- President Joe Biden got a firsthand look Friday at efforts to clear away the "mangled mess" of remains of the hulking remains of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, as cranes, ships and diving crews work to reopen one of the nation's main shipping lanes. Aboard Marine One, circling the warped metal remains and the mass of construction and salvage equipment trying to clear the wreckage of last week's collapse, Biden got his first up-close view of the devastation. On the ground, he received a briefing from local officials, the U.S. Coast Guard and Army Corps of Engineers on the situation in the water and its impacts on the region. The insurance payment could take quite awhile. They said they'll pay to fix it until the insurance pays them. But we'll see. 🤔

I think it was pretty clear. It lost power and therefore all ability to steer itself. Water currents took it of course into the bridge pillar. Is that a simple enough explanation for you to understand? The ship was responsible enough to at least report it and traffic onto the bridge was at least stopped. Not enough warning sadly to get the workers off the bridge in time. RIP to them, working in the middle of the night on a not very glamorous job filling pot holes so others lives would be a little more smoothly traveled.
I think the captain thought the bridge would stop the ship. Instead of heating a building or ship. He never thought it would fall.

Let me guess, no word from Andy Harris? His so-called freedom caucus today just put out a statement saying that they aren’t going to support any aid to Baltimore for this tragedy without meeting their political demands, without offsets. We need to make a note of everyone in that group including Harris, and make sure that they get nothing if a tragedy strikes their district, because we want to keep everyone honest.
