Some "nurses" should not be in that profession. So sorry. I suggest you write a letter to the administrator of the hospital. It may help the next patient.
She is playing tennis on an open sore taking pain meds and its the nurses fault? At some point you have to accept reality and take ownership of your own health. Granted she wants to play sports but at the fist sign of a problem readjust your priorities because you only have one body, accept the reality of your limitations
Pls remember: it’s Not the “Nurses” that order the labs & imaging, (work-up), nurses are not the ones making the diagnoses, or POC (plan of care)…it’s the Doctors that do this; not the “Nurses” (she even thanked the Nurses in this video)… I know that the healthcare system is broken, (shattered even) …🥺😢 it is most often difficult to navigate & too often see way too many people lost to f/u care & care coordination upon discharge from the hospital … This amazingly resilient human, presents like she has experienced a Major life altering event & loss as a consequence of professionals 😮missing critical /issues😢
Please listen to your body and don't feel you need to be so brave! Get help when you need it, take care of yourself, prioritise yourself when you need to! I'm glad you're ok. So many people die of sepsis each year and people don't realise what's wrong till it can be too late because the symptoms aren't advertised very well ❤❤❤
I'm a wound care nurse and deal with wound vacs nearly every day I work. I absolutely love them as we have healed stage 4 pressure ulcers that the docs said would never close without surgery and grafts. People underestimate how easily a wound can form and degrade. Daily skin checks, pressure relief cushions and rest (I know, easier said than done with young and active people) are imperative for skin health in any mobility impaired person.
I worked for KCI as a RN Clinical Consultant in the 1990’s. The company was still in the process of receiving Medicare approval. The paperwork involved for each patient was enormous. My territory consisted of two states and I barely was home. At that time the company still had the beds like the Triadyne used in the ICU and the “Big Boy” bed for the bariatric patients. We also had several bed surface overlay products. I introduced many many hospitals, home health agencies and nursing homes to the Wound Vac. I truly believed in the VAC because I saw how it worked. Lots of traveling, lots of teaching. We finally got approval from Medicare and the rest of the Insurance Industry fell in line afterwards. I really enjoyed working for KCI. I’m glad the VAC is still out there helping these patients 😊
@@ouiser1955 thank you for all of your tireless and thankless work! I refuse to get my RN because I will NEVER work case management. Bedside care, be it wound care or hospice, is where I belong. Comically enough, this lowly "just an LPN" is the one my company has train all the RNs. I have, coming up this August, 25 years of homemade experience, starting as an unskilled aide. My company hires RNs with tons of hospital experience but no home care experience. In the hospital, so many things are managed by specialty teams and out here, we do it all. I have seen some amazing transformations with the WoundVac on patients that the wound care Dr said would never heal and surgery was the only option. Luckily the patients tried an alternative before surgery.
So scary. My friend and I were in a car accident years ago. She passed away from a bedsore in April of 2022. You are so lucky. Glad you've got the wound vac. Thanks for spreading awareness ❤
I'm so glad you made it through this and hope you make a full recovery. I also had a scare once, and a friend of mine gave me some advice, which I'll give you too. It's definitely in no handbook, and it definitely isn't the most dignified way for women like us to get around, but it has legitimately changed my life for the better. I am 27, paralyzed at 17, and at the age of 21 I had a scare with a pressure sore. The people around me were telling me that I couldn't be as active as I wanted to be because the risk of pressure sores would be too high. I was obviously gutted, and I told my wheelchair basketball teammates that I wouldn't be able to join them anymore and gave them the reason why. Most were amputees so they didn't really get it, but after the match, a lady in her late 30s came up to me and told me that there is a last resort that I can use, which she has been using for a while now and that allows her to still be super active. She had custom, long-legged pants that cover the feet as well, with a ton of padding made for her, and she crawls on her belly through the house during the day. It's obviously not something you want to do when you're in the presence of someone else, but it is doable. I installed wood floors in my apartment and have been doing this for the last 6 years. It was very difficult at first, but I got used to it, and my upper body strength has increased dramatically. The hours you spend in your apartment, off of your bum, really make a huge difference, and I haven't had any problems with pressure sores since. If you decide to try this, which I doubt you will, just make sure your floors are always very clean and you slide easily across the wood floors. The increased upper body strength has also increased my independence as I'm not as dependent on my wheelchair for movement anymore, and I can transfer from the floor to my wheelchair with ease, which I couldn't do at all before this. Whether you take my advice or not, I wish you all the best.
Incredible!! This is tremendous 👏 I am so grateful for social media because we learn from others! I want to find the right words to convey how inspiring this story is to me. Please forgive me if I babble on and too many run on sentences ( mom would be shaking her head at Me if alive now) But I just found Sydney's posts today and I started watching her videos. I am a CNA. I see older people in my job setting. We are all learning as we go and I am so grateful for the information passed here from Sydney and others!! The Human Spirit!! Keeping going and find a way 💯 around obstacles!! ❤❤ Much love to all
Next time you aren’t feeling good please don’t push thru and do your sports or your obligations you feel you have. Listen to your body. ❤ Your life and health is more important.
You're so tough, playing a tennis tournament while septic 😅 It's insanely heroic, but please be kinder to yourself in the future, no need to prove yourself, we all know how absolutely amazing you are and "killing it" in every aspect of life ❤
Also I'm and M.D. the way the first doctor acted, it's insane she should have known right away that your life is in immediate risk and act right away, it's really basic medical knowledge 😮
Also- you should be able to get standing orders and sterile specimen cups so you can get a UA/C&S anytime you feel off. You can do a clean catch during a cath and drop it off at a local lab.
Much love and respect to you Sydney. I am an RN, and I - as well as many others - am touched by your willingness to share your life, your struggles, and your victories with us.
My father had sepsis from e coli in uti. I thought he was going to die before i could get him to the er. He was gray, vomiting, wearing a winter coat and shivering hard. His teeth were chattering so hard he could barely tell me what was wrong. He told me he hadnt peed in 3 days. I will never know why he waited till it got that bad before telling me. Thankfully the doctors took good care of him. Seriously one of the scariest things to happen in my life. I will never forget what he looked like that day.
I had sepsis from gangerene and its horrible. But i just want to say you are so tough! And your accomplishment of being in sports and even going to college amaze me. You dont let anything hold you back. You are also so beautiful. Take care of yourself and dont be afraid to ask for help , your mom and dad sound like great parents and will always be there to help you
You are strong and I’m so glad you are getting better. I can’t imagine going through all of that because what I went through was nothing compared to what you went through but I wanted to die. I had such a hard time at the emergency room this last time I was there. I was so sick and was in a wheelchair that was causing so much pain and after waiting in the waiting room for 3 hours in this wheelchair I bagged them to let me lay down and they said the only bed available was in the hallway but I was in so much pain I said yes please I’ll deal with being in the hallway. I then was ignored for another 5 hours with only an IV of fluids and I have a panic disorder and because of being in the hallway I could hear all the horrible things going on around me and a man was screaming like he was dying and I was begging them to give me anything for the pain and to give me some anxiety medicine, but was ignored. Then finally after being in the emergency room for over 10 hours they just sent me home because they said they couldn’t do X-rays in the emergency department and I would have to go somewhere else to get X-rays done. So after 10 + hours and only fluids I was sent home to wait yet even more time to get X-rays at my primary care doctor. I hate the emergency room and I can’t imagine dealing with what you went through and I’m so sorry you had to go through that but I’m so glad your mom brought you to the other place where you were able to get help. You are so strong and I don’t know how you stay so positive. Sending you hugs ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
I'm so sorry that you and your family had to suffer through such a traumatic experience... particularly the way you were treated at the first hospital. I wish the terrible nurses at that hospital could know how serious your condition was. So thankful that you are now recovering. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thank goodness you're ok. Wishing you all good things for the New Year. 💘
Your channel just randomly popped into my suggestions and now I'm learning you're in GA. My parents lived in Stockbridge for decades so I know that area well. I had a chronically sick child so I want to say ALWAYS advocate for yourself, even at a "good" hospital, because I know people who have had issues at CHOA as well. I've also learned how to help prevent infections as much as possible... daily cranberry supplement or Urinari-X for UTI and oregano oil capsules daily as well. You seem to be susceptible, so please look into this!
Piedmont needs a thorough undercover investigation by Georgia State Medical Board (whatever board its called there). Dear beautiful young lady... these places need to be called out and reported in order to prevent people after your experience there, from becoming more critically sick or worse due to the hospitals' negligence. There is zero excuse for their behavior as a whole or individual staff being belligerent and worthless. As for you.... your attitude and strength is simply otherworldly. If we all had your attitude, the entire world would be unrecognizable from the (fill in the blank) nightmare we see everywhere today. You are truly amazing, and I'm not just talking. Say it out loud to yourself in a mirror. We are all talking about YOU!!! Please be safe, be blessed and thank God for you and your family.
I’m so glad you guys decided not to stay at that first hospital because it sounds like it would’ve been a terrible idea. I’m glad whoever figured out that the weight would’ve been just as long as driving to children’s like what a good idea. Sometimes when you’re in the thick of it, you can’t always think logically, but somebody was able to.!!! I’m so glad for you and I’m also really thankful that you have such fabulous support around you!! I have only watched two of your videos so far. My daughter showed me the video about you becoming paralyzed and now I’ve watched this one. Do you have any siblings?
I know it's none of my business but I hope you're willing to hear me out. The staff at that horrific first ER are highly unlikely to ever find out that they were wrong about their masterful diagnosis. If they are never told about their mistakes, they will chalk it up to another case in their "win column".
Sydney, you have to take care of yourself, first priority! Once you have sepsis you have a higher chance to get it again. Always mention it at the hospital if and when you have to go again. as you found out sepsis is no joke. Wound vacs are the best. Unfortunately I had to request for one with my family member. Glad you got great care in the end. I hope someone spoke to the other hospital administrator. It would be important for whomever did that screening to know just how sick you were. Can’t believe the incompetency and attitude of that person.
1️⃣ first lesson in your adult life on self care and so thankful it turned out this positive. I’ve been septic before (had a picc go septic)apparently I was acting kind of drunk and crazy, and my husband finally called my mother over to observe my behavior and she called 911 immediately and thankfully so, bc I still have no memory of it all till I woke up with the worst headache in a hospital room. I got lucky that pulling my line and medication brought me out of it. It sounds like you were very lucky and I’m so grateful for your hospital team (not the first place 😡)
I have a ISCI, I have some use of my legs (left leg is bit better than my right leg) but can't walk without assistance, can't walk any real distance, so I use a walker around the house and wheelchair . I feel like I am constantly battling pressure sores, cleaning, antibiotics, etc. I get so frustrated about it. It's also a trigger for me because my ISCI was caused by a MRSA Epidural Abscess, Chronic Vertebrae Osteomyelitis, Septic Diskitis and Sepsis. I wish I could figure out how to prevent them. They cause a terrible burning sensation and can be really painful 😖. I am so glad you are feeling better. Hang in there.
Sorry you had a bad experience at that first hospital. So glad you got to a place that got you taken care of! I've dodged 2 pressure sore related sepsis episodes myself and I never want that to happen again in my life. Heal up and get back out on the tennis court and hopefully I'll get to see you play at one of these tournaments, or even get to be on the opposite side of the court!
I’m sorry this happened to you. Listen to your body. I’ve learnt now to pay attention (I’m 51) It’s smart and it warns you when something is wrong. I’m glad you got help in time. Have a lovely Christmas 🎄
New subscriber. Looking forward to your channel. Is Mike your dad? Many prayers 🙏🏻 for ✝️ 🙏🏻 you & your family. Nurse Judi in Scottsdale AZ and Eucharistic Minister.
I worked in a nursing home and I remember this one patient that had severe dementia and was fairly aggressive but they had a pressure sore that went almost to their tailbone! I was a CNA but helped the nurse every night when she would clean it and rebandage is ...I felt so bad! I also got hit be said patient quite a few times during the process (I don't blame them because they didn't understand)
I feel for you, I have nerve pain/numbness of areas like the butt and so have to watch the pressure sores, nothing like you have to deal with I'm 82 (Yesterday) with a long history of spinal stenosis with radiculopathy., I'm old and worn out not a young kid but I almost have to laugh although it's not a bit funny at all but to hear your ER story and say that sounds awfully familiar, been there done that! You know what's wrong and they try to convince you that you don't know what your are talking about even though you deal with the same thing every couple of years. They want to kick you out and then the blood work comes back and your WBC's are through the roof and they haul out the antibiotics and toss you on the MRI and it shows the blockage you told them you had and you get to say "I told you so hours ago!" I too have had everyone try to get a vein, so much fun that is. I have one good vein and I use that one to donate my semi rare blood at the Red Cross. Happy Holidays, best of luck with everything you must deal with. I admire your attitude and well, your guts, to take the punches that life has handed you and come up with a positive outlook afterwards. Good for you. You give me hope.
You are amazing! Your positive attitude is very inspiring! Bless you! You have no idea how many heartfelt wishes and prayers come your way! You’re certainly getting them from me, here in Florida! Heal well and quickly! 🤗🥰🤗🙏🙏🥰🤗
Syd, I understand what you mean about pressure sores, I used to get them, years ago, I NEVER got a pressure sore that bad , but I had some pressure sores, to where it went to sepsis!! I have a gel cushion on my chair , and I've had a gel cusion on my chair for years!! I hope you have a gel cushion on your chair!!?? I really hope that you are recovering from the sepsis and the pressure sores!!?? Much love to you and your family!!! God bless you and your family!!! Stay safe in whatever you do on a daily basis!!!! Love, your family member, friend Bob Compton from, Maryland
Seen many wound vacs. Old nurse from Michigan. Best of luck to you young lady! Always trust your gut! If u think something is wrong go in asap!!!!❤❤❤❤❤ Pls take care!!!!
Thank goodness you are still here! And thank you so much for sharing something so scary and personal. I am a retired nurse and had not realized that already one pressure sore can lead to sepsis, so I am sure many other people needed to learn this, for their own or their loved ones' benefit. Have as good a holiday season as possible! Wishing you the best.
Thank you for updating us!!! Your light and positivity helps us all so much. ✨️ every time you say how your mom calls you 'sweetie' it makes me wonder if her kindness towards you has helped you being so strong. I think along these lines because whenever I'd get sick as a child, my mom wouod make me feel sooo bad, like I was a burden and would yell at me. I don't recall any kind words towards me when i was most vulnerable and scared, so I grew up with a lot of anxiety. Anyway, thank you so much!! ❤ wishing you all the best
God’s intervention, lots of Prayers & great medical care helped save you!! God Bless them all & God Bless you now & always!! We are Now praying for complete healing after your last surgery🙏🏼✝️❤️ Love you, KiKi
God you poor baby all that plus as active of a life as you live. Be very very careful. Share as few things as possible with others and remember that your immune system is much different then most people around you. Im rooting for you!
I have been following your story and you are Truly an inspiration to me. I was diagnosed with a very fast moving, aggressive autoimmune condition that limits me, however I'm not in a wheelchair yet.--I say yet because the autoimmune condition can lead to joint damage/mobility problems. I will Keep you in my prayers & your story again is a true Inspiration in my life.🙏🏻💯
You always explain things perfectly, thank you for that. I agree with the comments. You should call out that nurse & hospital for what I would consider "malpractice" 😢
I am so impressed with you. I have for serious chronic pain conditions On Top Of The long Covid. I wish I had half your strength. I am 67 years old. I am a foreman nurse practitioner and was the nurse for over 40 years. I worked on Oregon transplant for 40 years. I did so many wonderful things as a nurse. You are so very special and I love hearing your story. I can relate with so much of what you’re saying.. may God bless you. I pray for you that all your dreams will come true.
You are a brilliant communicator, you are beautiful, you have a huge purpose! I’ve changed dressing on decubitus that you could see up a tunnel… keep preaching 😘😘😘😘🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️
Holy cow! What an experience! I agree that you are one tough cookie. I'm glad you are doing better and that you made it to that children's hospital that had all your records. Have you considered a career in medicine? You have learned so much about this area, and I have no doubt you would bring a lot of empathy to patients with paralysis and who have experienced sepsis and UTI's. Thank you for sharing this story. Cheers.
Oh, what an ordeal! God bless you with increased strength and healing, a Merry Christmas and good health and great joy in the New Year in Jesus' Holy Name, Amen!
Thank you for sharing this Sydney ❤️ Sepsis can happen so fast. I have an autonomic disorder, and I get staph infections super easy. A tiny wound can turn deadly if you ignore it. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas in spite of it all ❤
I get MRSA sores all the time and am a carrier so I understand that I used to self harm and that’s when it all started I’ve had huge abscesses before that drain for weeks it really can happen to quick
@@Kaiandherfloof do you have a cream called muperocin (sp?) When I start to develop a sore, it can prevent it from growing. I have had sores in my nose, under my arms, inner thighs. It sucks dealing with this, but the cream has kept me out of the hospital on many occasions.
You are my hero!! So thankful the worst is over for you. 🙌 So very thankful for CHOA and all that they did to help 26:45 you recover. Praying for a full and speedy recovery. Love and miss you. ❤️❤️🙏🙏
SO sorry your going through this . Hope you are on the mend soon . I hate the ER also . I am 53 had a stroke going to get PFO closing next week . Been a lot will be glad when I get the surgery. Also getting a colonoscopy in the am . 💩 lol My First time it is an experience. Hope your better soon you have been through a lot. Came across your video looking for a distraction from 💩 so fun . Well 🙏🤗❤ Happy New Year 🎉
Just been through something so similar to this and just had my VAC removed a couple of weeks ago. I’m so glad for you that you moved hospitals. It doesn’t bare thinking about how different things could have been. All the best you para-lagend ❤
Toroidal. For migraines it’s a lifesaver. Wounds are serious. I’m concerned that your regular or initial wound care didn’t have you back in regularly to address the wound. So many things went wrong here. I’m so thankful your guardian angel was looking over you. Praying for you 😊
I know that pain you talked of. I likened it to having 6 metal rods stabbed into my back sticking up. And, lightning striking each one individually one after the other. I too could not walk at first. Sent home from hospital with steroids for pain. They called me back the next day and wanted me back in ER. because they suspected pneumonia.. No pneumonia symptoms.. I didn't believe them but they insisted I come back in. I did, but the pain was getting even worse... Intense. Nurse got rude thinking I was on drugs!! WHAT!!! it took days before they finally took MRI. staff infection in my spine. They finally operated and removed infection. Meanwhile... I had sepsis.. Pic line for months with antibiotics. My kids all came to see me because they thought I was dying. I was in nursing home a month with physical therapy to get me to walk again. Praise God I am walking.. Physical therapy at home for months.. I am walking and pretty much back to normal.. But my strength will never be as good as before. Mine was caused by a procedure, an abliation to relieve back pain. Somehow induced a pathogen in my spine. L5, S1. This was in 2020, right before covid hit. But.. Listening to your story made me realize how lucky I am to be able to walk. I know you're not giving up... And I believe you will be walking again. Jesus is with you . thanks for sharing your story. BTW. I am retired now, but that incident pretty much sealed my early retirement. ❤ LouAnn. Praying for you.
I learned from your story NOT to ignore certain symptoms. Especially unexplained numbness & tingling. Pain that won't go away or any symptoms that last. I've had MRSA in my shoulder before. I remember how badly that hurt! I couldn't use my arm! I even had a fever that I wasn't aware of when I went to the Dr. I just remember pain. Incredible pain in my shoulder! And a golf ball sized knott that was warm to the touch. All the infection was in that area. I'm lucky it didn't spread before I noticed symptoms. Thanks for sharing your story. ❤
I love your nail polish!, I’m so glad you left and went to CHOA. That other hospital is terrifying. Their ER sent me home saying I strained a muscle. I could not move my head or sit up at all. It turned out I had osteomyelitis in my C and T spine. Had emergency surgery at another hospital 3 days later. I had to be on IV antibiotics daily for a year.
PLEASE GET WELL SOON SYDNEY JI I WILL PRAY FOR YOU. MAY GOD RECOVER ALL YOUR PROBLEMS AND BLESS YOU WITH LOT'S AND LOT'S OF LOVE, HEALTH, HAPPINESS, SAFETY AND PROSPERITY 😣😣😣😣😣😣😣🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow ! You are extremely pretty. Glad you are ok . Hospitals are so bad in Canada right now . I was taken by ambulance 3 weeks ago. It was a 30 hour wait time . I slept in a hall way . Ughhh
Glad you seem to be doing better. Love seeing your beautiful face. I dont know who recommended changing a bandage every 2 days. Always change the bandage every 24 hours. And you should changing it after any sporting events!
Im only guesaing here that your paralyzed from the waist down? You mentioned quadraprolegic early in story You must have had a terrible journey throughout pt and hospital rehab Your incredible strength to endure is inspiring ❤ bless you and your health Im going through medical trauma after trauma and i relate to your feelings Thanks for sharing im on qhat fewls like the edge of a ledge and cant think lifes worth rhis excruciating painful experience and even in hospice they took away my so called comfort care(liquid meds) that worked mostly BECAUSE im still alive and they expected me to die in 3 months and ive managed to thrive a bit and gain 5 pounds at 75 5dt 8 they took that away changed my meds put me in withdrawals over a week and its been in march a year and want kick me off hospice back to no dr and pallative care All because i beat some statistic they are KILLING me either way whats left nothing for me to do about medical hasligjtimg and lack of empathy and care is imhumane 😢😠
I was a home health nurse, I took care a dear person who became a quadriplegic. Do you have a roho cushion in your wheelchair ? Also do you have air mattress on your bed? These two things helped my patient not to have pressure sores.
Hey! Love your videos, and updates. Sorry to hear you went through this whole recent ordeal, but I know you’ll recover from this and only get better. :)
It was 100% smart that you went to the children’s hospital! I’m an RN and no, not all hospitals are created equal! Horrible treatment at that first hospital! I’m glad you are doing better, wound vacs rule!
I had septic and I was drowning in fluids and I couldn't breathe I was really drowning and the pain in my back was so bad I thought I was dying and I actually was. I was in the hospital for two weeks and they didn't have any idea what was wrong with me. So my mom took me out of the hospital and then took me to another one and they knew exactly what I had when I was in the waiting room and saved my life literally! It was horrible tho because of the Drs said I was a drug addict and so they would not give me anything for pain and I couldn't have any visitors because of covid I was in for like 8 months and finally got out and I have been ok since then! But it was not any fun! Come to find out what started it all was a UTI and I was not just a drug addict like they tried to say! Glad you're ok but take care of yourself and don't put too much on yourself!
It genuinely scares the hell outta me these days when we see what has happened in the medical feild!? How insanly ignorant for these people to treat you like thjs!
Wow. Retired pediatrician here, and I'm hoping you've learned your lesson about downplaying your symptoms, and I'm so happy that you survived this. Sepsis is nothing to play around with. I've followed you for a while, and just want to remind you to always go with your gut feeling; and when you feel something is very wrong, don't ignore it. Stay Well! EDIT - I'm certain that the autonomic dysreflexia was a sign of the UTI.
Wow, thats not good. Glad you are ok now though. Sepsis is very scary, o had my own experience with it back a couple years ago. Wasn't feeling well, and thought maybe UTI, even though i did not have my usual symptoms. Went to urgent care on the weekend and got antibiotics, by tuesday afternoon, i ended up in the hospital. UTI infection went up into my kidneys, had a sodium level of 114 which is very bad. Also had an abscess on my kidney, basically popped hole in my kidney. Also had pocket of infectious fluid around my VP shunt that i had. Spent 2 1/2 weeks in the hospital about 1 1/2 in ICU in 2 different stints. While on floor between icu stays, was overloaded by 10 liters of fluids. All good now though
I’m an incomplete paraplegic and have been for nearly 20 years now and so far I’ve been lucky, I got sepsis once but not from a wound, also from a uti that went asymptomatic. I get symptoms of a UTI and anytime we’ve discovered I’ve had one it’s been a fluke catch bc they were testing me before a procedure or something. Until that one time it got me so sick I ended up septic with urosepsis! I was in the hospital for 10 days on iv antibiotics and they did a ct of my abdomen thinking I had more infection there hiding.. then sent home the next day only to be brought back to the hospital in complete kidney failure due to the contrast they used the day before for the CT! Turns out I’m “allergic” to it! I ca no longer receive any iodine IV contrast without prep for my kidneys which is a long process. I now need two doses of IV solu-medrol and one dose of iv Benadryl.
I just recently (last week) had my grandmother die from sepsis (she had colitis first and then sepsis related to it) it’s a very serious condition that will kill you very quickly my grandma was in the icu for 2 days but unfortunately there just wasn’t enough time to save her you’re very lucky to be alive I’m glad you’re doing better
Girl. I know you’re fighting. But when you’re sick, you’re sick. Or when something is wrong, something is wrong. I get it tho! You wouldn’t believe how I get it! I’ve had osteomyelitis from T6-T10. It literally ate my spine. I knew something was wrong for two months but the hospital kept saying that I was in chronic pain and to talk to my Dr., or they told me I had pneumonia (because of what they saw on CT; ie the infection…. But it wasn’t pneumonia they saw, it was the infection!). What bothers me soo much is that I was treated sooo bad! They treated me like a druggy. I went in there writhing in pain for at least 1 week until I finally went to a different hospital and got a Dr that actually figured it out with an MRI. Then it was all about saving my life. I wanted them to just kill me tbh because the pain was soo excruciating. So I think I’ve finally found someone who knows what kind of pain I was in. Or at least similar. Anyway, I had osteomyelitis, pseudomonas and was septic. I had a sore on my shin that was down almost to the bone. They think that’s how the bacteria got in. And of course, bacteria will make its way to the weakest places in your body. Mine happens to be my spine (I have several spinal diseases and have fractured my T7-8). I’m really glad that you made it thru this. I have a sneaking suspicion you’ll be walking one day sweetie. You’re a pretty determined young lady. It sounds like you have reason to have hope! I just found your channel a little bit ago. Just by happenstance. Wasn’t searching for anything. And here you are, having gone thru spinal issues and infection, similar to me. No I’m not paralyzed. Thank You Jesus! But, I cannot lay on my back anymore. Can’t handle hard surfaces touching my back, etc. All the things you said. The surgeon that worked on me that night, he put in the wrong hardware. I had 2 8” rods and 12 Pedicle screws that were soo small that the surgeon that fixed me 6 years later, all he had to do is pluck the screws out! I was MISERABLE for those 6 years. I had gone in to er many times telling them something was wrong. And here I had rods poking out the top of my back. It was the most horrific time in my life. Makes me cry right now thinking about it, and it was 3 years ago. Anyway, I just want you to know that I kinda relate as far as spinal infection goes. I watched your “how I got paralyzed” video first. And I was waiting for you to say you had osteomyelitis because your story was soo similar to mine. I was also dying. Surgeon gave me the option of hospice in the hospital or at home, surgery right now (which was midnight), or do nothing. My kids were all there. They all said she’ll do the surgery 😂. But it was tough because I just wanted out of the pain! Like permanently because I’d been in more than excruciating pain for a while. Like make-me-crazy pain. Gosh I’ve written a lot. I’m sorry! 🙏❤️🤗🙏
Ah, the joys of the WoundVac! I call it the VacuSuck. I have such fond memories of a sucker sponge the size of a Swiffer mop head sucked to my open wound like a plecostomus to the aquarium wall, and the sucker pump suddenly cycling on again just as I started to fall asleep again from the last time it startled me awake during the night. Not much about the VacuSuck doesn't suck 😂. So sorry you had to endure that, dear. You radiate such positivity, intelligence, and maturity. You're right. You *are* a tough cookie. So, when symptoms are interfering with your ability to go about your activities, please trust that they are severe and indicative of a serious problem requiring prompt medical attention. For some people, minor symptoms can lay them out, but that's not you. You play tennis paralyzed and suffering sepsis until someone else withdraws you because your eyes are rolling back in your head. Your stamina is amazing, so you have to pay extra attention at times when your symptoms are severe enough to become a challenge to your daily life. Because we all care about you. You are special and you are changing the world for the better!
Our son who became paralyzed at age 21 after being shot in the neck has never had a pressure sore in the last 23 years, thank goodness but what did happen was a couple of things. One he moved out of state to a facility in Washington but when the folks at Delta were moving his wheelchair did not secure his legs and when they made an abrupt turn his leg fell off the footrest and got caught. Long story short both his fibula and tibia were fractured
Denial is not a River in Egypt. It sounds like it’s challenging, balancing critical thinking skills around your paraplegic care and your desire to have a full fun college life. I guess it’s a learning curve to find that balance. It does sound like going straight to the Children’s Hospital is critical whenever these problems/episodes occur Glad you got good care. God bless you
I am disabled with multiple chronic health issues and I do not produce a fever when I have a severe infection. I had a bilateral kidney infection and was sent home from the hospital because I didn’t have a fever. The next day they discovered that I did in fact have an infection. I wasn’t as sick as you, but kidney infections are pretty bad and lead to sepsis if untreated, and they missed it because I did not have a fever. I wonder if there is something broken within us lol.
Merry Christmas Sydney we are glad you are OK you are a very bright and beautiful young lady me and my wife have been following you a few months now watch a lot of your stories about how you become in a wheelchair to us you are amazing I mean how you take this and strong as you are we Pray that you will walk again I told my wife you will walk again don't let us down ❤ Merry Christmas to anyone seeing this
How and why did they not think SEPSIS first up ! You are vulnerable for it. You are a courageous brave soul xxxx
Some "nurses" should not be in that profession. So sorry. I suggest you write a letter to the administrator of the hospital. It may help the next patient.
From the reviews of said hospital I don’t think a letter to the administrator will do a thing.
She is playing tennis on an open sore taking pain meds and its the nurses fault? At some point you have to accept reality and take ownership of your own health. Granted she wants to play sports but at the fist sign of a problem readjust your priorities because you only have one body, accept the reality of your limitations
@kayakdog4884 as an RN, I appreciate that! Thanks❤
Pls remember: it’s Not the “Nurses” that order the labs & imaging, (work-up), nurses are not the ones making the diagnoses, or POC (plan of care)…it’s the Doctors that do this; not the “Nurses”
(she even thanked the
Nurses in this video)…
I know that the healthcare system is broken, (shattered even) …🥺😢
it is most often difficult to navigate & too often see way too many people lost to f/u care & care coordination upon discharge from the hospital …
This amazingly resilient human, presents like she has experienced a Major life altering event & loss as a consequence of professionals 😮missing critical /issues😢
Wow! Good for you! What are you doing? Is making you stronger by leaps and bounds! That is just so darn cool❤❤❤❤✌🏻✌🏻. Take care.❤
Incredible!! This is tremendous 👏
I am so grateful for social media because we learn from others!
I want to find the right words to convey how inspiring this story is to me.
Please forgive me if I babble on and too many run on sentences ( mom would be shaking her head at Me if alive now)
But I just found Sydney's posts today and I started watching her videos. I am a CNA. I see older people in my job setting.
We are all learning as we go and I am so grateful for the information passed here from Sydney and others!!
The Human Spirit!! Keeping going and find a way 💯 around obstacles!! ❤❤
Much love to all
Next time you aren’t feeling good please don’t push thru and do your sports or your obligations you feel you have.
@zuzannaslu9851 AN MD could write a better response. There are so many errors in your grammar.
yes, not sacrificing health again and again 😢
@@gaillessard2786 ever think maybe English isn’t her first language? Jeez you’re a d
@@gaillessard2786 ah, yes, because all medical doctors are native English speakers 🙄
Thank you! Same to you:)
@@_sydney.fowler_ thank you so much.
I agree. The first hospital could have absolutely killed her with their negligence. They need to be reported and investigated.
Always trust your body as well your intuition was there but you didn't want to listen, glad your feeling better. ❤
You're in my prayers Baby Girl. Love and hugs from Houston, Texas. ❤
My first symptom of my blood infection was a headache that would not go away. I’m glad you’re doing better.
So happy those nurses at theChildren's hospital had you & that your Parents withdrew you from your tournament
That's so scary! I'm so glad you're okay! 👍❤️
We are Now praying for complete healing after your last surgery🙏🏼✝️❤️
Love you, KiKi
God you poor baby all that plus as active of a life as you live. Be very very careful. Share as few things as possible with others and remember that your immune system is much different then most people around you. Im rooting for you!
I have been following your story and you are Truly an inspiration to me. I was diagnosed with a very fast moving, aggressive autoimmune condition that limits me, however I'm not in a wheelchair yet.--I say yet because the autoimmune condition can lead to joint damage/mobility problems. I will Keep you in my prayers & your story again is a true Inspiration in my life.🙏🏻💯
Thank you! I appreciate your support! Wishing the best for you going forward!
You are so fortunate to be alive! My brother died from septic shock. Be careful.
Oh my lord!!! You are so strong. Your attitude is something we should all try to emulate. You are a Rockstar!!! Hopefully that doesn't sound weird ❤
I’ve been at the beginning stages of sepsis. It’s scary and no fun. Hope you get to feeling better.
That sounds like some ordeal..so glad you made it through..you are incredibly beautiful ✝️💙🙏
You always explain things perfectly, thank you for that. I agree with the comments. You should call out that nurse & hospital for what I would consider "malpractice" 😢
And grateful you are healing and hear to celebrate the holidays with your family.
You are so strong. I admire your strength considering.
You are a brilliant communicator, you are beautiful, you have a huge purpose! I’ve changed dressing on decubitus that you could see up a tunnel… keep preaching 😘😘😘😘🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!!
Cheers.
I was thinking the samething
The same thing happened to my mother last year. It's great you didn't have to have an amputation done. Thank you for sharing your story ♥️
I’m hoping that you’re in medical college. You can make a difference. Brave and so strong!
WOW, glad to see you're better.
😯 They made you lay on the floor? That is neglect, bordering on malpractice, and patient abuse. I hope you contacted the health department.
Be careful with sheering from certain fabrics (those water proof bed covers broke my skin down once). Happy to know u r good🦾
You are my hero!! So thankful the worst is over for you. 🙌 So very thankful for CHOA and all that they did to help 26:45 you recover. Praying for a full and speedy recovery. Love and miss you. ❤️❤️🙏🙏
Thank you for sharing this praying for strength for you and healing
SO sorry your going through this . Hope you are on the mend soon . I hate the ER also . I am 53 had a stroke going to get PFO closing next week . Been a lot will be glad when I get the surgery. Also getting a colonoscopy in the am . 💩 lol My First time it is an experience. Hope your better soon you have been through a lot. Came across your video looking for a distraction from 💩 so fun . Well 🙏🤗❤ Happy New Year 🎉
I'm glad you are feeling better.
I'm so happy that you are doing better! I hope you had a great Christmas and wishing you an awesome New Year!!
Just been through something so similar to this and just had my VAC removed a couple of weeks ago. I’m so glad for you that you moved hospitals. It doesn’t bare thinking about how different things could have been. All the best you para-lagend ❤
Thank youuu! wishing you the best!
Im glad you doing much better now 🙂
LouAnn.
Ugh I hate to hear that! And thank you:)
Omg you’re so much older now!!! 😭 obviously only 3 years older lolol but it’s a huge jump to what.. 13-14 to 17-18?! 😭😭😭 sucha trip!!
I’m glad you’re doing better.❤
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Have a great Christmas !

Praying for you now. I am so sorry that the medical profession is failing you. I so wish I could help! ❤
Glad you are feeling better.
You are totally amazing young lady! Thank you for sharing your story. ❤
Glad this turned out !! So scary !!
Wishing you well Sydney!!!
Jesus you’ve been through it….im so sorry for you…you’re a rock star…😘 I’m glad you’re on the mend….🙏🙏
That was the best place for you to have gone too. Always go where they know you and have your records and history!
The staph loves our poor girl Sydney 😭
Prayers 🙏 you got this
I’m an incomplete paraplegic and have been for nearly 20 years now and so far I’ve been lucky, I got sepsis once but not from a wound, also from a uti that went asymptomatic.
I also am allergic to IVP Dye
Wow sorry to hear that!
Praying for you!
I’m so sorry to hear that and thank you!
Sorry you had go through that experience. Your personal strength is amazing. Thank you for sharing with us. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Glad you well again
