    Greece?!?! You lucky person!! That’s why I love going to the Oregon coast! Just plant me a chair on the beach so I can sit and listen to the waves! So relaxing! You have a beautiful place!

    Hey Izzie, what a thoughful gift from Marieanne . Hmmm you're going to Greece I was there last September with my daughter spent most of the days touring Crete, wanted my daughter to get to know my birthplace. We ended our trip in Athens. You will love it. Back to sewing i really like the colour , one of my faves, and fabric design of that sleevless shirt you're sewing can't wait to see it made up. Have a great week and 'Yiassou' ( greek greeting for either hello or goodbye)

    I recently took the fitting class from Whitney at TomKat Stichery. It was well worth the cost. I think that’s a key to get really helpful information is to pay for it. I appreciate your videos. I think you offer good information.

    • @dizzyquiltsandsews
      @dizzyquiltsandsews  2 місяці тому +1

      Thank you so much! I also took Whitney’s class and it helped a little but I still struggle to identify what the issues are. Her class was very helpful fixing the issues - she has great resources for making the adjustments, but diagnosing the problems is where I need more.

  • @adriennefranklin5986
    @adriennefranklin5986 2 місяці тому +2

    I think that is a great idea for your vlogs to include your fit journey. I think for me it's sometimes hard to watch videos where someone seems to sew everything straight out of the pattern with no adjustments. I tend to think,"what's wrong with me that I can't get things to fit?"
    I think the hardest thing about fitting is identifying the problem.

    • @dizzyquiltsandsews
      @dizzyquiltsandsews  2 місяці тому +2

      Oh my goodness yes Adrienne!! I’ve said that to myself so many times! I do have some patterns where I have to do minimal adjustments, but overall, I have to make at least one or two tweaks. Fingers crossed we are all able to figure some stuff out! Xx

    Definitely fitting! I can learn to sew almost any fabric if I take the time to figure out the stitch, tension, needle, etc. and techniques like French seams, darts, are achievable with practice, but fit is different with every pattern, different with every pattern designer, different with every style, fabric makes a difference, too - it can feel overwhelming but it's the deal breaker when it comes to whether you actually wear the garment you planned and made. Love your new friend and was laughing at how you immediately called her "her" instead of "it!" Hope she will be a very good friend to you 😀! Love the top you are making - it's fun when a color we didn't think would work, works - more options! Also loved the video at the end - just beautiful - a little vacation while I was making dinner and watching your video!

    • @dizzyquiltsandsews
      @dizzyquiltsandsews  2 місяці тому

      Oh my goodness - I read your comment and yes, yes, yes!! That's the most important part of making garments and yet the most frustrating sometimes!

  • @ErinSews
    @ErinSews 2 місяці тому +1

    I agree that the amount of fit information is overwhelming. Also I’ll say that I’m a very tactile learner so I find it hard to just watch something and thus end up YouTubing as I encounter problems, rather than researching ahead of time. PLUS I’m scared of cascading issues. If I fix one thing, will it make two more “problems” that didn’t exist before?
    The footage of the river is LOVELY and I can see why it’s your favorite spot. I think your plans for next week are perfectly ambitious. Oh and your Greek vacation sounds amazing!! Yay for you and Mariann!

    • @dizzyquiltsandsews
      @dizzyquiltsandsews  2 місяці тому

      Oh my goodness yes re: the cascading issues!! I know I should start with length adjustments first and THEN make width adjustments, but I really don’t want to have to make 2 or 3 muslins before I can get a garment I can wear!! I’m so excited about Greece… can’t wait!

  • @kgflcreations
    @kgflcreations 2 місяці тому +1

    Omg Izzy, I also have pants on my list “forever”, and it keeps being pushed aside. I am positive it is because of avoiding the “fit issues“ that come along with sewing pants. And, we move into something that is easier to fit 🤣🤣🤣. What a great birthday gift!! The water is so relaxing 💕💕

    • @dizzyquiltsandsews
      @dizzyquiltsandsews  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes! So much easier to fit a top isn’t it? Pants are super easy to sew, but really difficult to fit.

  • @SewMyTime
    @SewMyTime 2 місяці тому

    Loving the Gilbert and look forward to the tutorial for the facing. I am lucky I do not have meant fit issues as long as there are bust darts. I get frustrated trying to get the finish “perfect” or at least keep improving but don’t always achieve that. Glad you had a lovely birthday and good to see you excited about your dress form. I have “Florrie” to keep me company 😂😂😂. You are so lucky to have such a wonderful relationship with your daughter and your vacation sounds fabulous- no green eye here ( well not much😂). Thanks for sharing your special island. 😊 Happy Sewing. Lynne

    • @dizzyquiltsandsews
      @dizzyquiltsandsews  2 місяці тому

      Thank you Lynne! I know what you mean about a « perfect » finish. To be honest, I don’t usually worry too much about the insides of my garments. I do finish my seams because I don’t want the garments to come undone in the wash, but I don’t usually bother with any hand stitching and stuff like that. Life is too short! 🤣 I am incredibly lucky to have a daughter who enjoys hanging out with me and I cannot wait for our trip! Xx 💞

    Izzy you will love your new sewing friend! Make sure you use a bra on her along with any additional padding. It’s not perfect but very helpful. Really like the top you’re working on, I’d call it chartreuse.

    I'm looking forward to watching your progress Izzy. Love you, your content and your videos. Seeing you walk through the fitting and sewing process as an instructional expert and not a professional fit expert I think will be awesome. If you can comment, which you probably will, on why the particular fabric worked or didn't for the patterns, that will be great too. I got the gray in my last Think Pink box which is not my color so thinking I should use it for pants and put a better color for me next to my face. xx Karen

    @socarole66 2 місяці тому +1

    Of course you will achieve your plans! Like you I don't have weekends anymore but luckily I don't have a job (other than childcare of course 😂)
    Re fitting. The issue is as you say, so much conflicting opinions out there and also what will work for one pattern may not work for others. We all have different bulges and lumps! Also you could make something in a fabric that fits, make it again in a different fabric and not work. I think we have to learn to embrace the drag lines and if it comfortable and you can wear it then be contented with that. For years I bought stuff from shops that was too long, too short, too tight around the bust, hung off my shoulders etc and I didn't really notice! No one I see in my daily life ever comments on my clothes hence I never focus on being the 'perfect' fit.
    Having said all that, your videos will certainly help people that need to tweak a pattern to get the garment to fit for them to be comfortable, well done for doing that.
    Thanks for the river footage, I could sit by a river for hours and watch water, there is something about its continuity and raw natural power isn't there ❤ Have a good weekend xxx

    • @dizzyquiltsandsews
      @dizzyquiltsandsews  2 місяці тому +1

      I completely agree with you re: fitting. I don’t mind a drag line here and there, but I do want to get a better fit than what I can get from ready to wear. Otherwise why even bother sewing garments 🤣 The river is amazing… I could never live somewhere where I couldn’t be near the water from time to time. Hope your weekend is off to a great start! Xx 💞

    Hi Izzy belated birthday greetings 🎉 what a thoughtful gift! I don't have curves so could probably use a fencepole lol my main issue is a 34" inside leg I'm so happy to finally wear long trousers I make rather than cropped ready to wear haha.
    I also love using sheets for quilt backs. Here in the UK the proper wide backing is soo pricey. I either buy a sheet or wide sheeting fabric. I bought a whole 12 metre roll of flannel when I finally found some so thats currently sat patiently waiting to be used...xx

I have yet to conquer tops because I have a large abdomen and narrow shoulders. Love Notions block is all wrong for me. I like your new Gilbert. Not sure about the color. I have to see it on. • @Ali.S.25
    @Ali.S.25 2 місяці тому

    Yes, I would love to see how you make fit adjustments. As a beginner, I get confused about which adjustment to make. I have narrow shoulders and can’t figure out if I should do a narrow shoulder adjustment or make a smaller size in the shoulders and grade out for the bust. Some people say to make the smaller size and do an FBA. Confusing! And don’t get me started on unusual patterns like the Newport top. I have it fitting well except for the shoulders and I can’t figure out how to do a narrow adjustment with the facings. Watching your fit process will be helpful. Oh, and for some reason the name Maxine popped into my head for your dress form. No idea why.😅

    • @dizzyquiltsandsews
      @dizzyquiltsandsews  2 місяці тому

      Yes - narrow shoulders just confuse me even more too!! I think for the Newport, you just have to make it and adjust for your next one LOL I made it, it turned out big at the shoulder but perfect at the bust. So I know I need to start at a 16 in the shoulders, grade to 18 at the bust. But yeah, it's all trial and error really.

    With fit, the biggest problem I can think of is the differences occurring in pattern designers. One might be based on a 5’4 person with a weight of 120 and then another one 5’7’ with a weight of 120. I believe Marie from My Bucolic Life had a tutorial about padding your dress for.

    • @dizzyquiltsandsews
      @dizzyquiltsandsews  2 місяці тому

    I think that would be really useful knowing what adjustments you make. I am busty with narrow shoulders and a big bum and what I call my ‘hysterectomy tummy’. I find many of the problems are if you size up for your bust the whole garment is bigger. Big boobs don’t necessarily mean that you are bigger everywhere else. That’s why I love cashmerette patterns. I will be interested how you use your new friend as well as I have one but don’t use it much at the moment.
