Cheers for the shoutout Patrick! Enjoy following the journey. Keep up the good content.
My main takeaway on the race was that it was an even split, the best way to run the 800 is always to be about 2 seconds quicker on lap 1. I would think being in a more strung out & honest race from the gun would be worth about 1/1.5 seconds to the overall time for most the field.
Having said that I would say try not be too zoned in on times, make it as process driven as possible, when you nail the execution a big PB will come 👍

No problem at all Kevin, and thank you for the support!
I agree that it was an untidy race and we would likely have run faster had we gone out around 54/55 instead, so hopefully that’s the type of race I can get into soon. You definitely closed very strongly though and pushed on very well in that last 300.
I think you’re right about not getting too obsessed about splits too, it can be easy to talk about that beforehand but then when the racing starts it is a lot harder to actually do, but as you say I think it is just a case of executing the right race and the PB will come.
Well done again and I look forward to racing again soon!

    Nice finish my man.
Lost half a second passing people so there's more there.
    Onwards and upwards!

I know that you want a sub 1.50. However perhaps you should be more focus for a sub 1.53 then a sub 1.52 etc...therefore taking little steps towards your ultimate goal. I did notice especially in the second lap that you tend you overtake in the bends. You definitely did this from 400 to 500 (extra meters) and you did again from 600 to 700. The winner of that heat. overtook you between 500-600 (on the straight), therefore he ran more efficently. A lot of athletes (myself included) then to do this (overtake in the bend). The trick is to remain calm. I believe that was a 1.52.5...possibility. Congratulations on your PB.

My comment was made whilst watching the vid. I watched your race twice before letting the video run. on. You basically covered it all in your analysis. I should've have watch the video in it's entirety before making my commment. Okay the winner was 1.52.7 therefore you would've got 1.52.9 ;-)

@@andrewlarasen9615Hi there! Thank you very much! Don’t worry at all about the first comment, I actually completely agree. That’s also why I thought I would show the video of the race without a voiceover, as I thought it would be good to hear other people’s opinions.
I think you’re bang right about me overtaking on the bends, between 400-500 and 600-700 this is what I did, and at 400-500 I didn’t really commit and just ended up running unnecessarily in the second lane, which was a mistake.
And you’re also right about the goal setting, I think getting sub 1:50 (or as close as I can) is the goal for the season, but you’re absolutely right in that 1:52 would be a good stepping stone towards that, and then obviously 1:51. I think what might happen is that there could be a bit of a jump in one of these races, but I’m also more than happy with the steady progress.
Thank you very much for the support and for tuning in and please keep letting me know your thoughts on my training and racing
