Very Nice Jonathan. I'll be picking up my MTH Big Boy next week. A gentleman I talked to has a MTH 70-3049-1 Big Boy #4014 coal fired version for sale, and he is holding it for me. After seeing this numerous times I can't wait till spring to get my backyard patio project started.
Thank you, your video gave me much needed information on my wifes G scale mth up4004 big boy. I run lionel, and have the 4014. What was additional to yours? The wiring for battery, is one. I love the layout. Everyone gives us different answers to diameter of curve, you not only say it, but show it. Found a great deal on 2 aristo eyes, and a left and right power switch by usa, $90 each. She paid 3k for her big boy 3 weeks ago, so I needed to know if it would navigate the wye and switches, so you helped me out
I watch train videos on tv and like this engine....curves and the number drive wheels. My question is about curves being too fast in an arc and the drive wheels contact on the track or is it an opitical illussion? I keep noticing how tight a curve looks and wonder do the wheels have binding against the rail?
The USA Trains Big Boy is 1/29th scale. The MTH Big Boy is 1/32nd scale - that's a 10% difference in relative size. That's probably why the MTH version handles somewhat tighter curves.
@@TheeFishGuy I wasn't referring to you beautiful line's length of track, more the size of the passageways. Do you have video of the big boy with a length of rail cars? Would love to see it.

Great video great train so this Mth one gauge has Wi-Fi in the tender and you use a battery so no need for the tiu and wifi module correct did the come from the mth factory like that I want one Thanks

Thank you! It’s now got an 18.5v internal battery and the capability to have an exterior battery. Inevitably the battery dies at the furthest point away and it’s too heavy to carry back. This way I can just plug a battery in and bring it home!

Out of curiosity how do you keep it from being vandalized or stolen it looks like you are in the middle of town. It's a beautiful piece of engineering on your part. What do you get in the box that comes with the train?
We live in a small one stop light town. Everyone knows the layout in town and passers by often walk up and check it out if I’m outside running trains. So it’s all good. Just the engine and the tender are in the box.

I only run the big boy with my iPhone/iPad. There’s a Wi-Fi module in the tender throwing out a Wi-Fi signal that the devices pick up. It’s like pushing the easy button.

Is there a way to adjust the bell? I think a slower ringing bell would be more prototypical, sort of like my Lionel JLC Big Boy.
