If you're using FL Studio, make sure to enable "align tick lengths" in the Audio Settings, otherwise the SINE player might give problems.
Hello Alex, can you make a tutorial about, how to introduce new instruments (I have difficulty building up my story on my tracks)? When I start the string part, it sounds so rude, I change my mind, remove all of my ideas, which were in my head and become very nervous. Please help me :)
What a guy... Can't believe it. I just downloaded Layers and discovered that it only works with chords (apparently I didn't pay enough attention watching this video :P) and then I discovered this... WOW!!!
I downloaded both Layers and Labs. I got The Free Orchestra (now working with Kontact 6 player) and downloaded Komplete Start for free. I also ordered Spitfire BBC Symphony Orchestra, which is free if you fill out a questionnaire. There is a two week delay and it hasn't yet arrived. I've been listening to a lot of paid orchestral plug-in demos and the ones I like best so far are Orchestral Tools Metropolis Ark 1, Ark 2, and Junkie Brass. These sound really good. They will go on sale eventually and I will pick them up. In the meantime I can hone my skills with the freebies. Your channel is full of excellent content and you have opened my eyes to the world of orchestral composing. Thank you!
DSK Music was how I started off orchestral composition, although I come from a background working with sundry ethnic, "world instruments", and that's exactly where DSK excels. Middle Eastern/South Asian, East Asian, African, European, American, and Island instruments. They tend to be more supplementary these days in my projects, but they definitely are well-crafted for freebies. Highly worth checking out. Incidentally, they also have things like moogs, synths/leads and electronic instruments, and more experimental stuff for those who really get into the experimental nitty-gritty with their sounds. There are textures, pads and sound design stuff. Great developer!
A very enjoyable tutorial as always, Alex! Your editing has improved quite drastically since I started watching you several years ago, and adds quite much to your current videos. I like your new studio, as well. I anticpate your next video!
Cheers! The way I see and tackle UA-cam is changing quite drastically (and positively) since I started working on my secondary channel, glad you noticed! The things I'm learning there will naturally bleed here too
I'm glad you like them. I had these among other free ones from Project Sam because I'm a neub and I'm learning with these tools. I also took advantage of Nucleus Lite's discount in early February.
@@AlexMoukala Have you ever heard of Cakewalk by bandlab? It's a free full fledged DAW. Used to be a paid software, but for whatever reason, it's free now. I recommend starters like me to use that to practice before they buy. I've been learning a lot and I haven't paid for DAW ... yet. I will, eventually.
No such thing as free stuff. Someone had to pay for it either with money or with time. I hope that in the future you will be able to repay somehow for this.
1:01 oh dear god why is that recipe such a mood aaaahhhhhhh In all seriousness, your content is fantastic. I’m transitioning from Finale (which is a notation software) to Ableton and the learning curve has been really steep for me. I studied classical music in college but I never actually took a class in the production side of things, and knowing what an orchestra sounds like up-close (considering I’ve played with one before) has left me dissatisfied with the stock instruments. Even though this is chord-based, I’m still really glad I found this video bc it led me to your content. You have some solid stuff on here, dude, and I think you have a really good ear for orchestrating the melodies floating around in your head. A good sense of humor too! Definitely got a sub from me!
After moving overseas for contract work, I decided to leave my violin and guitar behind with my family. Now with covid/travel ban, I really regret not bringing them with me. But finding your review channel (yay ff14!) and hopping to this channel, it's filling the hole that I miss playing and now wanting to try re-/creating some melodies of my own until I can go back and pick up my instruments again. Thank you Alex for doing what you do and making our days better with your passion and excitement in listening/making cool music! Laliho!
Just downloaded Vienna Symphonic Library Big Bang Orchestra Free Basics which is free as I already have an eLicenser from my old Arturia/Cubase days. It sounds good and isn't restricted to chords like Layers is.
Really glad i found your video, ive been trying to write an Ennio Morricone style piece infused with rock. Normally for the music i tend to make i use synth string or mellotron sounds as they work for the style but this needed actual string sounds. I am amazed at how good this sounds for a free instrument. Only played around with it a bit and already enjoying it, just sounds so great. Will stay tuned to watch videos on how to make authentic orchestral sounds :)
Amazing how it sounds just out of the box, for being a free thing, I think people at east west quantum leap will have to step up their game about the free market, spitfire and project sam already made their move and it's quite amazing. Awesome video man! thanks.
The free Orchestra by Project SAM is also not bad and has since been updated with Kontakt Player compatibility - which means it is an entirely free library as Kontakt Player is also free.
I must say, after watching this video I am really very very impressed!!! You are a very gifted and extremely talented person. And your video motivates me to do more composing with orchestral libraries. Thank you for sharing your talent and thoughts with us!
Layers sound really awesome. I'm just learning how to use it and I'm having some difficulties coming to terms with the fact that it's all chord-based. As a guitarist and keyboardist, I'm very stuck in my ways and it feels weird to not lay out the actual chords myself, but it is a clever concept and it sounds so great I'm gonna keep at it. Also, I love the way you sway with the music as it's playing. That adds an extra _layer_ to the video. ;)
Amazing sound. I have wrote UEFA Championship chords sound !!!! Hour and hours playing it. Then, ACE combat 4, was the best sound ever with Orchesta Tools layers !!!
dude, thanks for showing me these things. if it wasn't for you just now, I wouldn't be finding anything close to affordable for what I'm looking to make.
When you say sell you music online, what kind of places are you going to do that? Using free libraries to make money to buy proper ones to get more commissions is exactly my plan and I'd love to know how to monitize my music at an early stage!
I'm new to Orchestra production. I usually produce EDM and Pop and whatever else im in the mood for. So this is a new venture for me. Spitfire has added so many LABS since this video was created that you really need to update it. The BBC Orchestra one by Spitfire blows other free options out the water. Plus many other free LABS by Spitfire is off the chain.

Holy Cow. What a great musical start. I've just discovered DaWs and vpns. I've been buried in alien language, so hearing how good it can get is inspiring. I really appreciate your work. Is this the end of the physical orchestra?
