I'm glad this happened to you. This has happened to me so many times and I remember hearing you say to your viewers "yeah you deranked because you went negative. 5-13. I've gone positive every promotion and sometimes derank and I've also won all 5 and stayed the same rank a bunch of times.

But he didn't derank, it's a placement. That statement is true, if you are deranking, you are common denominator in every game. The MATCHMAKING is bad in the sense that it's unbalanced and unfun, but everyone deals with the same issues, so it balances out in the end and your rank is equalized if you simply play enough games. It's just not fun to do so.
@@wubzt3r what about when I go 5-0 stay the same rank, then go 5-2, then 5-3, but im still diamond 2? 60+ winrate on all characters. The most that ever happens is that I go on a losing streak of 3 in a row, but I get those right back and offset it with more wins.

I placed in Plat 5 as a new player playing DPS and I wasn't even the better DPS on my team every game. It's definitely broken.

So I guess I didn't play amazing, but well enough in diamond lobbies that I ultimately got a plat 5 rank? I'm not bad, but I was surprised to get a plat rank my first time playing comp. I solo queued too.

All a placement does is hide your sr for if you don’t play that season.

brother same, i was stuck plat 4 for 2weeks , now with enough "not having a life for 2 days" got plat2 and it still refuses to move me up
I'm pretty sure ranking almost doesn't care about wins anymore. It feels like it's very 'individual performance' based. So you have to perform better than other Plat 3s to rank up. Counting wins is a BS way to rank up anyways - if it is individual performance based, it's much better.

@@guitarstrings37 ranking compares you to other players in the system, not your teammates. Half your team could be bronze or silver. The system doesn't care if you demolish a bunch of silvers 30-2. It matters when you're hitting your ceiling and don't perform as well.

We’ve been trying to tell you flats. I’ve been trying to get out of bronze on dps (I was silver 2 last season) but it reset me to bronze at the beginning of the season. I’ve placed bronze one 4 rank ups in a row including one where my w/l was 5-2 and I had the stats to support it.
I went from plat 4 to gold 3 this morning. I usually do pretty decent when my team is actually worth a damn and don't leave the match prematurely. I keep getting teams that collapse in on themselves and get steam rolled and I cant really do anything to overcome it. There's only so much I can do on my own.😓

@@selleout and it's not like I'm doing bad. If my team doesn't collapse in on itself with teammates leaving or performing like 🐕 💩, I usually do games where I go 15-3 or 32-5 K-D, if I'm healer I'll do 7-10k+ healing. I just don't see what I, myself, am doing wrong to get set back so much.

@@Priinsu yeah I totally get it, my masters friends always tell me I should be up there with them and tbh I kinda agree 😭 like I can be popping off soooo hard but since the game only accounts for win rates it doesn’t matter. Hopefully they’ll rework the system more in the future to recognize individual player skill a bit more! Sounds like we could both benefit from it.

Happens at every rank. I'm only in Gold 1 on support right now. Won 5 of 8 games and went down to Gold 2. Ranking system makes absolutely no sense. I'm really hoping they do something about it soon. Or just give me comp rules in a casual game mode. Because honestly I only play comp partially for the fact that you play both sides of the map.

i lost only two games in placements and went up once.
Conversely I went like 5-11 with the worst games imaginable (like a duo dps hard throwing, avoiding them and then having them on my team the next game) and went from Diamond 5 to Diamond 4. I had the same reaction as Flats since the rank system doesnt make any sense
Yeah the other night I had a run in masters where I went 5-8 and went from masters 5 to masters 3 which was astounding to me. I went up two rank tiers on a negative card

still i think it makes sense that they go from 5 to 1, when you are gold 1 for example you are at the top of gold, a part of the number 1 players in the rank. in all competitions you also finish 1st when you win.
1 is usually the number used to indicate the best of something, you see this even in playing cards, ace of spades in usually better than the 5 of spades.

Dude a couple days ago I started diamond 1 support, I played a 5-0 card, diamond 1. A 5-1 card, diamond 1, on my 3rd card I go 5-1 again and finally get dumped into Master 4, the rank up system really feels unrewarding when perfect (or near-perfect) cards yield no progress at all

I'm in bronze. 4 times i ranked up today, 5-6, 5-9, 5-1, and 5-3. I went from Bronze 4 (at start of session) to Bronze 5, then back to bronze 4, and then I ranked up again... to bronze 4.
This happened to me too a few days ago. I was playing support and had a 23k healing game ( not heal botting) and going positive in all my games and still stayed gold 4
I talked a bunch of friends into playing OW2 with me. We all play comp together every game. We are spread between bronze 4 and silver 2. I’m one of the lowest ranked despite being a 5 year vet. It’s definitely still busted.
How can we have identical records and some rank up several divisions and others don’t move?
I went 5-0 support (lucio and baptiste) had really good healing and damage on each game , but the game didnt increased or decreased my rank. Wasted my time even tho I played really well

I remember when i first did placements when the game first dropped and got b5 after 7 wins in a row, then did another 7 and won them all and went b5 to b5. I know the system was actually busted then but it was pain
I was in Masters 3, won 5 lost 6, the rank placement for a split second showed *Diamond* 3 and then ranking UP to Diamond 1, meaning it bugged and threw me an entire rank down before updating me. But sure, the ranked system is great!
Had this repeatedly too. I went from plat 2 to plat 1, 5 wins 1 loss, it showed gold 3 to gold 1 'rank up' its bs. When you contact them about it they dont do fuck all to fix it either

hey unranked support player here just a quick tip at 6:20 you threw all of your health packs at one teamate and just wanted to say you cant do that with brig because her heals dont stack you have to wait 3 seconds for each health pack I asummed this was just a mastake and you know this
So I know you know how ranking works, but I think what you've failed to consider is that Blizzard might just be straight up incorrect about how the system works, or they programmed it incorrectly. Their actions haven't really filled me will confidence on either point.

wtf? I went 5-0 with solid games as DPS but certainly nothing to boast about but placed plat 5. I'm a new player too - just barely finished winning my 50 required quickplay games.

Deleted the game yesterday after I got 15 straight wins, a total of 17 deaths, and an average of 6/12k d/h output all for a grand placement of gold 5 support, after starting as P5. The ranking system has either lost all manning or the lack of transparency has made it impossible to climb.
I understand if other people are just better, but I feel like no matter what until they assign numbers to the ranking system it’ll just never make any sense.
about time these high and mighty masters/gm players whove been stuck there since season 8 of OW1 learnt how the game treats the rest of it's players.
I experienced the S3 derank bug, completed my first 5 placements 5-0 but as Blizzard said my first rank update was just getting the real rank I should've gotten at the start of S4 (G1 to P1), which is unfair because I hadn't gotten my S3 rewards anyway and I should had ranked up directly to D4 as I went 5-0 and my rank was already P1, but whatever.
My second placements went bad, masters and GM lobbies, not hard for me though, I still performed the same (I'm just unlucky with my placements and despite a 60% wr on support role I couldn't get out of plat last season)
My third placements went normal, with normal I'm saying I had to carry my team as Mercy in order to end up 5-3, ranked up to Plat 2.
My fourth placements went 5-1, I already noticed the matchmaking had turned the switch to " f*** you, I won't give you the 2 wins you're missing because you're on loss streak mode now" luckily I found some old teammates on my 4th match and we built a 5 stack and I won 2 more games, went 5-1 and ranked up to D5.
It's just crazy how I literally KNEW hadn't I played with a pre-made team, matchmaking would've been horrible.
Whenever I hit my "MMR" rank, I start going on very artificial W/L streaks so much that I can only climb 1 division per season. Season 1 - > bronze 1 to gold 5 only played a few games, Season 2 -> silver 2 to G3 didn't play in my account on season 2 at all because I ranked up my Boyfriend's account, his account is from Ow1 btw,and it was VERY easy to get him from silver 2 to plat 2 in a single season when I'm supposed to peak Gold, it's like if OW1 accounts had an artificially inflated MMR.
Season 3-> S1 to P1, very easy to hit P2 and then after hitting P2 I went 5-5, then 5-6-7 demoted to P3 and immediately went 5-0-1-2-3 and ranked up to P2 again, and repeat WS P2 LS P3 WS P2 LS P3... After >60 hours of being stuck in Plat 2-3 with a 57% WR SoloQ AS MERCY, I REPEAT, AS MERCY!!!! That wr is kinda fucking nuts to have with Mercy. I SOMEHOW went 5-3 and ranked up to Plat 1, I decided I'd leave my account like this because Blizzard had said they would remove rank decay and make an MMR based rank adjustement, and as I had 57+ WR (and MMR is BASED ONLY IN WINS AND LOSSES) , it was statistically impossible not to start S4 in Diamond.
Little silly me when I log in I see I'm not only unfairly rank decayed to GOLD 1 but ALSO I lost all my S3 Plat Role rewards when I was ONE rank up away from hitting Diamond 😂.

Just after hitting D5 I'm experiencing my first artificial losing streak: I'm currently 1-8 but my stats are exactly the same or EVEN better (and yes, I don't only play Mercy, I also have >55 WR on 4 other supp picks) I know if I keep playing It'll only be to finish 5-15 or sth like that because it has happened before and there's literally NOTHING I can do to stop the losing streak besides letting the matchmaker artificially demote me 3 ranks because I have ranked up higher than it had expected me to lol.
I think matchmaking expected me to peak Masters 5 this season, but as my rank was bugged at the start of the season I lost a 5-0 boosting streak to D4 and it made me peak P1-D5 again instead. It's just a clownfiesta, the rank you'll peak in a season is mostly determined before you even start playing competitive, and the only way to rank up higher than that is by getting in a 5 stack pre-made team or by getting through 10 plus winning and losing streaks (and honey I don't have time to do that) just to get back to Diamond 5 and with some luck end up Diamond 1-2 after 40 days of horrible matchmaking 😂😂😂

I’m fairly new to Overwatch coming from Apex, and play on console, and usually don’t play comp, but a few days ago played got my 5 wins, lost 2, and DERANKED from gold 1 to gold 2. And I am still perplexed on how that is possible. But I am very optimistic for the following seasons
I had almost the exact same going 5-2 and from gold 1 to gold 3. I was so hyped to be about to hit plat but NOPE. I got there a few days later but still pissed me off
I feel like it dosent help that the devs said they basically adjust and work on the rank system each week and make changes as stated in one of the interviews. So we don’t know what is getting changed or what exactly is being adjusted
The worst thing is when you don't belong in that rank and you win 5-0 and then don't go up in rank. I'm gold 5 in open que (have been gold 1) and im bronze Tank, Dps and heals. I win almost every game in bronze as dps even when my match rank is silver 3. I go 5-0, 5-2, 5-1-1 (draw one) and stay in my rank bronze 4. The game says I'm ranked 92% higer than other players my league and yesterday when I finally ranked up to bronze 3 it still said you are ranked higer than 89% in this division.
Someone pls explain I just wan't gold as dps and then try my best to rank up from there because bronze players are not fun to play with they understand the game. Before you come at me I have now played this game for almost 500 hours so im not new to the game.

The ranked system does feel weird like for season one when everyone was having interesting 1st placements my peak on overwatch for tank was 3300 I’m fairly new at the game so I was still learning anyway on overwatch 2 I placed and got gold 1 climbed to gm 3 on season 3 and sometimes I get rolled and my teammates blame me and I feel like I don’t belong in gm but then I have these crazy games where I think to myself are these players even on my level ? So yeah shit matchmaking basically and the game was harder when I was hardstuck diamond

It’s kinda obvious when he said he played out of his mind, he was getting games the matchmaker expected him to win, and he did, so he only got a small sr bump, this is why you can de rank on an above 50% win rate, you lose games the matchmaker thinks you’ll win and never win games it expects you to lose
Flats, now you know how we feel. It seems like our gold/plat gamepley is better then some master/GM gameplay and we still cant rank up because of awful teamates.

This happens to me so many times. I honestly just wish they would go back to our old rank system and stop being stubborn about it. Just fine tune what was already working. We don't need to reinvent the wheel.
i went 5-0 literally the best day of ow ive had on dps 14k plus damage every game least amount of deaths on my team and most kills at silver 5 n when i got my new rank i was still silver 5

The placement and ranking systems suck but also matchmaking in general. Was playing in my diamond games and saw we had a low gold on our team and the enemy team didn't. We lost
Honestly.. Not going up or down & staying the exact same rank is hands down the WORST results after winning 5.. Id MUCH rather just go down 1 or 2 ranks
I think it's because you played against mostly diamond players (it's matchmaking within 1 skill tier yea?). If you played against higher (master) ranks (and you can't control this) you should've climbed. But I think the system calculates the avarage of ranks of the opposing teams and concludes if you should climb or derank if you win or lose based on your current rank.
When I play open queue I'll look how high or low i'll be on the players list on the intro screen, when I'm on top I usually have an easy match or I'll see that my team make a lot of mistakes. When I'm on the bottom it usually is a harder match and/or my team is better in teamwork. So my theory is: I think you can see, at least for your own team, if your rank is higher or lower than your teammates in the opening screen before you can choose your hero.
I’ve officially been Bronze 5 for 6 sets straight. Even going 10 and 1 in two sets back to back with over 30 - 50 elims a piece I never budged. I’m not great, but I’m not THAT bad.
This ranked system is trash.

Honestly playing comp is so draining lately trying to climb and questioning if anyone has their screens on before being smacked upside the head with a rerank of the same rank

I've went 15-0 and not changed rank before and I've also went 5-3 and got deranked 3 ranks so idk what decides where you go
Would love for anyone able to explain this I've been stuck silver 1 for the entirety of overwatch 2 my rank will not go past silver not matter my win lost ratio I have over a 60% winrate across all three roles
For another slight reference when I got first ranked each season it was bronze 5 I easily get back to silver 1 in a day or 2 then I do not climb no matter if I win 5 in a row 10 in a row or 15 in a row

Isnt every division (Plat 3, 4, 5) supposed to be a difference of 100 SR to each other? Since in the old system it was 500 sr to go from Plat, to Diamond, to Masters? But now each rank has 5 divisions? And now it's all hidden? Flats was already Masters 5, so a "shadow" 3500sr at the very least. 5 straight wins, which should in theory give you more SR, don't even add up to 100sr. Is the matchmaking that bad that he was playing with Diamonds and Plats only? If this is all the case it would be good to at least be able to see what the hell is happening. Just bring SR back it's a way better system than this crap
I win every game on a tank and teammates say that I am not lower than gold, but I am not thrown higher than bronze 1, it feels like there is some kind of barrier ...
