It's important to understand that it's the people who control the CEOs, the game investors, that set the tone and therefore the environment in the company Look at every company that invested in Activision and you'll have a list of people *actually* responsible for the environment at Activision

Back in the '00s Michael Eisner was eventually removed as CEO of Disney because of a no confidence shareholder vote that I actually participated in, and that started as a very small movement that I followed from the beginning. It took a couple years, but eventually that small movement amassed more and more support from the public which drew in MORE shareholders, and that led to Eisner being ousted in 2005. Just because it's a minority of shareholders at the moment doesn't mean it's going to remain a minority.
I see. So basically Kotick is on his way out the door no matter what he tries to do or say to stay as CEO. Good to know. I'll be watching this story closely from YongYea and even try to participate in the movement however I can. I want to be a game designer in the future, and Robert "Bobby" Kotick is one of many who truly give game developers a bad name in this industry. I hope, figuratively speaking, that he gets everything and the kitchen sink thrown at him and his crumbling career. If I was being accused of such things and there was mounting evidence backing up those claims, I not only would have resigned in disgrace, but I would never show my face in the games industry again outside of actually playing video games, and just disappeared from public eyes as best I could. This is what Kotick needs to consider doing, but he's too much of a greedy, vindictive and quite frankly dangerous person to even think about something so preposterous.
@@SonicPrimus I wouldn't go _that_ far just yet since the stockholder number is so small at the moment, but what I _am_ saying is even though Yong doesn't seem to think that means much if anything, it absolutely _can_ and has before. There's a very good chance that minority will steadily grow, especially since I'd be willing to bet money that we haven't even heard the worst of it yet with a guy this slimy. Basically what we need to hope for is their stock price tanking. THAT will mobilize the rest of the stockholders into ousting him, if THEY start losing money. Money rules all. That's ultimately what did Michael Eisner in; I wanted him out on principle because of what he was doing to the parks and the people I knew who were being hurt by it as cast members and that's what really made the movement start. Once the stock price started tanking because of his actions, it made our numbers against him grow exponentially. It would honestly surprise me if good ol' Bobby actually _plays_ any videogames himself. That's cool that you want to get into game development; I went to Ringling for Illustration and Game Design is one of their majors. I also did all the artwork for an educational reading PC game called "Reading Rescue Force" yeeeeeears ago that was developed by a company my Computer Animation major roommate actually started after graduating, so I definitely have a soft spot for game developers. The things that get blamed on them are monstrous and I really wish more of the wider gaming public understood that they largely don't have any control over what they produce; they just do what their directors tell them to do no matter how shitty the outcome, like the poor devs at CDPR.😒
Does Bobby realize that when you are the CEO of a company, YOU are responsible for what happens in that company? Cause he doesn't seem to realize that the entire world is against him now but he's acting like nothing is happening.
I remember reading an article At a certain point for these CEOs it becomes all about amassing as much net worth as possible. Like a competition with a leaderboard. It stops being about the product or the customer or shareholders even.
It's not the worst strategy actually. It's a deflecrion tactic of sorts. "If I pretend everything is fine maybe it will convince others of that too." It's similar to how two guys in jumpsuits can walk into a building while carrying a latter and people just let them in, even if no one ordered maintenance. With that said this strategy works better on smaller offenses and not when you're company is going up in smoke.
@@arx3516 As someone who HAS been in his shoes (legally speaking, I have never threatened to kill someone or sexually assaulted nor instigated assault), yes, I would face the fire and take responsibility. I was fully aware that if I fought it and ignored it, I would have walked free. My morals prevent me from becoming such a worthless husk of a human being like him. By going through the legal system, I was changed by it. My values were changed and I was more focused on being a better person than I was before. Finally, some good news! A lot of people are too quick to forget these things as "one-time controversies" with nothing ever actually changing. We need to REMEMBER what these corporations have done and hold them accountable. Whether that be through social media, or boycotting them altogether. I personally have made sure that all my copies of Activision games are now either pirated or obtained from a key-seller since that actively harms the companies. I'd rather pay a criminal $10 to steal their game for me than give $60 to significantly more evil people.
At this point, Bobby must have dirt on everyone on that broad at Activision They are still defending this devil and yet, with a smile saying “We understand all the criticism, but Bobby is here to stay!”

The reason for the distancing is that they probably knew about the rampant abuses in the company for at least the last decade but those microtransactions heavy games with the DLC meant their cut of Activision's digital sales on the Xbox and PlayStation store would have been a significant percentage of their revenue so they turned a blind eye until it could no longer be ignored
@Urazz when you're a multi billion dollar multinational who's a major investor in another high profile multi billion dollar multinational you have a surprisingly large amount of direct power over the latter, this is because American corporate law gives shareholders insane level of power over the companies invested in If Microsoft, Sony, and the others actually gave a toss about this they'd have demanded internal and independent investigations into the allegations and rumors. The main thing that I learned is that change comes being within the rot itself. Its one thing to have multiple people protesting on something and nothing getting done and another where someone within Activision Blizzards own inner circle shows the exact emotions the protestors are feeling. But here's the main problem. If you are that person you've now outed yourself on being in on all of this happening and risk dismay from not only the public but from your own directors and investors who would then know your true colors. Even if it was a facade to get everyone on your favor you risk your own chance to follow through with the change that was promised.
Pretty sure that unless a demotion is involved, there are laws banning pay being lowered. Which, of course, is why scummy companies like Actiblizz regularly do fires and rehires to get around tihs law.

They most likely have legal contracts that would prevent them from doing this. Most legal contracts are not rendered invalid unless specific conditions for breaking it occur. I doubt one of those conditions is the CEO and higher-ups being scum.
Same here, like I said before a few minutes ago: I haven’t watched the video fully but if that was the case then why couldn’t they just not allow activision games to be on their systems anymore for now and beyond until the entire executive board is gone and replaced by better ones.
@@Overqualification it's the one series that sells the most for them, tell me other 5 Activision-Blizzard games that generate as much money as CoD annually.

I havent bought an Activision game since I heard about this for the first time and I won't ever again. People need to do this. This is what really makes the difference.
Ethical consumption is virtually impossible. Activision's big games are mostly lazy reskins with pretty graphics, so you'd think it wouldnt be hard to just stop buying them, but ppl are too obsessed with CoD as a brand. Too many streamers/content creators cant exist without it, too many ppl see it as the marquee shooter on the market and want to avoid the FOMO of seeing others playing it w/o them. It's a self-sustaining thing at this point, the quality of the games could sharply drop off (like we're seeing with many of EA's annual titles) and ppl will still buy it every time the new one comes out for years to come.
It's not up to us, it's investors/shareholders and governing bodies to put pressure on and change the company from the inside. I've not bought Cod for the past couple years but next year damn right I'm getting MW2, sequel to MW 2019.
I think it's also because of the mentality the current cod community have today. There are moderators for the discord server and subreddit who blindly defend the latest game in the series regardless of it's qualities and censor their subreddit from negative posts such as the ban bug from earlier this year

While Acti/Bliz is headquartered in California they are incorporated in Delaware. There are many reasons so many US companies incorporate in Delaware but one is that it gives management more powers/rights relative to shareholders than some other states. Hence why the board are quite servile to Kotick and why it is so tough for shareholders to get management out.
OOO they said ‘embattled’! Don’t know if it’s the same anywhere else, but at least in Australian politics being called ‘embattled’ by the press is the death knell of your career. Politicians have recovered from ‘beleaguered’, but not ‘embattled’. Hope the trend holds up in bizpol/gamepol too.

Remember when Bobby was upset people would draw devil horns on his photos and he complained as it would show up when people googled him? Simpler times.
Let's be real: They're likely shaming Bobby's actions is because he's beginning to draw too much attention to how workers in gaming companies get treated, especially women & they're trying to get rid of him before it leads to something bigger, like a mass walkout from every company at the same time
When everyone's parents were telling them they'd never make a living playing videogames, what they neglected to mention is that you totally can if you sell your soul.
Of course, the videogame company denies all knowledge and responsibility when there's a PR issue going on, if it can happen with every broken and unfinished mess of a game, then it can happen with their own workers. The amount of correlations they have with this case is baffling, to be honest... they "apologized to their consumers" and "Promised to do better" only for them to release the same broken unfinished game next year just like how they "Apologised to their workers" and "Promised to do better" only for them to continue the harassment, what a disgrace.
I am 100% with Jim Sterling on this one. This company is rotten to the core. You can't fix rot - you can only kill it This man and his company and companies like Ubisoft are cancer of this industry. I've been on a Activision Boycott for awhile now. My stance has always been the same since I started it, no money from me until kotick is out and replaced by someone who can prove to hold basic standards
Another UA-cam channel has said that Kotick’s contract grants him an obscene severance package if he is fired. If he quits, presumably that package is not granted. He’s not going anywhere willingly, and he clearly does not care if he destroys the company.
The best part about all of this is that if the people came together and stopped buying anything from acti-blizz, from games to skins, we would make an impact

I'm sorry but until they stop all buisness relations with Activision I'm not going to congratulate anyone.
"Who only spoke to when Activision was caught" ??? Wtf is this even supposed to mean? Is phil Spencer supposed to know what happens behind closed doors in a company he has no ties to?
And now Nintendo and Doug Bowser has joined PS/Jim Ryan and XB/Phil Spencer. That's three for three. Pressure is building to a bursting point. Kotick NEEDS to go, else ActiBlizz burns down completely.
ohhhhh PLEEEASE! The only reason why they are 'tired' of him is because he became liability... and because they want to show they are on the side of 'the people' which they are not! They pretend to care but deep down inside... they are rotten as he is!
And when his abuses, his cover ups, and his hunger for power became known to more and more people, the demands to do something about this outrageous man became louder and louder.
I get the feeling that ActiBlizz might (no guarantee, so more of of hope) start losing a lot of employees to Sony and Microsoft, as well as two less platforms for their games. No guarantee it'll actually happen, but, if things keep going this way, it just might happen.
This Bobby Kotick saga just goes to show how morally bankrupt the gaming industry is. And you expect them to make correct consumer decisions like, having a bug free game, stable frame rates, not cutting basic content to sell as base, special & ultimate editions. Adding rubbish limitations to sell as DLC obvious things like inventory space or simply colors for customization. This is why games are a garbage money grabbing exercise.
@@TheSilverShadow17 lol no it's the financial industry. I'd if it were a competition on which industry is more morally bankrupt finance would win every time.

I remember reading an article
At a certain point for these CEOs it becomes all about amassing as much net worth as possible.
Like a competition with a leaderboard. It stops being about the product or the customer or shareholders even.
CEOs never need to take responsibility, ever since the solemn .jpg announcement they've simply apologised then hid it better

Oh man, I wonder how many products you consume from morally bankrupt companies? It's probably a lot more than you know.

I remember he made a video a year or so back saying "fire bobby kotick" or something. i guess it may come true.
Oh yeah, I can't wait to see what they say about this. I always look forward to them ragging on Bobby Kotick and Activision.
That guy is still making videos? He is a man who hates him some bobby kotick.
You know you screwed up when both consoles companies you make games are against you.
The shareholders will have the CEO's throats should they say or do anything that could compromise CoD contracts with their respective brand.
I love how they keep saying shareholders are silent when they’ve lost 40% of them in 6 months at this rate they’ll go bankrupt in a year or two
ok a question occurred to me, Jen was the leader of an entire studio, ybarra ran only a section of Blizzard, HOW IN THE FUCK WAS SHE MAKING LESS TO START WITH? SHES HIGHER UP IN THE FOOD CHAIN THAN HIM TO START WITH!!! WHEN THEY MOVED HER TO COLEAD OF BLIZZARD IT WAS THE SAME JOB SHE ALREADY HAD!!!
What a selfless and brave move to trash a company in a PR nightmare in order to salvage their own reputations, I'm so impressed by these morally upstanding companies who spoke up only when Activision was caught.
I'm sorry but until they stop all buisness relations with Activision I'm not going to congratulate anyone.
They might a little bit down the line, if Kotick doesn't leave and things only get worse for Activision-Blizzard.
Smart mindset.
"Who only spoke to when Activision was caught" ??? Wtf is this even supposed to mean? Is phil Spencer supposed to know what happens behind closed doors in a company he has no ties to?
BINGO
How was Sony /XBox supposed to know about this before it went public?
Yeah yeah they criticize but unless they DO something this means nothing, just a chance for good PR.
Yes and what can they do? The least they can do is pull the games from their stores later down the line.
Morally bankrupt but still the biggest industry on the planet
@@TheSilverShadow17 lol no it's the financial industry. I'd if it were a competition on which industry is more morally bankrupt finance would win every time.
@@SpectatingBystander That alone does not stop people from continuing to invest in games as a way to escape reality other than movies
I get a feeling more situations such as this will happen to other game companies.
Why is activision/blizzard still a thing? the employees must quit en mass and make their own studio. What a fucked up place to work at.
Now the devil horn additions to Kotick's portraits are more than valid. He earned them.
Seems like holding one man accountable would not be enough - is like a culture deeply rooted in the company, all levels. Get whole united gang out😅
Remember when bobby kotick whinged about how gamers making him out to be the devil was ruining his "dating"... Can he see why now?
I hope Sony and Microsoft follow up.
Sadly in situations like these you'll always need the people in power to shift things into the common peoples wants.
Now I wonder if Sony and Microsoft will put their money where their mouth is and push back against supporting their games.
You said “he knows how to make money”. Shareholders don’t care how the staff are treated, as long as there dividends go up. He won’t be going anywhere
