Hey I am from the future and been trying out a new medium (acrylics, I am a watercolor painter). I am so used to failing that my philosophy that every painting IS an improvement. Assuming you are anything but a watercolorist, at the very least you have white and can paint over dark lol. Try and do not be afraid to fail/branch out! Art is a lifelong journey, be it casual or professional. So get to painting and good lucky mr zombie spit man.
"You'll See It When You Believe It" - Dr Wayne Dyer. This philosophy can be traced back centuries. The earliest I've heard was something attributed to Marcus Aurelius "Our Life is What Our Thoughts Make It".
My issues with my art is that I have so many ideas in my head, I get a bit overwhelmed. I also have poor time management. My mind goes everywhere at once (I have ADHD) so it's a bit difficult for me to focus on one idea at a time
Sometimes I feel like artist block is a blessing in disguise. It's, in my opinion, one of the most spiritual and significant parts of being an artist. The drive to create is so easily interrupted, and this often causes us to drudge up a lot of things that we don't like to admit to ourselves. It's not healthy to rely on familiarity for validation. I think that is where artist block often starts with many. The subsequent fear of bursting your own bubble often leads to self-sabotage and, at times, objectively bad art. I think it creates this secondary drive to improve your own mental state and explore new outlets of creativity that you may not have pursued before. It's pretentious-- but being an artist is a lot more than just creating art. It often means exploring yourself in ways that are unique to you.
Nice hair style you've piked there :) Is it just me, or have you become more confident, calmer and more relaxed over time? Anywho, I've been thinking about starting experimenting with oil painting for a couple of weeks. For no reasons, and who needs reasons anyway. Your book is a happy coincidence.
@Robinsealark Exactly what I needed at this moment . One way to stop art blocking can be copying famous art works and just do a little change in them . It may sound silly but it works and you find some ideas in it . Also , if you have children around you , play paint with them , you'll find it enjoying and also a source of inspiration to stop art blocking (this makes sense because children are more spiritual creatures and connecting with them can open our channels again too)
thank you for your sincerity! it's scary wanting to be an artist but also trying not to just put more UGLY in the world because some feelings are UGLY. but it doesn't always have to be. i think i'm slowly learning this
You are one of the most creative, funny, bright woman i´ve ever seen. I hope you get from life what you deserve which is only the best, Saludos and much love from Spain.
Missed you loads Robin, I love your videos so much and I wish you the very best. You inspire me every day to keep creating and trying new things, and for years you have really helped me stick with art. I have been watching your channel for years, and I will continue to watch for as long as you are doing youtube. You have such a wonderful personality and a beautiful voice, you're funny, creative, and you seem like such a lovely person. Thank you for inspiring me to keep going with art and through my personal struggles, wonderful video as always xxx
You’re definitely helping me peel off whatever it is that’s been inhibiting me from drawing & painting. I mean, I’ve got to get sorted out. I’m amongst the mountains of North Wales, more inspiration than anyone could wave a brush at!! Best of luck with the book.
Robin Thank you so much for your transparency and clarity and the obvious amount of time and effort you put into sharing this information. I'm struggling through the worst creative/artist/work/ block of my life and I appreciation you sharing so much of your own journey.
Omg I missed you so much, and I'm really happy and sad at the same time, happy for you cz you launched your own book and really sad bcz we don't have amazon in our country, But still I'm really really proud of you, you never fail to inspire me, I've been watching you since I was a child. I love you and your art. I hope you you stay blessed and happy, also don't overthink yourself
@@RobinSealark You're like my biggest inspiration, both with painting and mental health and I'm 1000% pre-ordering at least one copy of your book!!! ❤️❤️❤️
1. The hair is AWESOME. The cut totally suits you. 2. I can see an IMMENSE improvement in your art since you left 3. Impeccable timing as my art block is bad rn
woah, i haven’t seen your videos pop up in my recommended page in a while! in elementary school i used to watch your art videos all the time to try and improve my drawings. of course, i wasn’t as good as yours but you inspired me to keep trying. now i’m in highschool and have been taking advanced art classes, using my art as a source of money and even been able to win state contests. thank you for being a huge influence in my art journey!
I love that you are an artist that is aware of the mental game that comes with the path. Your an inspiration and have helped me realize a lot of things in the art world and personally. So glad your back as we have missed you ❤️
I’m so glad you’re back! My art block is finishing paintings I’ve started. I’ve noticed that if I start a new painting I spend hours on it and “finish” it in one sitting. If I leave it to the next day I’ll never finish it. I can’t wait for oils so I only use acrylic. I have a few unfinished oil paintings, just waiting... I always feel rushed when I paint because I’m scared I’ll never finish it.
Yay. I love this. I've been struggling with art lately. It's not much of an art block but more of a life readjustment. Trying to be gentle on myself as I ease I to motherhood and post surgery life while working. Seeing this makes me happy.
Everytime I come back to your channel, your art always looks SOOOO different. I was here since your realistic ocean/water paintings and Im so excited and giddy to see how you evolved from that.
Robin, it's so good to see you back on UA-cam! You are truly a light in my life. I'm so happy to hear you talk about The Artist's Way; today was day 22 of morning pages for me. I'm so excited to see what will come out of this process, and I'm really enjoying it so far. I've seen a huge difference in my general mindset, and I can see with such clarity that the morning pages really supported - if not facilitated - some other pretty big shifts in my daily life. Thank you so much for sharing your experience here with all of us. Can't wait to see what you'll do next! Congrats on the book too!
I ordered a book! So excited! I've been wanting to get back into oil painting. It's been a very long time. I've always painted in Acrylic and watercolor. Happy to see you excelling in what you do best! I've been a follower for years.
Really helpful, thank you Robin. I'll have to watch it over a few times, to fully understand it. My Problem is, that I feel like whatever I create is ugly and senseless. I feel like I'm slowly loosing the ability to create and produce art. It's like there is a bit of creativity left, but I dont have access to it. Even though right now I dont see a way out of it, you somehiw give me hope that this is "just" an artist block and that it will somehow go away.
Robin, I'm so happy you made this video. It popped up this evening when I came online after spending time remonstrating aloud at myself for not painting today. This old (1941 model) missed you very much. Oh, and I love your new hair style. it suits you.
:) Thank you for saying all of that. It's amazing how easy it is to fall into that loop of negative self-talk so I'm glad this was well timed! & thank you for saying it suits me, I really appreciate that X)
You have come so far as an artist its incredible. I remember watching you as a teenager and i just stumbled upon you once again and im fascinated with the progress, it is very encouraging
Ahh!! About time. Artist block, seems like abyss, dungeon, and void all-in-one. But I'm still loyal to what my hands are used to, to just draw something random or just scribble. Maybe I'm just overthinking about my life and my future. I agree how you elaborated pragmatism. I'm trying to pull myself together, my mind has been all over the place, kind of lost but there's a thought that always live in my mind... they say, we are born artists, others forget and others relearn how to do art as we age. Now, maybe I'm relearning all, gradually.
I love her book. She's amazing. Thank you for bringing this to the forefront for artists. I found reading this text helped me to hit major milestones in my artist journey, identity, and let go of the shadow holding me back. Great job!
