It's crazy to think Tamzin Merchant was 24 years old playing 17 year old Katherine Howard and Sarah Bolger was 17 years old playing 24 year old Mary Tudor.
@@lilovs9952True, but after everything she had been through up to that point, this probably didn’t register much on Mary I’s radar in comparison short of loosing the servants. Honestly after dealing with the crap Henry and Anne threw at her alone (like not being able to go to own mother’s funeral), this interaction with probably wasn’t even an after thought.
Honestly I'm with Mary on this one, In a very protestant and reformd England where you were being forced to live, I'd also have that attitude. Espcially if a teenager much younger than me is in a higher ank than me.
Ironically, Catherine Howard represented the Catholic interests at court. That is precisely why Cranmer and the Seymour brothers ultimately brought her down.

I'm pretty sure irl the real Katherine Howard held more decorum than this portrayal. But yeah, she and Mary did not get along, and their argument did end with the crown removing 2 of Mary's ladies so that Lady Mary would...'behave.'
@@MargaretMcLaughlin-c7dthat would sum up Katherine Howard. She was so so young and as far as we know behaved like a spoiled brat, thinking her looks would be enough.
This Katherine Howard is ridiculous. The actress is playing her like she’s in Heathers or some other teen movie. Katherine was young but I doubt if she acted like that.
@@nathanandcaraparryWhat she was brilliant in The Tudors. She's nothing like this in real life. She's supposed to be acting like a little girl because the character is naive. Oh absolutely, he was dazzled by her looks and she was fun, vivacious and just the thing a man in midlife crisis thought he wanted. If he kept her as a mistress instead of marrying her it would have been better for everyone.
Queen Catherine of Aragon was directing battles while her husband the king was abroad. Yes for a consort, queen, such things, instead of ruling and being a role model for her people can be seen as frivolous and not worth the position.
@@benjalucian1515 You're right! A person can't possibly like clothes and dancing SOME of the time! Rulers NEVER have downtime! Before when previously listening to this scene, I thought mary was rather truthful, but upon retrospection, she was quite cruel in a brazenly misogynistic fashion to her step mom.
It's probably just to demonstrate how much younger she is in comparison to much of the cast. Instead of hiring new actors to portray age, they tried to keep the same ones the entire time. You can age them up and still come out with them looking pretty youthful. So looking like a 12 year old isn't historically accurate, but here it's socially accurate.
Because at the time people, men and women started taking adult roles as young as 15 if not 14. Men sent to war, ruling over castles, working in the mines and fields, women getting married and bearing children. She was 17 and married for a little while now, perfectly normal at that period in history for people to expect her to be pregnant. And in fact we are much more fertile at 16/17 than say 25 so it's very easy to get pregnant at 17.
Honestly in these scene it looks like Mary is trying to warm Katherine what her future is because shes seen it over and over

Bruh that was insane. To me Sarah really looked older than Tamzin
This is just a show BUT Henry was obviously an egotistical idiot being an infirm old man marrying a little girl and making her queen.
I love Tamzin Merchant she did such a great job portraying a teenage Queen!❤ and Sarah Bolger was perfection as Princess Mary Tudor❤
My husband popped in while I was watching one of these scenes and I kid you not he goes "she acts like a bratty teenager" and I said "she is" 😂😂😂😂
We know why you love her, as do we all.
Mary knew nothing was gonna happen to her ….
Not when your Grandparents were the two Spanish Monarchs & ur cousin is the Emperor 😆
Actually, lots happened to her. She was mistreated, humiliated, slapped and put aside several times. You two must be thinking of another mary

She may grow old without a husband, but at least she'll have her head...

Is it just me or did everyone in ‘The Tudors’ seem so unrealistically good looking for the era?

Agree. Not a documentary on certain historic events but modern, very commercial series designed to be attractive to the audience
That and they didn't have the makeup that we do..
The the premise of a bodice ripping drama. Everyone is suppose to be hot, modern, and messy lol.
If you put the actual unattractive people in the film, you won't watch the movie, and they would be broke.

This scene here, btw Mary and Catherine Howard, was a reflective version btw Catherine of Aragon and Anne Bolyen. ❤

The characterization of Katherine is almost comedic ; who thought direction like this was a good idea ? It bloody well wasn't!
Well she is meant to be a teenager
@violetlavi2207 of that descent and of that time period it's just not believable a young lady of this status would behave like this

Read "Romeo and Juliet". Juliet 's mother made a remark at what age she gave a birth to Juliet. Happened then and happens now. Unfortunately.
