I have been a big fan of getting myself something special for Christmas for a number of years but this year's gift to myself may be my favourite. I have adored Montblanc pens for a number of years and thought that the Boheme would be my first pen from them but when this pen was offered to me back in November I fell in love and after a few hours of thinking, I went back to buy it. This pen was by no means an inexpensive purchase but some birthday money and a UA-cam check made it possible to purchase the pen.

Congratulations on the new pen! Nelmar and his team are an awesome group for sure.

The 146 is the one to get. The 149 is cartoonishly huge. Like watching Tom & Jerry writing with a fountain pen 😂

I got a 149 last year thru a trade at the fountain pen recycler… and I kind of feel like a poser, like someone with a pen like this should have really great handwriting g and write really important things and wear really expensive pants… but I smile and scribble my journals in my sweats and feel happy anyway

Congrats on your amazing grail pen, the 146 looks amazing. I’m glad it’s now in the hands of someone who really appreciates it!

Based on the collection of the original owner and how far back his collection dated, I'm positive he cherished them and used them for as long as he could. I am very grateful that it has found a home in my collection now.

Mostly I buy vintage fountain pens. My 146 is a 1980s model with an ebonite feed. It really is as wonderful as you make it look in this video!

Vintage MB was a game changer for me too, with the bonus of the ebonite feed and clear ink window which I much prefer. I thought they would be overrated until I had mine in my hands and it never leaves :)

I'm thinking about one of these. I have a 149 and a Boheme, so this would make a nice trio. I'm not fussed about the fancy Montblancs, but there's something about the plain classic models I really like.

It is a lovely pen, and would make a lovely trio. Someday I will get a Boheme because I absolutely adore them. I totally agree about the "classic" Montblanc models. There are very few of the newer ones I like.

Congrats on getting a MB. I have a MB 221p that despite the "p" is actually a catridge/converter. I won it on an eBay auction. I don't have a converter for it so I use MB Mystery Black cartridges

I have a vintage Montblanc 32 that I got for $50. I'm hopeful to own a newer Montblanc in the future but nothing on the horizon yet

I have two 146s and I took them to the SFpenshow and asked a few vendors what size the nibs are.. why doesn’t Montblanc land mark their nibs???? I do love both pens..

No idea why they don't mark their nibs, I have a feeling their main clientele probably only has one size of nib in their collection.

So glad you got this for Christmas! Does this have an ebonite feed? I just had to take the piston assembly out of my 146 Origins because it was pretty stiff already and grease the piston and helix.

It does have an ebonite feed. I'm hoping I never have to take mine apart.

@@alexandrasartinsanity If you do have to grease it the tool I got was around 70 dollars and it can do Montblanc 146/149 on one end and the other end it can do Pelikan M600/M800/and M1000. It takes like 5 minutes to do. Or I'm sure you could take it to someone. I was super nervous doing it to mine because of how much mine cost, but I like to tinker so I just jumped in an did it. I also watched a video on youtube of SHAK-MD doing a couple so that helped with my confidence as well haha!

I have a Boheme but, honestly, it is my least favorite Montblanc. It is finicky and high maintenance and not as comfortable in the hand as a 146 or 149.

Good to know. I tend to prefer pocket pens but I have only spent about 15 minutes with a Boheme and I would definitely want to spend some more time with one before I buy one.
