    enjoyed your video thanks!
    really hoping you can help with some tips, I live in Tokyo and planning to climb this peak on 31 October.
    - I dont know when change of colours wrap up on this mountain and then snow kicks in, when was your video recorded?
    - also if you know of any accomodation we can spend the night if we miss the bus back to Tokyo?

    • @rockeastwood
      @rockeastwood  4 роки тому

      Awesome. You’ll love this hike. I believe this video was shot late Oct early Nov. whatever the publish date of this video is - was the day I hiked. I haven’t seen any accommodation near the bus stop. It’s pretty remote except for the campground but to be honest I never really was looking. There very well could be a Japanese style inn but certainly no regular hotels. There isn’t even any convi near here. But don’t let that detour you! You won’t miss the bus if you start in the morning! I always get back 3pm or so. You shouldn’t have a problem, Gavin. I hope you can enjoy! Rockie

    Another wonderful vid Rockie. It looked like quite a challenging hike up Mt. Tonodake. At least you had a friend to share your experience with and it's cool she'll be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in a couple weeks. You looked pretty beat up by the time you returned to the mountain base. You're correct saying we can't take anything for granted. We have to work for for results and keep our expectations realistic. Thanks again for sharing your adventures and travels. Cheers mate!!

      I wish I can say I shared it with her - actually I barely saw her all day. She’s roadrunner and I was left behind 😊 Thank you so much, Bill-san. It was a good day to test my fitness which is sorely lacking. At least I know I have work to do lol I hate rewatching these in editing because I did see my face near the end and it was shameful haha. Got to step it up! Appreciate it.

    Kita san in the Japanese Alps is a mountain that you should hit. Amazing views. I just started seeing your videos. Started with the Hokkaido trip. I lived in Japan a couple of times including a year of College in Sapporo and had a chance to travel all over the prefecture. Amazing. I am a big outdoors person and also a gear head. If you ever do a camping car tour again, please show us around the car! Thanks again for the great videos.

      I appreciate that. Japan Alps - you're talking about serious hiking now :) Obviously these 5 were just simple day hikes near Tokyo. 100% Kamikochi, Nikko, Gunma and Gifu is where it's at but even those pale in compare-sent to say a Mt Rausu adventure into bear country. If there was a job I'd love nowhere more in the world to live than Hokkaido. I envy your experience in Hokkaido! I screwed up on the camping car video. I said I'd show around it and I totally lost my footage. Sorry about that! You're very kind Robb-san! Thank you.

    Nice one. Funny the way life works out. I showed up in Japan on a whim...a decade and a half later, long after the bright lights and boozy nights have lost their lustre, it's the damn mountains that keep me here. Just can't get enough of them.

      amen to that! I came to Japan when I was 21. I had my time on the streets. Now I'm on the presuppose of a old man the nature activities is all I see. And though I shouldn't care it annoys me when people who never been to Japan stereotype it as a giant concrete jungle (because that's all the see on TV). Perhaps we should keep the secret for ourselves then? Nah... lets spread the word! :)

    What a view from the summit! Good to hear you have weary legs and breathless lungs and it's not only me. Sometimes when you are climbing and you are tired, you wonder why you do it, then you hit the top, you look around and it all becomes so clear. I hope your friend made Kilamangro, now that is a climb. I hope she filmed it. I know what you mean about getting out of shape and then getting back out again, it's 4 weeks since my hernia operation but not been to the gym, not been swimming and no climbing. I am so looking forward to getting back in the mountains but a bit worried what my fitness levels will be lol. Great watch Rocky San, cheers Alan

      I've seriously considered retiring from hiking -- while I'm on the mountain. But then we get back to the car, get home and rest up and I'm ready to get back at it once again. It just gets harder every-time as nature is relentless on the fatigued and weary. I doubt I'be ever really get back into the shape I once was. And like you I worry about injuries or procedures. It can really slow us down and recovery begins to take longer and longer. But -- I suppose we just keep at it because we love the nature. The views and the fresh air. Thank you so much, Alan. Appreciate it good sir. Get 100% soon!

I still do skiing (50 years) in winter and a little bit of cycling in summer never been a big hiker but I do admire those who do .Going skiing ⛷ to Whistler in January whit my son and his wife and also a friend of mine , this will be my third time skiing in the Rocky Mountains .

      I love ski! Well, I snowboard but being in the mountain during winter is the best. It’s not working out if you enjoy the activity. Or it is but it’s much easier than a jog or treadmill which for me is miserable 😊 Thank you for the motivation! I hope when I’m 64 I still have the ability to stay active like you. Respect. I suppose that all depends on the choices I make now. I appreciate it!

      I can’t afford to go to Japan ....only in the Rockies on every two year and this is only since I am retired (2015) I ski here most of the time and is $225 (Can) for a season pass in Mont St-Sauveur (week days only) and I also go a few time at Mont Tremblant ($ 90 per day can)further up north (1 1\2 hrs drive) and their season pass is around $600 (Can for week days also ) .

    Thanks for sharing your outdoor experiences! Great views. Last time I climbed Tonodake via Ookura (in October) I was exhausted too. Coming down again was the hardest for legs and knees. Have you tried to climb Tonodake from the Yabitsu Pass? There is a bus stop and parking space for cars. Via Yabitsu-toge is very hard as you have to conquer different smaller mountains: up, down, up again… Yabitsu Pass (ヤビツ峠) 761m -> Ninoto (二ノ塔) 1144m -> Sannoto (三ノ塔) 1205m -> Karasuoyama (烏尾山) 1136 -> Gyoujagake (行者岳) 1329m -> Tonodake 1491m. My favourite mountain is probably Kintokiyama via the Ashigara Pass (parking space for cars): Easy climb, wonderful Fuji views & Ashinoko, Hakone views.
