Put a donate box in your closet, so when you put on a sweater and don't want it, the box is ready and waiting!
Smart!
I keep a paper shopping bag in my closet, when it's full, off it goes to be donated.
This! I’ve kept a designated “donate tote” in the house since our kids were little. Once full, it’s easy to catalog for taxes, bag and drop at the thrift store. 💓
I have kept a box in my garage that is big enough to hold quite a bit, but small enough for me to manage to the car. This way, anytime I came across an item that no longer served me or my family into the box it went. Because it was a box, I could drop off at a donation center without having to resort. My kids all new about the box and would put items they no longer wanted in, too. Caviot, the kids had to check with siblings and mom first lol.
This is amazing idea I have one by the front door for our youngest sons clothes I feel like I’m constantly putting clothes in there. He’s about to turn 13 😂
Your closet clean out was an absolute riot! I love that you just bared your soul and gutted your closet. Your nervous laughter made me chuckle. Mike your joy over the crawl space made me smile, because… I get it! And because you are SO HAPPY!!!!!!
I don’t believe that I get more excited to see a new video posted as much as I do with yours. You guys are so amazing! So many other family UA-cam channels do nothing but brag on fancy trips or toys, new homes etc… you guys are real and relatable. I almost feel like I’m a member of your family because of your values and how you bring in your viewers. Love you all!
That’s so kind of you to say! We hope that everyone can tell it’s the real us sharing our real life on here! ❤️
We're not supposed to judge . So you don't feel so bad. Find a woman's battered shelter or some place like that to donate them to. That should make you feel better them. Great job Megan.
I appreciate you so much Megan. You pushed yourself to be vulnerable and brutally honest with yourself! I admire that about you!
Thanks. ☺️
I transitioned to a capsule wardrobe when I paired down. Best decision ever! I’m never board of my clothes and I only have what I wear all the time. All my favorites. 💕
I adore Megan's exposition on the amazing wood in the crawl space. Watching her fall in love with another layer of their home. 💓
This video inspires me to do this in my own closet 😂 appreciate the transparency, it’s always refreshing
same here
Megan, you did a great job on that closet . I am so proud of you. You have grown so much in the past few years, Love you much, your adopted 80 yr old Nan-Naw from Florida.
I’ve missed you! I know…that’s weird…but, you’re one of the few channels that warms my heart.
Ty for sharing your journey ❤️❤️
Only the best, for the best, by the best. Glad yall liked the work.
I loved seeing both parts of this video - the crawl space and the closet. Great job! I too downsized our clothes years ago, and I love having less "stuff" to deal with! I had a hard time deciding how many clothes to keep, so I divided my clothes into 4 seasons and chose how many to keep for each season. I like to keep 6 pairs of jeans, 6 pairs of capris, and 6 pairs of shorts, which covers all seasons. Then I choose 12 tops for each season, only keeping those I love. I also chose 4 sets of church clothes for each season. I store my off-season clothes in a tote, which makes me feel better not having so much clutter. I find that I appreciate my clothes much more, and taking care of the laundry is much simpler. I've done this for my whole family, and it has changed my life for the better because it simplifies organing clothes, buying clothes, laundry, etc... Downsizing just feels so good!
My husband and I share a small walk in closet. We both have a tote of "off season" clothes. Since we're in MN, it's like unboxing a new wardrobe every 6 months. :) Another benefit is that I end up donating clothes I don't love anymore, when unboxing for the spring or fall.
Well done Mike and Megan! Megan, kudos to you for not only tackling that huge project but sharing the process with your viewers. I’m inspired to finally get through my own over abundance ☺️ Tganks for sharing!
Crawl Space Ninja was a great resource when my husband did our crawl space! We learned so much, and now we use our left over encapsulation plastic as the worlds best slip-n-slide 😂
Bonus!!!
The crawl space is awesome now!! Megan you have literally saved your back by now having to pack the extra clothes to your new house!! 💜
Megan you have inspired me... tomorrow I will purge my clothes ... Cool how the house crawlspace is looking.
Wow, I’m super impressed with the crawl-space process! I had no idea it was that involved, but you can tell that Dom is a professional and definitely knows what he is doing. Steve did a fantastic job of explaining how the process controls the condensation and the moisture. Makes perfect sense that it will also promote better health! It really looks great!
"No, you know what, you can judge me, I don't care because I'm judging myself right now" what a mood 🤣
Been with you guys since the beginning. You guys are wonderful. Thank you for sharing the love.
What an amazing difference during the progress of this video.. both with your clothes Megan and Mikes crawl space. I have a total horror of small, tight spaces but now that clean bright place is looking good!
wow! great job Megan...you were absolutely ruthless ......in a good way. so proud of you, and inspired!
Air quality alone is a great reason for doing what you did- I wonder if it acts as a better insulation to make your air con and heater more efficient? Couldn’t be more proud of you Meghan- I’m right behind you on the de- clutter board!
We used the full service from Crawl Space Ninja and they did a fantastic job. Great company. No one should judge you. We all have areas of our life that need to be decluttered. You are leading the way.
What a great difference in the crawl space, Mike! Megan, I have a hard time getting rid of anything, so you did a great job! As you rightly say, once the decision is made, you soon forget about what’s been removed and it is a relief! (This is where my forgetfulness finally comes in handy!🤣) Kind regards from Penny in Liverpool 🇬🇧💕😊
I had no idea you blocked the vents. Hum! Thanks for the video.
Great job on the closet purge, Megan. I need to do that too. The crawl space looks terrific and not even scary anymore!
It's so easy to judge, but I KNOW that if I had as much space as you have there, I would fill it up. Why is it so hard for us to live with soace?! Not every nook and cranny needs to be filled with things. The freedom that comes from a little soace. Way to go Megan!! Also, the crawl space looks awesome. Kids adventure zone!!🤣
Megan, that’s a very overwhelming task! Kudos to you! I did that a few years back. To maintain a smaller amount, I now made myself follow this rule: if you buy an item, you have to discard an item. I found that helps reduce the volume and stop the wasted spending. Good luck!!
We can all use a good vapor barrier. Maybe Eve would like some of the garments for playing dress up. I remember loving that when I was around her age.
That was fun, guys!! Wow, who knew what needs to be done to make a home safe and healthy!! AND more room without unneeded clothing. Good for you, Megan!! So many women can take advantage of your experience and the clothing donated to those who have need of good clothing for a really reasonable cost--thrifting!!! Something new provided by an outstanding family. Hope to get to see the "boys" removing the roof, etc. Repeating--that was fun!!
GOD BLESS YOU! You are inspiring many to do the plunge and get rid of stuff especially cloths.
Lol open a scarf store on etsy
We all are so funny with what we do. Im doing a clean out now.
I have like a hundred pairs of socks and all I wear is flip flops.
That crawl space is such a blessing. Good job! I love the owner of that company. God bless him and his business.
🤣🤣😁😁😒😒💕💕
.. Socks and flip flops!.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha ❤️🩴
Great Job Mike and Dom. Seems like a great idea especially with all the humidity that Charlotte area gets. Nice and clean and tidy too 😁. Meghan…..I don’t know how you accomplished all that closet situation. UGH ! I have the same problem. 😳😵💫 you are inspiring. Thank you 🤗
Sure is inspiring Megan, well done !!! I need a designated area for clothes… your closet is as big as my bedroom!! (120 year old English terrace house!!) I’m downsizing, telling my family and friends I’m Going to do it, so it makes me start !! Proud of you 👏🏻
I don't know about where you live, but in my state there are several organizations that collect nice used clothing for women who are starting over and need to re-enter the work force. Also, check with your church to see if anyone is in need. So happy that Mike has one big issue behind him. Deep breath, and on to the next item on the list!
Congrats Mike and Crawlspace Ninga on a great job!
We are moving and a month ago I sorted out my side of closet, well half maybe and donated 3 black trash bags to thrift store. Now 1 1/2 weeks away from moving I need to finish sorting so don’t move items I don’t wear, fit or like. It really does feel better to see neatly hung clothes! Good luck, I know you will do great.
Mike is amazing...an all rounder🥰
About decluttering clothing - I do feel good when I donate clothes in good condition. Especially if I bought it - it's a useful form of giving - I feel like I bought it to give to someone else.
Great job Megan!! Every time I declutter I feel freer.
Fantastic!!!! Megan, you are a clothes horse paring down warrior!!! Whoa, Nelly, you rode off into a successfully decreased clothes sunset 🤩🤩🤩 And the crawl space is gorgeous Mike!!! You and the Ninjas rock!!!
If you like me I seem to wear the same things over and over! I think your house will be awesome !! Proud of you Meghan! 🎉
Oh my stars...I did this about five years ago using Marie kondo method. When I emptied the closet and chest of drawers dumping all of it on the floor....i was stunned!!
But yes....after I finished the task...it felt so good.
Great job.
My closet is every bit as bad as yours was. Yours looks so nice now. I'm going to get started on mine!! Love you and your family!! Thanks ❤️ C
You did good clearing out your closet. I did the same to my closet. I Donated everything to a Local Ministry who has a Resale Consignment Store and they also Donate Truckloads to Cuba or the Homeless here in Town. I donated about 100 pairs of my jeans, 25 pairs of shoes, sweaters, blouses, T Shirts, nightgowns, houseware, paintings, wall pictures, home decor, lamps, Christmas Tree and Lights and so much more. I decided that I needed to do it I'm now a Minimalist everything I have now fits in a medium sized luggage and my personal daily backpack. Lately I've been thinking of purging more and just use a small suitcase and my backpack until all I have is inside my backpack. Good Luck. I was like you big house plenty of room just kept buying and storing away what didn't fit. You'll fell less anxiety with less to lug everywhere you go. Good Luck.
I’ve missed you all!
If you have not worn it in the last year you need to donate. That is what we did when we downsized. I had 243 shoes I am now down to 50. 50 is a Good number right💁♀️ 🥰
Thanks for this video, Megan.
I have a similar situation. I went from wearing uniforms to wearing street clothes. I have way too many clothes.
Hint, I make it easier to get ready for work by making outfits on one hanger. Next time I do laundry, I may make different outfits. However, it makes it so easy to get ready. Also helps me figure out what doesn’t fit or I’ll never wear it again.
Smart!
Next vlog we see, Mike will have a cool nail gun shooter himself 😂
Wow that was a lot of clothes lol...The crawl space looks great now.
Wow!!! Not only it that a huge improvement of the crawl space, but it's huge! So much space for storage. Great job on the culling out Megan. It's something that I love doing. It always feels good to declutter and love everything that you have and use. :)
So proud of you ❤️Adelaide Australia 🇦🇺
I’m sure I’ve seen you do this before?! I love decluttering!!!
Wow!!! Super impressed with both the basement and your closet...
Megan thank you now I want to clean my closet . So excited for your new homestead … can not wait to see all the progress and the finished home …
Good for you!! I have 3 closets of clothes. I am a oral cancer survivor and for some reason after my treatments we're finished I started shopping and I haven't stopped. 😁
Congratulations! I have been dreading going through my clothes because I have way too many and I have no idea what I want to keep. I don't think I can do it on my bed, because I'm sure I'll need to sleep in it before I get through them all, but I can pile them up on the sofa. Yay! Thank you for the inspiration, Megan!
The crawl space looks amazing!
I know how you feel with the clothing. We moved Oregon to Florida about 2 years ago I had. A 3 huge closet full of stuff that was just dusty and didn’t fit or hadn’t been touched in years. We also moved into an rv so I got rid of 9999% of it and I haven’t missed it at all. I have a few more things now that we are settled in a home but my motto is, if it collects dust it needs to just go.
If you do similar closet clean outs with your kids, you could probably free up tons of room. Nice job
I think that I remember when Elijah "pared down" his wardrobe in anticipation of a move, especially to Japan. He even modeled some of his castoffs and newly discovered "outfits"! He'd make a great model! Kudos to him and Megan and the family as they prepare for another great adventure!
I purged so so much last January and have never looked back. It is one less thing to worry about. Any time I buy something new something has to go in its place. So far so good.
I just started working on my closet today and thought I'd take a back break and watch a video or two. LOl. I guess this is the universe telling me to get back to work.
Great job on that closet!!
As a woman who has always loved clothes AND lived in small places, I have a trick for you (if you don't already do it)... separate your wardrobe into seasons (fall, spring, winter, summer) and put them in vacuum bags in totes. Since your basement is enclosed you can keep them down there. You can also do this with the rest of your family's wardrobes and your settings and dishes for the kitchen.
As for the guilt, pay them forward. If you have a DI there take them there, or reach out to a woman's shelter or place that has clothes for people that have no money (this is WAY different than Goodwill or the Salvation Army or thrift stores because this is for legit people that have no money, not where people buy them and resell for more (which really irks me)).
I know you’ve already finished your closet clean out but maybe for the future, you could change your mind set from, “I spent the money so I need to keep it otherwise it’s a waste,” to, “I spent the money and now I’m going to bless someone else.” There are thrift stores that help people either by employing and training them or with their profits. There are also donation centers where you can take your clothes and they give them away free to people who need them. I was where you were at for most of my life but this mindset change really helped me. GREAT job!!!! The closet looks amazing!
Love that! I got rid of several bags of clothes during my last move and it is so freeing to pair down like that
I'm pausing at 12:55 to say I've been thinking of going through my closet and when I do I'm going to just go for 14 of each item that way I have 2 weeks of clothes to pick from.
I hope this helps ❤🙋♀️❤
Go check out the Minimal Mom, she can help you work through guilt and feelings. There is No shame!!!!!! You're beautiful and wonderful. Love your style and heart.
If you guys starting doing vlogmas everyday- that would be great! Love your vlogs!
Lol!! Meghan, I can so relate….I find clothes so hard to get rid of!! BUT, I have started and this time with you has made me resolve to go back in and purge again!!
Both the crawl space and closet look great! Would have loved to see Mike’s reaction to the closet.
No judgement! It is so eyeopening when we’re literally faced with what we’ve let happen in our lives without even reading it. I’m only midway through your portion of the video, and stooping to say that and also that you’ll come away from this experience so much more aware!
I see nothing wrong with a large wardrobe Ive had both big and small. Whichever puts you at ease. Of course you have a diverse wardrobe for church, biz meetings travel all over the States and various countries not to mention hiking, camping and just being at home. I like a variety of tee’s and pants for the home-front, and I do still live in an RV and my clothes arent sz small so they take up some room! I do toss things that have a stain, look sloppy, or dont fit, Im past saving my skinnies! :-)
Now I want to clean out my closet!
Also…shoes next! Mine!
That crawl space looks amazing!.... And what I'm thinking, Is you could store some clothing down there if you have a few extra things you wanted to store...
😂...
The closet make over was great. I did the same thing recently and I did feel so much better. Thank you so much for sharing
I was thinking the crawl space could definitely be used as storage.
@@amberburnett757 Yes!
Oh my gosh. You are me. I looked in my closet after this. I feel like it’s a waste to give away. I’m not very brave. But it’s crazy.
Great job on the crawl space and your closet too
We didn't get Mike's reaction on the closet! Of course the crawlspace is so important but he must have been shocked.
He loved it!
WTG with getting this house project done plus the closet clean out.
That was awesome!!! Crawl space and closet!!!!!
Awesome closet clean! If you did it, maybe I can too. I’m going to try!
The crawl space looks fantastic. And effective. And bonus, it won’t get so cold either. That will help with the heating, something to be careful about these days.
Megan!! You’re adorable and not to be judged! There’s a lot to be said for self reflection, but not self condemnation!
love how you get rid of cloths. i want to do that but afraid i can,t afford to get more.
Loving that you shared crawl space ninja, Mike. I will be sharing with my husband as we need to do this, he’s talked about it but worried about expense. This may well help us!
I am so proud of you!! I couldn't do that for all the money in the world. Mike just doesn't have much in the way of clothes!!
Meghan I’m struggling also with decluttering etc. My problem is I hold on to everything for sentimental reasons.
No judgement here Megan-it happens and it’s overwhelming but once it’s done then it’s done, closet looks great, and your giving to others on need
Megan! Great job! You’ve inspired me!
I’m laughing at Megan asking for our help! I was ready to tell her how many of each item to keep, and she did it all by herself! Crawl space looks great!
Love the looks of the crawl space. Well done gentlemen. Megan, Kudos to you for undertaking a very difficult job for most of us. I will have to put this on my bucket list to do in January. Like you, I just haven't been able to get the mindset to let go of things I will never ever wear and pare down the things that I do wear. Thanks for this motivation. Have a Blessed day.
I understand the out of control clothes! It is stressful sorting but so satisfying when you're finished!! I've donated 3 large bags a month ago! Whew doggies 🙂
You could store some of your clothes in drawers also.. that might take up less space..🤷♀️ ( but the the drawers take up space too..🤷♀️🤷♀️)
I’m loving your content right now! Please show us allll you can with the renovation!
I needed to see this. Guess what I will be doing tomorrow!?!?
I too need to do this. Every women’s nemesis.
Our closet is nearly the size of yours. I have been filling bags and more bags full of clothes to take to our local church, while my more expensive pieces will be sold on Mercari, (VERY unsure of site's name spelling). You may want to think of that or another similar site. There is nothing wrong with making a couple bucks while still offering goods to help others. Hope your Thanksgiving was awesome for all of you!!!
Good job MEGAN 🎉🎉🎉
Megan, I literally just did the same thing. I realized I already spent the money and now it’s going to people who can really use them. Great job
