I keep trying, at 44, despite what others say, in spite of responsibilities, in spite of genetic & mental factors. Good video, Grant. You'll always be triggering some people 😂
This is the type of clarity that comes not by any book, lecture or anything external.... But when you are in a complete journey within yourself. Your articulation was too good.
I’m glad you recognised that man and I agree! It occurred to me that all of this stuff that I like talking about I speak about it intuitively through experience
@@grantstevensma true! But like most things online, context is lacking haha I say I’m constantly failing, only because I’m aware of this fact AND pick myself up, dust off and try, try again. Failing to me isn’t a bad thing per se, it’s the actions taking after that speak volumes of ones character I think. Anyone can feck up, it’s what you do with that moment, that counts! Without an awareness of what’s going wrong, we can’t bring around growth or adaptation to the barriers within oneself (negative mindset or excuse making) My comment was a reflection on how my old mindset held me down and impeded my growth. Cheers for the reply legend 🤙🏻
Some really great insight and advice like always Grant, I’m 42 with 3 young children and your right Grant, it’s no excuse to stop you from trying to better yourself as a martial artist and human being, I’m reminded of that all the time
Grant, thank you for your perspective. I struggle with distraction and departure from my vision as a martial artist. You have been a reminder for me to reorient towards a higher vision of self while I am surrounded by distraction and “sucked in” to so many competing priorities.
💯 bro it happens to me all the time as well but it can be very hard to recognise unless you’re working at developing your self awareness constantly. Too easy to get sucked in
For me, my physical practice (mainly martial arts) is also philosophical or even spiritual. As such, this video really resonated with me. I LOVE your content that hits those spots because most western creators are of the hustle type and don't talk much about the self-discovery and deeper aspects of training martial arts. Keep it up man! Thank you for another banger of a video.
Thank you very much! And I’m in unanimous agreement with you on that. It is spiritual… or it becomes that way when you’ve become very experienced in it
When I was in my 30-40's. I played pool. I was up at 4:30 am and have practiced 3-4 hours before I had to get the kids off to school. 4 children under 5 years of age, 3 in their teens, 7 children altogether. A partner who needs looking after. I also worked 8- 10 hours during the week and all the rest of it. I played 2-3 hours at night before going to bed. For nearly 6 years i only missed days when i wasn't home, and with that amount of children we barley went on holidays. I am now in my 50's and can run multiple racks and play a "zen" like game being lost in the flow of just doing something that just happens to you rather than something I am doing. I don't play competitions, I very rarely go to the pubs and poolhalls I have nothing to prove and love the game in every aspect. I do it for me!!! Perfection WILL follow. Videos like this I personal think are very important to people who need to hear it. There are no excuses or reasons that you can't be better tomorrow than what you are today. I know this has nothing to do with martial arts, but it is who I was and still do to this day. As Grant stated, I decided I was a good pool player it only took 30 years to happen.
Nice to hear people saying these things. Thanks for posting. I've known too many martial arts teachers who keep preaching discipline in martial arts to a bunch of kids who don't have a clear way of knowing what they're getting into.
I followed you for martial arts but now I do it for the life lessons. Becoming good at anything has the same fundamental components. Lots of RESPECT for you mate!
Fantastic overview of shifting paradigms. Belief/Internal change opens the door. Effort walks you through it. Hard to go through the door when it is closed.
Grant you're the first person I've heard say that doesn't believe in discipline. It's something I've been questioning a lot throughout my life. I found that by shifting the focus to “flowing” with things that I feel the energy is available for, or that I feel connected to, you get a totally different outcome. Totally true your statement, when something is extremely clear, when you got that insight, you don't need the discipline, it's just there, and you do it. Loved the video, I connected a lot, same with your content on UA-cam, and TG! Thank you, and keep up the great work man! *Hilarious the video of the Brazilian guy getting slapped with the band, had to look it up! 😂
Thanks brother, I think that it hits differently when somebody says it, who actually has results, and in a lot of cases results that are far greater than the hustle mindset people. This is what I wanna get across to people is essentially, 'if the discipline approach is the only viable option, then how have I been able to do what I can do?' Everything has it's place but ultimately, I believe this is a higher level way of looking at it. Glad to see the content resonating my man! ✌
I hate you , my skipping ropes too heavy and you dont know what its like ... Made perfect sense to me .... For anyone struggling to get into fitness everytime you do a workout ...'Its 1 more than you had done yesterday ... !!!' Everytime you want to skip a workout tell yourself that and remember this is a snow ball effect ...not a 1 time solution ... 1 more than yesterday .... 1 more than yesterday .... They soon add up ....HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE!LFG!!!!😃
10:21 wow man that really is true man I feel that exact same way after watching this vid I realize I was subconsciously doing that recently raising my standards man visioning it all and watching the people I’m inspired just adds fuel to my already lit fire of dedication and improvement in me and the video definitely made sense to me!!! Its just my mind is in a whole nother realm man any time I lapse eat junk food or not getting good sleep it bothers me a lot it’s like a mosquito man. But I’m super grateful for the vid I’m learning & growing everyday ! I feel like I’m entering a new level I feel like Ive finally went from level 1 to level 2! Dope New York sweater btw I got a black New York hoodie it’s fire ☝🏽😩
It makes very much sense my friend. Because in this way your training becomes more sustainable. If stress levels are low the benefits are enormous in general quality of life. You highlight the necessity of giving time to ourselves to find something that makes more sense in our life, which is a taboo by the grind grind grind point of view which excludes many other dimensions of life (not diminishing here the hard work required to get to a certain level). Active searching and experimentation as well as giving time to yourself, when you see the signs in you that is needed, are all vital elements for navigating this life with interest, joy and revealing your authentic self. Life is not meant to be a chore to get done with it. An interesting topic for a possible future video could be the idea of getting in tune with yourself and how to ''listen'' to these signs your self (physically or mentally) is giving to you. Moving to a more intuitive way of living. Thanks again for the nice video and effort. I enjoyed a lot watching you train and the drop of Dragon Ball scenes. I wish you vitality and inspiration ;)
💯 man! The grind mentality I believe is an old, dying and becoming more and more irrelevant model. It was more applicable in the past, but as the consciousness of the planet shifts it’s not a one size fits all anymore… and the thing for me is I look at peoples results. If it was the only way to get results those people would be the most successful in all fields but they simply aren’t. You said it perfectly with ‘life is not meant to be a chore to get done with’. Really appreciate the comment and thank you for the content suggestions also 🤙🏼
Having the will, then concisely set your self up so you exceed your own expectations, and keep repeating that In all areas in your life. From what I gathered, you aim to make that your ‘default’ 💯 This video is different to your usual stuff and it’s great to understand the philosophy and psychology behind why you do, what you do. Would love more of these kinds of videos. I like these insights 💯 Great stuff Grant 🚀
Yeah honestly this is my favourite type of content to make because I feel like I get to share the sort of cutting edge realisations I come to on my journey. So you can expect more of this kind of thing
WOW Grant You put it and said it so well Bro Thanks! I never understood why was i getting always so fast bored 🥱 Anything what you want to achieve in life, one needs a vision. Normally, you don't even need Discipline or motivation if is a pleasure.

As someone who is constantly failing, I resonate with how a mindset can affect your reality 🤙🏻
Your statement says it all Samuel 'As someone who is constantly failing'. First step is to stop saying that type of shit right now!
@@grantstevensma true! But like most things online, context is lacking haha

100% brother! It's not about replicating what I do and I would never suggest that. It's about being your own best version and anyone can do that.
Grant,
thank you for your perspective.

Great coaching. take your country back lads.
Not to worry Grant, indeed, you expressed this concept with fine eloquence.
Here's a possible conclusion that might resonates - "Know Thyself".
