I decided that this modelling project went too badly, so I'm trying to get it off my desk as soon as possible. Sorry for the strobing light, I won't use this LED lamp again for filming. And sorry for the sound of car horns at the end!

Looks very good, doesn't it?
At a distance 😋😋
Cool 👍 By the way, just an idea, you could have a Metcalfe station building on a piece of cardboard with a small lawn, a few trees and a piece of road and put it next to the track on the floor when you are running trains. And building these Metcalfe kits is great fun. 😊
Hi Ben, it looks like an old, weathered car. As it is now, not bad I think. I would not use a gloss varnish though, because that might strengthen the unevenness of the paint. And old neglected cars are seldom shiny. Thanks for sharing this video!
Hi Erik, I am using the varnish to protect the paint and decals from the enamel wash. It's true though that the finish might look weird. So far I have just done the underside of the model with the gloss varnish - will see how bad it looks tomorrow. If the gloss varnish does not work, I can always finish the model off with some spray matt varnish - though that means I will have to mask the windows... I am really trying to finish this project off this weekend!
@ In Action they have the same cheap varnish in matt finish. But spraying is probably better.
@@railway187 Ah I might go looking for that on Monday. I just checked the gloss varnish I painted on the underside - it looks wet!
Love the one with the franco Cristi boiler
Мухоморы, те получше будут!))🍄😅👍
Oh, a 9f with the franco-crosti boiler! I don't know they made models of them
Cute
Beautiful locomotive! Wow 🤩
соо|❤
Looks a bit wrong with the smoke deflectors much nearer the cab if I’m honest.
I read that there was a problem with this arrangement with a side wind - the steam and smoke would enter the driver's cabin
Good night friend🎉❤😊
Cool coincidence 👍 I adore teak coaches, it's a pity they were never produced in H0-scale. Enjoy your new additions to the collection!
Another odd coincidence is that Alex over at Beaglington-on-sea was just working on exactly the same three coaches as I have...
"Industrial"
I guess calling it a Fizzy Pop Train Set didn't go down so well with marketing...
What a delicious train set. I adore the locomotive and the 7-plank open wagon has great potential too. I am looking forward to seeing what you will do with this set: a little touch of paint here and there, some Press Fix decals, a bot of landscape around the track 🙂👍 thanks for sharing this video!
I was certainly thinking about weathering the chassis - when it's all black you see no detail at all. Some trees in the background would probably work better than books 😁
@@ben222b A backdrop can do miracles too. Gaugemaster has affordable backdrops. And Faller, Vollmer... slightly more expensive but a bit larger too. Another free trick is to film your layout in front of a white or lightblue wall. And if you have a balcony with northern orientation (no heavy sunlight ) than filming the layout on the balcony can be a great effect too. Live background 🙂
This tail lights look great 👍 something I should try to implement too
These are factory fitted - "Fleischmann 5318 gesloten goederenwagen met sluitlicht"
Nice 👍
Great locomotive 🤩👍
Hi Ben, that's a great update! The Bachman shunter is fantastic, quite a good find. It looks very detailed and good quality. I suppose the driver has been added by the previous owner? It's a great addition! I can see why you like the BR blue locomotives. It's a nice livery. As for the cheaper shunter: at first I thought it's another of these 4999 versions on the plastic standard chassis with the type 7 motor. But as you said that it is in metal, it will probably of better quality and the locomotive might very well be a good runner. I think you very well upgraded the Coca Cola version. Closing the cab with cardboard is a good improvement and the black paint around the windows is a superb idea for giving the illusion of flush glazing. Also highlighting details and very nice weathering adds very much to the better finish of this basic model. Your paintwork also seems very precise and spot on. Maybe adding a driver could further improve the model. As for your new red shunter: I would consider to remove the logo and add a transfer. However, make sure you try any product you would use for removing the RR-logo first on the inside of the red body, so you will have an idea how the paint and plastic will react. For instance alcohol will remove the printed logo easily, but might damage the paintwork by making it a bit lighter and shiny. It depends from the concentration of alcohol and the paint of the plastic body. Of course, painting this shunter in BR green might be an option too. It would do great in BR green and with the second crest, I think. Have a nice, hopefully not super hot summerday! Cheers 🙋♂ Erik
I think the Bagnall shunter does have a cheap motor - no idea why they went for a die cast chassis, it goes give the model more of a quality feel. I really want to remove the RR RailRoad logos - it's something I am always a bit wary of doing as there seems to be no agreed way to remove decals. It's a good idea to first use the solvent on the inside of the body to check for the effects. A nice project for cooler days!
Diesel 10
Last week I purchased the same H0 couche (without box) on a swap meet here in the Netherlands. It was on a table with other rolling stock. Every piece only € 4,- They are hard to find. And some traders on Ebay know this and ask insane money for it. Btw. The examples from Lima in 00 scale are much easier to find.
Indeed, prices for rare items where there is low demand can be either very low or very high...
Congratulations on your purchase. I sometimes camouflaged scratches with a very fine brush and a watery acrylic paint solution. However, I think these crimson and cream could be difficult to find... Anyway, in real life coaches are also not always immaculate. Great addition to your collection!
Great finds! These teak carriages are fantastic, I wish they would be available in H0. The Pullman has white linings on the wheels: this is something I am used to from Soviet rolling stock, I didn't know that this is done in the UK too. Have a nice Sunday evening! Greetings 🙋♂️ Erik
HI Erik, I am not sure how realistic the white rimmed wheels are. A quick search says they are not historically accurate. In my mind they are associated with Pullman coaches, though these LNER teaks also have the white edged wheels. Greetings, Ben
Hi Ben, this is a nice result anyway! I would not dare to start building these sort of kits, the appartment is already filled with model trains, I don't want to risk my marriage 🤗🙂😊😁 As for the paintwork: do you use paint from Action? I used that one but then started using Vallejo since brush lines are less visible (it's watery but still fixing very well to the plastic). The brushes from Action are great though!
Hi Erik, yes I bought a lot of craft materials from Action, and I think that's the problem with the paint. From now on I will buy proper modelers paints. There is a very good model shop in the south of Brussels - Tracks and Wings - where the owner is really helpful and friendly. I will go there for better quality supplies. I think he is the last proper modelling store left in Brussels 😟
@@ben222b My father uses Action paints for his model railway: it is OK for retouching treed of grass flocking (with added water), but for painting plastic figures it's less ideal.
Congratulations on your latest purchases! The 4-wheel tankers are beautiful. The design may be old, but they are beautifully painted. The M4 is interesting. But of course you kept the most interesting part for the end 😊 the autocoach is delightful. It's a great design and the model had a great finish. I am sure you can fix these minor defects. Does that steam loco come from 2dehands?
The tanks are nicely finished and the liveries are well applied, unlike my 1977 acquisition, but there are obvious lines where the two halves of the bodyshell are glued together. Indeed the 14XX 0-4-2 loco comes from the 2dehands seller Bailly. He has several examples of the same model still on sale.
@@ben222b There's a sale on some OO steam locomotives at the German online reseller. His prices are sometimes lower than in the UK, it seems. It's tempting 🫣🤗 again... 😁
Great coaches!
Looks like new now! 👍
Great result 👍
Very interesting rolling stock, well found.
Those are some great finds!
Hi Ben, great find! These riggeted bogies are not to difficult to remove. I have removed them from my MK1 coaches. I am looking forward to seeing your upgrades on these new purchases! Cheers 🙋♂️ Erik
Interesting rolling stock. I like this rebranding of wagons, Lima did it all the time, and by the way Piko is still doing it nowadays. And I like to do it myself, sovietizing European rolling stock 😊 Great video!
Hi Ben, congratulations on your purchase! The locomotive looks allright, with a little bit of maintenance it may be running better. I hope to see more soon!
Indeed this is the loco running before I give it a service and lubrication. Fortunately OOBill has a video of him servicing one of these locos with all wheel drive. I think there is also a variant where only one bogie is driven. Greetings, Ben
@@ben222b Yes, I saw his video on this. The motor inside seems to be huge. I am looking forward to seeing your locomotive after servicing!
Watching live with a nice view my friend. God bless.
Hi Benji, I've got 4 Jouef HO scale Lowmac wagons with peco couplings that I no longer need. They are all in good condition but missing their load. You could load them up with crates etc. Would you be interested in them?
Hello Henry, that could be interesting indeed - can you email me the details using ben222b on google mail? Thanks, Ben
I have a 1960's Playcraft (Jouef) Maroon restaurant coach (M1701), which I was given back in 1971, when I was aged 9. It is pre-1968 as it has the Lanal hook & loop couplings. The choices of RTR British outline HO locos are pretty slim: North British 0-4-0DM (Playcraft in 1:80 scale) Class 21 / Class 29 BO-BO (Playcraft in 1:80 scale) Rebuilt Royal Scot 4-6-0 (Rivarossi in 1:87 scale). Fowler 4F 0-6-0 (Lima in 1:87 scale) Class 33 (Lima in 1:87 scale)
I actually received a BR Green Playcraft class 21/29 in the post today. Just gave it a quick inspection earlier, seems to be the one with all wheel drive. I am definitely after the Lima H0 models, both the 33 with and without lights and in BR blue and green, and the 4F which I think came in Black and Crimson? The other two I don't think I saw before, so will search for them, thanks! Ben
Wish Marklin could do a H0 range after the Scotsman.
Indeed, needs to be something like BR Maroon or BR Crimson and Cream.
Hi Ben, thanks for this great review. Great job lot. I have that same Lima Intercity coach too, it's very nice. But I must say the Jouef do great too, I found a few red ones on eBay but I was rather unimpressed, and they were 8 euros each, and shipped from France, quite expensive. it may be the quality of the pictures - they were not good, on your video these coaches look great. Cheers 🙋♂️ Erik
Thanks for your comments Erik, and for your encouragement to make this video. I have a few more Jouef BR coaches on order. Not just the Royal Mail coaches you saw on 2dehands, but also an order coming from France. I will review these as they arrive. Also I have another set of items I found in the UK last week and I will make a video of these acquisitions. Groetjes! Ben
@@ben222b That will be super interesting again! By the way, this evening I have ordered the Ruston & Hornsby 88DS 0-4-0 No. 84 in BR Green. The discount was big, I couldn't resist 🤗
@@railway187 A 40% discount is irresistible 😋
For that Mini BBQ ! 🤘🦁🤘
Beautiful train 👍👍👍
00 scale :-)
The locomotive would look great with the Jouef H0 Royal Mail wagons too! 😊
@@railway187 I am searching for the H0 version of this Class 33
@@ben222b I saw the Jouef Royal Mail wagons with a Jouef Class 21 on 2dehands yesterday. The Lima Class 33 H0 is a fantastic runner. It's one of my favourite locomotives. But difficult to find in Belgium. In the UK these sometimes go very cheap, but then there's probably import taxes...
@@railway187 I bid on the jouef class 21 plus wagons this afternoon. I think they want more than I offered. I didn't find an H0 class 33 in England last week but I did get some British H0 stuff. I will post a video here soon.
Ah the dolias iorn works d class locomotive
It would be nice if Hornby made a more detailed verion
Yea I agree I would need help tho
:-)))))
Nice! This was my first set too... now buried in my storage unit. Can you remind me which train that is? Class 47? 😊
Yes it's the Class 47, numbered 47 421, catalogue number R.075. Happy New Year!
@@ben222b Thanks for the info! I'll dig them out one day!
It's doing great 👍
The brake van looks like Triang?
Exactly this is the Tri-ang R.16 "short" brake van. The Tri-ang / Hornby brake vans with the longer chassis have the product code R.016.
Very tastefully done, not overdone, really spot on 👍
Thank you! This is the second weathering I have done and I am still learning. I like the idea of bringing out the detail but not making the wagons look extremely worn.
Very nice set! 🤩 Have a great end of this year and best wishes for 2024!
Thank you, my first trainset from 1977 - I rediscovered it in my sister's garage in England a few months ago. Gelukkig nieuwjaar Erik!
Nice.. 👍
Hi Ben, is it a Lima type ringfield motor? It sounds as if in need of oil. It could however also be a problem with the cog wheels. Maybe @paulvozman842 has some advice.
I wanted to lubricate the gears in the bogie of this model. The problem is that there are five clips holding the motor to the plastic bogie - it is very difficult to separate the two - OOBill did it here ua-cam.com/video/CBxd-ciBtpY/v-deo.html I attempted this but it really felt like the 1970s plastic bogie was going to break 😕
@@ben222b Looks like quite some pressure is needed to get the motor in or out of the bogie indeed... And grease can only be applied if you have good access to the worm gears. If it would get into the copper windings of the motor it will make things worse.
Hi Ben, I thought there were no train videos on your channel, but it seems you have shorts! Great locomotive 🚂 🤩
I really want to do more shorts, your comments here may just inspire me :)
