This is an awesome solution I've been looking for over 5 years. I have my main desktop that I get all of my editing done on, but when I travel & shoot projects all of the import/rating/sorting happens on my laptop. It's been a hassle having to go between the two when I get home and I've always been looking for some sort of syncing solution. Although I knew you could merge catalogs, I never considered creating a per project catalog when traveling & then merging it into my master. You've saved me a ton of headaches

Hey man, this was really interesting and helpful. I’m currently moving the opposite direction from everyone else-incorporating a LR Classic catalog on my home Mac into what was an Adobe cloud LR CC/Mobile workflow-but eventually I know the Adobe cloud storage is going to get too cumbersome and I’ll need to start using external SSD’s when I’m on the road. So this will really come in handy one day soon. You’re excellent at explaining this stuff, by the way: clear, concise, repetitive to the right degree when it’s something important, etc. Thanks!

Dude. Such great feedback. I really appreciate it. Yes, Lightroom CC is a whole other beast. It's still not nearly as flexible as Lightroom Classic. So, knowing where one is stronger over the other is helpful for sure. Thanks for the comment.

Thank you, this solves my network shared lrct. I can iscsi on my windows pc, but sometimes want to make edits using my MacBook and was getting frustrated not being able to use the same catalog. Thank you heaps, I’d take your course but I live in Australia and we are in lockdown because of the pandemic, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it 😂

Steve, great video. What do you do when you are done with the external catalog / images and want to import or move all the images to the master catalog and where you have all your image files stored? That is what I am struggling with. I want to edit on a fast SSD drive and then get all the images into my master catalog and get my image files into my main storage location. Thanks

The same for me John. I work for years with one Master catalog on external G-tech hardrive which i have 2 mirrored copies outside my place. I want to work with an external SSD for better speed performance any new project and then add it to the main catalog. I guess if i am not wrong if you go Steve way.... create new catalog, make your edits...add from another catalog (the new that just create) to tha master catalog....that creates new LRcat file at the Master location file so then we can delete everything from ssd if we want it. Sorry for my English, greetings from Greece.

Great Tip, thanks. Just curious what your "Very fast" external hard drive is ?

When you select the "Add new photos to catalog without moving" doesn't that mean your master catalog won't have these photos? Wouldn't you want to "Copy new photos to a new location and import" so that the photos come with the catalog? And then going forward, if you make further changes you can simply select the "Replace: Metadata and develop settings, etc."

Jay, I appreciate the comment - Good question. Yes. The option for copy is definitely there for a reason. It's all dependent upon your workflow. It all depends upon where you want to keep and store your mater files. In this example I was just trying to illustrate the understand around the process. Everyone's specific needs will determine the exact settings used. Cheers!
