their intentions.
@@TheRedRaven_ what Branson said. Multiplayer is free and campaign is full price, so the people who care about single player get ripped off as they don't benefit at all while having to deal with the problems that the mtx model brings. We lose 70% of our freedom to express ourselves in our Spartans (against what was promised from over a year ago until this beta) while still paying full price. Game is good, game is fun. But this ain't it, Chief
I feel like the answer is right in front of their face and they just can't see it: use the in-game achievements for xp. Double kill, steaktacular, headshot, no scope, etc. Use those for xp on top of the challenges! This lets players level up the way they WANT to play instead of forcing them to choose between grinding or credit card swiping. If I have the option to level up faster with xp boost and it isn't shoved down my throat, I'm more likely to get those xp boosts because I, the player, will still feel in control. If I need to buy these things just so I can get to level ten before my hundredth birthday, it's no more fun than paying the damn rent to my apartment. Open up the options to gain xp and the river of money will flow.
Consider all of the AAA games of the last 12 months? These are NOT, “mistakes,” or, “errors,” by these companies. It’s their business model: The minimum effort for the maximum profit and/or the most egregious business practices that they already KNOW they will have to roll back, but have planned for ahead of time. They damned well know that rolling back their scams makes them look like they’ve, “listened to the consumer,” and they get away with leaving it more broken and cash grabbing than it would have been if they’d started introducing these, “surprise mechanics,” down the road. “It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission,” and it’s easier to leave scams in your game after appearing to, “compromise,” and take some of the worst ones out. Ones that they always knew they would have to remove and probably already had the date set in their calendars for their financial forecasts. Like perverts who enjoy paying for punishment, we keep handing over our cash and then politely entering into a, “dialogue,” with a bunch of goons whom we should be treating with the same levels of utter contempt that they all seem to have for their employees! The more we learn about every company, the more horror stories we learn about death threats, suicides, rapes, and substance abuse, not to mention crunch time, over promising and lying to investors, and CDPR even managed to destabilise their own government’s economy! The leaders of these companies are like disturbed teenagers with addiction issues, looking for new clever ways to scam us, and we don’t even have the self respect or dignity to just say, “F*ck you! We’re NOT buying your game until AFTER it’s fixed, working and NOT attempting to ROB US!” I count myself as one of their suckers, too often taken in by the sweet talk of the pusher at the gates of the school, like 343, getting everyone addicted to their product BEFORE hitting them with the price hikes. But, no more. Not even the most critical reliable reviewers and games journalists EVER think to tell the public, “JUST DON’T BUY THEIR GAMES!” But I would cheer to the rafters if someone with Yong’s kind of reach and influence organised us into a consumer union. If we all acted together we could change the games industry over night! We should be ashamed of ourselves for allowing such immature degenerates get the better of us in the first place! But hey . . . That’s just me . . . 🤷♂️🙄✌️
They literally did this for Halo Reach, and making players have to get fancy gear by PLAYING THE GAME not only made the cosmetics much more widely varied by people playing Fashion Souls with it, but made the most difficult-to-earn gear highly desirable because it said 'I have played a LOT of this game'. Similarly, before Reach, cosmetics were unlocked by achievements and things like the Recon armour became incredibly desirable because you had to complete 7 very difficult challenges to get it. It was a statement of skill and determination. Now it just says 'hey I have disposable cash and nothing better to spend it on'.
they did this with fuckin MCC, I really don't understand why they didn't copy that BP that is unanimously well liked for being flexible in what you'd like to unlock first in that ranking
Progression does not feel rewarding, and it’s implemented so poorly that it encourages people to not contribute to their team. It’s slow and tedious to complete challenges and it often makes people disincentivized to play objectives and win games. After 15-20 challenges per week that’s it, you’re done, only way to get xp is to complete games. Experience per kill, objective xp, and win bonuses would go a long way to give people a reason to contribute to their team, rather than camping a Needler for their weekly challenges.
you are doing it wrong. I dont pay any attention to any challenges on my bp ever. I play ranked and some some big team to chill. i have only spent money on bp, used on xp tokens to lvl up and im lvl 23, games been out for what 2 weeks? this season is 5 months, im pretty sure without trying you can max out in 5 months.

and its not JUST the grind. Separate of progression, the way the shop works is way overpriced, and the free event art is filled with items that can't be earned through that event.
Not just the grind, it doesn’t have any content and you’re limited to three playlists, there’s no hit collision either so you literally phase through the enemy team. There are so many problems besides the challenges, the customization being locked to armor cores makes it so you’re literally locked to using only a few cosmetics. The bad progression is just the cherry on top of this shit sundae.
I would hardly call it an egregious monetization scheme when they released it early and free. Is their progression system as a whole a complete misfire? Yes. Do you have to spend a single penny to have fun playing the game. No. Speak with your dollars and enjoy the game itself. They'll make adjustments in the meantime.
I've already burnt out on the game trying to complete all the weekly challenges, they're so hyper specific and frustrating to actually finish. Ended the week with one challenge left where I had to win three matches of Oddball, played for three hours and didn't even get into an oddball match. The gameplay is good and can be a lot of fun but I don't often have the time to commit to the game for challenges like this.
I don’t understand the “it’s free” argument. I’d rather pay $60 for the game to have a good progression/level system then have a bad one for free.. also simple things like a level and changing your colour were always a part of halo, it’s odd to have those things taken away
Honestly, 60 dollar games are pretty bad now progression/levelling wise, look at BF (which some paid 90-100 bucks for). Games in general are prioritizing this important stuff less and less
I miss the good old days when someone had a sweet piece of gear, they usually had to do something to earn it like beating the whole game on legendary or finding all the skulls or doing some Easter egg … now it’s just “oh wow that guy spent 40 bucks on that skin pack”.
I remember doing the recon armor thing for halo 3 and odst. Playing firefight on legendary getting that last achievement to get the armor felt amazing.
And it will keep getting worse, I wouldn't be surprised if my favorite company (FromSoftware) starts doing the same sh¡t, when that happens that's the day i'll retire from gaming.
I don't know about you guys, but there's no such thing as a "too expensive microtransaction" to me. There's literally no price that would convince me to buy any of them.
Awesome game, horrible progression and monetization. It is so bad, it actually drives you away from the game. Even with a purchased battle pass, once you’re finished from the few challenges you’re done for the week. Plus, the challenge swaps are ridiculous. They totally created a problem that you can only fix by spending money. Horrible! Thanks for covering this.
So you paid 60 dollars for a game like halo 3 in 2007 and you weren’t mad when it didn’t have any serious progression and cosmetics. Yet you’re complaining about a free game because you don’t get all the armor and all the progression. Gamers are so negative man

The only thing I will give the game crap for is the lack of dedicated playlists for game modes and the lack of game modes. Other than that I'm just doing the waiting game until they update the game to include these features. I never cared about my character looking like a samurai or what my sparton looks like in terms of color, I just play the game and hope they add more over time. It's a free to play title so gamers expecting EVERYTHING to be there at launch is a bit moronic. And to call a game trash and unenjoyable just because you dont like the business model is also nonsensical. I feel that gamers can be very entitled, and this backlash shows it.
@@MrJustin43 if you can spend real money on micro transactions, especially ones to move forward in the only tangible progression system, I consider this a full release. I hope you’re right and the “full” release as you say changes things, but you have to admit this is really messed up and sad coming off of reach having an almost perfect system. THERE ARE BETTER WAYS TO MONETIZE YOUR GAME
I can't see this getting fixed properly until a year later when a good chunk of players put the game down. Right now the priority is to dance around the issue and lightly appease us. They want us to spend money on this game in the first 12 months before they make major changes. Its pure greed. These devs are not on our side. We need to understand this. They just want to keep us happy enough to keep spending.
So don't spend. Don't pre-order, wait for reviews, make sure you do use your consumer rights to return products for any reason, don't purchase DLC, only buy games in sales rather than at full price (by which time the true nature of the game has been revealed)
I agree with most of this comment, but I have to play devil's advocate on behalf of the devs. Cause in the end? It isn't them who are making these decisions. They're bound to what their managers and corporate overlords want them to do. Otherwise why would they push such a horribly monetized system? Something this bad could only come from the blind and greedy people at the top who think players will just sit back and take this.
@@milesdoyle7683 either way, only way we're seeing change is by holding onto our wallets. Once they see that line graph drop is when they'll start to listen.
@@goose2323 so am I. I do care about these progression and microtransaction problems but at the end of the day we all just play the game because it's fun, not because they exist.
@@goose2323 one of the most beloved series in gaming is being used as a microtransaction slaughterhouse by a trillion dollar company and bootlickers like you cry when people criticize it, genuinely disgusting
@@goose2323 Why can't we have both? Spartan personalization has been a big part of halo for years, and this kind of aggressive monetization freaking sucks. Why can't 343 give us a good game while allowing us to personalize our dude for a reasonable price or over time via grinding?
I think that if the "Weekly "challenges were just normal challenges that would fix this, even if it's grindy is not that bad, the biggest issue is that you run out of weekly challenges and it literally stops your progression on the battle pass and event.
The problem even with XP boosts in RNG. You have to get challenges that can all be completed together as quickly and efficiently as possible to get more XP. You can't focus down Commendations like other games, you have to roll a dice.
Grindy would make it crap. Most people play games for fun. Entertainment. They don't do it non stop. They might play one game every other day or even take a week or more of a break depending on how busy they are with kids, jobs. With all due respect, your suggestion says that people who play frequently, should pay less or not at all and those who play infrequently should pay to unlock extra customisation. It's the complete opposite to how it should be. Why would i pay in app purchases on a game I don't get the chance to play that often anyways?
@@UnitAlir yeah this is an aspect that really isn't getting touched upon much. I don't have a lot of time in the week to actually put down on a game, so the game needing me to spend basically ALL my free time on it for any sense of reward is a complete turn-off. I know I'm the kind of person who struggles greatly with these models and needs to make my time feel like it wasn't wasted so spends money, so amma be avoiding infinite for now unfortunately.
Mode based challenges are annoying in this game because you can't just cycle the matchmaking to search for One mode , like strong hold , There is no penalty for leaving ,there's nothing stopping me from just leaving a match when it begins when I don't see the mode I need to play for the challenge. No I don't do it often and yes that's shitty on other players but I'm pointing out is this gives reason for people to do that and the ones that truly don't give a fuck will do what I mentioned
@@kronksstronkstonks6360 You hit the nail on the head. It really is all about spending all your free time on the game. The common trait in any online game that I use to decide whether i should completely avoid the game or not. It's a game, not a job.
@@Mangopawsss Still sucked ass lol. Remember the month of mythic? I wouldn't call it earnable through gameplay if it means no lifing the crap out of the game... That's asking wayyy too much... But I agree over all. Halo 5 micros are largely better than the bs micros seen here...
I've played 30 hours so far, and have only got to level 17 in the battle pass. I don't consider myself amazing, but I rarely have a "negative" game and aim for challenges when possible. Yet it takes this long. I've stopped playing for now because I've run out of challenges, thus rendering the battle pass impossible for now. The game is so fun to play, but without that feeling of genuine progression you're pulled right out of the experience. They NEED to fix this.
I agree with you. The only thing I disagree with is the progression system. We are so used to that feel good of progressing that because it has its own time gating, that it has taken the fun out of just playing the game. I remember when it was about that win or the cool kills or last minute saves. There wasn't a battle pass or lootboxes or time gates. It doesn't matter how good or bad you are, as long as you complete challenges, then you'll earn the armor sets, you know, the ones they re used back in halo reach and 3. BUT you do have to pay 20 bucks first. This isn't fun anymore.
@@christopherw8477 that sounds a lot like "sense of pride and accomplishment". The basic idea that you as a person are making some kind of progression that it's hard wired into us so that there's entire career streams built around making people feel good that they're progressing, ever heard of Human Resources?
My Pulse Carbine challenge stopped tracking after 2 kills. Took me 3 games to realize it. I only have 1 challenge swap left but it's pointless to use it
I'll always prefer my single-player experiences for these kind of reasons. . . Games these days - especially ones involved with online multiplayer - are less focused on being built to be strong and exceptional games, and more designed ultimately to be a strong and exceptional business model. You really hate to see it.
I feel like this is why I'm moving more and more away from multiplayer games myself. I'd like to enjoy them, but ultimately they just become frustrating as I cannot just play for fun but have to be super competitive to even progress and unlock stuff (even more so in Infinite).
I like the part where yet another AAA company promises from day one that there will "never be microtransactions" and "be ready for the pure game you all know and love", then within a week of "beta", 2 main modes of the core game are delayed for 6+ months and microtransactions show up that're more expensive and useless than Fortnite. I literally have been playing Blasphemous and Ender Lillies, two pixel art Indie games that're unbelievably amazing and fun... Oh, and neither of them are ruining icon classics.
They never said that.... People are paying full price for bf and cod and all of them are filled with mts. Halo is AAA quality for free. nobody is forcing you to pay a dollar...
They do it every single time! All of the games companies are the same. Like drug dealers hanging around outside the local school, they get everyone hooked and hike up the prices, and you all act like junkies who can’t stop handing over your cash! If people just had the sense to STOP GIVING THEM YOUR MONEY, you’d all be stunned at how effective that strategy is! I’m the same, and I don’t exclude myself from being in the sucker club, but I’ve learned my lesson. I won’t even touch a game unless it’s settled in and gotten positive reviews. I don’t touch Betas or Alphas, because they aren’t there to, “test for flaws to improve the game,” and anyone believing that has been hoodwinked. They only exist for the Corpos to see what they can get away with! They only ever fix the bugs that prevent them from making money, and reduce the, “surprise mechanics,” that get the loudest, biggest complaints that threaten to put off the players. This has been the single worst year in games publishing, because the market has become a giant scam, run by people who clearly don’t even play the damned games, but damned well know how their pay-to-win mechanics work! WE have made these monsters! ALWAYS handing over our cash no matter how egregious their practices are! EA Blizzard is run by substance abusing, death threat issuing, sex predators, while CDPR destabilised their own country’s economy! Rockstar farmed out their most popular, “upgrades,” to the cheapest bidder, who used an AI that can’t even SPELL to ruin people’s fondest memories and make them look like d*cks for recommending these games to their (by now, Ex) friends . . . The list is endless, but the consumer NEVER has enough self discipline or organisation to simply NOT buy the game collectively! Even Yong and all the other leading reviewers come out to tell us all about these grievous, appalling hits against the industry, but listen carefully? Have you EVER heard just ONE of them say, “Don’t buy the game, people!” I haven’t! Not once! Yet therein lies your POWER to force them to change overnight! STOP PAYING THESE DEGENERATES TO SCREW YOU OVER, people!? Can’t you resist these games for a few weeks? If you did, they would put their top people on it and change the entire industry in a heartbeat! What GOOD is Yong’s detailed analysis, however good and insightful it is, if NOTHING EVER CHANGES??? Each release of a new AAA game seems to be learning from the last one, like a giant algorithm, trying to figure out what corners can be cut in order to get through your life savings in the shortest possible time! And they release the games KNOWING they’ll have to cut back on their scams, but they know they get away with more by pretending they’ve, “listened to the consumer,” and done something about their sickest cheats, instead of just releasing a fair game that works for the consumer! These are not, “errors.” It’s their business model. We have to act together, or it will keep spiralling out of control? Someone with influence, like Yong here, should organise a consumer union. If millions of players around the world just didn’t buy games without positive reviews coming out, and if people STOPPED pre-ordering, even if they offer players BJ’s from their favourite rock star, THEN the games companies would listen. And we’d all be astounded at how quickly they actually can rectify this bullsh*t.
Who said there wasn’t going to be micro transactions? It’s a free to play multiplayer, of course there is going to be micro transactions. The progression system isn’t going to effect the quality of the actual gameplay and campaign. This is going to be the best Halo game in a long time and the cosmetic multiplayer won’t change that.
They never once said there won't be MT's. It's damn free to play. The only time you need to spend money in this game is 100% your choice, there is zero need to spend a dime on anything in Halo, unless you want something "pretty".
What baffles me is they’ve already created a concrete efficient xp system with the Mcc. 1500-1800 for game completion…up to 12k for performance, then you have medal xp. Just migrate the systems over.
They also had a load of stuff you couldn't unlock cause it wasn't on a battlepass/season and if there was summit you wanted that was cool it would generally be high up and you'd have to play way to much to get it then the season ended and said item be lost forever MCC was awful in that regard admitted leveling up was a bit better but I prefer the open battlepass of infinite they do need to tweak it big time a win bonus be a start
@@BVDxBEAR my g back before they improved the leveling system we only got 50 xp per game. When you run out of weekly challenges the fuck else are you supposed to get xp from. clearly you are very much dimwitted

That's 72 slots that could be removed to increase the number of customization items or decrease the overall grind of the pass. Yes the base is free but if you want to unlock really anything or play the campaign you're dropping money. The fact that this is so piecemeal and lacking compared to the systems in place for Halo: Reach at launch is appalling consider Reach came out in 2010 [11 years ago] Seriously, the gameplay is fun but the sheer amount of scum and muck dripping from this is horrid. Do not congratulate 343 when they fix this they intended for this monetization and as we see with EVERY OTHER company it can't get any worse so anything better is great
At this point, I'm cynical enough about the games industry as a whole to believe they test the waters to see how much BS they can get away with and then lap up the praise from their communities by making it "not so bad" or "acceptable" in the long run, being benevolent enough to listen to their playerbase and gaining good will for their swift changes. halo infinite is amazing gameplay wise, its honestly just breathtaking, however 343 deffo needs to fix the progression and custimization so it isnt horrific, other things they do need is more maps and critically more gamemodes, as this will allow halo to be more replayable, since you are playing alot of stuff instead of a few things constantly.
I'd rather have quality over quantity for halo maps. A lot of them feel really smooth to play on and don't hinder my gameplay. I fear we'll end up with the regular trash halo maps from the previous recent games if we rush them.
@@Anthonyspartan514 i mean, while yes its in beta, it seems to be nothing new will be added on december 8th, just bug fixes etc, the limited timed event has added fiesta but for some reason 343 wants to remove it from the matchmaker, which to me, indicates the lack of gamemodes might be a deliberate choice by 343, which is horrifying if true, hopefully more game modes are added in the future in a quick time frame otherwise the game is going to be having several issues in the long term.
Besides challenges match performance needs to effect how much xp you get, every kill and doing the objective should give xp, somebody on the winning team who was top of their team should not get the same amount of xp as someone afk on the losing team. Challenges are also bad for the main source of xp because they make you play in a specific way that might make your team lose but you're rewarded for doing that.
The game itself is freaking amazing, the only FPS where I feel everyone is on even grounds and you don't have to die a thousand times to level up guns just to be close to other people. The only bad thing the the EXP. You are NOT rewarded for being good at the game. You get 50XP if you get 35 kills, you get 50XP if you get none and die 30 times causing your team to lose, and then you get 50XP for being AFK the entire match. Yeah, progression in this game is awful. However, I wish more would talk about how unstable the game is for a lot of people. For instance, I managed to play the game for 35 hours with no issues at all, but now the game is completely unplayable due to constant crashes. I've tried every suggested fix there is online and my support ticket is currently 5 days without reply. Even people that might not crash constantly seems to get the occasional crashes for no reason. I hope this gets fixed!
Me and my friends have a discord, and basically all of us playing the game have at least had one crash, most of us have had a few. We've all played for around 30 hours. The lobby system has issues, with people not appearing in parties even when they are, the battle pass takes forever to update when first launching. The game works 90% of the time, but it definitely has issues.
Thank you Yong for covering this complete dumpster fire of ongoing, microtransactions that continue to happen year after year, from big name video games like Halo: MCC - Halo: Infinite, along with many other video games. I don't wanna be that guy, over and over again Yong, but the b.s. modern way to game, from what I had watched on The Act Man's latest video, is pretty much because of the Battle Pass issue for all, and it is clearly showing, time & time again. The long story short of it is this: Microtransactions are bad kids. Don't fall for the scam, lead yourselves towards the grind.
Lol it's even worse for a guy like me. At least yong likes the gameplay so that's a positive for him. I mostly hate the gameplay and I'm just about the biggest anti micro transaction gamer there is so this whooole halo infinite experience is trash and I wont be getting into it. It is fun to laugh at this though lololol. Can't wait to see how dumb af the story ends up being lololol. Hopefully they do better than halo 5 at least lololol

I see a lot of people creating mock-ups and asking for a coating system like at 18:43 in the video. This is something that is actually possible. I created an ACTUAL functioning prototype and uploaded a video called "HALO INFINITE Color Customization prototype" It allows players to use the coating as a color map (for how colors are applied), gives the ability to pick colors, textures, materials, patterns, etc. With additional per piece color customization. I see a lot of photoshops of new systems, I want to show that it's ACTUALLY possible. We have been seeing these systems already for years in other games (Mass Effect, Anthem, etc).
You've already had decals, color customization, and mesh swapping since Earth & Beyond, the system's only expanded and then regressed because of money.
YES!!!! Yes I do lol. Unlocking ness in smash 64? You had to actually get a lil good to pull that off. You could mess it up if you were not careful. Gave the player incentive to play and challenge themselves as well as challenge the game. This is called good game development. Putting things inside of the game for the player to shoot for as goals. Knowing how to make them not too easy but not too hard either is key and smash 64 is a great example of this. And it's just a super fun game lol let's get real. Today? MOOOOOOOOM!!!!! Can I use your credit card mom???? PLEASE MOM!!!!!?!?!?!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't 343 say they weren't going to have a fair price progression system? I thought one of the higher ups at 343 said you don't have to spend money or grind forever to unlock things.
They have always said there was going to be a battlepass from the moment they said multiplayer will be free. I mean we already have the samurai armor core you can get for free by playing.
It's not just the microtransactions it's the lack of content and some of it being 9 months away like forge and co op. They will run this game into the ground at this rate.
The timeline for those were before season 1 was confirmed to be 6 months. Co-op can easily come in the middle of it and Forge with the start of season 2
Bro, i'm just gonna be straight with you. This shit was Dead On Arrival. You knew it was gonna be bad when they ditched their own engine and decided to asset flip Bungie's work in the Unreal Engine (because it's so fucking easy dude) That's how scams operate dude.
I miss when Halo had a robust customization system like it had in Reach. It felt so good unlocking things in that game. You know people who had the flaming skull or the Emil helmet worked their asses off.
7:21 Head's up about that; When you complete the "Complete Any Match" Daily Challenge, the system creates a new "Complete Any Match" Daily Challenge. So every game players are getting 50xp and only 50xp regardless of them winning, losing nor playstyle to make up for the fact they didn't make a working experience payout system for launch, (officially... I suspect Microsoft want to test the limit of players patience by including Tier Skips. It failed, because I'm not playing at all, other than learning the maps in solo custom games because of it). Still doesn't excuse the fact that means it takes 20 games to go up one tier without completing any of the Weekly Challenges.
On top of this, there's a 50 daily challenge cap, where you can only earn 50 XP up to 50 times a day, so basically you only get daily xp for the first 50 matches you play that day, capping the progression.
"Halo multiplayer is free" Most people: Wow, awesome! People who actually know what "free to play" means: Yeah, ain't got enough money in my wallet for that shit.
I wasn’t expecting the microtransactions at all. Everything from what I’ve read didn’t event hint at it. So I was severely let down when I saw the legendary multiplayer game be treated like this, being treated like any other Freemium game. The worst part is the color schemes. You have to pay for a good chick of them! You can’t earn them in any other way! You can’t even earn in game currency to buy them, like what Anthem did, and when Anthem does something better, that should say something! All in all, I am truly disappointed in this. Other free games does a much better job, and it should not take them time like this anymore. They can easily look at the other dozens of games doing the same thing and see what works and what doesn’t, yet they still pulled all of this. Hell, Game Pass users don’t even get any perks for it! You’d think they would with how badly Microsoft wants everyone to have a sub of it, but there is nothing!
Actually, if you watched the multiplayer overview video that was from the day after E3, specifically Yong plays it at 26:20, the guy says you won't be able to buy stuff in the store that's in the battle pass. So, microtransactions were alluded to, and honestly you shouldn't have been surprised there were going to be mtx in Infinite multiplayer at all because it is FTP, and a game that 343 will be updating for years. So, money has to be made. Especially since the multiplayer and campaign are being viewed by 343 as separate products. But I completely agree with you there are sooooooo many better FTP games that have much better business models. I won't be buying anything until it's at a point that's actually reasonable.
@@gtotheunit91 but was any of it officially announced? Was the microtransaction fully confirmed by someone? If it was, then I missed it somehow. And honestly, they made it sound like it was going to be like the multiplayer in the previous games, that they were going to make it free for everyone while we would have to pay for the single player. There are other games that had free multiplayer added in, such as Ghost of Tsushima. As far as I know, that is all still 100% free. Basically, it sounded like they were making it free just to be nice or to bring some people back after Halo 5, which is why so many people were so shocked and surprised when they saw what it ended up being.
@@KHMDarkness I guess 343 just assumed everyone understood what they were going for when they announced the multiplayer was going to be FTP along with the game having standard FTP things like a battle pass as well as seasons. They very well could have sold it all as one product with adding maybe battle passes and seasons in the multiplayer component, but most automatically knew what business model 343 was going for because that's how many FTP games operate these days. Difference with games like Ghost of Tshushima is that they don't receive constant updates. They're more nice additions to the package, where as Infinite's multiplayer will constantly be receiving updates, new game modes, cosmetics, etc. for years. I know that Legends mode in Ghosts does have a standalone release for $20 though.
@@RobotronSage no, it’s called expecting someone BETTER. Unless you think things should stay as they are where there are more than twice the amount of armors to purchase for ten dollars each in single player games then there are you can earn in it. Saying I’m naive in this case is like saying I should get used to games turning out like this. Also keep in mind this is HALO, it some random free to play FPS. Everyone expected better than this from one of the most iconic Xbox games.
a friend and I have played around 48 hours of the infinite beta, just playing quickplay and not doing challenges of any kind. Our battle pass levels are 3 and 4 respectively.....out of a little over a hundred levels. It's disgusting and a lot of things are locked behind a paywall in order to unlock. It's a joke, and an obvious cash grab. We should have known when they announced multiplayer was going to be released for free, that this was going to be an egregious model where they would try and exponentially increase revenue as opposed to launching the game and multiplayer combined in a one time purchase. No company in modern day is going to be after anything other than money, and even more disheartening is that there will not be a company releasing something with their community in mind outside of small indie dev teams. So sad.
as someone who's new to halo I had a ton of fun when I first started playing. I popped off on a few matches and I was really enjoying the game until I realized I was barely getting any xp because I wasn't using a specific weapon I didn't like, or playing a gamemode I could only get by random chance. that's when I found myself running around hunting down weapons and throwing lives away trying to complete the challenges instead of actually playing the game and having fun. it's really disappointing
thats because u changed ur playstyle. just dont just play to enjoy the game, dont let stupid system ruin that part of the game. The people who made the game and the gameplay probably have nothing to do with these stupid systems. Enjoy the game. im lvl 23 in my bp and havnt once looked at my challenges.
Yep I concur I lost my team a few games trying to get kills with a pulse carbine to complete a challenge which I failed at cause the carbine is absolute garbage more chance of getting kills with a toothpick then that gun
ARMOR CORES are what makes the prices climb so quickly. You get one color for one armor core and have to get that color again for the others! If everything was usable in everything it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. I’d happily pay 20 bucks for the Neko Helmet if it would work on everything. I’d happily pay 20 bucks for my favorite color purple, but as soon as a new core comes out I can’t use my color anymore! Armor core is what needs to change.
What needs to change is the customisation system fully since there's no proper choice for us players we're just told to use what 343 want us to use unlike every other halo game
What I want to know is how gamers can unite and organize coordinated boycotts and have our demands heard. The Fortnite model is ruining games. We need to fight against it.
Speak with our wallet. Just dont give them money, but I get what you are saying, we really need a reddit channel or something where the focus is on shitty companies and how to let them know they need to go get fucked for shitty practices while they lie through thier gold platted teeth.
Should be like CoD's battlepass, rewarding you for just playing, I remember doing no specific challenges and getting to LVL100 by playing zombies alone, minding my own business in a rather quick amount of time.
It's bad, but its not the worst. You can usually find a bunch of rockets or swords around from dead enemies. The get 5 Killjoys is the worst, you've literally got to let the other team get killing sprees. Some of the challenges go completely against actually playing the game properly.
Well, as a player who enjoys customizing my avatar, I don't view cosmetics as "optional". And I'm sick of that one aspect of a game suddenly being the only thing that's monetized and monetized heavily. I don't give a rats ass if the game is "Free to play", I didn't ask for that. I was perfectly happy dropping my required $60 bucks and getting to play the game the way I wanted to play it.
I'll make this simple for the developers. Loosing a match: 50 exp Winning a match: 100 exp Each Medal: 10 exp Kills: 5 exp Completing Challenges: * We will buy the battle pass still even if we complete it in a fast pace. I don't know why they want to make it into a huge grind. And what pisses me off is when I work so hard, and when I level up I get a challenge swap? Imagine grinding, and you level up just to unlock a challenge swap, and not armor. That makes me angry.
343...you need to tell your executives at Microsoft to back off and let you guys have more of the reigns on your own game. If they want their money, they're gonna have to earn it by waiting for a good product. But CEOs is as CEOs does, am I right?
Maybe I’m just an old timer who knew the good times back in 2007 when your money provided the full experience, but I really don’t think there is any good way to monetise additional in game content via battle passes, micro transactions etc via a live service mode. It doesn’t have to be this way. It’s all bullshit, period, and it holds the customer in utter contempt. I’ve tolerated this crap for the last decade while it has infested each and every game genre, but I feel like my patience has finally started to run out. When basic blue is locked behind a premium currency, you have to think to yourself, how little goodwill they must have for the fans, the customers. I know all businesses want to maximise their profits, but these guys really don’t care about providing a product of good value. Push too hard and you risk alienating your customers. I won’t be touching this game with a ten foot barge pole and I’d encourage you to do the same.
As a 28 year old, I get more and more depressed with gaming in general, I can still remember when you could buy a full awesome game with 1 purchase (like you said), I still can't believe how much gaming has changed. I am seriously thinking about giving up on it if something doesn't change, gaming is starting to feel more like a casino.
Vote with your wallets, I’d be willing to put a few bucks down for cosmetics for any game, especially one that I’d be playing a long time. But I am putting ZERO into this game, it’s outrageous how expensive and predatory everything here is
I literally stopped playing after a few days of the MP and I can’t reward Devs with my time nor money if they’re going to bog down how last I level. It’s so slow, that I can gain 10 levels in Apex in 1 hour of play in the time it takes to get ONE level in Infinite.
There is no way you can get 10 levels in Apex on 1 hour. Even if you got 30 kills every game and were a champion you could max get 3 games in. You would get a max of two levels per game.
There is no way you can get 10 levels in Apex on 1 hour. Even if you got 30 kills every game and were a champion you could max get 3 games in. You would get a max of two levels per game.
Its so insulting. And people defend 343 with "what do you mean ? they give you 50xp every match". You can basicly stand in a corner, do nothing, lose the match and be rewarded the same as somebody who plays at a pro level. And the challenges make it even worse cause guess what: nobody is actually playing the objectives to win, everybody just camping infront of weapon or vehicle spawn so they can finish their weeklys. Who thaught this was a good idea
I agree 100%, their justification is the season is like 6 months. So you either have to play your ass off, wait forever, or just funnel money. The entire thing is a trap. They either get your cash, or they get you as a concurrent player which over time, translates to CASH.
I hear ya. Ya know... In this corporate hell scape of runaway capitalism... I expect a lil cancer in my games haha. But this much cancer? Dayum lol they really don't give a shit about us do they? And considering many gamers blindly go along with this obvious wallet rape kinda make me think we deserve to get fucked like this lol.
Lmao'ing at all the 343 fans right now. You did this to yourselves by tolerating Halo 5's REQ system. Now take a look at that massive budget for Infinite and understand that they will have to make that money back. You cheered when Infinite was made free to play. Well, here you go... At least you can have fun in forge, right? ;)
No, this happened a long time ago when people started saying "It is just cosmetics it is fine" in almost every shooter, not just Halo fans. Things won't change if you don't put blame on the right people, those above the devs who force the devs to make it this way. Those that seek to manipulate and make people feel forced to participate in these cycles.
@@Buglin_Burger7878 Fair point but also not a completely accurate point. Many devs are in fucking bed with the corporate elites and literally WANT to lick their bosses boot no matter what. Cut some content and make it paid dlc? Yes boss! Free to play biznass model? Yes master! You honestly think a dick head like cranky ofonner actually cares about the best interests of the customers? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!
So to sum it up: Parasites (Aka the Shareholders and the upper management squad) ruin yet another game and have the developers who worked on the game take the fall?
I heard that game made a major comeback in the second half. I got it on Gamepass a couple weeks ago and it seems pretty good although maybe not very populated anymore.
I really don't get what they're thinking with Halo. Imagining myself as a villain, I understand EA's mindset where they release a game and try to squeeze as much money as possible out of it. But Halo is a 1st party exclusive, so it's not just about making money, it's reason for existing is to convince people to buy an Xbox instead of a Playstation. I'm not saying Sony and Nintendo are saints, but they both seem to tread lightly when it comes to adding microtransactions to their first party games. EA really doesn't risk much when they draw the ire of gamers with their predatory games. But Microsoft risks losing a loyal (hostage?) customer for years if this causes someone not to buy the console.
@@ressljs Microsoft already shot themselves in the foot by adding Halo to PC, so now gamers will soon not even see Xbox as an option since they’re putting their biggest exclusives on PC. When people think of what system to get, it’ll be between Playstation, nintendo, and going PC. Xbox is fucking themselves over
I mean in some ways yes, but at the same time the game is free to play, so I'm a little more willing to put up with a grindwall. But dear God some of the cosmetics in the shop are expensive, $20 smackaroos for a helmet and a color. I would consider buying any of it if they were charging maybe a quarter of what they are.
Service records was one of the coolest parts of Halo 3 back in the day.. meeting a random and checking they're stats to see if their legit.. and being called out for not completing everything on legendary 🙄 😂
For real man, that shit actaully added depth to social multiplayer and was great being able to check ppls stats or recognize different armor that meant that you knew that had done some cool stuff and was a good talking point.
F stop coping, start accepting the truth of the situation. This isn't a game it's a skinnerbox asset flip of Bungies old assets. They even ditched their own in house engine. It's an Unreal Engine asset flip. They ransomwared something as basic as colours. This is indeed a literal scam. It's not even legal under commerce law as it borders on the definition of ransomware.
Also you can still play Halo 3 and Reach. You guys really gotta get rid of this culture of ditching old games just because the ''newer'' version came out. Back in the golden era people would play a good game for literal decades. Quake 3 Arena still to this day being played actively for example.
I played for a few hours with my wife,a couple of friends and was having a good time. Saw my battle pass, saw my rank and was just upset. I probably played more than 10 matches only to have progressed 2 to 3 levels. Not enough XP on these challenges.
A good game destroyed by microtransactions is a greater crime than an unfinished game. The unfinished game can be fixed, but a game designed around xp boosters etc can never be ... its designed that way.
Micro transactions can be fixed as well and I doubt this game will be destroyed. Its slow progression is annoying but not something that will destroy the game forever
Bruh, not even in this case because they could just either 1) make it like Reach or 2) bring down the price of cosmetics so people arent paying DOUBLE DIGITS for fucking armor. Like cmon. And I say that as someone who bought the fucking battle pass.
@@thepassingstatic6268 You bought it, so it's done, now you're juste one more digit in the balance sheet : "See ! See shareholders ! It works, we make a sh!t ton o' money ! Yeah, they cry on Reddit for sure, but they f-ing pay no matter what, so who cares !"
I’m just sad that out of all the lessons they learned. They didn’t learn from 5’s launch playlists and how lacking they were. Going to have to wait 7 months for infection again lol
Especially AAA developers, it's always about making things different, but in the end it's about money and profit. I miss the days when game developers use the quality of their product as the determining factor of whether or not they made profit.
This is the exact reason everyone shouldn't have lied to begin with about how "if your stores only sell cosmetics we don't care locking CONTENT in the shops is the bad thing" blah blah blah. Should have just been straight with these greedy companies from the start, live service games are trash and we don't want them period. Give us back a full complete package game and add in some dlc later if you want more money.
Yup. This whole ''if it isn't literally pay to win we can accept being raped by microsoft guyzx1z!01h4x0rz'' Bro this is literally an asset flip. In the Unreal Engine. You can't even be making this shit up dude they stole Bungies assets and are trying to ''lock'' colours behnd a 20$ ransom. Halo Infinite is ransomware.
it would be such a win for xbox if halo is just good, they dont need to make massive amounts of money on it, just for the word of mouth to be good to really make money back in dividends. Greed shouldnt be the reality for a system selling video game
Free to play games don't have to be crippled by the monetization. I understand that it's very necessary to have some sort of revenue source for a free game, but I hope 343 can improve it later down the line.
They just need to scale it back a bit. They will still make a lot of money. It's a win win. At the moment by being too greedy will put people off and not be willing to play which means never gonna buy any kind of mtx.
@@mephisto40 No its not. The game isn't even on gamepass. The campaign which is on GP doesn't have the mtx because its not free. But the multiplayer is.
Halo Infinite is too good of a game to be weighed down by misguided and greedy decisions. You've got something here 343, for the love of god don't ruin this and implement a more reasonable progression and monetization system before it's too late.

"They should have known better than to release the game in this state."
Oh they knew damn well what they were doing, they're testing to see how badly they can price gouge people before they change it so they can pretend to be consumer friendly.
It's just marketing, they knew exactly what they were doing.
It's the oldest trick in the book, first introduce incredibly grindy and predatory system and then after backlash backtrack to something only slightly less grindy and predatory to seem like you are listening to community without turning off the money faucet.

And people are already AFKing matches because they know that regardless if they win or lose, they get the same amount of exp as everyone else
Update: There is now an update that gives people a total of 1050 exp if you play 7 games EACH day and ONLY each day.
I don't think anyone casually would play 50 matches in one day but still there is a progression cap, and that isn't right in my book.
keep in mind the battlepass is meant to last until like march or april. it’s not meant to be completed in a week.
@@flashpone7910 The battlepass is useless without dropping $20. Screw that. Remember all of the cool armors Halo 3 gave you for just playing?
@@FUNKOfilms The battlepass is useless without dropping money… like every game that has one.
F*cking map packs used to cost $20! The gaming industry is just pure insanity at this point!
At this point I'd rather have paid 60 bucks for one package of campaign and MP and just dish out cash for story expansions. This shit is too whack, and you don't get any incentives for purchasing the campaign, no visor color, no warthog color, no knees. Nothin. Nada. Zilch
@@EstrelSidus a map pack was about 5 bucks in halo 2, then after three months it was free for everyone.
never played path of exile huh?
I will always say that Fortnite is the best free to play game out there as far as micro transactions go.
bingo :/
Bro comparing this to Fortnite doesn't even stack up in the slightest.
Epic Games literally gives the community (and industry) a completely free to use game engine.
Halo was literally asset flipped in the Unreal Engine (Epic games made this engine)
UE 5 is literally the worlds most powerful game engine / renderer.

Yesterday's was nice. The imperial court one but I'm not spending 10 bucks on it since 5 bucks doesn't even get you enough for the daily skins
Probably because older halo games allowed you to unlock everything just by playing the game, now they want you to spend 15 bucks for blue or 15 for green
or just get bp, unlock it over time and enjoy the game until they change it? or just dont...
I mean, that's a little over exaggerated. I've been spending time with the game and I'm pretty satisfied with how my Spartan looks
@@MixtapesOfThe90s at least fornite skins have HUGE BUTTS but halo doesnt so whats the point? Xd

Reach Progression was also cancer. Y'all need to take off your rose colored glasses.
They made it ridiculous and unworkable on purpose so that everyone will sing their praises when they walk some of it back. I see you, Microsoft. I see you. The games industry has run this play too many times for me to fall for it anymore.

By doing that they recognized that the term beta has lost most of its meaning so they used the flights for the gameplay based feedback and this beta for the feedback for the malicious mtx
hahahahahahahahahahahahah
This is a ransomware skinnerbox that stole Bungies hard work so they could asset flip it in an unfinished Unreal Engine tech demo.

Let that sink in guys.
This isn't Halo. Halo is dead and corporatism killed it.
They didn't even bother with their ''own'' engine (because they don't know how to fucking use it lmao)
The worst thing is that people still use this excuse on the reddit when literally the blogpost posted by 343 themselves straight up says that this is the full game. They have a point asking "Why is this a beta" and the answer is literally "Because we need to test server capacity but this is the official start with all maps and modes and the microtransaction store is fully functional!" That Beta label is complete bullshit meant to defend against criticism. Sadly it works, because when you try to tell people this they get absurdly defensive on 343's behalf.
Betas are just excuses for the devs to be lazy and to pretend they care about the game, whenever a beta comes out that’s usually the final game.
But they also said it's everything that'd be at launch, so it's even more frustrating
Ahh the classic cheap excuse "the beta" so many games have said that over the years and we end up getting the same results
In my opinion, Reach's progession was a bit slow but still better than this.

The main reason (seemingly) that Infinite's multilayer went F2P was to bring in new players, but instead it seems to be warding people off because no one wants to put in this excessive grind to unlock anything good.

And unfortunately I was right
But joe it a free to play game
@Itch-HeSay I know it can be done well, but the track record of AAA F2P games is almost universally bad in recent years
@Itch-HeSay Free to play is not a necessity. Where are you getting this nonsense that a game can't "last" more than a month otherwise?
Predicting that a F2P game is going to be plagued with MTX is like predicting water is going to be wet.
It all comes down to common sense.
@Itch-HeSay Warframe does Free to Play right.

They never promised no microtransactions?

-Limited customization [Locking colours to armour types is absurd]
-Drip fed rewards [unlocking colours at all is absurd]
-MicroTransactions [$10 to unlock this "season" to grind rewards]
-Timed Events that can't be completed in they limited window
The worst offense [as many have stated] is the battle-pass; of the 168 total unlocks 72 are colours, challenge swaps or EXP boosts.
That's 72 slots that could be removed to increase the number of customization items or decrease the overall grind of the pass.
Yes the base is free but if you want to unlock really anything or play the campaign you're dropping money.
The fact that this is so piecemeal and lacking compared to the systems in place for Halo: Reach at launch is appalling consider Reach came out in 2010 [11 years ago]
Seriously, the gameplay is fun but the sheer amount of scum and muck dripping from this is horrid.
Just buy the MCC for the same price as the battlepass.

However, I wish more would talk about how unstable the game is for a lot of people.

I don't wanna be that guy, over and over again Yong, but the b.s. modern way to game, from what I had watched on The Act Man's latest video, is pretty much because of the Battle Pass issue for all, and it is clearly showing, time & time again.

Microtransactions are bad kids.
Don't fall for the scam, lead yourselves towards the grind.

@Beaverish Buck Teeth true
I see a lot of people creating mock-ups and asking for a coating system like at 18:43 in the video.
This is something that is actually possible. I created an ACTUAL functioning prototype and uploaded a video called "HALO INFINITE Color Customization prototype"
It allows players to use the coating as a color map (for how colors are applied), gives the ability to pick colors, textures, materials, patterns, etc.
Remembering the good old days when you earned cosmetics from campaign Easter eggs and by simply leveling up in the multiplayer.

"Halo multiplayer is free"
Most people: Wow, awesome!
People who actually know what "free to play" means: Yeah, ain't got enough money in my wallet for that shit.
I miss the times where you could buy games and unlock everything in it without spending absurd amounts of cash...

Unless you think things should stay as they are where there are more than twice the amount of armors to purchase for ten dollars each in single player games then there are you can earn in it.

a friend and I have played around 48 hours of the infinite beta, just playing quickplay and not doing challenges of any kind.

343...you need to tell your executives at Microsoft to back off and let you guys have more of the reigns on your own game. If they want their money, they're gonna have to earn it by waiting for a good product. But CEOs is as CEOs does, am I right?
They got that with a year delay. They probably scared to even ask for anything else.

I agree 100%, their justification is the season is like 6 months. So you either have to play your ass off, wait forever, or just funnel money. The entire thing is a trap. They either get your cash, or they get you as a concurrent player which over time, translates to CASH.

Xbox is fucking themselves over
No.
Nowadays cry babies call that bullying. But that's what made it so great
@@spicy518 Forreal. Eventually those voices fueled my legendary run.. took me 5 hours to complete cortana but I did it 😆
For real man, that shit actaully added depth to social multiplayer and was great being able to check ppls stats or recognize different armor that meant that you knew that had done some cool stuff and was a good talking point.

stop coping, start accepting the truth of the situation.
Don't forget that all the unlockables are only equippable to one specific armor
LAME af... They said it would be like reach. That sounds pretty UNLIKE halo reach but whatever 343...
I played for a few hours with my wife,a couple of friends and was having a good time. Saw my battle pass, saw my rank and was just upset. I probably played more than 10 matches only to have progressed 2 to 3 levels. Not enough XP on these challenges.
Make things worse is how they overlapped the challenges for the event with the other bp system.
Waiting till March for co-op and forge :(
@@ls200076 May for coop. Forge will be season 3
Especially AAA developers, it's always about making things different, but in the end it's about money and profit. I miss the days when game developers use the quality of their product as the determining factor of whether or not they made profit.
I miss Gamespy.
Steam literally ruined video gaming in general.
Microsoft dealt the killing blow.
I am so done with this shit.
Yup. This whole ''if it isn't literally pay to win we can accept being raped by microsoft guyzx1z!01h4x0rz''
Bro this is literally an asset flip. In the Unreal Engine. You can't even be making this shit up dude they stole Bungies assets and are trying to ''lock'' colours behnd a 20$ ransom.
Halo Infinite is ransomware.
This is illegal
Look up the definition of ransomware.
it would be such a win for xbox if halo is just good, they dont need to make massive amounts of money on it, just for the word of mouth to be good to really make money back in dividends.
Unfortunately this is the effect of Microsofts game pass has on triple A developers games, they are forced to do this to actually make any money back
@@mephisto40 SO basically Microsoft cucks 343 which in term makes 343 cuck us. How wonderful the circle of cuckery goes..lol.
@@mephisto40 No its not. The game isn't even on gamepass.
The campaign which is on GP doesn't have the mtx because its not free. But the multiplayer is.
