Hi Mal. I got this in October 2019. This was its first run. It's too fragile to use much. Just removing the body to put the battery in stresses me out hahaha 😄👍
Absolutely love this RC. I had my first one in 1981 or 82, but the airfix-like shell soon got smashed up - young enthusiastic boy, kerbs and a mechanical speedo - in hindsight god knows how all the electronics fitted inside including the extra servo for the MSC - it's a real pain now getting the shell to fit. If you build the kit you have a choice to put in one of 3 pinions for high, medium or low speed. I bought a re-release in 2005 and did it in a Red Cross livery. This is a great run matey especially with the lights and the twilight atmosphere, very fitting, but also kinda menacing. Really enjoyed this as you don't see too many XR311's running about.
Thank you very much my friend. I'm always very nervous when I handle this one because of its fragile body. I got it in October 2019 and this was its first run. It was a spur of the moment thing on Friday evening. I have another one which I've never run. 🙂👍
Such a lovely Tamiya and a fantastic twilight run! I watched this ages ago and didn't comment as I think I had one too many beers! Watched again, just as good, loving the vibe with the music, a perfect match! Thumbs up matey! :))
Hi Mark. Thank you very much my friend. I tried to use the classic original Curtis Mayfield version of this track, but if I had the video would've been blocked in some countries. So I found another version without such strict copyright restrictions. 😎👍
Wow this is a Tamiya I’ve never seen before! You have one of the best collections of RCs I’ve ever seen. Glad you put them on the trails and run ‘em! 👍🏾👍🏾
Hi Paul. Thank you my friend. The original came out in 1977 and was Tamiya's fourth RC. It was also quite a momentous release because it was their very first off road RC. This one is a 2012 re release. (I apologise for the music if you had to explain the lyrics to Seb. I did consider changing it, but decided to use it because it seemed so fitting for the video. I wanted to use the classic original Curtis Mayfield version, but the video would've been blocked in some countries, including the States and Canada. So I found another version without such stringent copyright restrictions. 😎👍)
No problem! The music is fine, he listens to what we listen to. I always explain to him there are words we don’t use but hear in songs or outside the house 😀 Can’t wait to see the next rc in your collection, especially the Tamiyas!!
Thank you very much Adam. I made these videos of my collection last year. Tamiya collection ua-cam.com/video/7EoYy1BAaVE/v-deo.html Axial collection ua-cam.com/video/juOHlmrjWsM/v-deo.html The rest of my collection ua-cam.com/video/pOjc6Rm2Rnc/v-deo.html
Hi Gary. The original version came out in 1977. It was Tamiya's fourth release, and their first off road RC. This 2012 re release is much the same with just a few metal components replacing the original plastic ones. This was its first run and the basic suspension seemed to handle the bumpy terrain ok. I didn't get into the hobby until 2016, and never had any experience of it in my younger days like a lot of us "elder gentleman" did. I think that's why I've obsessively bought so many RC's over the past few years.
Oh wow such a Tamiya classic! A great example you have there with the working lights. Love the music and edit on this. Top work 😁 ps. It's an XR311, you have missed out the R 😀
Thank you very much Pete. I'm very nervous around this one because it's so fragile. But they were designed to be run and this was its first. I was very pleased with it, despite being Tamiyas first off road RC, and its prehistoric suspension. 😄👍 (Thanks for pointing out my mistake in the title mate 👍)
@@hollyhillrc oh yeah I might have already told you that the first time I took my XR311 out back in the day I rolled it over and plastic bits went flying everywhere! I was running it on tarmac which was probably a mistake! Glad to see yours still on one piece 😁
Hi Derek, I really like this Tamiya and thank you for sharing it with us. This military vehicle has class, its headlights in this undergrowth, it's excellent. Your musical choice is top: "I'm a Pusherman. . . ". I'll have to find that model somewhere. . . Thanks again my friend, I hope you're well, have a nice Sunday.
Hello Peter. I would like to apologise for not coming to the meet up recently. I had another health scare a few weeks ago and had to go to hospital. My heart was given the all clear but it frightened me. When Pete told me about the meet up I initially felt very enthusiastic and was looking forward to it. But on the morning I worked myself up into a bit of a state about actually going out and socialising for the first time. I've been self isolating since the beginning of February and only go out to walk my dog in the woods, and more recently make a few videos in there late in the day when it's not too busy. I guess I'm not mentally ready for the whole social thing yet. But I would like to say a huge thank you for my Lunchbox, and bringing it down. I haven't seen it yet but Pete said he'd try and come over with it this week. Hopefully I will be able to meet up with you all sometime in the future. Take care Peter 🙂👍
@@hollyhillrc Ahh man, you don't need to apologise for anything Derek, especially meeting up with a load of RC nutters. I'm aware of your health needs as my father suffered with heart problems all his life. As it's hereditary, I suppose it's something I can look forward to..... NOT!!! We could always come to you. That way, you can always go home if you need to in an emergency. You're welcome to the Lunchbox Derek. Anytime 😁
Thanks Charlie. It looks good but it's very fragile. It's like an Airfix body on a metal chassis. Touch it and it breaks. Putting in and taking out a battery is a major nightmare really. But once that's done it's a fun one to run. 🙂👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks David. I've had this for a while and have been too nervous to run it because the body's so fragile. But I decided to take the plunge and take it out for its first outing. To be honest the risky part is putting on and taking off the body for the battery. It was absolutely fine when it was running.
Awesome Derek!! Looking at this thing I think it doesn't have the suspension of the trucks ..Obviously.. But yet it moves really well through the brush and over roots etc,, I figured would hold this rig up but went right over no problem. Must have better ground clearance than it looks. Great truck man. Thanks for sharing and thumbs up once again brother.. :P
Hi Nick. When the original version came out in 1977 it was Tamiya's fourth release, and their first off road RC. This 2012 re release is much the same with just a few metal components replacing the original plastic, and modern electronics. It does sit very low to the ground, but managed surprisingly well. Completely nonsensical, impractical, fragile and expensive.... And I can't WAIT to build one of my own!! 😜 Looks great Derek, just romping through the Woods. As always, great Videography and sweet Music! 👌 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Yeah Derek, I had one about 30 years ago. The way it looks, it should NEVER have a Lipo in it!! At least with a NiMH, you can leave it in indefinitely. 😉
Hello my friend. It is a very nice RC, and runs well, and I like it very much. But the hard plastic body is very fragile. I have to be very careful with the body when I remove it to put in the battery and take out the battery. I also have to be careful I do not break the body when I run it. I do not use it much because of this.
@@hollyhillrc Quite tempting one 🙂 Been watching XR311 just before Christmas, i didn't liked it before but after i saw a 1:1 video about it and few rc ones, i was sold 🙃 Same happened with Holiday Buggy 🙈 Btw, this pandemia has messed up the hobby very bad. Nice the early days of Tamiya. My friend had one in the 70's then a Scorcher and this is what got me interested in the hobby.
