    This how to is awesome. Explaining what size tools to use and including the torque specs during reassembly helped tackling the job on my 2017 Passat go much smoother than it would have otherwise. Thanks!

      Looks like there are two types of axle bolts (ribbed and non ribbed) as per VW workshop manual. For ribbed bolts, it is 70nm + 90° and non ribbed it is 200nm + 180°. Below is what manual states for non ribbed:
      Have second mechanic apply brakes.
      - Tighten twelve-point bolt to 200 Nm.
      - Lower vehicle onto its wheels.
      - Turn twelve-point head bolt 180° further

    Axle bolt is TTY, should replace them
