  • On January 1st, LEGO released two sets based off old school cameras at very different price points. While both models excite me, was releasing them at the same time a BIG mistake?

I built the Retro Camera over the weekend and its awesome! I agree that releasing them together didnt make sense. If the Polaroid ends up on sale I'll probably grab it

00:46 TLG did it on purpose, it’s meant to reflect the real price difference between an unbranded old 35mm camera and a sought after vintage Polaroid camera! 😂

I have the vintage camera from a few years back that was included as a gift and I did get the retro camera partly because it's based off of a Nikon camera and I use Nikon equipment. And although I think the Polaroid camera is cool and it's amazing that it's a 1:1 to an actual Polaroid camera I feel like the price is a bit high and I may get it on sale

Holly, great job with this review! Was thinking about the 3-in-1, but thought the small price might be underwhelming, but I’m convinced! Will wait on the Ideas one to complete the set. All seem to go well with the Ideas Typewriter, a favorite set of mine

Great review Holly. I can agree with you the Polaroid camera is a bit too expensive at the moment, I don't usually go for sets like these but they both do look great.

Until watching this video, with the picture of the Polaroid inventor… I legit thought it was supposed to be a picture of Michael Scott 😂

If you remove the slope pieces at the mouth of the polaroid camera you can have it shoot the prints out. :p Less accurate to what it's trying to reproduce where they stop halfway out but yknow, it's a bit more fun.

the Polaroid film case that you build is a remake of the actual packaging that the film tray holding them would come in and had the info on the outside until you opened it and inserted the tray into the camera for usage so often you would have many of these sitting in your draw or bag where you stored your camera

    • @HollyOnFilm
      @HollyOnFilm  5 місяців тому +5

The 3 in 1 certainly benefits from having no special parts in it, or an IP for that matter either. And being so simple and generic I think really benefitted it

I know it's a lost cause complaining about it, but LEGO dumping all these unwanted, cheap colorful parts into these sets is off-putting. I know the small camera is a 3 in 1 but still, azure and red are colors that have no business being in this set

The Polaroid set, as nice as it is, has so many issues that's nothing to do with the set itself, more so that it's very expensive for its size, costs about the same as a real working Polaroid camera itself which others have pointed out and as already mentioned here, it's four times the price of the Creator 3-in-1 set.
People got really angry with these comparisons, brushing it off as opinions but come on, it's hard cold facts that the Polaroid set is a tough swallow at the price it's at. It was just blind fanboyism and denial of the facts. This isn't the first time Lego has released a much cheaper variant of another set, where the cheaper version stole the big one's thunder.
Granted, these aren't the same comparisons as the two cameras, which are different, as these one's I'm listing off are two versions of the same thing they represent. The Batmobile Tumbler, the smaller version came out first which was so good that the larger and extremely fragile one was no longer wanted; the smaller version retired 18 months ago while the big one is still available. The smaller red Vespa came out shortly after the light blue one, and that small one was ten times less costly. And the Mini Disney Castle came out a few years after the big one, which was a lot smaller but very nicely detailed and much less costly.

Why buy a working polaroid camera for $90 when you can buy a replica that does nothing.
Truly one of the sets of all time.

It blows my mind how expensive it is, but more so why Australia got this and the Xmen so much cheaper by comparison. Both sets are around $20USD cheaper here and our price has tax included. One of very few times I’ve felt we have great value at retail, but for everyone else, ABSOLUTELY NOT

It should be noted that while the image of shaking the polaroid is iconic, it didn't develop the picture any quicker. You actually damaged the photo as it was developing. Look at any of those photos, and if they all have orange tints to them, its not because of age, but people shaking them. Needless to say, I had fun memories with this camera in the 80's and 90's.

Camera companies are some of the most greedy, putting profit over human lives multiple times. (See Kodak and the Trinity Tests)
I feel like releasing both cameras at the same time is not a mistake but an intentional aggression pact against Polaroid for how much they're likely demanding for licensing. Like how Lego cut ties with Overwatch by starting a deal with Fortnite, but with physical product versus physical product.
