Very good move from you protecting the other cyclist. Sadly a lot of people won't understand why you did it, and will be mad at you.
I dont think the guy on the santander bike even noticed sadly. Always come across similar folks who are often stuck in their own world, have very poor road awareness or just tourists who thought it would be a fun way to tour the city.
The situation isnt ideal but if we all use the roads, we should have a duty of care (or some level of care) and consideration for more vulnerable road users. Granted a lot of people do but at the same time others wont.
good work. nobody should be operating a two tonne vehicle with this little empathy for other road users.
Do these drivers never think about how they would stop in time if the cyclist fell off or was hit by another road user in front of them.
I've had driving licence since 1964. My personal opinion is, most motorists/ van drivers/ motorcycles/ taxis etc, individually somehow believe/think, their journey is more important/vital, that anyone on the Road at that time ( just saying )

I think the mistake you made there was not reviewing the new Deed the driver had to that road, and obviously not knowing it was his you mistakenly used some of it
