Hi Ben, that's a great update! The Bachman shunter is fantastic, quite a good find. It looks very detailed and good quality. I suppose the driver has been added by the previous owner? It's a great addition! I can see why you like the BR blue locomotives. It's a nice livery. As for the cheaper shunter: at first I thought it's another of these 4999 versions on the plastic standard chassis with the type 7 motor. But as you said that it is in metal, it will probably of better quality and the locomotive might very well be a good runner. I think you very well upgraded the Coca Cola version. Closing the cab with cardboard is a good improvement and the black paint around the windows is a superb idea for giving the illusion of flush glazing. Also highlighting details and very nice weathering adds very much to the better finish of this basic model. Your paintwork also seems very precise and spot on. Maybe adding a driver could further improve the model. As for your new red shunter: I would consider to remove the logo and add a transfer. However, make sure you try any product you would use for removing the RR-logo first on the inside of the red body, so you will have an idea how the paint and plastic will react. For instance alcohol will remove the printed logo easily, but might damage the paintwork by making it a bit lighter and shiny. It depends from the concentration of alcohol and the paint of the plastic body. Of course, painting this shunter in BR green might be an option too. It would do great in BR green and with the second crest, I think. Have a nice, hopefully not super hot summerday! Cheers 🙋♂ Erik
I think the Bagnall shunter does have a cheap motor - no idea why they went for a die cast chassis, it goes give the model more of a quality feel. I really want to remove the RR RailRoad logos - it's something I am always a bit wary of doing as there seems to be no agreed way to remove decals. It's a good idea to first use the solvent on the inside of the body to check for the effects. A nice project for cooler days!
