Chevy Malibu Rear Shock Lower Bolt Torque Specs : 133 ft-lbs
Being a woman I didn’t think I could do this , but after watching your video I did the job all by myself, thank you so much you saved me lots of money
You're just as capable as me! I am so glad you did it. Great Job! Thank you so much for watching.
You’re a good mechanic and very knowledgeable. Straight forward video. Thank you. I’m working on my 2019 Chevy Malibu RS. Brakes and rotors are done. Next up I want to the struts along with the hubs. Awesome video thanks.
You're very welcome. Thank you SO much for watching my content. I really appreciate it.
You are great mechanic sir. Love the use of torque specs, LockTight, and antisieze. Thanks for the Vid!
You're very welcome Joshua. Thank you very much for watching.
A very complete video even including torque specs! Well done, Sir. One quick point, when removing the bottom bolt hold the nut with the open end wrench and use the socket with the impact on the bolt head. That way the bolt, in most cases, will back itself out and you won't need to drive it out with the punch. It will also help free a bolt that's frozen in the arm if you live in the rust belt.
Thank you and thanks for the advice. Also, thanks for watching.
You appear ta be a very' good mechanic there bro.! Thanks very much for having a sharing" heart, and having the gift' of helping others !!! - I gotta do this same job for a friend of mine this friday. Im ready now, after watching your (very helpful) video - thanks again 🛠
Thank you James. I've been doing it since I was 10 years old so I know a thing or two. You're gonna knock it out the park. It's a fairly easy job. Once again, thanks and thanks for watching.
@@TerenceDIY Your right ! It's probably one of easiest' job's I've done in a long" time . He brought the Malibu over a day early ... I knocked it out in about an hour. Thanks to you tellin' us all the correct tools I'll need. 🛠 I appreciate your help man 🙏
You're very welcome. Thanks again for watching,
Thank you for your great explanation. Very thorough. With the part numbers and socket sizes. Anti seize and everything. 👍

You're very welcome. Thank you for watching.
You're great at what you do 👍🏻 Thanks for the Explanation 👌🏼
You're very welcome. Thank you SO much for watching.
Thanks bro. I'm at 80 K now. I guess I'll be doing mine soon as well.
You're welcome Anthony. Thank you for watching.
72K miles on my 2018 and its creaky af. I'll be needing to do this soon. Thank you for the excellent walkthrough!
You're very welcome. Thank you for watching.
Hey thank you taken the time sharing this how easy it is to change the shocks. I was told ay dealership to do my front and back with labor and cost about 1,600 dollars guess what im.going to do it myself. I have 2016 Chevy Malibu.
Hi Richard, it's a fairly easy job and you will save a ton of money. Thank you SO much for watching.
Amazing video this was very helpful
Thank you and thank you SO much for watching.
Thanks for the guidance!!!
You're very welcome Dan. Thank YOU for watching my content.
I have the same clunking/rattling noise in my 2017 malibu at 74000 miles. I replaced the rear knuckles and inserted the washers like the service bulitin says, but none of those things worked. I'll give this fix a try. Thank you.
I am pretty sure this will fix your problem. Thanks for watching.
pretty darn good , if i do say so myself.
Thank you Charles and thanks for watching.
Wow💥 !!! Nice tools man !
Thank you.
Quick question: The noise i get is a clunk sound when i reverse or let off the break to hit the gas at light. this has to be the rear shocks right? I also hear the clunk when i press down on my trunk while its parked so it leads me to believe it is the shocks? if so your video is going to get me to do this myself! You are awesome! I subscribed to your channel, I like the way you get to the point and are very clear with your tutorials! Cheer's from Texas!
There is a possibility that the shock mount can cause that however, after doing quite a few of these, that rear knuckle was the culprit for that clunk. I have arguably the best video on UA-cam regarding that rear knuckle clunk and fix. Check it out. Also, if you need any parts. let me know. I can get you a great deal as I have dealt with many vendors throughout the years. Thanks,
I wish you were in New Orleans to do mine🥴
I would definitely help. I am in Chicago. Thanks for watching.
Do you have any advice on how to replace the front struts on the 2019 Chevy Malibu
Not really. I would have loved to have a video on that for you because I would have shown every detail. It should be pretty straightforward though. Thank you so much for watching.
Man l wish you were local l need this done to my car.
😢 Wish I could help.
Another great video! What’s the name of the tool you used to remove that bottom bolt? You were hitting it with a hammer. It’s the shape of a big bit or nail.
It was a pointed chisel. They come in all shape and sizes.
Hey can you link where you sourced these struts and mounts from?
Here is the link for the OEM original part at a great price.

When these need replaced would these make the car almost go sideways over a bump at high speeds? Almost a side to side motion or maybe it’s the shocks?
Definitely not the shocks. If you feel that side to side motion in the rear, the knuckles can cause this if the bushings are worn out. I have a VERY detailed video on the rear knuckles that's installed on these vehicles. They were a flawed design from the factory. If you have not watched the video, you should check it out. Thanks,
@@TerenceDIY Thank you. Sounds like you’re 100% right.
You're very welcome. Thank you for watching my content.
Anti sieze on lugnuts?
Yep. Been using it since I was a teenager. I have never had an issue, seen one or heard of one. Thank you very much for watching.
Thanks for posting this! Can you share the name of (or link to) that magnetic light?
Hi, the light is a Snap On magnetic light but there are MUCH cheaper brighter lights out there. Here is a link for a good one at a great price.

@@TerenceDIY Thank you! And thank you again for sharing your knowledge and experience!
Idk if you can help or know, but is it a MUST to replace the bracket along with the shock? Or can I just replace the shock and use the same bracket?
Yes, I can help. The bracket (shock mount) is what causes the problem. You can replace the mount and use the old shock if you want. I would just replace both. Here are some links for either or.

@Terence The DIY'er Well my local mechanic told me to replace shocks because they were starting to leak a little. I don't have any real problems per say but if that's what he suggested I'm going to change them. But I ask because if the shock needs replacement then I can just replace that and use the old bracket. Every video I watch though has it being replaced with a whole new bracket. So idk if they do it because it has to be done or because that's just how they buy the new shock. They sell both just the shock and the shock w/bracket. Obvious the ladder is more expensive too
@@GunTuber992 , does the car drive well? How many miles on the car? I've done hundreds of shock jobs. I've seen just about every scenario. In your case, the MAIN problem is that shock mount, not the shock itself. If you opt to replace just the shock, you'll regret it in the long run if not after the replacement. That shock has to be removed from the rubber in that mount. And unless your car is somewhat new, that rubber will be brittle in which will probably cause the mount not to hold the shock firmly hence, causing that irritating noise in the back. You don't have to take my word, I'm just talking from experience. Also, if your car is driving well. I would wait for a shock replacement. It's really not a big issue. Thanks,
Does this help if it makes a clunking sound over any bump?
Most likely it's the rear knuckles. Check out my video on that. That's a huge issue with these cars.
We replace the knuckles that was our problem because ir was doing clunking noise even when were getting into the car but you need to replace both even if only one is making the noise because few months later the other one is gonna start clunking too
Nice video..
Here is off topic.. 89 2002 chevy express... drive shaft broke. Got another. The pinion is tilted upward but only the bulb (dog bone ?).. the arms are in place for correct placement of shock mounts and brakes.. ... before I get brave enough to not do more damage.. are the bolts on the edge of the pinion bulb the bolts to loosen the bulb for realignment? (Trans angle is correct) any help is greatly appreciated.
I am not sure. I would have to see it to give you my honest opinion.
@@TerenceDIY I took a pick but all take a video and send it in daylight..seems this is so rear that no one has ever experienced a shift in rhe bulb like this. It drove extremely slow but made it 27 miles in its present condition...I'll also add a video bonus,, the hightop conversion van trailer I'm building

great video man ! just wanna ask as i read some of these comments, my malibu did making some knocking noise and made me wonder is it really the mount or the shock itself that create the sound. if possible, i would like to know your thoughts, thanks !
I am almost positive it's the mount. 98% sure of this. Thank you so much for watching.
