- The Oscar-winning actor, who'd led a seemingly charmed life as the star of such hits as "Crazy Heart" and "The Big Lebowski," talks with Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz about his terrifying health crises - from his lymphoma diagnosis, to spending five weeks in the hospital with COVID-19 contracted while undergoing chemo - and how he emerged with an even greater feeling of connection.

This man is an extraordinary human being. I've always liked him as an actor. After seeing him and his band, The Abiders, a few years ago in Folsom California, I fell in love with him. He's so intact and connected to himself and as a result can connect to and touch others in a beautiful way. So grateful he's well and on this planet demonstrating a centered, peaceful life.
He is just AWESOME!!! And extremely sexy!!!
The Dude abides! Amazing.
Outstanding
Jeff is the best I’ve always had a kinship with him he stays true to himself and zen and the dude
Wait…he is “extraordinary”? I like Jeff Bridges as an actor…but why do you think he is more special than others? Because you’ve seen him on the screen and on stage? Really? Remember; you must diminish yourself first before you have heroes. Jeff doesn’t care about YOU. Why are you putting him on a pedestal? What’s lacking in your life?
In the 80’s-90’s I used to work in L.A. part time as a tradesman. I worked in dozens of movie star’s homes. Jeff was the only one who answered his own front door. The nicest guy you could ever meet.
So thankful he's ok. My heart sank when I heard he had cancer. We can't lose this American treasure.
Me too Wanda! I was so sad and concerned. I'm so glad he's better!
I did not know. I love him as an actor!
I've always been a fan of he and his brother, Beau. Love them both. Stay well.
I have loved Jeff for decades. I'm glad to hear he's doing well.
I first saw him on screen when I was 5 years old in King Kong back in 76.
He still looks the same from 1976 king Kong... Jack Prescott😁
Me too
I met his dad, Lloyd, while I was involved in making props for the movie Airplane. Jeff and Beau had great parents.
This guy is such an icon, and by that I mean he is HIMSELF. Hugely real and hugely direct. I cannot say how much I loved his response to the Drs who kept urging him to "fight" during his hospitialization with Covid. "Fight? man I am surrendering, cuz we are all gonna die." That's the way, and what a testimony to why this man is legend. A thousand blessings upon your head, sir.
Yeah but thankfully he didn't surrender fully otherwise he wouldn't be here.
@@nancykerrigan Surrender and "yield" is a very effective way to stop struggling physiologically. Surrender doesn't mean you die, it means you are not fighting against. That actually allows more tissue healing, more blood flow etc vs the constriction of "fight." There ya go, Nancykerrigan.
I love how Jeff is like we all live and we all die, come on. let's get real and he's kind of joking laughing and the interviewer is all serious like it's the end of the world!!
@@nancykerrigan I mean sure, that's awesome that he's still here I mean what an amazing person. But if anything this virus has taught me is to not be afraid of death. I work in a grocery store and it was one of the few businesses that were open during this whole thing. While everybody else was home and I could have stayed home if I wanted to. But I realized everyone needs my services and realized I can't just stay home and hide and be afraid. It's not my nature.
Agree
Forego the cancer and COVID diagnoses, I hope I look anywhere remotely close to that good at 72. Jeff is a gem.
I don’t hear much about Bridges, these days, but hearing from him now, I can look at him in a much more different perspective, than before. Bless you, Jeff! We’re all standing with you. ❤️💯👍
I have loved this man since his first roles on screen! I know many women have. Love him even more for the relationship he has with his wife. As an actor, he’s a National Living Treasure! He’s a natural born storyteller! Thank goodness he pulled through Covid and cancer. Shine on, Jeff!
We need Jeff Bridges. I'm glad he's going to be around for the next little while.
He's a kind, decent man A true treasure, which is a breath of fresh air in these troubling times Thank you Mr. Bridges And yes, " The Dude abides"...
He should get the Kennedy center honors and AFI Life Achievement Award pretty soon. The impact he made on films cannot be overstated. His work has influenced modern actors like jon hamm.
I agree. 💯
Jeff bridges is the Man i❤ love him.
hear, hear!
Jeff Bridges, his dad, and his brother are awesome actors. Thankful that he is well and still going strong. God bless him and his family.
Jeff Bridges is a treasure. In a world of boasting, attention grabbing hedonists, he is a breath of fresh air. Just rewatched “The Fisher King” and his performance, as well as the movie reflect society’s current malaise.
The Fisher King is one of my all time favorite movies!
The fisher king is great , bridges and Williams was such a great partnership
I used to use this film in my spirituality class - a testament to what it means to be human and extend oneself for the other.
@@maurahobart8414 it’s a very good example of it , I think highly of it
i loved Fisher king :)
One of my favorite actors and also my favorite people.
What's not to love about brilliantly talented Jeff Bridges? As a fellow cancer survivor I can so relate to his perspective. 🎬🧡
I love Jeff Bridges, so underrated but a brilliant actor. This interview exemplifies his humility and being grounded in his life and family. I didn’t know we almost lost him. You go, Jeff!
One could say that he is criminally modest. A brilliant actor and a real human being. I have Long admired his work.
For a whole generation he will always be 'THE DUDE'. But we all know he's a very versatile actor. Glad he's doing good again. It's been a rough couple of years for a lot of us. I lost my grandmother and grandfather during the pandemic. Everyone has his story. Wish anyone who's reading this all the best.
Such a genuine beautiful human being. We are blessed to still have him. A true gentleman.
Who doesn’t love this man👏🙏❤️🙏❤️👏 what a wonderful human. We all rooted for him🥰
One of the BEST ACTORS ever! A living legend and icon!! ❤
SO happy he made it through. Wishing he and his family much peace and love
He’s such a good guy. Glad he got better 🙏🏻⭐️
Jeff Bridges is the epitome of iconic. One of the greatest actors ever, so versatile and so magnetic and unpredictable. As they say, I’d watch him read the phonebook…
LOVE your "handle" there BOB THE DOG.... one of my fave early movies of JB's (and co-staring a young Sam Waterson) - RANCHO DELUXE
Jeff’s closing Presidential speech in THE CONTENDER dropped me to my knees. It still does.
I never saw the movie. Your comment had me look it up and watch that speech. How appropriate for these times we are struggle with right now. Thanks for the referral. BTW: If you never saw The American President, do.
Wow , I had no idea what he and his family have been through this past year. Best wishes. His volume of work has brought my family great joy through the years.
The Dude abides, man ! What an amazing, talented, compassionate & awesome human being 😎🤗❤️! So glad you’re feeling better , Jeff 🙏🤘🥰!
Thank goodness he made it through the past 2 years. He’s a National Treasure.
I first saw him in "Starman" and I knew then that he was one of the best. He's one of those people you know you could just hang out with and be real. I get that from him. He seems very accessible. Comfortable is the word that comes to mind. He's comfortable in his own skin. And that is cool.
Yeah, "Starman", Academy Award type performance. One of my favorite movie lines in it, Jeff asks Karen Allen to define love. I can't remember the exact line but, "It's when you care about the other person more than yourself." WOW. Also when asked about the earth species Jeff answers, "I've found that when things are at they're worst, you are at your best."(as I recall)
Me to!
Jeff... always, ALWAYS MY FAVORITE ACTOR. Since thunderbolt and lightfoot, saw every movie. Loved every one. The BEST. So glad he is ok. So sorry for all he, wife and family went through. Blessings to him and his. Long life to you all.
He looks fantastic so glad he is doing well 😊
It's nice to have a Hollywood story with a happy ending. Stay well Dude.
One of my favorite actors and an all around good guy! I’m happy he and his wife made it.
The Old Man is by far he best thing on tv right now. The script is so good and to see John Lithgow and Jeff go at it is just a joy to watch. Come on whats better than seeing two season veteran doing what they do best?
Great actor and he seems so down to earth. Wish him the best
I'm glad that our Starman/Dude is better now. 🙏
Me to. I adore that film.
So much more than Lebowski, versatile actor. Watched him perform with his band as an extra on the film Only The Brave. Very fun.
Jeff Bridges is a great guy!
So glad he survived, I've watched him in so many movies. I love him,he's a great actor.
I'm so happy your doing so well my cancers in remission so I feel your renewed passion and love for all those around us. Wish you and your family continued health and love.
I am so happy to see Jeff! So happy he made it through!
A legend that we cherish and appreciate! Such a blessing!
I fell deeply in love with Jeff when he played Starman. I am so glad he is beating this disease. So much talent, so much heart, such range. A true national treasure.
He is one of my favorite actors and has a wonderful marriage. Love you Jeff❤
He gave an incredible line in an interview about the serendipity of life -- a Buddhist accident. I use this line more often then I care to talk about.
A great actor and human being. So glad he’s so much better again. I’d love for Jeff to get a Big Lebowski reunion movie together with John Goodman and friends. Can you imagine those characters all these year later?! It would be a riot!!
Wow. So full of truths, and love. Thanks for posting this.
I'm happy for him & his family to see him doing great he was one of my favorite actors growing up God Bless him & his family ✌️& 🤟
I had just been thinking of this wonderful human being………… incredible actor, husband, father and friend. I am so happy right now, and incredibly grateful to watch this………… your wife and family must be over the moon…. Blessings to you all
So glad he survived his cancer, treatment and Covid, too...looking forward to his new series.
One of my all-time favorite actors. Jeff Bridges is a rarity in Hollywood and I'm so glad he came through his cancer and Covid problems. We need him around for a lot longer yet!
Since I saw him in my favourite film Starman I thought he was an amazing actor 👍😍
Loved him since seeing him in 'Starman'. If you haven't seen it, check it out.
So true- we are all connected. When something is out of balance with someone it effects everything around them. Hope he does well now.
Great actor. He survived and became a inspiration to us all, well done. We have all lost during this pandemic.
Whenever I see Jeff in any movie or show, I know it will be good!
I'm so glad he's OK, love this guy 😃👍
Glad you are sticking around for a while longer, Jeff. Wishing you continued good health.
Jeff Bridges. One of the best things to happen to Hollywood. Love this man's heart & spirit. 🥰

Very strong man Jeff bridges 💪God bless him 🙏
I always love this wonder actor Jeff Bridges is awesome. Sending you good vibes and prayers for a total recovery, take care !! 🙏❤️👍
GREAT human being, as a 73 cancer patient myself, who is still at war with the evil C daily...surgeries ( had 2 major 16 hour head/neck@ lately). Sars in 2018, took one lung and woke me up to LIFE! GOD bless America and stay healthy as possible DC Happy Oceans Day 2022
Love his work and his spirit!
I’m glad he’s doing well. May the dude live on ❤️
I had the biggest CRUSH on Jeff Bridges...I have always loved watching his movies...he is a GENIUS!!!!!...VERY WELL SPOKEN MAN..& SO DOWN TO EARTH. I KNOW HIS WIFE ADORES HIM...SO GLAD WE CAN STILL ENJOY HIS TALENT. HE IS A VERY SPECIAL KIND OF GUY...DO NOT COME ACROSS TOO MANY LIKE HIM ANYMORE...😉...
How can you not have a crush on him, I hope we have more too see from him. Thank you Jeff.
I've adored Jeff Bridges for years. It's not his amazing acting ability (which, no doubt, the man has). It's his heart. His warmth. His energy. I have always picked up on that and, as a result, he's always been someone I love and adore. I am such a longterm fan that my friend gave me a book of his photography probably 20+ years ago now. I'm so glad his health has improved. Thanks for all that you do! Love you Jeff!❤🙌❤
I live on a Reservation in MT. I’m a 42yr old US Veteran, who could only hope to one day meet this extraordinary man named, Mr. Jeff Bridges.
One of our greatest actors! He is also blessed with incredible humility and perspective!! The Dude!
Can't wait for Old Man! I am old, first saw him, his brother and father Lloyd on a tv series Sea Hunt!
A parent of a childhood friend of mine who worked for decades as a nurse at a cancer treatment center said that the ONLY common denominator she saw in the people who beat cancer and went on to live for much longer time was that they had a kind ornery way about them. They were just kind of tough and grittier and more vocal and willing to complain. They didn't just put up with a little discomfort or cold food or unclean glasses or loud people in the room next to them. They spoke up and advocated for themselves.
"the Dude abides" . just a Lovable Human Being and a Great Actor .
My first time to watch him was when I was a kid and Seahunt was on tv. Been going on since then for me loving Jeff Bridges.
And seeing his father Lloyd in Airplane after so many serious performances, he was hilarious.
"Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue" 😄
Stay well, Jeff💕🙏
I've always been a huge fan, but I have never seen The Big Labowski....going to rent it and watch this weekend. Great man, I loved his Dad and Beau Bridges is a pretty cool dude too!
Check out Dudeism while you're at it!
What a blessed man, and a great actor
So glad you're OK! ❤
Loved him in “The Fabulous Baker Boys”. He was in his prime then. He’s been grizzly Adam’s ever since.
Jeff Bridges, like Keanu Reeves, has reached a certain status: Everyone loves Jeff Bridges.
I love Jeff Bridges so much. He is a fantastic actor and a wonderful down to earth human being.
He's the dude man! Love Jeff Bridges loved him in the big Lebowski glad he's doing well.
As a young girl, I watched Jeff act with his father in the series, ‘Sea Hunt’ I could see his potential as an actor, having come from that environment in So Cal. I followed his career through the years. Then, when I saw him in the 1984 movie, ‘Against All Odds’ I was enthralled! 👀😍 (as were many other young ladies)
So glad to see Jeff is doing well, and moving forward with his career and life, and overcoming his hardships with great zeal.
i enjoy watching all his performances. His versatility and fortitude inspire me.
So glad to see this. He is the best!
When a strong, successful, smart man like Jeff Bridges has such problems, it makes you count your blessings. Best of health and future success in great films to him. This demonstrates how a horrendous case of Covid could happen to anyone. Shame on those not going along with precautions.
I adore Jeff Bridges as an actor, so grateful that he's in remission and trusting he will stay cancer free!
He's the kinda guy you wish was your dad or grand dad..he seems so lovable!
I imagine this is what a nice human being is. God bless
We’re all extraordinary and important- we’re all the same survivalist “ we’re still living” 🙏🏼
Best wishes Jeff, continued healing and happiness.
Lovely interview. Appreciate Sunday morning CBS.
He is a nice person. Love his persona.
Ben Mankiewicz my man, alright!
Great job interviewing good dude Jeff Bridges. 😎👍
Always has been such a genuine guy...
Thank you.. I appreciate you all
As a cancer survivor and covid survivor I understand how he feels. Life is short and you learn that quickly and appreciate it so much more
I have always liked Jeff. So sorry to hear about the cancer glad he's cancer free now and working again. Looking forward to seeing his work. The Fabulous Baker Brothers is one of my favorite movies
"Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" and "Arlington Road" two of my favorite movies ever........
God bless him♥️
I just watched Crazy Heart last night and fell in love with him all over again. Glad he is doing well 💗
I didnt think I could love Jeff any more. Wow
