Killer test. The amount of effort you put into it is commendable!
This test is the best I have seen. Thanks for your effort
Anything below Catalina is golden. Apple’s new Mac softwares are trash in comparison to what’s before. No 32 bit support, bugs, overheating, and the updates are huge for no reason.
Hello. So for an old macbook air 2012 with 4GB RAM you wouldn't advise to update with Catalina ? What if there is no usage of 32 bits software?
I just replaced the screen of this old laptop that i haven't been using for 8 years. Now seems to work perfectly. I am trying Sierra OS. But i wonder if getting Catalina would be better. Knowing that i will only use it for web browsing and some light photos maybe.
If you have the time to make a comment thank you very much.
I know this is a difficult request, but battery life comparison would be amazing.
Keybi I wouldn’t. I have a couple late 2012 iMac. I tried Mojave and Catalina and in both systems it was very slow. My solution: I left Mojave installed on one, and downgraded to Sierra. Sierra is by far faster. However you should change your hard drive for an SSD. That way you could have even Catalina installed and have decent speed. (I’m doing that soon)
@@Asdftorga hey Luis.. do you know if downgrading my macbook air mid 2012 from big sur to either Catalina, Mohave or High Sierra will improve it's battery performance? I have used the big sur patch on my MacBook air to install big sur and the performance is not bad, but battery life sucks.. I have even replaced my old battery for a new one, but I still get maximum 2 hours of use.
@@jpedrovianna I remember my Macbook pro having its best battery life with Sierra and High Sierra. However, due to compatible apps, I’m on Big Sur at the moment. Battery life is not too bad but boy, it does overheat a lot, even when closed.
@@Asdftorga yeah, my macbook air was always overheating with big sur, before downgrading it back to Catalina
@@jpedrovianna battery is best in high sierra ( 10-12 hours) i downgraded from mojave ( 4-5 hours) and never installed any update of Mac os
So I worked for a month or so on Mojave, before Sierra. I did another test running Sierra on my SSD external HD. It's really night and day. I am currently switching back to Sierra. In my opinion the best, snappiest MacOS for the MBP late 2013.
Is still safe to used old macOs ?
@@nikiAndy_ absolutely!
Really love your efforts to make this video!!!
MBP 2017 13 Esc Ver.
Thank you! Great comparison! Will you add Big Sur! It would be awesome!
Great work, thank you for taking the time to do this
Great job! Mojave FTW! 💚
Is the king of kings
Great video. I'll stick with Mojave!
installed mojave today , then stumbled onto this video
i feel good now
big sigh of relief as was going to go straight to catalina
but i mostly use my device for downloading , watching things , and surfing the web
i think mojave will be fine for my day to day for now
i have a imac late 2015 so i can also get monterey if decide to later on
Mojave doesn't support Kody media player and all its awesome unofficial movie add ons (the Crew), main reason i went for Catalina
great job. I think it would be better if you mention mbp early 2015 in headline.
Well done! Keep going.
Very use full thank you so much bro!
Thank you. Love the music too 😊!
In my pc, Mojave seems faster than Catalina. Probably some drives are not updated in Catalina. I see here in majority of the tests, Mojave is superior...very strange!
amazing job, thank you!
Awesome reviews! How is Big sur vs Catalina for this same 2015 MBP early 8gb model?
This test is really great and specifies right all parts cpu gpu... for my opinion, Mojave is the best for macbooks from the year 2015 and onwards
nice soundtrack man!
Great test, thanx for efforts.
Awesome! Thank you for your effort!
Super Test
Yan Bondarenko thank you
I ask a Small question
How did he turn on the dark mode in high Sierra ?
The Mojave is the best, thanks
Lots saying this bro
finally, someone mac slower than mine!
keep up the good work for next version of catalina. by the way why not el capitan and yosemite? i successfully install yosemite on macbook air 2017 come with high sierra, still running yosemite
because yosemite and el capitan doesn't support many new applications and doesn't fully support iOS (ipadOS) devices.
@@Sgt_Rash and the security ability isn't as good as the new ones
Can you do a speed test between Catalina & Big Sur!
that would be great!!
Done
Awesome!! Thank u so much!
great test! thanks!
Could you consider doing a battery test in the future as well?
Great test. But which one of macOS won?
Mojave, it is optimal in regards of features and speed.
High Sierra is the sweet spot.
Mojave actually
@@galeftube ...Nah. High Sierra is the most stable version

Hello. Thanks for the great testing video. Can you tell me what will be the fastest os for a late 2015 27" iMac with 24 GbRam and i5 processor? Usage: graphic design, Adobe software, Netflix and Chrome with many tabs. :) Thank you.
High Sierra for maximum 32 bit support. Mojave for overall stability and functionality (it still has support for 32 bit apps but not all so some apps will have some weird things.)
Hi pls tell me which os is better for my mid 2012 macbook pro ?
El capitan
Tnx buddy ❤️
I have an Early 2015 MacBook Pro 13”. i7, 16GB RAM. Not many apps installed and a lot of disk space. Big Sur runs slow. What OS should I choose? Sierra appears to boot up super fast and nice.
Thanks!
Mojave or Catalina
Mojave. For Imovie ull have to find an old version
@@Mopsie Catalina does not have 32-bit support, Mojave would be better. I installed Big Sur and will have to go back to Mojave or High Sierra. MacBook Pro late 2013 retina, 8gb ram.
I have the same maxed 2015 like you and i run catalina. Smooth
@@MrTurkeybags I eventually decided to sell it because prices started falling down and I didn't want to lose too much on it.. Moved to a ThinkPad running Linux(OpenSUSE).
This certainly isn't the last time I will own a MacBook. Looking forward to getting an M1 once the support across apps for it gets wider!
I already installed macOS X Sierra (10.12.6) on iMac Retina 4k 21.5 2017. But it looks original version and also HFS+ is still existing!
thanks
another video including bigsur!
*laughs in Yosemite.*
why laughs?
@@liebert464 Because he can. For now))
Laughs in macOS 9
Although as I remember they tweaked the animation speed starting from El Capitan, so the workflow might feel faster. I hate Yosemite, since it reminds me of my hackintosh days.
If you have a MacBook Pro 2013, just go for High Sierra and be happy!
Or Mojave
Test would be best if you compare the performance of the system, lest say 4 desktops + 10 apps per desktop, desktop switch, apps switch, RAM usage, etc.
Boot Time:
Sierra: 1
Catalina: 2
High Sierra: 3
Mojave: 4
@Vespr nope but 2 like catalina
@@hamzaelk2304 Big Sur used to boot slower on my old 15" 2014 MBP maxed out except the storage at 512GB and 15" 2012 non-retina MBP. Like 5-8 sec slower. I can't check it now on my new M1 mac because it doesn't support anything before Big Sur which is unfortunate since I liked the speed and design of older MacOS. Especially El Capitan or Mavericks I think looked dope and started quick.
Mojave is a sweet spot. Hang in there guys/girls! :)
Mojave’s is good but I am poor
Micro Legions meh it would be nice but sometimes the sidecar feature comes handy
Micro Legions I’m downgrading from Big Sur atm and take my advise!
Don’t update to it!
No matter what version you’re running
It FEELS slower even if it isn’t
@@falcy2889 It also drains the battery as hell, I think they worked optimising it for M1 Macs only. I didn't upgrade since I know each update makes your laptop or iPhone slower. The best system to use is the one that is installed when you buy a product.
Mojave it’s the latest to support 64 and 32bits apps so much better compatibility.
Catalina vs Big sur?

This is great, thank you. Overall - what would i be missing for working with Sierra? Is it huge difference in terms of support?
I'm working with a Macbook Pro 13 mid 2012 with Sierra (SSD Hyperx Fury 240gb + 16gb ram) and the only problem that i'm currently having is that some apps are not available for 10.12, as geekbench for example. Overall, performance is well but i'm considering High Sierra now.

super. so which is the best overall besides speed? heat? battery life?
lol you are so dumb and operating system don't change the battery life, its the battery in your Mac Book that change the battery life.

Guys, I have mac mini mid-2010. Processor - 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. Memory - 2Gb 1067 MHz DDR3. Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256MB. Currently, it has 10.11.6 El Capitan. It is pretty laggy, and needs like ~9 minutes to fully turn on and start working at max speed. I'm considering upgrading to Mojave (it's the fastet according to the video, right?) due to the most apps not supporting 10.11.6. What do you think, is it gonna become 2x or 3x laggier or the changes won't be significant? I really need help.
Mojave FTW!
High Sierra ran best for me on my MacBook Pro 2015. Battery life is super stable and apps run extra smooth.
Agreed
Better than sierra? I’m wondering if gaming is better on high sierra than sierra.
Did you also try mojave? And if High sierra worked faster than mojave?

Ok! I’ll stay on Mojave then thank youuuuuuu

What is the best os for a mid 2012 MacBook pro??.Upgraded to ssd 1 terabyte and 16 g ram..Thanks
Sierra maybe...
If you want best compatibility with new features and devices: MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 or Catalina 10.15.6 (native supported) or perhaps use a patch tool to get Big Sur (Monterey is also possible but it's a bit new so patchtools and compatibility may be not ideal)
If you want a good balance between speed and still supported apps, especially 32 bit apps: MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 or High Sierra 10.13.6
If you can live with older applications but regularly use the web: El Capitan 10.11.6 with up-to-date Chrome and certificate fix.
If you want absolute speed, maybe nostalgia vibe and don't use internet regularly: Mountain Lion 10.8.5 or Mavericks 10.9.5 with Waterfox classic browser and certificate fix.
In my experience I would avoid Yosemite as it's slower than Sierra and yet has less features.
Make your choice.

hi, i will buy a MacBook Pro 2012 13“mid soon. I will upgrade it with 16 GB and a better SSD (Samsung) and the battery. It's also my first MacBook so I don't know my way around. Which MacOS system should I use, will just be browsing insta and watching UA-cam / Netflix. Also a few school activities Word, ... Thanks in advance
Hello! I've been using a Macbook Pro 13 mid 2012 with Sierra (SSD Hyperx Fury 240gb + 16gb ram) since 2017 and it performs really well. I use this device to work on creative projects (mostly Adobe) that demands highly. The only issue that now i'm having is that some apps are not available for 10.12. So, i'm researching if High Sierra could negatively affect the performance of this old laptop. Which OS are you using?
@@romigoletto I have the same machine and I am still running Mavericks. I am looking to update however because a few programms are now out of support and I always have to use the web versions of things... Did you try high sierra?
And for a Mac Pro from late 2013 with 6 cores at 3.5ghz and 64gb of ram, ssd flash, do you know which OS would be better? I have Sierra and I'm thinking of upgrading to Mojave, Catalina and Big Sur I can't because of the music environment ... The question is 10.12.6 vs 10.14.6? :D PS: And for thunderbolt 2 external hard drives that are not ssd, is apfs or hfs + better?
You can stay on Sierra, I think it doesn't worth the upgrade to Mojave as long as you don't want to use the new features which are basically just the black theme. As for ssds I think better to take hfs+ as they both show identical results in speed tests, although I think you might have problems of recognising a new Apfs running Sierra, but I don't know exactly about that.
If Sierra is still serving you well, then stay on it. But if you need to update then Mojave only. Catalina and Big Sur are garbage.

High Sierra is the newest MacOS you can run on your 2011 mac natively. You could use a patch tool to get Mojave or Catalina but even then it would run slower since it's not optimized for 2011 macs and you won't have GPU acceleration since the AMD GPU's aren't metal capable. Better to stick with El Capitan, Sierra or High Sierra if I were you.
