Hey everyone, Rob here, sorry it’s been a while since my last upload! Thanks for checking out Part 1 of my van build. This is just going to be a short series, so I'm going to try get the videos out more consistently over the next few weeks.
I should mention, I’ve done both! I’ve cut out a moonroof for my RX7 back in the day, similar to your vent, as well as swapped out some side windows and also upgraded to power windows from cranks. 100% junk yard parts!
Dear Rob, this is a lovely video for so many reasons but I'm just gonna name a few. First of: your voice is really nice to listen to, your tempo and manner of speaking is very good to keep up with even if you're not an native English speaker like myself. Second: you really go into the details without getting lost in it. Third: your video actually goes at a pace where I can keep up with all the important to-do's in a conversion. Lots of videos on this topic are really cool and flashy but don't actualy give me any info or insights. You did a really awesome job, thanks! Have a lovely day!
I've been watching van to RV conversation project videos for quite a long time. I mean this is a whole new level. Your craftsmanship, your attention to even tiny little details, brilliant ideas to solve a problem, etc. It's hard to believe that one single person created this. I'm pretty sure that lots of companies don't have your standards. Congrats.
I don't know if envy is the right word, because I'm glad you have your van and the freedom it will bring to you... a country like yours deserves to be explored... all the luck in the world for you... accept a hug from the antipodes :)
My favorite sandwich is what I call The Toasty Italian. Its peperoni, salami, and black forest ham on white bread with cheese. I like swiss on mine ( not the fake American kind). Toast it then add pepperoncini's and a squirt of deli style honey mustard. Close the sandwich and cut on the diagonal.
dude i am beyond impressed by ur carpentry work your troubleshooting attention to detail your knowledge...when im watching this series im totally gone from the rest of the world they are so engaging and fun to watch....this might be ur calling !!!! :)....cheers from west virginia, usa
It's amazing how pitted that front hood is. The fact that it wasn't completely rusted over is mind boggling. Surprised you didn't pull those side plastics off and sealed it on both sides :P
This is genuinely one of the best UA-cam videos I've ever seen overall, let alone van builds. This is one of my favorite builds I've ever seen and I love the attention to detail in the build and the video, extremely well done mate a sincere bravo 👏
I have been on a van conversion binge recently and I must say, this video is one of the best in terms of filming/editing quality, and also in terms of the quality of work you are doing on the build itself. I am looking forward to following the journey. Keep up the good work!
I like this idea. Can’t do it married, lol, but I like the idea. Nice work on the window, buuuuut…. Have you considered actually getting a window that was designed for the van? I’d imagine you could find a pristine one at a junk yard somewhere, and then it would just look stock, and it would also be much larger. If you were lucky enough, you could get a whole set of stock windows.
haha very true, figured it was a good chance to do it while I didn't have any attachments. Yeah getting a stock window would have been sweet too, if one comes up that could definitely be an option as the hole I'd need to cut would be larger anyway
Nice to see you again Rob :) It's super nice that you are making something, that will allow you to feel the freedom :) I hope everything will be ok during the construction and you will do not have to dissasable half of the inside equipment, to add small thing :) As always, greetings from Poland!
Hello Rob - just want to say I'm really enjoying your van build series. There's a lot of great information there, and you're a funny guy - and that makes the videos even more entertaining!
Im glad i ran to your channel, i began loving all there is to know about van life and i spend hour just watching people converting different kinds of vans. to be honest, this must be one of the best conversions i have ever seen so far! From the perfection of everything to the colors you picked for the furniture. Also its very impressive how you made everything by your self. Keep it up!😃👍
hello. i was blown away by the photogrammetry. i am currently in the process of planning my own van and would love to use this technique. however, i managed to get a relatively decent model of the outside. how did you get the inside and outside model? i saw you had the doors closed on your outside model. how did you manage to get this model that you used in 2:06? i would love to have that from my van. thx for helping me out here.
Going to have to try the photogrammetry trick. I've always seen it used for exterior scans of objects, this is weirdly the first time I've seen it used inside a space. It's definitely going to come in handy!
The greatest thing in the world..a nice MLT - Mutton lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe. They're so perky..I love that.
@@FurtherFabrication I mean, it's okay if the mutton is thin sliced and tenderized. Mutton can be kind of tough and that's not great for a sandwich. Really was a reference to a movie from the Mid-1980s.. grilled chicken breast bacon and avocado is a great choice though!
Bro i envy your work! I wanted to work my van like this too. Thanks for the great detailed layout plans! Hello from hk. Wish id move their soon to have these type of projects.
haha the laser is just in storage at the moment as I don't have a workshop space right now. Hopfully get it setup again early next year. I mean, I don't want to influence your life decisions but you should absolutely get a van, I'm having a blast building it out
Hi Rob. Your video is very interesting. A friend of mine need help to plan something similar. I'm looking a 3d model of his Ford van but can't find a MN affordable one. I could try the photogrammetry on his van. May I ask you how you scanned the inside of the van to make it match the outside scan? Thanks for your answer.
Hi Rob, could you please give some info on the software you have used, perhaps easier if you just correct me below: - 3D Modelling Software - Autodesk Fusion - 3D Scanning (from Photos) - Meshroom (you used 460 photos to create point cloud and 3D model) - @ 2:25 you appear to be in Rhinoceros I am really interested in following the same procedure, take photos, create 3D model fom point cloud info etc.
This is a great video, it's cool to see a kiwi van build video. Was wondering where you got the wool insulation from? And did I see you tear it in half to reduce the thickness? I am about to insulate my caravan build, but am struggling to find wool insulation 30mm thick!
Hey mate just wondering did you run into many Meshroom errors while trying to render the interior of the van? I've done one passthrough of the interior of my van for a test run to see how it would come up and I got 100 photos come back as "Camera: Not Reconstructed" did you get this error at any time during your process?
Hey mate! I consult your build videos multiple times a week while working on my Ford Transit 2012 Jumbo conversion. I have a question though - unistrut, where did you buy it and what model did you use? :) i'm NZ based. Thank you 1000000% for your videos, they're a massive source of knowledge for me. Chur!
Can I ask, did you use the domestic RV window? I had my eye on these and thought the built in blind and fly screen was a great idea. Loving your build btw.

epic! RX7s are one of my favs
I have sent you several emails regarding the manual/building guides for the 400 & the 1200
I'm only one person here, and I'm trying my best to get to everyone with the time that I have

That ‘water on sealant’ tip is gold!
Can I ask bro? What software did you used in layout??
interested to find out too :)
Wow. This is probably the best and most entertaining van build video I've watched so far. Very excited for part 2. Keep it up!
My favorite sandwich is what I call The Toasty Italian. Its peperoni, salami, and black forest ham on white bread with cheese. I like swiss on mine ( not the fake American kind). Toast it then add pepperoncini's and a squirt of deli style honey mustard. Close the sandwich and cut on the diagonal.
oh man that's a lot of meat haha, gotta love that swiss cheese though
i wasn't notified with this episode, but today i got to see 2 episodes in one go, today was a good day :D
Nice one! bet you're sick of my voice now though haha
I wish I could do this on my own.. you are so skillful and patient...

I know right! Ideally it needs a full repaint, but that's a bit outside the scope of a 'quick' build
This is genuinely one of the best UA-cam videos I've ever seen overall, let alone van builds. This is one of my favorite builds I've ever seen and I love the attention to detail in the build and the video, extremely well done mate a sincere bravo 👏
Appreciate someone who explains the process
Grilled cheese with gouda.
Keep up the good work! Cool project for sure!
keeping it classy, nice choice! thanks mate

Woah hold up dude! I'm still trying to get my laser cutter as nice as yours. I'm not ready for a van yet
hahaha don't worry I still haven't figured out how to combine the two yet so you've still got time!
looks like we build all the same things! built a 100w co2 laser and voron 3d printer! love the videos!
haha great minds think a like my dude
Good to see you back on YT bro
thanks bro, good to back. not gonna lie it took a bit to shake my rust off haha
Your work is hoilday 👍
Rueben. I love a good Rueben
You are a great craftsman.

You have very cool accent, it's like Arnold Schwartsnegger + British + Little bit of Russian mixed together. Very cool built.
Wow this so interesting to watch I woodwork but your videos keep me glued to UA-cam Thanks
Ahhh your 'accent' is such a treat for mine ears! Wow your videos are so good, can't wait to watch more!
I am impressed by your skills. Love your videos. Could you please share software name used for this project? I was not able to catch it.
Meshroom
Ronald Finger recommended your channel and looking forward to future episodes.
You're my favorite creator and the only one I activated notifications for. Do more videos plz :-)
Thanks dude, I'll try my best!

I am LOVING this mate, thank you so much for sharing.
Dude.... You are a genius.
And skills you have .... Damn.
I absolutely adore the attention to detail and beautiful work. What’s your background? You know so much 🤓
Hello Rob - just want to say I'm really enjoying your van build series. There's a lot of great information there, and you're a funny guy - and that makes the videos even more entertaining!
Pastrami and mustard. Yum. Sweet start to your build. Looking forward to more videos.
oh yeah nice choice! thanks mate
Sick. Love the photogrammetry. Bit of a coincidence that I'm building a similar project at the moment so might steal that idea.
Im glad i ran to your channel, i began loving all there is to know about van life and i spend hour just watching people converting different kinds of vans. to be honest, this must be one of the best conversions i have ever seen so far! Hey mate,
Love the video but just got one single question to ask.
Why did you choose that type of insulation over foam spray?
Thank you
EYY!!! You're back! Glad to see you again.
Thanks mate! it was a struggle remembering how to edit videos again haha

Awesome and funny
I LOVE THIS VIDEO. AND WE LOVE YOU

Yeah absolutely, I'm really keen to see how much better the new phones coming out with LDAR cameras can do it too
Nicely done. Very cool project. Ciao, Marco.
Thanks Marco!
This is so great, thank you! 🙏🙏🙏
Well in Rob mate! Living the dream - where you going to go on your working holiday?
Cheers Rob, I hadn't really thought that far ahead yet haha
He an awesome guy that shares awesome fine projects....love the results...wow...
Dude, nice job with everything in this video.
The greatest thing in the world..a nice MLT - Mutton lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe. They're so perky..I love that.
ooh interesting choice, I'll put that on the list to try. I'm a chicken, bacon and avocado fan myself
@@FurtherFabrication I mean, it's okay if the mutton is thin sliced and tenderized. Mutton can be kind of tough and that's not great for a sandwich. Really was a reference to a movie from the Mid-1980s.. grilled chicken breast bacon and avocado is a great choice though!
hahaha sorry that Princess Bride quote went waay over my head
Really enjoyed this!
Glad to hear it! I've been a little nervous about uploading this series
looks awesome dude! looking forward to the next one!
Haha cheers Tim!
Very cool project, can't wait for the next episode !
fantastic build series so far! I never had a sandwich I didn't like :)
Bro i envy your work! I wanted to work my van like this too. Thanks for the great detailed layout plans! Hello from hk. Wish id move their soon to have these type of projects.
Having the van and traveling and working in it for awhile what would you change? Watching everything now. Safe travels
Mate looks great! Well done
Awesome vid, can't wait for the next one!
Awesome project! Thanks for sharing 😄
Thanks! and thanks for watching!
Excellent
Love it, and love watching your builds!
Awesome
Great job, what happened with your laser cutter?, I made one inspired on your work, now I'm thinking to buy a van.
haha the laser is just in storage at the moment as I don't have a workshop space right now. Hopfully get it setup again early next year.

Hey I cant wait to see the next part!
What an unexpected gem, glad I subscribed before!
thanks, glad to have you along for the journey!
@@FurtherFabrication That's a nice offer, but I'm not allowed to go on a journey with a stranger in his van..

Hey Rob, We are converting a Crafter in Auckland and are wondering where you go the Uni Strut from love the idea of using it for roof rails!
Really interesting. Like befor watching👌🏽
haha nice one!
I'm curious, could you have used the iphone Lidar sensor to achieve the same thing ?
My favorite sandwich is Vegimite and cheese 😁
classic. though I'm more of a marmite fan myself

First of all: congrats for the project. It is awesome! What piece of software did you use to design it?
This my dream
Merry Xmas mate!
Same to you!
Why do we add insulation?
Genuine question

whats the website for the 3d imaging software?
You need make the masking tape weak stick it 4 times in ur t-shirt and then put anywhere u want and you can take it easy without heat gun

What are the odds! just got a van to make a mobile lab in!
Haha that sounds epic dude!
