#sitstanddesk #Desky #Desk - Наука та технологія
The main problem with motorized sit/stand desks in an engineering office is that other engineers like to install a secret remote control and then terrorize you with random movements.
More sinister... Slowly raise the desk one pulse every minute.
😂 my first thought… and then it’s the fist comment. lol 😂
Place I used to work had ones that were controllable by Bluetooth that lead to much shenanigans.
Dave and his family members were so excited they forgot all about the duty cycle on the controller!
We had a pallet of those sit/stand desks get delivered by mistake at the beginning of the lockdown in 2020, contacted and told the company they had been delivered by mistake and nothing to do with us and after a few back and fourth emails never heard anything. Still have the pallet sat on our racking 🤣 Same controller as Dave has but only single motors. I guess one day we will either dump them or find a use for them lol
I put together half a dozen ikea desks like this recently, besides that fancy display and presets, very much identical
The IKEA UPPSPEL has the same display and presets.
This one is made in China and they likely provide the same product to a lot of Brand Name companies.
Ikea has lost a lot of its shine, a lot of their stuff is chinese OEM rebadged now
@@marcogenovesi8570 A lot of their desks use LINAK frames. That's really good stuff, made in Denmark. It won't be labeld LINAK, but a dead giveaway is the label font/style, if there is any such label on there: www.iveindhoven.com/wp-content/uploads/Linak-DL2X-Electric-table-lifting-frame-4.jpg
Damn... How old is Sagan now?
12
haha, awesome thumbnail, big thumbs up to Mrs eevblog :)
I have one of the longer versions of that table and it's been great.
Damn cool! Almost the whole family featured :). Nice desk and nice work figuring it out.
I definitely want something like that and i miss building things with my dad.
Miss eevblog cracks me up..
That’s a right old rats nest of cables there Dave.
I'm quite proud of it.
I have two Ikea Idasen sit-stand desks. Really a game changer and a very good deal.
Something that helped me I mounted a power strip under the desk with a 9m cord, so all my wires don't have to stretch. Also, grab some long ethernet cords as well. Possibly a cable race for cable management.
I haven't watched the channel in a very long time. I remember Sagan as a little baby, almost unable to speak. How strange it is that they grow up...
Very nice, Dave. I know what you mean about the heavy motorized legs! I got a new Secret Lab Magnus Pro XL a couple weeks ago... HEAVY !!
Its only an executive decision if the executive is aware of the option!!
12:35 around 2 meters
I can tell you, as someone that has one of these at work, wedged between other desks and overhanging prototype machinery, that the door-knob and the desk will form an intimate relationship whenever you aren't looking. You will hear the crunching sounds though. ;)
Well, the Desky desk seems to be from the same manufacturer like the ones I built up. Some tear down photos at the end (the Bonustrack): ua-cam.com/video/YC4XagtTsGI/v-deo.html
IKEA sells this desk as UPPSPEL with a different top. It's available in 140cm and 180cm width.
Very nice table, i would love to have one, very useful and convenient for all kind of uses and jobs, i like how the metal part is built, seems pretty solid and stable, those linear actuators are pretty fast for their job, however i think someone didn't think enough about the cabling length they could just provide like 1 meter cable from each motor and get rid of the extensions...
I also have one of these desks and the measurements on their site for the swing down cable tray are wrong, and have been so for nearly two years now. Even after I informed them of it. My dealings with their support team were FAR from impressive.
@@LemmingGoBoom Shame on them, only profits matters
I've added motorized feet to both my computer and electronics bench. Best update to the lab!
Looks like "standard" Linak connectors.
There is Bluetooth as well.
And do follow instructions, they have thought the steps thru so you get cablemanagement and everything in the right place.
Hello, Congratulations Cool 👍👏👏👏
Do I only see it coming up completely crooked? Or is it because I live in Pisa and I still see everything crooked anyway?
TWO 'that's what she said's!
If you get the under desk cable management then those wires all neatly tuck away.
Missed out on swappig the leveling feet with the OG couch feet...
Now Dave just needs to super charge it! Full range of motion in 0.25 seconds!
Yeah Dave nice cool looking desk there if the wife's happy it must be great
I'm trying to figure out what the RJ11 jack is for. I have a couple sets of these that I'd like to use on a huge table, and I wonder if they can run in sync. But I can't find any documentation from any of the multitude of brands these are sold by that show what that jack is for.
who will win? the doorknob, the door or the desk? Bets are accepted.
Next project remote control of electric desk height?
Holy shit Sagan is a big dude already. I saw him as a toddler, I feel old.
Top dad.
That's super neat. Would certainly help when I need to be back and forth between the computer and work table. Hard to tell but could it accidentally catch the doorknob? I know your family is careful, but f you have other kids over often you may want to put a doorstop on the hinge to keep the desk from taking the knob off. May not be a bad idea just to keep the door itself from getting a few smacks.
The desk will detect that it's hit an obstacle and stop. They generally monitor the current draw from the motors and if it spikes they'll stop and back off in the opposite direction, crushing your customer's legs is bad for business.
How do you know his family is careful?
I find maximum height useful for cleaning under the desk.
Not to be used by unauthorized personnel == the polite way of saying "Not to be operated by f*ckwits" :)
i have a desk here of a very similar general design (* i.e.with 2 legs)... however these are not ideal for mounting a microscople onto. for the thing wobbles about 'too much'. and this is of course more tolerable at lower mags. but still... the better style for these is a more expensive aka 'premium' or otherwise 'higher load' models... that has a proper 4 legs. one under each corener of the desktop. there's only a couple of models / brands kicking about and they generally cost in excess of $700 or $1000 usd. however they should wobble very significantly less amount. which is a boon for microscope users. who want a more stable surface to work upon. highly recommended if you have the dough to pony up for one. but admittedly it is indeed quite a lot more money. and not everybody can stretch to the budget for that... a typical 2 legs desk still can work, its just more annoying / more aggravating to deal with those unwanted disturbances. causing disruptions when the view is shaken around
Does the firmware 'enforce' the duty-cycle to prevent burn-out?
was waiting for the power cable to pull the socket out of the wall before the end of travel
load it up with scopes, meters, PSUs , computer , printer etc. How much weight will it move?
A few thoughts - 1800mm long? You beauty. Most standing desks are quite a bit smaller. For the actuators, I'm quite sure those are the industrial lego linear actuators with a gear reduction from a motor to a lead screw (the sort that will pop up when you google 'linear actuator'). Curious they put the duty cycle on the power supply, given that is a requirement of the actuators, not necessarily the PSU. Not too sure how/why they would fail, but if you purchase one of those actuators, they are often rated 12V and have a 1 min on/10 min off spec. Lastly, I'm interested in the use of what looks like 6-pin PCIe connectors for the actuators. Haven't seen those used for anything other than a graphics card.
Those are standard Molex connectors.
This (and lots others) are somewhat clones of LINAK solutions. They use the 6pin mini-fit jr series of connectors. IIRC there's two pins for high power, then there's a 5v and gnd, and two hall signals. The duty-cycle is the PSU, because the PSU also has the h-bridges in them, and those are what's duty-cycle limited. It's why there's a DC port. You can get a battery pack for them for a wireless setup.
..... Door handle left in the path of lift, Dave adds new door stop to floor.
How exactly do these lifters work? I'm guessing a pair of screws in each leg?
I had a bad habit of going to a colleagues desk to pour over some technical drg's with them and leaning on the buttons accidentally!
Dave that desk looks crooked did you put a bubble meter on it or is the picture on the wall is that is crooked? maybe do the Malteser test Anyway apart from being a desk that would make a perfect Big screen Tv table imagine putting a sofa in that office and then raising the desk up for Big Tv moments you can get large computer monitors now like 31.9" Monitors plenty big for a small room like that.
I notice the foot is exactly look like IKEA UPPSPEL desk. I got myself a broken one with a death 32V rail.
A lot of these motorised legs looks similar. For a moment I he had bought Linak DL5 legs. Because they looked kinda similar except for the rounded corners on the motor housing.
Did the power management bit have to be in the center? If it was at one end then the short able would have been ok and the long cable would have been practical.
Yes, that's where the mounting screws are.
The 125 setting is for people like Olivier Richters; the Dutch Giant, so he can actually sit when using this desk ; )
did you use the app
OMG your boy has grown... makes you feel old :)
Indeed.
Oh, wow. I remember seeing Sagan as a babe in arms! So tall now, and growing up by the minute.
Bigger than Mrs EEVblog now!
I built a 200x80x3.8 top of beech onto a dual motor frame for half that price. OK, I had to drill my own insets 😞
Wood was 140. mechanism 175 all euros. Have to say I like it mind.
Sit .... Standing is for getting ready to walk away, or the moment after arrival, before sitting.
The REAL magic of the ball-end allen key is shown when you try to put final torque on the fastener using the ball end. A puff of smoke and you have a slightly shorter key, or the hex recess rounds out, and the screw can never be removed without carbide or carborundum :)
But it's so worth it when you laugh because it happens to Sagan!
Kinda wild to see how blatant of a copy the control box and legs are of the Linak solutions 😅 Linak can't compete on the cost tho, and they're terrible at being consumer facing.
DESKY - Polacy tam byli :D
I love how you and your Son do these things together. My Dad was stuffy, boring, knew nothing about technology or building things, insisted I did boring things that I had no interest in, wouldn't make any edgy jokes, etc.. Interesting video, I love the desk! I don't read instructions either - But mostly because they're always too small for my aging eyes to read. Some day I'll get around to getting myself some glasses.
Sit!
Stand!
1:18 Those desks aren't cheap, cant they be bothered to stick it straight?
Oh cut it just as he was going to show the pre set options
Mrs. Evie Blog
I don't understand why these tables exist. Office chairs are height adjustable. It makes more sense.
The motors look like robot feet
It's cool but I prefer to sit down unless At a workbench where you have to move, such as upholstery or wood working etc. I get sitting on your arse all day and or standing up all day.
If you bought this one at Aldi then good luck next time you bump into Dick Smith! He hates Aldi!!
Brought it direct from Desky.
@@EEVblog2 We only have Officeworld and they want 3 times the Aldi price! May have to settle for a hand cranking one.
That's why she said what, Dad? Why does she prefer an increased size, doesn't she know that small things like me are fun too?
I need to complain about those motors which say 230v 50Hz. They're 30v motors. Why do so many companies lie like this?
1:27 Meh. Reasonable, but I've seen ones with higher load capacity on market.
