I was lucky enough to find all my Land of the Blindfolded volumes local for a decent price, they're my prized possessions. I've got a couple more titles I'm trying to track down, but unless you want to dish out $$$ to scalpers it seems almost IMPOSSIBLE 😖
Ugh I'm close to getting all of Land of the Blindfolded now, but still some of those volumes are hard to find.... PLUS I'm trying to collect Natsume's and haven't been able to get my hands on 14 for about a year now 😭

Your anthology videos are some of my favorites! I'm always curious about what series are in the magazine, and I find it really interesting to learn the history of the anthology as well! The skit at the beginning of the video is your best yet, in particular I like how you used it to show off different camera angle techniques!

I recently catalogued my whole collection in a google sheet and sadly only 2 of 81 titles (80% of them shoujo/josei) are from LaLa. KareKano and Snow White 😭 I do have a grainy fansub version of Star of Cottonland. I knew it was a shoujo but didn't know it was from LaLa as well. Truly a great magazine! If you are interested in Mizutama Honeyboy, that one is available in German. It was published by Kaze Manga which has now fused with Crunchyroll. Which is a pain in the ass when you just want to look at their release catalogue, because it always directs you to the streaming site. Carlesn actually bought Fruits Basket back in a big collection recently and they are releasing Another right now. I am on Hopium for Ouran. If they bring Ouran back in huge bundled volumes we might finally have a chance to get our hands on that series. But only if they bring Ouran back.
I do like your anthology videos a lot, because it's like get into the history of shoujosei, which I always found interesting while mixing with some recs as well that there is variety of genres, we just have to research a little to try to find more. A lots from Lala and Lala DX I have read as well, some of these you mentioned I recognize as well and some didn't know, that I might take a look

He only was inspired by classic shoujo like Rose of Versailles and Kaze to Ki no Uta and started putting more introspective emotion into the series because of this. From that same interview where he said this at least, there's no indication that he considers the series to be anything but seinen still.

I actually heard about this magazine from the Maid Sama afterwords. Maid Sama was published by Carlsen here in Germany. Mizutama Honey boy is actually available in Europe. In German. From Kaze Manga before they fused with Crunchyroll. Maybe I should read it after all. And one interesting thing you might not know Colleen, is that Tokyopop is not bankrupt. At least I think they aren't. They just became German. Yona of the Dawn and Snow White with the red hair are being published by Tokyopop here in Germany. When I was younger I got my dad to buy Rocking heaven for me. A series from Mayu Sakai published by Tokyopop. Two of my favorite Tokyopop series are Buddy Go and Ouji to Watashi wo Akiramenai. I believe that is the title. I was trying to look into Sparkly Lion boy and got the second one instead. Buddy Go is a fun story about dancing and the idol undustry. It even got an OVA. And if you are wondering why Tokyopop is German now, I have no idea. I didn't know that they used to be American. Btw, Ouran was also published by Carlsen but is very much out of stock. Because it's so old. I am snorting copium and hopium right now for a bundled rerelease just like Fruits Basket. I'd love it if they brought back more older titles. America should do that too actually. It is working great here in Deutschland.
Coleen and her comedy reminds me of Miisha Paullin and her work. Miisha is a Producer on "The Jimmy Dore Show" - which is worth checking out. Colleen even has the same smile (these are all complements btw)

I started my manga journey with Haruka Fukushima's shoujo manga (translated into Finnish) at the age of like 7-8 and your channel made me realise that I don't have to force myself to like shounen that liking shoujo and josei is nothing to be ashamed of. Also your 7Seeds rec got me to read the whole thing and now it's my favourite manga ever.

But more seriously, this was a nice comprehensive overlook at the magazine, so thank you for all the information! Also, as someone whose only exposure to Cipher was indeed that OVA, I have to give it props of SOME kind, because when you started describing the manga itself, I definitely had a, "Wait, is this the manga for that weird OVA I saw once? It SOUNDS like it might be..." moment mere seconds before you confirmed that it was. I guess the OVA managed to convey.... something that stuck in my psyche as definitively identifiable all this time later, so there is that.
😭 I just don't like royal settings that are like vaguely European lmaooo If it's explicitly Europe then I could get down but they're almost always just very vaguely in Europe And it's funny because I read Cipher first but when I was watching the OVA I was like "will ANYONE who doesn't know the series understand what is happening"??? I almost made a full video about it but the OVA is just too much lol
I don't even really know if i like Tendou Family or not. The main character has a really sad life and backstory (literally nobody deserves her 😭) but then the ml is like so mean but also not really? I dropped it a while ago bc I wasn't seeing much romance development 😔

Ugh, I'm so sad I can't get into Tendou-ke Monogatari, I've read 27 chapter and haven't felt anything from it... I wanted to love this manga so much because the premise is so good and FL has very interesting motivations and personality, but still there is just something wrong with the pacing and the style of storytelling that prevents me from having "badum" moments...
