Wow cool video Guy! And thanks for the kind words! BTW: this April we’ll have a surprise, involving an even more expanded The Free Orchestra which works in the free Kontakt Player ;-)
Nice! That would be an incredible resource for many who are looking to get into scoring and the like and could really make it more accessible for a huge amount of people. Great work!
Did Guy just prank called a legit restaurant for this video?🤣🤣🤣 He's the exact kind of person I wanna be when I grow up👌 I hope you actually went to the restaurant to treat yourself a great meal later though 😊
Always so inspiring to watch a master at work, after 30 years working in music a few minutes with you reminds me how little I know and how much more I have to learn. However, it is also good to know that I’m not the only one talking to myself in the studio and berating my own wrong moves aloud!😂 The joy I see apparent in you process is refreshing to see, and something I can relate to in my own work at times. Discovering your channel, by chance, was wonderful, keep up the great work Guy, very much respect.
Watching your enthusiasm for the things you do for a living is very inspirational. You are one lucky man and so are we for having you share this all with us.
What an absolute gem of a channel this is. I can't believe how much I have already learned from you in the short time I've been here. Thank you Guy for all of the effort you put into all of your videos :)
this a lot better than those hip hop producers on youtube that don't know anything about music and only use crappy samples and 808s. even though we have more music production tools now i feel a lot of music has gone backwards and the main reason is most producers now don't play an instrument as a basis of understanding. i feel like guitar is a very good basis especially rhumba/flamenco as you have weird timings and have to sometimes finger tap the beats. when you learn this type of guitar you can quickly learn other string instruments, piano and drums as once yo understand the scales/ chords its easy to translate. i encourage any aspiring producer to pick up an instrument of some sorts and try others down the line as they don't have to be expensive. also its easy to learn how to play anything now as its all free on youtube with thousands of videos.

I just found your channel and I am so so grateful that you are here to teach this sort of art to the world. I hope to be a film score composer when I am older and your videos have already been so helpful in my journey. Thank you Guy!
I love the energy you bring to every one of your videos. I also love your musical flair and insights. I wanted to learn more about your music so I looked up your IMDb page, and have to say, very impressive! I enjoyed your demo reels there as well. Keep up the amazing work.
Love your comments and your way to tell that you went went overboard so fast in the recording and production ,so true we all do it too often , thank you , love your videos .
What a CARD! I was looking for a video to gibe me a comprehensive overview of The Free Orchestra, and I .... uh..... got lost, watching you get attacked by invisible monsters, which you obviously conjured, but playing their theme songs! 😆 I suspect that you took every one of us, who happened past your video, on a ride we had no intention of going on, but thoroughly enjoyed. John Williams would be proud of that moment! This was a really nice tutorial, because this is a nice little software for being free. I'm glad you brought this to our attention. And that delay, that was sweet. Thank you Guy!
I like free samples - my first experiment with them was to get a better sound on my Yamaha PSR... grabbed a usb Midi adapter, a free VST host... and a sampled Steinway - works just fine for me! Since added vsts for a DX7 and the CS80 - great fun!
Everything is great. May be Stay with your top, left go pro and screen capture for 99% and use your left slide camera only for intro & intermission talks with really slow slide. That might step up your presentation to be even more smooth! Cheers
Hi Guy - my first visit here! The version that works with Kontakt Player is out now - I just installed it and have had a bit of a play and am quite impressed!
This is great, I wish I had discovered you at the beginning of lockdown in March 2020, but I have found you now and enjoying your videos. I had the trial of Ableton Live 10 then after 180 days it ended so I bought the full suite. Just starting on the monumentus task of scoring video clips!!
I love this Guy ! Funny and good sharing. I came across your channel by wanting to update my orchestral library. I really like the content, the humble and talented person with British humor ! Regarding this video, hilarious Jaws sequences. It s vert nice on that pandemie. Thank you Guy. Reef from west coast if France ;-)
So I've been playing around with this library. I wrote a score in Sibelius (I like notation) then exported the xml into Reaper and began assigning instruments these samples. The samples are excellent quality. They sound really good right out of the box with minimal mucking around with processing the sounds. HOWEVER, they are rather limited in utility. You have no woodwind, for starters (the Wild Winds are some kind of pre-orchestrated patch, not an ensemble), the short strings are limited in range (violins have at least an octave, if not two, above where the SAM samples will let you go - I ended up having to take most of my strings down an octave, and apparently I can't count because I ended up with the most unpleasant harmonies afterwards!), plus you only get staccato strings, so you can't really play anything longer than a quaver (you also get the sordino violins, which are great, but only if you want them sordino!), the horns are really good, the other brass is basically these huge blasts and swells - pretty cool, but not subtle! The choirs are nice, but I prefer the (free) LABS choirs from Spitfire Audio. You also have very limited articulation options. So basically the samples you get are really good, but it's miles away from being an entry-level orchestral library you can use for general purpose scoring (though good for 'epic' stuff and generic action ostinatos pieces). With what I wrote it sounded like a right mess with these samples. I'm not complaining because it's free and what you get is definitely good and I can see myself using some of the samples in future, but you'll need to download loads of extra samples to get yourself something even vaguely like an orchestra. I think I'm going to save up for a proper sample library. Albion ONE looks like the best option, but expensive. Garritan Personal Orchestra 5 might be a more budget-friendly option. We'll see.
I was thinking about getting this library. Now I'm only thinking of the possibilities to score some symphonic metal with this and Spitfire BBC Discover libraries!
just stumbled across this video and i have to say.. this was brilliant very entertaining and informative. definitely getting this free orchestra and definitely subscribing.

A very good, exceptional, informative video. And above all, FUNNY!!! You obviously love what you are doing in it, but and it is but...........you make everyone watching a part of the enjoyment you feel. I loved the JAWS reference......made me laugh and feel good, especially during this lockdown period we're all having to endure. Thank you, no really, THANK YOU!!! There were parts of the composition that reminded me of the original sounds of Planet of the apes ( the original 1970s version ) with a sort of primal/primitive feel. You Sir, are a genius and I'm sorry that you didn't get a 'free lunch'......... you deserve one!
The full version of Kontakt is required to load the NKI instrument. You can also import the individual .wav samples into any sampler or DAW of choice. This is from the project Sam website. I'm going to check this with my sampler when I get home from work.
Anita... Yes, as it stands these don't ENTIRELY work with the free player; it apparently times out as a demo after 15 minutes. You can of course reload, and bounce in place too, to keep the audio. However Project Sam (above here in the comments somewhere!) have hinted there will be an expanded version of these free libraries, which will run properly in Kontakt Player. Let's hope!
